Season 1 PCs
Luce Teixeira / Mesmer
"Sometimes stakes are high and people get left behind."
- Deadpan Snarker: The most no-nonsense team member, meaning he had a lot of this to spare for everyone else.Gildong: "Don't worry about privacy, by the way, Serious Samaritan, I've got a background scrambler on all my streaming gear, video'll come out looking like we're in... I think I chose the 'bubblegum mall' skin for it."Luce: "I wasn't even thinking about it, you come off as a supremely conscientious person," he says with a straight face.
- Happiness in Mind Control: His life's dream through most of the campaign is to get enough money to spend the rest of his life in a Lotus-Eater VR simulation. When Liqiang renders him unable to use C-jacks rather than killing him, he happily gives his body to the lamprey in exchange for a similar situation.
- Note to Self: Thanks to paranoia about the memory-eating creatures around them, especially his lamprey, Luce starts keeping lots of notes about their circumstances, gradually growing into Human Notepad as part of his Sanity Slippage.Luce: "We're not going to have time to check paper notes, this way I'll notice even if I forget to remember."
- Only Sane Man: Starts as this, then comes into possession of a music box, starts reading about bicameralism, and goes crazier than the rest.
- Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!
- Sour Outside, Sad Inside: A Dirty Coward who betrayed his own former partner...because he hates the idea of spending a long stretch of time as himself. His Freudian Excuse is that he grew up in poverty and subjected to racism, which spurred his desire to escape from reality. During the last confrontation with Liqiang, was more pathetic than anything else, and in the postgame interludes, has this to say when he's questioned by the lamprey:Luce: "Remembering makes me sad. Being here makes me sad. How many more questions are there going to be?"
- Willing Channeler: 'Willing' is debatable when he'd just hit his Despair Event Horizon, but...Anything better than this meat, this body, this self for a short and brutish and miserable life. He acts on instinct and emotion alone, opening his mind even further to the lamprey, offering it all that it's asking for.
Carlos Mendoza / Veil
"I don't enjoy being a boss, but I have to sometimes if I want to be able to rely on people."
- The Body Parts That Must Not Be NamedJaco: "Ah! Your vocal cords! Do not worry, as I kept those in my drinks freezer as there was not room in the main fridge any more."Carlos: "No, no. My...other you know."Jaco: "Ah, yes! The 'penis'!" he says in the tone of someone who has never heard of a penis before.
Yuri Geshe / Egodeath
"Why don't we all chill out and, like, talk normally without breaking more stuff or screaming?"
- Cold Sniper: Usually jokey and unprofessional at best, CAN switch to this mode when the going is toughest.
- Contract on the Hitman: Sort of. March is another assassin who takes a murderous dislike to him after he steals some of her jobs.
- Hitman with a Heart: The other side of the coin, he genuinely cared for Gildong and the other Trawlers.
- Nightmare Fetishist: As of Season 2, is a unit with Gildong, who is revealed to be something not-quite-human.
- Professional Killer
Chou Middleton / Thecosomata
"If I ever die, I hope it's like that... In the embrace of my babies..."
- Meaningful Name: Thecosomata is a sub-order of sea snails (sea butterflies). She's also the one on the team who breeds sea creatures loaded with VR simulations as a hobby.
- The Medic
- Playful Hacker
Sauda Ireri / Abyss
"I came here ‘cause I was like, way super bored and needed something to do, you like, know?"
- Action Fashionista: Her vice involves collecting crazy designer clothes.
- Classy Cat-Burglar
- Naïve Newcomer: She is the last Season 1 player character to join the group, running into them on a job. Her page quote speaks for itself. Reappears in Season 2 as a Shellshocked Veteran of the Trawlers' conflict with the Echo Project.
- Playful Hacker: The Trawlers' resident Stealth Expert and thief, she's called on for most locks that need busting open.
Season 2 PCs
Chirapa Yupanqui / San Manco
"That's a phrase that means you fuck off, I fuck off, shit happens."
- Animal Motifs: For whatever reason, he's associated with colorful shrimp.
- Diplomatic Impunity: Referenced: his father is an Incan ambassador. Subverted in that he doesn't actually get those privileges because his dad cut him off.
- Friend on the Force: Kwangho, a detective that he seduced. (Until, in the wake of the disastrous Hatter job, poor Kwangho gets fired.)
- Know When to Fold 'Em: Listed as one of his skills on the Legendkeeper page. Actually getting into an unwanted war with the Tea Party isn't his style.
- The Leader
- Only in It for the Money: The most pragmatic and realistic of the Moonshiners.
Yuna Kekoa / Bastille
"The world's got enough fringe groups talking about the end, okay. I like thinking about the way stuff just keeps going."
- Because I'm Good At It: Goes from being surrounded by corrupt cops to straight-up being involved in a drug-smuggling ring, partially because fighting is all she knows how to do.
- By-the-Book Cop: She stood out by actually having some morals in the famously corrupt job, which contributed to her quitting.
- Cop/Criminal Family: Being a Myrmidon ran in the family, and she didn't have a lot of support when she quit (even if she didn't tell them explicitly about her new job).
