G (Gwen)
Actor: Maggie Chretien
Tropes:
- Author Avatar: G is a painfully obvious onenote ...
- Catchphrase: B A N A N A S. G loves her favorite food so much, she has to sing the name instead of just saying it.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: She's primarily referred to as G, rather than Gwen.
- Team Mom: G can act like this on occasion. Justified as she's known to be 1 year older than the rest of the band, therefore slightly more mature.
- The Leader: Obviously G and her inspiration of HJ5.
Love
Actor: Daisy Masterman
Tropes:
- Asian and Nerdy
- Gadgeteer Genius
- Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: A Running Gag is for Love to describe a complicated scientific concept, only for the rest of HJ5 to not comprehend what she just said, so with a dose of frustration, she has to repeat what she just said in the simplest possible words.
- The Smart Girl
- Teen Genius
- Adorkable: She is more than a smart girl as she is pretty kind too and she does giggle sometimes.
Angel
Actor: Emma Taylor-Isherwood
Tropes:
- Action Fashionista
- Country Mouse: Much to Music's surprise, Angel was originally from a small rural farming town before coming to live in Harajuku City.
- Hidden Depths: Angel used to be a farm girl on a chicken ranch.
- The Fashionista: Angel takes fashion very seriously.
Music
Actor: Sally Taylor-Isherwood
Tropes:
- Birthday Hater: Music doesn't like celebrating her birthday, but she appreciates the cake she gets to eat on that day.
- Brought to You by the Letter "S": The decorations in her hair form an “M”.
- Deadpan Snarker: Music, quite frequently.
- Tsundere: Music and her treatment with Rudie, HJ5's manager.
Baby
Actor: Charlotte Nicdao
Tropes:
- Ambiguously Brown: Baby, due to her tanned skin.
- According to a Gwen Stefani interview, the characters were designed to be ethnically ambiguous, in contrast to the "Harajuku Girls", which were designed to be of Asian descent.
- The Big Guy / Cute Bruiser: Baby obviously gets "hangry" when she isn't happy or is just hungry. From an adorable little girl to a brute who can be strong, she's ready.
- Meaningful Name: Baby is The Baby of the Bunch.
- Naïve Animal Lover: Baby adores all animals, even dangerous ones. She once had to be stopped from giving a hug to a rattlesnake! Sometimes it does get averted, in that Baby's compassion can turn an aggressive creature passive, if she figures out the correct approach to mollify them.
- Team Chef: Baby is sometimes seen in a culinary preparation role. Justified as her love of food would lead her into developing cooking expertise.
- The Cutie
Rudie
Actor: Danny Smith
Tropes:
- Canon Foreigner: Rudie is the only main character not based on a Harajuku Lovers mascot (or any of the other Gwen Stefani mythology gags, for that matter).
- Catchphrase: Nailed it!
R.O.D.
Actor:
Tropes:
- Crazy-Prepared: When Baby brings five stray Monster Pets into the house, R.O.D. later explains he implanted them all with tracking microchips 5 minutes after arrival in case something went wrong. It did, one of Love's inventions swapped their minds with the monster pets and HJ5 ended in the pet impound.
- Gentleman Snarker: When commenting on the absurdity of the situation in which he is often ordered to do something unusual, expect him to politely and immediately point out the ludicrousness of the occurrence.
- I Am Very British: He speaks with an Upper Class English accent, is impeccably polite and serves tea promptly at 4pm each day. Justified in that he used to be in the employ of a diplomatic embassy that went out of business before being hired as HJ-5's driver, so these traits were likely chosen to assist that job function.
- Stiff Upper Lip: No matter what craziness or danger he is in, R.O.D. is completely unperturbed by the chaos.
- The Jeeves: When not driving the team van or bus, he has additional duties as their butler.
Secondary Characters
Colonel Spyke
Actor: Jacquie Brennan
- Crazy-Prepared: She has defense plans for every kind of giant beast attack, including oversized gorilla, atomic dinosaurs, rampaging gingerbread man and monster wombats.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Can often be persuaded by HJ5 to let them solve her problems with more tact and less explosions.
- Tank Goodness: She really likes her tanks and "cannons that go boom!"
Twisty T
Actor: Danny Smith
- Easily Forgiven: Despite HJ5 causing massive expensive property damage to Twisty's T house and investments each time he needs a favor, he always forgives them and asks for their help again.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Twisty T is apparently based on Jay-Z.
- Unfazed Everyman: When G meets him while in a monster pet body, he doesn't react beyond saying hello perfectly calmly. When G asks him why he isn't surprised, Twisty answers "He's seen so much strange stuff that nothing astounds him anymore".
Villains
General NoFun
Actor: Paul Henri
- Big Bad: General Nofun is the closest this series has to one.
- Dastardly Whiplash
Commander Bo-Ring
Actor: Ian Bliss
- Public Hater, Private Fan: Pretends to hate HJ-5 because of his job, but secretly is one of their biggest fans. He even headlined for the band for two weeks under an assumed identity and when the girls found out who he really was, they let him keep performing.
- The Dragon: Commander Bo-Ring, to General NoFun.
Tizzie Lizzie
Actor: Natalie Bond
- Alpha Bitch: Tizzie Lizzie owns a mansion, where she lives with her father and her robot servants.
Angelica
Actor: Amanda Harrison
- Evil Genius: Angelica has openly admitted to being evil. Fortunately, her intellect is dedicated to proving her intellectual superiority over Love instead of world conquest or something else equally as unpleasant.
- Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Angelica also uses complicated words.Angelica: You're just a gallus domesticus.
Love: Hey! Who are you calling chicken? - The Rival: Angelica has been competing for years in scientific contests of varying kinds with Love, usually as the winner. But her winning streak has been derailed at least twice due to overcompetence and competiveness.
