Hope Man Sun-Hop

Played By: Vincent Wong

A blind barrister who strives for justice for the disadvantaged, using his other heightened senses and legally controversial methods to seek truths behind his court cases.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: In order to let Deanie become a barrister in her own right, he belittles and fires her.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His mother died when he was two, and his father left him for a family that didn't want him in an orphanage, where he was bullied by the others for being blind. Later, he falls in love with Yanice, who broke up with him due to her father's wishes.
  • Expy: A lawyer who lost his eyesight in an accident but has significantly heightened his other senses, who fights for the disadvantaged, and has a complicated relationship with someone else with a law profession? Are we talking about Hope Man, or Matt Murdock?
  • For Great Justice: His principle rule of becoming a barrister is to find the truth and serve justice.
  • Sour Knight: Keeps to himself, and has stated multiple times to not want to be involved with another relationship.
  • Super-Senses: Befitting of his status as a Comic Book/Daredevil Expy.

Deanie "Dino" Chiu Ching-mui

Played By: Sisley Choi

A legal executive working for Hope, who has a heroic spirit due to her mafia family background. In addition to being a law clerk, she also owns a bar called Pledge.
  • Actor Allusion: Early in the first season, Dino sarcastically jokes that she should participate in the Miss Hong Kong pageant, to which Hope Man retorts at she'll come out as the first runner-up at best. Sisley Choi did participate in said pageant three years ago and came out as the first runner-up.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The strongest in the cast.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The first time we see her, she has her underlings drag Hope Man back to Pledge, before berating him for not letting her know about his case, before cheerfully splitting the durian for him to eat.
  • Good Is Not Nice: While she has a good heart, she's also not afraid to use her mob connections to intimidate targets to get information.

Gogo Kuk Yat-ha

Played By: Owen Cheung

An former policeman turned private investigator after an accident that cost him his leg. He becomes Hope Man's roommate.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Has hit on numerous women, including Never. Most turn him down. He eventually gets together with Eva.
  • Handicapped Badass: He lost a leg while investigating T.Y., who had his friend destroy evidence in his car.
  • Working with the Ex: In the second season with Chai.

T.Y. Tai Tak-yan

Played By: Pal Sinn

A cruel and ruthless businessman who has terrible relations with his two children due to his hunger for power.
  • Abusive Parents: Abused his son Tai Tin-yau, at one point almost drowning him.
  • Big Bad: Of season 1.
  • The Unfettered: He believes that one has to be ruthless in life to achieve results.

Cherry "Never" Wong Lai-fan

Played By: Ali Lee

A district court judge who is unafraid to challenge the conservative nature of the legal system.

Lau Zi-Ruen

Played By:

The second defendant of the first season and the eighth plaintiff of the second season. He was accused of poisoning local dogs, and later returns to sue for his mother's heart.
  • Chekhov's Skill: His ability to read lips and strong memory prove to be crucial to helping his case.
  • Mama Boy: His mother is the only family he has left.

Ngai Yu-Chun

Played By: Zoie Tam

The third defendant of the first season, a performance artist accused of assault.
  • Public Exposure: The nature of her work revolves around the naked human body.

Suki Ho

Played By: Angel Chiang Ka Man

The fourth defendant of the first season, a traumatised bar girl who was accused of breaking in and assaulting.
  • Not Used to Freedom: How her case had actually happened. When she found a method to escape the dungeon, she was so unused to the feeling that she tried to move back, only to end up meeting with the security guard and attacked him out of panic.

Annie Poon On

Played By: Toby Chan

The sixth defendant of the first season, a transgender teacher accused of molesting another woman.
  • Trans Tribulations: Annie grew up under a traditional father who disowned her after she made up her mind to undergo transition.

Man Gan-ying

Played By:

The seventh defendant of the first season, a shadow puppeteer accused of obstruction. He is also Hope Man's father who abandoned him after he caused the accident that blinded his son.
  • Back for the Dead: His next appearance reveals that he has ALS, and asks for Hope Man's help for assisted suicide.
  • Broken Pedestal: Hope Man loved his father until the day he died.
  • Must Make Amends: He greatly regrets abandoning Hope Man, and his every appearance has him try to make up for it.

Yanice Tai Tin-yan

Played By: Tracy Chu

The eighth defendant and victim of the final case of the first season. An ophthalmologist who is Hope Man's ex-girlfriend from university.
  • The Lost Lenore: She is one to Hope Man, who never gave up on her after twelve years. Her death is what motivates him to prosecute her killers.

James Kan Siu Wang

Played By: Paul Chun

A Senior Counsel who is Hope and Eva's mentor.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Loosely based on Sir Oswald Victor Cheung, the first ethnic Chinese to become a Queen's Counsel in colonial Hong Kong, who, like James, was also a mentor to a number of eminent lawyers.
  • Red Baron: Known as the 'Doyen of the bar'.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Zigzagged. While he initially seems to be firmly on the side of lawful, he is in fact sympathetic to the side of good.

Eva Shaw Mei Na

Played By: Kelly Cheung

One of James' apprentices who has a vested interest in Hope Man.
  • Worthy Opponent: Sees Hope Man as one, to the point where she even spent three years to hone her senses on a similar degree as his.

Jasmine Kwok Lam

Played By: Jessica Kan

A rich admirer of Hope Man who becomes his apprentice.
  • Ascended Fangirl: A huge fan of Hope who convinces him to take her on as her mentor.

Gilbert

Played By: Karl Ting Tze Long

The second defendant of the second season, a doctor accused of online slander.
  • Beneath the Mask: While he appears to be a popular doctor, his personal life is a lot more flawed.

Tai Mei Yu

Played By: Lenna Yeung Cheuk Na

The second plaintiff of the second season, seeking for retribution for her daughter.
  • Heel Realization: The revelation that the posts that drove her daughter to suicide were posted by her.

Zhao Ga Hei

The third defendant of the second season, a model who comes in conflict for the ownership of her father's brisket noodle shop.
  • Intersex Tribulations: Was assigned female at birth, which caused her great ridicule when growing up. Her father tried to take her to numerous surgeries, which eventually caused her to run away from home.

Din Chai Fu

Played By:

The third plaintiff of the second season, who is seeking for the ownership of a brisket noodle shop.
  • Greed: He once claimed that an lichee tree planted by his father was his property, and now is seeking to gain possession of a brisket noodle shop.
  • Hate Sink: When the trial isn't going his way, he threatens Ga Hei to hand over the brisket shop. Later on, the reason why he wants the shop is so that he can pay off his debts.

Hu Ri Dong

The fourth defendant of the second season, a swimming instructor who was sentenced to prison for the apparent murder of his student.
  • Driven to Suicide: The fact that he had missed his mother's funeral during his imprisonment caused him to attempt it.
