Ryu Users
A 14 year-old knight-in-training, on a journey to the Earth Blade.
- Chivalrous Pervert: For as much as he tries to be the ideal knight, he still shows a noticeable smile while having a brief Imagine Spot involving Paffy in the bath.
- Hot-Blooded: His main personality trait. His companions have often commented on whether he'll ever calm down.
- Kid Hero: Adeu is 14 years old, after all.
- Knight in Shining Armor: He holds himself up to a code of chivalry that a knight should follow.
- Red Baron: He likes to refer to himself as "Adeu the Sonic."
The 14 year-old princess of the Kingdom of Pafricia, she invites Adeu to join her on her journey to the Earth Blade.
- Adaptation Dye-Job: The TV anime shows her having blue hair and green eyes. The OVAs reverses this.
- Black Magician Girl: She specializes in Elemental Magic which she uses to attack her foes.
- Lethal Chef: Downplayed. Katze pointed out that there's a lack of good ingredients, and some salt and pepper would improve her cooking. Also justified in that Paffy is a princess and doesn't need to know how to cook.
- Nice Girl: A kind-hearted girl who will help anyone in need.
- Playing with Fire: Her most commonly used spell, "Hounon," shoots fireballs.
- Princesses Prefer Pink: Paffy wears a pink dress, pink socks and pink hair ties. Her Ryu Mage Magidorar is also pink before the class change.
- Shock and Awe: Her most powerful spell, "Raidas," shoots a bolt of lightning.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She has a real problem with scaled creatures such as lizards in the early parts of the series. She's just fine with frogs, though.
A priest serving as Paffy's escort on her journey to the Earth Blade.
- The Big Guy: He is the biggest and physically strongest of the main characters.
- White Mage: As befitting of a priest, he specializes in support magic, such as healing, by borrowing power from the gods.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He has a serious fear of ghosts. Apparently this is due to an incident during his training as a novice.
A ninja hired to help escort Paffy to the Earth Blade.
- The Lancer: His cynical, pragmatic attitude serves as a Foil to Adeu's idealistic, straight-forward approach.
The head of a warrior clan living in a forest.
A wandering swordsman from the same country as Sarutobi.
Katze's older brother a gunman who protects people for a small fee.
Antagonists
A knight in dark armor, he sets out to conquer all of Earth's Tear.
- Adaptational Heroism: He remains a villain in the manga, whilst he has a Heel–Face Turn in the anime.
- Black Knight: The title of the episode where he first appeared describes him as "The Knight of Darkness - and His Dark Ryu Knight".
- Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: He weeps over his mother in his fevered sleep. Lampshaded by Sarutobi who was nursing him.
- Magic Knight: He and Steru fight using both their swords and dark magic.
- Shock and Awe: His "Raidas Blade" and "Raidas Sword" shoot bolts of dark lightning from his weapon.
An old woman serving Galden.
A cruel, high-ranking member of the Hell Dragon Clan.
- The Dragon: He serves as the Emperor's second-in-command.
The supreme leader of the the Hell Dragon Clan.
- Big Bad: As the leader of the Hell Dragons, he serves as this during the later parts of the show.
- Large and in Charge: His Doom is far bigger than the ones used by his minions, as well as any other mech in the series.
- Malevolent Masked Man: He wears a tribal mask and is never seen without it.
- No Name Given: He is only ever known by his title.