- Dreadlock Warrior
- Meaningful Name: Refers to a fortified tower (as the team's muscle) or a jail (referring to her Myrmidon past).
- Religious Bruiser: She's a Neodruid and the Moonshiners' muscle.
- Walking Armory
Nikolai Stamp / Speaker of the Drowned
"I want people not just to see my art, but. Understand it, feel it, in their minds and hearts and souls."
- Evil Former Friend: To Soe; in a reversal of the typical trope, one of the protagonists is the serial killer and the former best friend is the one trying to get justice.
- Had to Be Sharp
- Mad Artist: His arc for the season involved creating a horrific art project out of murdered corpses to eventually set the stage for a Deep ritual.
- Redemption Rejection: When he comes across Soe attempting to destroy his Biggest Work Yet, and kills her—then brings her back.
- Serial Killer: He chooses his victims based on Deep whispers.
- The Voiceless: Doesn't speak out loud except for when he's doing Deep stuff on purpose.
Yago Santos / Hyde
“I think maybe I do have a chance to change this city instead. Instead of just myself.”
- Clandestine Chemist: Still a student at Qiandao, he uses his biotech knowledge for criminal reasons with the Moonshiners.
- For Science!
- Functional Addict
- The Smart Guy: The designated tech expert of the Moonshiners, as well as The Medic.

Notable NPCs
Hatter
"I have one of the greatest minds of my generation, maybe of any generation. And I'll be damned if I'm going to waste it away making toys for the rich."
- Acquired Poison Immunity: Overlaps with Poisonous Person, since this Crazy-Prepared gang leader has modded her own blood into a neurotoxin.
- The Aggressive Drug Dealer: At one point her new designer drug is flooding the market. The fact that it occasionally turns people into berserker-monsters isn't much of a deterrent, since it's massively addicting regardless.
- Clandestine Chemist
- For Science!
Hong Gildong
[Gildong_] what was up with winnie the pooh anyway anyone wanna tell me why they made that mf yellow
[Gildong_] pallin about in the wood with all his normal coloured animal pals and nobody tells the fat piece of shit that hes fucking dying of jaundice like whats the deal with that
[Gildong_] gotta respect the crop top pussy out look though i think thats confidence we can all aspire to
- Master of Disguise
- Metaphorgotten: A hallmark of their completely wild dialogue.Gildong: "It's, like, doesn't she have dicks to suck or something, is there a global shortage in the dick economy? Supply line dried up, dick factories are abandoned, penis workers on strike, HARD WORK DESERVES HARD PAY, picket signs and everything?"
The Lamprey
Thoughts flicker into his head. Not his own. The mind, split in two. The speaker and the listener. Humans living their lives without awareness, a body obeying a distant voice. He sees a computer setup, like the sort a jacker might use. The lamprey sits at the terminal, long not-fingers coiling into the keys. And behind it, Luce, a C-Jack headset on, bathed in the blue light.
- Eldritch Abomination: The impression that it gives, even though it can't be perceived except out of the corner of your eye. When possessing Luce, he looks human...but not quite.
lethe_lungs
"I don't think I'm really anybody's friend."
"Mad Cunt" Hudson
"I'm a friendly bloke, but I'm not a bleedin' heart. I'm the king, mate. When the king rolls into town, ya bend the knee or lose your head."
- Country Matters: One of the most notable things about him is his choice in name, which also identifies him as an Ozzi.
March
"Okayyyy, could you take the cowl off, Yuri, I kind of want to see the light go out in your eyes, pretty please?"
- Beware the Silly Ones: Despite the bunny ears (modded for extra-powerful hearing) and the neon weapons (fully functional), she's a one-woman army.
- Implacable Man: The most durable NPC in the game, she causes trouble for Trawlers and Moonshiners alike. Even when she gets an entire building dropped on her, she still crawls out and happily commits more murders.
- Killer Rabbit: The joke of her. She's got adorable bunny ears and guns that light up in pretty colors, and she's also an Ax-Crazy Professional Killer who live-streams snuff films.
Mrs. Solomon / Skull
"Honestly, back in my day, assassins had some class. They were polite, they were efficient, they had a plan to kill everyone they met, none of this... bloody Blink TV and Only For Fans, honestly! The state of the hitman industry, it's a disgrace, a disgrace, I tell you."
- Old Master: Formerly a famous electrocracker like Sauda, she appears as a mentor figure and still has crime connections but is happily retired and doesn't directly join the team on any jobs.
Olivia Chen
"Jeez, guys, is this a job, or a funeral, there a librarian around here I'm not seein'?"
Soe Visser
"This isn't that kind of story. Just shitty things happening to both of us forever, and then at the end of it all, one of us dies."
- Came Back Wrong: After Speaker kills her and reanimates her as the second prophet of his god.Somewhere in the city, Soe is slumped against the wall of an alley, clutching her head and crying tears of blood.
- The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Allows the Speaker to leave during their first meeting, though she says she'll kill him the next time they meet. It doesn't quite work out that way.
Sofi Kaluo
"The biggest problem the world faces is wallowing in the belly of the beast. The creeping Flesh, stripping away everything that makes us human."
