Daigo Shigeno

Voiced by: Natsumi Fujiwara

  • 10-Minute Retirement: He was disappointed in his abilities as a baseball player and as a result quit baseball for two years until he met Hikaru Satou.
  • Anime Hair: He has rather spikey hair that he inherited from his father.
  • Chick Magnet: Mutsuko mentions that he gets a lot of presents on Valentines Day, however Daigo claims it's just because he's Goro's son.
  • Heroic BSoD: When he bumps into Hikaru and causes him to become paralyzed, he feels so guilt-ridden that he decides to quit baseball altogether. Thankfully he gets over it once he learns Hikaru will eventually recover.
  • The Leader: In middle school, as Captain of the Fuurin baseball team. He's a mixture of levelheaded and charismatic types.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: To his disappointment, Daigo is an average baseball player for his age with a weak shoulder. His father was a prodigy and had a great arm. Also, while Goro was mainly a pitcher for most of his career, Daigo eventually settles down to for being a catcher.
  • You Are in Command Now: In middle school, after the third years retire, and most of the second years are expelled from the baseball team for stealing, he finds himself named as the team's new captain. Despite some doubts, he eventually embraces the role and actually handles it well.

Hikaru Satou

Voiced by: Koutarou Nishiyama

  • The Ace: He initially has very poor control over pitching, but after Daigo shows him the correct way to hold the ball it turns out he has a knack for pitching.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Due to his parents' divorce, he's constantly conflicted on whether he should play baseball or not, even though he quickly takes to and enjoys it. Thankfully, they reach an agreement so he can keep playing for the Dolphins even after he moves to the Gunma prefecture.
  • Gratuitous English: He sprinkles English into his speech.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Subverted. It initially seems that, unlike his dad, Satou is bad at baseball. However, it turns out that his poor abilities come from his newness to the sport, not a lack of talent. That said, he chooses to be a pitcher instead of a catcher.
  • Naïve Newcomer: He contrasts with Daigo as, despite having a baseball player father, Satou knows very little of baseball.
  • New Transfer Student: He recently moved to Japan from New York.
  • Pretty Boy: According to Mutsuko's friend, Hikaru's looks are talked about amongst girls.

Mutsuko Sakura

Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa

  • Puppy Love: Daigo is her first love. She admired him from afar until they began interacting in sixth grade.
  • Tsundere: Mostly a dere-type; she's very sweet and friendly, but Daigo's obliviousness to her crush on him can get the best of her at times.

Izumi Shigeno

Voiced by: Natsumi Takamori

  • Academic Athlete: Daigo is frustrated by his sister's ability to be both a great student and a great athlete.
  • The Ace: She's a great baseball player and she has good grades as well.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She's very into baseball.

Kaoru Shigeno

Voiced by: Yuko Sasamoto

Goro Shigeno

  • Put on the Bus: In the first episode, he leaves with his baseball team to play in Taiwan.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: He's absent rather often due to playing abroad, but does his best to keep track of his children and always helps them when he comes back.

Toshiya Sato

Voiced by: Masakazu Morita

  • Amicably Divorced: Downplayed. Things seem to be strained between him and his ex-wife, but they reach an agreement for Hikaru's sake.
  • The Mentor: He helps Daigo as he adapts to his new position as a catcher.

Hayato Urabe

Voiced by: Taichi Ichigawa

  • Freudian Excuse: He's hostile towards Daigo and Hikaru because Wataru Mayumura, who is the son of a pro and had natural talent for baseball, took his spot as the main pitcher in the Touto Boys.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: He seems to feel this way, because he works hard and gets surpassed by others who are more talented.
  • Love at First Sight: He's absolutely smitten with Izumi when he first meets her (helped by the fact that she looks a lot like an idol, and her being in a swimsuit at the time).
  • Unknown Rival: To Wataru Mayumura.

Andy Suzuki

Voiced by: Shintarou Ouhata

Michiru Mayumura

Voiced by: Yui Horie

Wataru Mayumura

Voiced by: Jun Fukushima

Anita Kabashima

Voiced by: Rie Murakawa

  • But Not Too Foreign: She's part-Brazilian.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Despite being a first year, she's pretty tall for her age, which gives her a huge edge as a catcher.
  • The Idiot from Osaka: Zigzagged. She's not exactly dumb, just impulsive and prone to make rash judgements.
  • Leader Wannabe: At first, she doesn't think much of Daigo and thinks she can take over the captain position from him. The second match served as a huge Wake-Up Call for her, and since then she respects him more.
