- Abortion Fallout Drama: Getting an abortion drove her to murder.
- The Atoner: Much of her devotion to law enforcement is out of guilt for killing her romantic rival in a blind rage. When she can no longer hide from it, she goes quietly.
- Family Versus Career: Dana lampshades this trope when explaining that she didn't want to have children with her ex and was content to get an abortion, as she was happy to have her career. She's also absolutely lying because she murdered her ex's fiancee after finding out she was pregnant.
- Good Girls Avoid Abortion: She aborted her ex-boyfriend's baby because she was going to the FBI and it was a casual relationship. Or so it seems. It's later revealed that she got the abortion in hope of keeping him, but he broke up with her anyway, and then got someone else pregnant and was happy to marry her.
- Love Makes You Crazy: Killed her ex's fiancee when she got pregnant. Granted, said ex told Dana to get an abortion when she got pregnant and dumped her shortly thereafter...

. - Running Gag: Whenever Dana arrives, Elliot gets hurt: first time, Elliot got shot by a neo-Nazi; second time, he was knocked out by a bomb; third time, Dana actually hurts Elliot as a result of a bullet ricocheting and hitting him in the arm. The only reason he wasn't hurt in her final appearance was because he was Put on a Bus by then.
- Undercover Cop Reveal: Was first introduced as a member of a neo-Nazi group named Star Morrison. Revealed herself to be an undercover fed during a courtroom shootout.

An FBI Agent originally assigned to be Olivia's handler during her undercover mission in Season 8.
- Badass Longcoat: He loves wearing one. His guest appearances are usually in Fall or Winter episodes, which probably explains it.
- Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He stands 6 feet tall.
- Took a Level in Kindness: Introduced as Olivia's Tall, Dark, and Snarky handler, he eventually warms up to her.
