Kevin & Kell by Bill Holbrook
Tropes: A to B | C to I | J to R | S to Z

These are relatives and friends of Kevin Dewclaw, including employees of Hare-Link, and the Herbivore Forum before it.

Bentley Kindle (Rabbit)

Kevin's father. Habitual miscreant, a rogue reviled by the Rabbit Warren and the outside world. Has spent time in prison frequently, and disowned his largest son for a very long time, even before he married a wolf. Though he has softened over time, and today applies his ill-gotten talents as a sort of Knight in Sour Armor specializing in housing people in need of hiding.

  • Cigar Chomper: A regular criminal, he's proven his toughness and intelligence by surviving clashes with other crooks and years in jail, and is rarely seen without a cigar in his mouth (the few times when it's absent, he's usually either in the hospital or in prison).
  • Expy: In the early strips when the rabbit warren was compared to the internet, he was presented as a "corrupted" version of the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, being a physical manifestation of all the get-rich-quick scams on the internet.
  • Greaser Delinquents: In the flashback where Elanor chases him when they're young, he's dressed as one, fitting behavior for how he became as an adult.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may be a con-artist, but he's not completely without scruples — before being convinced by the police to wiretap the Bovine herd, he decided he'd rather die than hand Kevin over to them; and he willingly took the blame for the murder Danielle accidentally committed. He is also known to hide runaways and hunted family friends in his burrow, which he doesn't want people to know.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: When he is the hero or savior of a given story, he's typically self-conscious about it, and/or still has a ton of attitude to it.
  • The Missus and the Ex: A gender-flipped version: When Dorothy's boyfriend Douglas went to prison, they shared a cell, and ended up becoming good friends because of it. Bentley later told Kevin that he arranged for Douglas to be his cellmate so he could gauge Douglas' suitability as a potential mate for Dorothy. Douglas even gave Bentley the idea to try to get released on good behavior, and both were paroled at the same time.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: For as low as Bentley thought of Kevin for the longest time, he probably did Kevin a favor by breaking up his marriage with Angelique.
  • The One That Got Away: Non-romantic example with Elanor (though they were a romantic item later in life, the end of that online fling doesn't count as this trope). He's one of the few prey that she never caught and she respects him even now for that.
  • Reformed Criminal: He began to seek "good behavior" when he heard Douglas, at the time his cellmate in prison, was seeking that to shorten his sentence.

Dorothy Kindle (Rabbit)

Kevin's mother. A physical therapist by trade, and one of the first female easter bunnies. She got fed up of Bentley's shenanigans, divorced, and fled to The Wild for years before returning on a mission to convert her carnivorous granddaughter from Kevin. She eventually re-married to Douglas Squirrel, and formed a Vitriolic Best Buds relationship with his son's mother-in-law, wolf Elanor Dewclaw.

  • Breaking the Glass Ceiling: She was the first female Easter Bunny ever in the rabbit warren.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: She had a relationship with the pig that would eventually become Rudy's college gardening coach when they were in college together. When he was drafted for the pros, he proposed marriage, but the rabbit council threatened to drum Dorothy out of the Easter Bunny corps if she married a non-rabbit. She turned him down and married Bentley instead to keep her job.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: At least in her younger years. She did marry Bentley of all people.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: Turns out Dorothy as a young rabbit was quite cute. Her younger self has been compared in-canon to her granddaughter, Coney.
  • Miniature Senior Citizens: She's elderly and one of the tiniest rabbits shown, barely taller than Wendell, her seven year old grandson. It seems she lost a bit of height since her youth because flashback strips show her a little taller.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Perfectly capable of handling herself and an all-round badass, you don't want this rabbit on your tail.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: Was this to Kell, it has died down in later years as she bonded more with Kell and her family. She did have a rivalry for a time with Elanor as well, but this has turned into Vitriolic Best Buds over time.
  • Riches to Rags: Dorothy owned $250,000 in Enron stock before leaving for the Wild.

Danielle Fennec; née Kindle (Rabbit)

One of Kevin's youngest sisters (sibling #29). An accountant extraordinaire; very good with numbers. Actually a Doppelgänger of the original Danielle Kindle, who died. This version was originally human. Long story. Married to George Fennec, making her Fiona's stepmother. Mother of Francis.

  • Age-Gap Romance: Presuming the doppelganger is the same age as the original, who was 25 when she died, Danielle is at least 10 years younger than George. She was young enough that she was able to pass as a teenage daughter of his when he had to masquerade as a rabbit for a time prior to their actual romantic connection.
  • Cassandra Truth: Once Danielle told Dorothy that she wasn't the real Danielle. When they were finished...
    Danielle: There's a 99.999999999999% chance she doesn't believe me.
Lindesfarne: If your baby comes out as a human, she will.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: The original Danielle threw herself in the way of a sharpened stake meant for George.
  • Humanity Ensues: Inverted Trope — the human Danielle became a rabbit.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: After the meeting where George granted half interest in Hare-Link back to Kevin in exchange for an equipment purchase, Kevin knocked on one of his locker doors on the way out of the office. Danielle then emerged from said locker after he left.
    Danielle: I...guess it's no secret?
George: ...that we're newlyweds? 'course not!
  • Literal Metaphor: She and George had sparks from not long after they met. No, not just romantic ones, they literally create an electric charge when they touch.
  • Older Than They Look: At age 25, she could still pass for a fifteen year old teenager.
  • Replacement Goldfish: George got Danielle to masquerade as his daughter while he was masquerading as a rabbit to woo a fennec fox (who claimed to like rabbits more than other fennecs). When said fennec fox dumped George (and he revealed his ruse, ruining any possible chance he had to recover the relationship), it took all of one day for Danielle to be floated as a possible replacement. Not to mention, after the original Danielle's death, it didn't take long for the strip to set up a human Danielle who would eventually take the original's place and marry George.
  • Trapped in Another World: While trapped, she attempted to follow Nick & Ki back home in the crossover episode, but it only worked for two of them.
  • Walking Spoiler: What, the multitude of spoiler tags in this entry weren't a clue?

