Liberty Meadows has a regular ensemble cast, as well as a variety of bit players and more than one Lawyer-Friendly Cameo (or... not so lawyer-friendly.)
Brandy Carter
A strong, confident, attractive woman who works at the Liberty Meadows Animal Sanctuary as an animal psychologist.- Action Girl: When things take a dramatic turn - people being carried off on rapids, lost in the woods, etc. - there's only one character who's up to the challenge. (No, it's not Oscar.)
- Betty and Veronica: Brandy is the Betty to Jen's Veronica.
- She’s also the Archie to Frank’s Betty and Roger’s Veronica.
- Expy: At more than one point, it's even lampshaded how she is one for Lynda Carter. The name is a big clue.
- Friend to All Living Things: An animal psychologist by trade, whom animals flock to (especially on the comic covers).
- Ms. Fanservice: You might say it's a Frank Cho trademark.
- Sit Com Arch Nemesis: She regularly attempts to cure Dean's addictive tendencies and prevent him from corrupting the other animals with his wicked ways.
Frank Mellish
A short (and insecure) young veterinarian with interests in Star Wars, comic books, appearing taller, and Brandy.- Cannot Spit It Out: He's unable to tell Brandy how he feels about her.
- Only Sane Man: He doesn't react too well to the animals' quirks.
- Opaque Nerd Glasses: Although we can see his pupils from time to time.
- The Reliable One: He's not a particularly effective character, but he's always willing to try to help the others.
Julius
The administrator of Liberty Meadows, who would rather be fishing.- Animal Nemesis: He will never rest until he catches the enormous catfish that inhabits Liberty Meadows' lake. Unfortunately for Julius, he's not so much Ahab as he is Wile E. Coyote.
- Borrowed Catchphrase: Generally used in a Skyward Scream.Julius: Khaaaaaaan!
- Out of Focus: Ostensibly in charge, but he's really not around very much.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Julius is supposed to be concerned with keeping the sanctuary financially secure, but whenever possible he gives the staff and the animals free rein.
Jen
A buxom blonde rocket scientist: Brandy's roommate.- Betty and Veronica: Jen is the Veronica to Brandy's Betty.
- Head-Turning Beauty: She prides herself on wearing as little as possible. She keeps the webcam on her computer running at all times. She adores the reactions she gets.
- Hidden Depths: At first she was just Brandy's roommate. Eventually she starts arguing with Ralph about the schematics for this missile he's building, and - to his astonishment - is making valid points.
- It's All About Me: A narcissist.
- Proud Beauty: She loves the attention she gets for her looks.
- Romantic False Lead: Averted during her brief flirtation with Frank. It's obvious to everyone, even Frank, that she's just using him. But...
Ralph
An obnoxious midget bear who, once liberated from the circus and given free rein at Liberty Meadows, was able to pursue the dream career he'd always wanted: mad scientist.- Eyes Always Shut: He hardly opens his eyes.
- For Science!: He'll endanger himself as well as others, often for the sake of an invention of absolutely no practical use.
- Mad Scientist: Has been known to invent things like a "hair-washer" that stripped off the top of Dean's skull. Or try to cook bacon in one second using nuclear fusion.
- Odd Friendship: Eventually, he and Jen start getting along due to a shared fascination with rocketry.
- Snark Knight: Ralph can snark with the best of them.
Leslie
A dim-witted bullfrog who can be talked into anything that allows him to swing a big mallet. On his own, he'd just watch daytime TV all day - but Dean and Frank tend to drag him into whatever wacky scheme they have going.- Hammerspace: It's not clear where he gets those big cartoon mallets all the time.
- Hypochondria: Leslie has diagnosed himself with lots of diseases.
- Too Dumb to Fool: But only occasionally.
Dean
Lecherous, craven, conceited, greedy, slothful, self-absorbed, casually violent, usually drunk and occasionally hallucinating. The fact that he's an actual pig is unfortunate, since it leaves no word to sum up his personality.- Abhorrent Admirer: Toward Brandy. And Jen. And almost any human woman.
- Casanova Wannabe: Every time Dean tries to hit on a woman, she clobbers him.
- Cool Shades: They're the only cool thing about him.
- Friend to All Children: Dean is always nice to the duckling Truman and the dachshund Oscar, and tries not to be utterly reprehensible when they're present.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Dean takes a lot of abuse. A lot.
- Never Bareheaded: Dean is never seen without with his backwards baseball cap. He even swims in it.
- Perverted Pig: Lecherous is the word for Dean.
Truman
A young duckling rescued from an oil spill and brought to Liberty Meadows for rehabilitation.- Ridiculously Cute Critter: He's mostly eyes, bill, and innocent questions.
- Tag Along Kid: No parents or parent-substitutes. He's usually following Brandy or, for some reason, Dean around.
- Those Two Guys: Usually appears with Oscar.
Oscar
A young dachshund who is not a Funny Animal.- Amplified Animal Aptitude: Walks on all fours, has no voice, but shows occasional Hidden Depths of intelligence.
- Those Two Guys: Usually appears with Truman.
Khan
The immense and diabolically clever catfish that dwells in the depths of Liberty Meadows' lake.- Amplified Animal Aptitude: Khan the catfish is very good at tactics, delivering brutal beatings, and turning technology against its masters.
- Bullying a Dragon: Played for laughs. Khan is smarter than most of the cast, and conflicts with him tend to end with a lot of Amusing Injuries, but Julius will never stop trying to destroy him.
- The Voiceless: Khan either can't speak, or doesn't have anything to say.
