Characters / Knightmare Series 5 Teams

Go To

Team 1

Dungeoneer: Kathryn
Advisors: Alison, Fay, Rayleen
From: Liphook
Object of quest: Cup
Level attained: Level 2
Cause of death: Misguidance

  • Coordinated Clothes: The team wears matching outfits of yellow t-shirts and black pants. Pickle is quick to dub them the Bee Team.
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: The first of many teams to be killed by the causeway, with the team's panicky guidance ultimately sending Kathryn over the side of the causeway.
Treguard: A slip for Kathryn, Team. So the rest of you must fall with her.

Team 2

Dungeoneer: Richard
Advisors: Daniel, Darren, James
From: Gillingham, Kent
Object of quest: Cup
Level attained: Level 2
Cause of death: Incorrect clue object choice

  • Indy Ploy: On realising they should have picked up the gold instead of the horn, the team attempted a rather clever one by trying to use the horn as a bribe instead, claiming it was a magical horn that could grant wishes. Unfortunately for them, it was a goblin horn and the character they were trying it on was Skarkill, an expert goblin trainer, meaning that he immediately recognized the horn and realized they were trying to trick him. Skarkill told Richard to blow the horn himself, and when he did, some goblins came to capture him. It wasn't unknown for the producers to reward ingenuity, so had they tried it on a different character, it might have worked.
  • Tragic Mistake: Despite it being hinted twice that they'd need gold in order to bribe Skarkill, the advisors panicked when Ariadne appeared and made a fatal error in telling Richard to get the goblin horn instead of the gold bar.
Treguard: Team, if only you'd had the gold, you could have bribed him.

Team 3

Dungeoneer: Sarah
Advisors: Helen, Keighley, William
From: Northampton
Object of quest: Crown
Level attained: Level 3
Cause of death: Indecision

  • Accuse the Witness: Gwendoline accuses the team of killing a young deer when it was clear that it was Julius Scaramonger, who they met moments earlier, who did it. The fact that they took the wrong clue object much earlier (a bottle of poison instead of an arrow) didn't help matters.
  • Aggressive Negotiations: What ultimately did the team in. They demanded that Elita help them before they'd consider handing over the gem, despite it being clear that Elita had little patience. As a result of their dithering, when they actually did give her the gem she immediately ran off with it, leaving them without the magic they needed to slow the Corridor of Blades down to a manageable speed.
Treguard: Elita might have saved you from this fate, but you couldn't make up your minds. And now, you've lost your dungeoneer.
  • Fatal Flaw: Their inability to make up their minds, noticeable from the moment when they decide on the object of their quest.
  • Insane Troll Logic: On Level 1, when the team find their first choice of clue objects, one of the advisors for some reason suggests hiding a knife. They then, despite Treguard hinting at taking an arrow, take the wrong clue object anyway (a bottle of poison) which they then tried to bribe Julius Scaramonger -and later Gwendoline- with!
  • Reverse Escort Mission: In a rare moment of intelligence, the team manage to talk Sir Hugh de Wittless out of rescuing them by having him escort them for a while.
  • Summon Magic: Called on Pixel by spellcasting her name. They then sent her away at her demand by dispelling her name as well.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Sometimes regarded as the worst team of Series 5, despite getting to Level 3 and some Born Lucky moments; an incorrect choice of clue object in Level 1, allowing a haunting to attack them in Level 2, taking too long to give Elita a gem in Level 3 and finally walking forward straight into a blade in the Corridor of Blades! They could give Team 6 of Series 2 a run for their money!

Team 4

Dungeoneer: Ben
Advisors: John, Jonathan, Ray
From: Exeter
Object of quest: Shield

  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: The only winners of Series 5, and one of only two Series 5 teams (the other being the preceding team) to even reach Level 3.
  • Elemental Powers: Used a FREEZE spell to fight Aesandre and a FIRE spell to free the shield.