George Fennec (Fennec)

Once a jet-setting businessman who was detached from his first daughter, Fiona. Used to be much more of a snob when he was married to Martha. Eventually he bought Hare-Link. Later he married Danielle and is determined to be a more connected father this time around with Francis.

  • The Alleged Boss: When he initially bought Hare-Link, Kevin actually ran the business. George didn't even have any actual duties until he became the de facto daycare for toddler Coney and infant Francis. He resigned as CEO in 2019 so he could homeschool the growing Francis.
  • Arranged Marriage: With his first wife Martha.
  • The Ditz: A male version. Dorothy snarks when discussing Francis' potential DNA she doesn't think he's smart enough to have had any primate DNA in his background.
  • Electric Love: It was when sparks literally flew between him and Danielle that he began to fall for her. And it was when they resumed with her doppëlganger that she decided to stay and they remained together.
  • The Missus and the Ex: Much to his chagrin, Martha and Danielle get along fairly well.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Initially had this attitude. Though not extremely wealthy, his bloodline was so purebred he had to marry Martha to inject some new blood into it. Later played it as an inversion in that while his daughter Fiona was the wealthy one, he was the one with an idiotic attitude regarding spending her money.

Angelique (Rabbit)

Born a rabbit, was married to Kevin for years, but divorced him. Has 20 adopted skunk children from a lover that abandoned her. Eventually kicked out of the Rabbit Warren for selling their secrets to Herd Thinners. Now married to R.L., and changed her species to a rat.

After the arrest of R.L. for fraud, Angelique took over as acting CEO of Herd Thinners. A Doppelgänger served his sentence for a while, as the real R.L. hid in The Wild, too injured from his original battle with Kell to take over himself. While R.L. eventually came back, he remains retired, and Angelique is still de facto in charge of Herd Thinners as of 2022.

Gweneth (Skunk)

One of the 20 children Angelique adopted during her second marriage, making her Lindesfarne's adoptive step-sister. She's much, much nicer than her mother.

  • Call It Karma: She sees balancing out her mother's bad karma as a hobby.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her biological father was a deadbeat, marrying Angelique, and then leaving her to deal with all of his kids without paying child support. (At least, until Lindesfarne intervened)
    Gweneth: MOMMY! SANTA CAME!
  • Happily Adopted: Surprisingly, Angelique and R.L. do legitimately care about their children, even if they don't always show it.
  • Missing Mom: It's unknown what happened to her biological mother.
  • No Name Given: We know one of Angelique's other children is named Bosworth. None of the others have been named, and only Gweneth has had any real relevance to the plot.
  • Parental Neglect: Besides her aforementioned biological father's situation, she was saddened as a child when her parents flew off to the Caribbean and left her and the rest of her siblings alone for Christmas. Fortunately, Lindesfarne guilted them into returning.
  • Smelly Skunk: She is not afraid to use her musk when necessary. Like when she used it to save R.L. from a herd of deer that took advantage of his morbidity in The Wild and trapped him in a salt lick.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Despite now having a very privileged life with how rich her parents are, she's still a very nice girl.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Tends to wear skirts and bows in her hair, but showed up in full umpire gear from her hobby of softball to babysit Turvey.
  • Vague Age: The ages of Gweneth and her siblings were unknown for a long time; they were definitely older than Coney and younger than Rudy. But she was established at 12 when she offered to babysit for Lindesfarne early in her pregnancy.

Candace Canid (Dog)

Was technical support for the Herbivore Forum, and Hare-Link thereafter. Specific breed is Border Collie. Outsourced herself to New Zealand. Adopted Corrie, but Corrie found their life too restricting, so Corrie's clone, Dolly took her place. She then adopted her again when she was deaged into a newborn form called Mary.

  • Loved by All: She is a very kind and patient tech support, so much so that some clients call Hare link just to talk to her, she even got a few marriage proposals because of that.
  • My Beloved Smother : This trait seems to have faded away, but used to be very controlling of Corrie's life, organizing her activities, steps, and scheduling hourly hugs.
  • Put on a Bus: Moved to New Zealand when her husband got a job herding The Lord of the Rings actors. Except for a few cameos, she hasn't been in the comic since, though a 2020 comic confirms she's still employed at Hare-Link.
  • Obsessively Organized: So much so to the point that once, to rile her up, Kell threw a bunch of papers all in the air and dared her not to organize them.

Douglas Squirrel (Squirrel)

Now Dorothy's husband. He got caught up in crime in his younger days, and in this dimension he is "D.B. Cooper", who flew from justice after hijacking an airliner. After finally getting caught and serving his time (with Bentley, who used it as a Secret Test of Character), Dorothy took him back. He sold a book about his experience.

  • Reformed Criminal: Used to be a thief but became a upstanding citizen later on in his life.
  • Secretly Wealthy: It turned out he'd been hoarding acorns for years that allowed him to reap quite the nest egg in his old age. However, he did have to cash in on the hoard a little early when the flood in early 2010 caused his acorns to begin to germinate. Kevin arranged for Domain to buy and plant the acorns to replace real estate lost in the flood.

Prudence Luckyfoot; née Kindle (Rabbit)

One of Kevin's other siblings, mother of Wendell Luckyfoot (thus aunt of Coney, step-aunt of Lindesfarne and Rudy). Usually only seen when Wendell is in trouble for some reason.
