Slick's pokemon
Sparktail
Species: Raichu
Tropes:
- Childhood Friend Romance: With Thalia.
- Cool Sword: The sword he receives at the end of of Volume 2. It is said to have been wielded by the hero Aluxiver himself. After this sword breaks, he receives another sword from a blacksmith, but at the price of his Memento Macguffin.
- Fish out of Temporal Water: He and Thalia, along with many others, were sent from 3,000 years ago to the present day because of a temporal displacement.
- Hero Protagonist: He's the main character.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: Taught by Slick to use his tail like a blade. At the end of Volume 2, Slick's Pokemon receive ancient weapons from a Physical God; Sparktail's weapon is a sword.
- Memento Macguffin: His light ball. It's a symbol of his childhood and he keeps it with him even though it's been worthless to him ever since he evolved.
- Shrinking Violet: A male example.
- This is even more prominent in other stories in the series.
- Socially Awkward Hero: Sparktail has difficulty talking to others, often stuttering and/or making awkward pauses. In the early parts of the story, he is sometimes overlooked.

- Hit-and-Run Tactics: Noted as her typical fighting style during a sparring session with a Sneasel.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: At the end of Volume 2, Slick's Pokemon receive ancient weapons from a Physical God. Thalia receives a pair of twin blades, one red and one blue.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Thalia has lost all memories of the era that she grew up in, but the nature of her amnesia is never addressed in-story.
- Swiss-Army Weapon: Her twin blades can be put together to form a bow after Torrid reforges them at Mount Chimney.
Insyte
Species: Umbreon later Flareon
Tropes:
- Duel to the Death: He becomes king of the Vulcanites by defeating Heatran in one of these.
- Good Is Not Nice: He begins as a bit of a Jerkass, even though he is definitely a good guy. Character Development sees his attitude grow more positive.
- Heel–Face Turn:
- The Chosen One: He eventually learns that he is the prophecized heir of the Vulcanites. It doesn't make much difference to anyone else.
- Note that he is still the only one of Slick's Pokemon whose actions are guided by prophecy.
- Commander Contrarian: Starts a few conflicts within the group early on in the story, mostly because he doesn't get along with Lyther. This changes as he gets Character Development.
- Jerkass: Starts out as this. But he outgrows it.
