     Alex Bailey

Alexandra Bailey

That's the beauty of magic- there's really no science to it.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Alex is alienated from her peers due to her love of books and learning.
  • Badass Bookworm: Alex utilizes her knowledge and intellect to work ways out of situations and come up with efficient strategies.
  • Cute Bookworm: Is stated to be a pretty girl with bright blue eyes and strawberry-blonde hair.
  • Daddy's Girl: Her love for her father is so strong that it is the only thing that can break her curse.
  • Damsel in Distress: In books 5 and 6, Alex is cursed to help the witches, especially Morina.
  • Ditzy Genius: Downplayed. There’s a moment in Book 1 when Alex comes close to the witch’s candy house without any caution despite knowing that the witch tried eating children in the fairytale. She also climbs up the wall of Rapunzel’s tower and fails to realize that there are stairs.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: The other half, as revealed at the end of book 1, is fairy.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": She gets so distracted by the fairy tale world and characters that Conner has to remind her about the Wishing Spell.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Almost exclusively goes by "Alex," rather than her full first name.
  • The Perfectionist: Further lampshaded in Chapter 21 of Worlds Collide. Alex was constantly ridiculed for her brainy attitude and intelligence, and because she was teased for her good qualities, she had to raise her standards higher in fear of the consequences of her bad qualities.
  • The Smart Girl: The smartest out of the twins, always thinking logically and flexibly.
  • Tomboyish Name: "Alex."

     Conner Bailey

Conner Jonathan Bailey

If I have the choice of being doubtful or being hopeful, I'm going to choose hopeful. It takes less work to be positive.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: A brilliant author that puts no effort into most of his schoolwork.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Often speaks sarcastic sentences out loud.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: The other half, as revealed at the end of book 1, is fairy.
  • Pragmatic Hero: A troll wants you to answer a riddle to cross its bridge? Just cross the stream yourself! Taking too long to find a gate into the Red Riding Hood Kingdom? Just jump over the fence!
  • Smarter Than You Look: He might not be The Smart Guy (that would be his sister), but he's not as stupid as he initially appears.

     Charlotte Bailey

Charlotte Bailey

I don't care how thick the border is between dimensions; nothing is going to keep me from my children. Magic or no magic, I will crawl right through this mirror and drag you both back home if I have to!
  • Good Parents: Does her best for her children, but unfortunately ...
  • Parental Neglect: At least in the first book, she has to work extra shifts to be able to take financial care of her children.
  • Rags to Riches: After she gets together with Dr. Bob.

    Dr. Bob

Dr. Robert Gordon

I would walk to the ends of the world if I had to- any world. But not just for your mom, for you as well.
  • Good Parents: Eventually achieves this with the twins, especially Conner, whom he lives with.
  • Nice Guy: Bob shows general kindness to his second-wife and step-children.
  • Second Love: To Charlotte Bailey.
  • Wicked Stepmother: Heavily, heavily averted. He even asks the twins' permission to propose to their mother!

    John Bailey

Johnathan Bailey

Right now, we're living in an ugly chapter of our lives, but books always get better!
  • Disappeared Dad: Dies before the events of the first book.
  • Good Parents: He’s such a good parent, it was enough to break Alex's curse.
  • Posthumous Character: He died a year before the events of the first book.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He looks so much like his brother his own children thought they were the same person. Both of them get their looks from their father.

    Bree Campbell

Bree Campbell

Are you out of your mind? How are you supposed to save another dimension when you can't even get out of an airport?

    Emmerich Himmelsbach

Emmerich Himmelsbach

My mom would kill me if I missed dinner, even if it was to help save the world.

    Book Huggers

All Girls

  • Alpha Bitch: All four girls seem determined to make the Baileys' school lives a living hell.
  • Cassandra Truth: Absolutely nobody believes the girls when they try telling people what they (think they) know about the Baileys, to the point of institutionalization.
Conspiracy Theorist: They're obsessive about revealing the truth about the Bailey twins and have some very implausible ideas about what that truth may be.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Upon finding out the truth, they immediately help Conner.
  • Inspector Javert: From the very first book, the girls are highly suspicious of the Bailey twins, and it only gets worse when Alex leaves school in book 2.

Cindy Strutherbergers

Lindy Lenkins

Mindy McClowsky

Wendy Takahashi

  • Asian and Nerdy: The only Asian character in the series, and along with the rest of the Book Huggers, among the smartest of Mrs Peter's students
  • Odd Name Out: Her name rhymes the least when compared with her three best friends.
  • The Quiet One: Never speaks.
