Flynn's Mercenaries

    Flynn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flynn.png
"Mercenaries are like hookers, doctor: pretending to be excited costs extra."
Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore (English), Kenichiro Matsuda (Japanese)

  • Anti-Hero: He's The Protagonist of the episode, but nonetheless is a violent mercenary who doesn't really give a damn about the doctors who hired him in the first place to look after them.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Makes it very clear throughout the entire episode that he could not care less about the expedition he was hired onto.
  • The Hero: Firmly takes this position the second it's made clear just how major the threat he's facing is, and firmly stands as the most heroic figure in the movie.
  • Heroic Willpower: Despite its ineffectiveness, he continues to try and kill Dracula with just a tiny little knife. Even Dracula himself seems impressed by this to a degree.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may be kind of a dick, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care about his team.
  • The Leader: Leads his team of mercenaries without question, and in return they seem to respect him quite a lot, though not enough to not take occasional jabs at him.

    Micky

"Would you tell him to hurry up? I'm freezing my tits off back here."
Voiced by: Jonathan Cahill (English), Hinata Tadokoro (Japanese)

  • Acrofatic: Despite being on the heavy-side, he's certainly fast enough to outrun a huge explosion chasing him down.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The big guy to Gary's little guy.
  • Brave Scot: Portrays very little to no real fear at the fact they're fighting Dracula.
  • The Lancer: Acts as Flynn's second in command for most of the episode.
  • Only Sane Man: Probably the most normal of the three mercenaries.
  • Out of Focus: Gets the least screentime of the major characters.

    Gary

"Not particularly tickity, to be honest. Weren't expecting gunfights with angry vampires."
Voiced by: Laura Waddell (English), Mirei Kumagai (Japanese)

  • Ambiguously Gay: If her comment is anything to go by, she's into women.
Flynn: Little pussy here saved our lives.
Gary: Yeah, I know it saved my life a few times.
  • The Big Guy: By far the most dangerous and Ax-Crazy member of the group, with quite a few weapons to boot.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The little guy to Micky's big guy.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Just about everthing she says is absolutely loaded with sarcasm.
  • Country Matters: Uses it rather casually towards Micky.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Is seemingly a woman, but is named Gary.
  • Jerkass: Rather heartlessly makes a joke about Simon's death.
  • Large Ham: When she finally gets the chance to use her explosives, she's more than a little excited to say the least from that point on.
  • Mad Bomber: Is very eager to use the C-4 she brought. And ends up using far more of it than necessary.
  • No Kill like Overkill: It's implied that when setting explosives, she tends to err on the side of getting the biggest bang.
  • Walking Armory: Brought quite a large number of weapons with her onto the expedition to say the least.

Research Team

    Doctor Wehunt
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doctor_26.png
"Do try to at least act excited."
Voiced by: Michael Benyaer (English), Tomomichi Nishimura (Japanese)

  • Dirty Coward: Ran away the first chance he could from Dracula, leaving Flynn behind in the process.
  • Non-Action Guy: He's a scholar, not a fighter, that's why he has mercenaries.
  • No-Respect Guy: The mercenaries don't respect him all that much due to his cowardice, small body, and cynical outlook on how they're already dead.
  • Only Sane Man: The only member of the group to realize just how screwed they actually are, and how useless their weaponry is against Dracula.
  • The Smart Guy: By far the most intelligent member of the group, which makes sense, as he is a scientist. In fact, his entire motive for hiring the mercenaries in the first place was to protect him while he went to his researching area with his assistant.
  • The Strategist: Makes it quite clear that he is not this!

    Simon

"Hmm, let me see..."
Voiced by: Scott Whyte (English), Shogo Batori (Japanese)

  • Ambiguously Gay: Apparently was checking Flynn out earlier. Though, considering it was Gary who tells him this, it was likely just a jab.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Has his neck torn out by Dracula, before being impaled and torn limb from limb.
  • The Generic Guy: Doesn't have too much to help him stand out from the others.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Basically just exists to set up how big of a threat Dracula is.
  • Tag Along Kid: By far the youngest and most inexperienced member of the group, being at most around his early twenties, and the rest of the group with exception of Wehunt doesn't really take him too seriously.
  • Teen Genius: Quite young, but is possibly the most intelligent member of the group after Wehunt.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The only thing we learn about him is that he's the research assistant to Doctor Wehunt, and that he's a Korean grad student, and we only learned the latter after he's already dead.

Click here for his second appearance.
"Entombed here, the Devourer of Children, the Black Prince, the Sucker of Souls..."
Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore

  • Adaptational Ugliness.: Nowhere near as handsome as most other interpretations, though rather accurate to the original novel.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: Is usually quite intelligent in most major works. Here, he seems to mostly be running on basic survival instincts, though does at least know how to speak.
  • Baddie Flattery: As Flynn continues to attack him, he complements his strong willpower and heart of a warrior.
  • Big Bad: The main antagonist of the episode.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: Starts Hulking Out after drinking Simon's blood, and implies he'll feast on Flynn's heart to gain his warrior courage.
  • Character Death: Killed via the C4 that Gary set up earlier for him.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Genuinely complements how Flynn has the heart of a warrior... Before going over how he still intends to eat his still-beating heart.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: He's completely naked when he emerges form his tomb, and never bothers to clothe himself before assaulting the humans who disturbed him.
  • Groin Attack: Gary shoots off Dracula's dick with a shotgun just because she thinks it's funny.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Dracula perfectly slices Simon in half!
  • Healing Factor: Can easily shrug off gunfire due to his rapid healing. But not a C-4 explosion at point blank range.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Is interpreted here as a blood-thirsty beast who slaughters everything in it's path. While he starts out a humanoid (but naked) being, he quickly transforms into a monstrous form. Oh, and he's is scared of cats. And ultimately killed with C-4..
  • Outrun the Fireball: Though he didn't really get the chance to.
  • Sinister Nudity: Dracula himself emerges from his tomb stark naked and clearly not giving a damn about it, almost immediately murdering Simon soon after. In fact, he doesn't bother to find clothes at any point in the entire episode, further emphasizing his bestial, animalistic brand of vampirism.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Cats, who were believed to have poisonous blood to vampires.
