Julia Lazarrett
The main protagonist, an uptight and patriotic young woman who is killed and forced into a Magically-Binding Contract to murder the owner of the a magical travelling circus.
- Daddy's Girl: Her father is one of the main reasons she’s willing to do whatever it takes to leave the circus and go home.
- Implausible Deniability: Even after signing a magical contract to extend her life and witnessing several mystical feats, Julia sfor a while still refuses to believe that magic exists, as that would mean accepting everything she’s been raised to believe by Kalgratt is a lie.
- Nice Girl: She’s a polite, good hearted young woman who is simply ignorant to the truth about her nation’s laws and beliefs.
- Your Days Are Numbered: According to her contract, she only has a year to kill Anthonn before dying permanently, giving her no choice but to resort to murder to save herself.
Kamille
Julia’s best friend who runs away with the Anthonn Gremminger Traveling Troupe, kicking off the events of the story.
- Love at First Sight: She falls in love with Rainah immediately, enough so to leave behind her family and give up her life so she can pursue a romance with the Ah'kon.
Anthonn Gremminger
The circus owner and ringleader of the circus, granting new members contracts for eternal life to spend as members of his circus.
Sahed
An Ah’kon and the circus illusionist, who takes an interest in Julia when she tells him about her contract to kill Anthonn.
Rainah
An Ah’kon woman, Sahed’s illusionist partner and the circus fortune-teller.
- Closet Key: She’s this for Kamille, who joins the circus so she can get to know her.
- Defrosting Ice Queen: She initially comes off as aloof and cold, and seems particularly depressed over her circumstances, but spending time with Kamille shows her to have a warmer side.
- Like Brother and Sister: She and Sahed seem to have this kind of relationship, despite Julia’s assumption that they’re together.

The circus treasurer and aerial ribbon acrobat.