Team 5

Dungeoneer: Jenna
Advisors: Andrea, Ann, Kelly
From: Exeter
Object of quest: Crown
Level attained: Level 1
Cause of death: Misguidance

  • Failed a Spot Check: For some reason Andrea decided to take charge of directing Jenna on the causeway despite being short-sighted and having forgotten to bring her glasses to filming. As a result, she inadvertently misguided Jenna onto a sword instead of a helmet thinking said helmet was that of a frightknight, causing the floor to fall away from beneath Jenna and sending her plummeting to her doom.
Treguard: You chose the right path, Team, but you didn't stay on it.
  • Medal of Dishonor: They were the least successful team from Series 4—8 — which were generally a lot more forgiving than Series 1—3 — having only made it halfway through Level 1 when their quest ended. Only two other teams post-Series 3 failed to make it to Level 2, and even then, they at least made it to the end of Level 1 before committing some foul-up which stopped them from progressing any further.

Team 6

Dungeoneer: Alex
Advisors: Grant, Ian, Richard
From: Amersham, Buckinghamshire
Object of quest: Cup
Level attained: Level 2
Cause of death: Improper timing

  • Bag of Holding: Used a BAG spell to help Elita capture her stolen voice.
  • Everyone Went to School Together: The team came from the Dr Challoner's Grammer School.
  • Insane Troll Logic: The team tried to cast the BAG spell on a haunting thinking it was Elita's lost voice.
  • Insult Misfire: When first encountering Elita's lost voice, the voice snarkily asked Alex, "What has a silly hat and looks ugly?" The advisors take it to be a clue that they need to solve until Alex finally realizes that it's referring to him!
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: Yet another team to die on the causeway. In this case it was because they spent too long getting Alex lined up just right before stepping onto the next correct part of the causeway, which caused the part Alex was standing on to collapse underneath him.
Treguard: Oh, boys, your brainwork was good, but your timing let you down.
  • Summon Magic: Summoned Sir Hugh de Witless via a HERO spell to fend off Skarkill. Hugh then departed without the team needing to dispell the spell.

Team 7

Dungeoneer: Chris
Advisors: Keith, Kieran, Paul
From: London
Object of quest: Crown
Level attained: Level 2
Cause of death: Incorrect password due to incorrect clue object choice

  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: Chris wore yellow and all of his advisors wore red.
  • Humiliation Conga: How the end of their quest played out. They inadvertently turned Chris into a goblin after purchasing a duff spell from Julius Scaramonger, causing him to nearly get fatally clonked on the head by Brother Mace. Then they were unable to summon Motley due to lacking his folderol (well, they had been rushed by a haunting earlier on), meaning they didn't get the password they needed to pass the Blocker. Adding insult to injury, they then tried using the causeway combination as the password, only for Chris to call that out wrong as well.
Treguard: Team, Motley would've given you the password, but you just... couldn't find him.
  • Scary Stinging Swarm: Gave Skarkill a jar of honey that summoned a swarm of bees when opened. Unlike the two instances in Series 2 where this occured, the bees were actually visible.

Team 8

Dungeoneer: Duncan
Advisors: Ian, Deborah, Richard
From: Windsor
Object of quest: Sword
Level attained: Level 1
Cause of death: Missing the intended stop

  • Epic Fail: The only team this series not to correctly carry out the descender puzzle; they were told to halt it seven floors down, but ended up not doing so until they were ten floors down. This resulted in Duncan exiting the descender into the Corridor of Blades, where his quest came to a swift end.
Treguard: Team, you missed your station and now, Duncan is missing parts of his body.
Pickle: A definite case of "Done" and "Can".
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Less than a second passed between Duncan's entering the Corridor of Blades and his being sliced in two. Most likely the production team decided that he should die for not being able to follow the simple instructions for the descender, and put him in a situation where he had no realistic chance of avoiding instant death.
  • The Silent Bob: Deborah didn't say a single word after the quest proper began, and Richard only spoke a couple of times. This was most likely the main contributing factor to their death.

Team 9

Dungeoneer: Kelly
Advisors: Keighley, Rachel, Taryn
From: Rochdale
Object of quest: Sword
Level attained: Level 2

  • Left Hanging: To much less of an extent than the teams in Series 2-4, mind. Their quest ended somewhat abruptly, but at least it was for an actual reason, namely Lord Fear and Aesandre intended to freeze the dungeon, forcing them to summon Hordriss in order to escape in time.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Only had time to get as far as the second room of Level 2, before Series 5 had to be drawn to an end. It's likely that the producers intended for the previous team to be the last of this series, but they ended up making such a hash of their quest that the producers decided to kill them off and let this team have the limelight for the last episode-and-a-bit.
