The Campers

    As a Team
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7cae59aa_bfbd_4627_96f0_11a70ad2e7a6.jpeg
  • A Friend in Need: When in trouble, the teens are quick to help each other out with a helping hand or via distraction, despite any argument they had beforehand.
  • Action Survivor: All the kids are effectively this.
  • All for Nothing: Despite all their struggles, none of them make it off the island in Season 1. Subverted at the end of Season 2, while they didn't make it to the boat and despite turning on the beacon, they're determined to get off the island on their own somehow. By the end of Season 3, they managed to sail from Isla Nublar, only to be shipwrecked and stranded on another dinosaur-infested island by the start of Season 4. But Season 5 subverts this trope with the campers finally returning to their homes and families.
  • Ascended Extra: A mild case with the campers besides Darius. While the latter is obviously the central character in the first season, the others (save Ben, who has been separated from the group and assumed dead) become nearly as important as him in the second. Season 3 onwards, all six are almost a Friends-style ensemble of main characters.
  • Badass Normal: All the kids are all just your run-of-the-mill teens, but are seen accomplishing and surviving feats most adults couldn't; their crowning feat being surviving in the remains of a dinosaur infested Jurassic World for six whole months without any adult.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: The campers will always stop what they're doing to help a dinosaur in trouble. Season 4 points out a few flaws with this, as the number of missed chances to return home is starting to weigh on them, with Yaz even breaking down in tears when the kids miss a plane leaving the island because they stopped to help a dinosaur again.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After five seasons of being stranded on an island and chased by dinosaurs, the kids finally return to their homes and families. The Season 5 finale also shows that they're still friends and kept in touch after going their separate ways, even years later.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: All of the campers' hair changes as the series progresses, signifying the passage of time on the island. All of their hair visibly grows, with Brooklynn's natural roots showing and Kenji's facial hair growing out. Brooklynn gets to fix her roots, and Kenji gets to shave in the fifth season. And in the Distant Finale, only Sammy's hairstyle remains unchanged. Darius' hair is shorter, Kenji's is no longer spiked up, Brooklynn has Boyish Short Hair, Ben's grown out his facial and head hair, and Yaz went from waist-length hair in a Tomboyish Ponytail to medium-length hair that she lets down.
  • Face Your Fears: The teens are forced to do this in their desperate struggle to survive.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: The kids weren't particularly close with each other at first, but warm up to each other due to the constant struggle together.
  • Headbutting Heroes: For a portion of the series, there's considerable drama and conflict between the characters. This mostly evaporates by Season 2 in favor of being a 'Camp fam', though they still get frustrated with each other in high-stress situations.
  • Just a Kid: Teens technically, but it still applies.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Somewhat justified since the kids initially thought they were only going for a short trip. Completely justified after they're too busy running from the dinosaurs.
  • Made of Iron: While not completely invulnerable, the kids are quite hardy, especially when it comes to fall damage; the only one ever showing injury in a fall was Yasmina in the last few episodes of Season 1.
  • Misery Builds Character: Much of the teen's characterization is built on their desperate struggles to survive. By the end of Season 1, they have all gone through considerable character development and are better people because of it.
  • Multinational Team: All the campers are quite ethnically diverse. Ben and Brooklynn are white, Darius is black, Kenji is Japanese, Sammy is Latina, and Yasmina is Arab.
  • Shipper on Deck: Each and every one of the campers support the romantic relationships that blossom during the show, such as the one that Kenji has with Brooklynn and the one that Yaz has with Sammy.
  • Squad Nickname: Start to refer to themselves as the 'Camp Fam' towards the end of Season 2. The final episode has the public refer to them as the "Nublar Six".
  • The Team: Are essentially forced to become this due to their situation. Their relationships are a bit rocky at first, but they end up warming to each other eventually.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: In Season 1, they spend just as much time bickering with each other as they work together. This largely fades away in the Season 1 finale when the campers resolve to stick together to survive on the island, although some tension still comes up every now and then. By the time the third season rolls, they are definitely True Companions, and by the fourth, they outright refer to themselves as a family.
  • Totally Radical: Kenji mainly, though Brooklynn engages in some of it too as part of her internet persona. Yaz begins to pile some on some slang herself upon opening up more from Season 3 onward. Darius tries to imitate Kenji's mojo on occasion, such as with Ben in the Season 3 opener...with poor results.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Ever since the park goes wild, the teens get in worse and worse situations, surviving only through a mixture of luck and what little skills they have. All of them end up getting left behind by the last ferry and forced to survive.
  • True Companions: End up becoming this in the final episode of Season 1 and proven in Season 2. Season 3 pokes a few holes in this as the campers get closer to getting off the island like Yaz and Kenji realize that maintaining their friendship will be hard given they all live in different parts of the country and will have their own separate lives to get back to once home. The ending of Season 5, however, reveals that they are still as close as ever and use video chats to keep in touch with one another weekly.
  • Vague Age: It's clear that they're all in the range of their late preteens to mid-teens, but thus far their exact ages have never been mentioned.
  • We Work Well Together: Come to this realization quickly after surviving several harrowing moments together.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: The characters all get a chance to say this to each other.

    Darius Bowman

Voiced By: Paul Mikel Williams

A whip-smart but slightly withdrawn camper who is a dinosaur fanatic and leader of the group.

  • Ascended Fanboy: How he sees his entry to the park. Despite what happened, he still seems excited about the park.
  • Bat Deduction: Is able to figure out exactly what happened during the climax of Jurassic World simply by observing some of the damage to the buildings and fencing.
  • Black and Nerdy: The resident dino nerd of the group.
  • Badass Bookworm: He develops into this after the Indominus attacks, using his knowledge of dinosaurs to protect everyone.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Since he was young it was Darius and his dad's dream to go to Jurassic World, sadly his dad died of an illness before they could go, but Darius continued the dream and worked hard to achieve it. Eventually, he did succeed, was invited to Camp Cretaceous, and got to enjoy all of one day at the park before everything went wrong.
  • Bookworm: He loves to read about dinosaurs. In fact, his reading and knowledge of dinosaurs are what let him win the contest that got him into Camp Cretaceous in the first place. Gets deconstructed during the storm when he thinks that his knowledge of dinosaurs will let him catch a panicking Sinocerotops and bring it back to the group. Instead, he spooks her and sets off a stampede resulting in the group being separated.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Being sort of forced into the role of the leader by the others takes its toll on him. Eventually, it becomes clear he's taken the guilt of everything that's happened so badly that he feels he has to do everything up to and including trying to sacrifice his own life to save the others.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Darius' father died before the events of the series.
  • Determinator: Basically the mantra he shared with his father.
  • Disappeared Dad: Not only did his father die before the series began, but his mother never remarried, hence his need for a father figure.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He becomes the first person to beat the Jurassic World video game by bashing at it for hours and by using his knowledge of dinosaurs to win it, establishing three things: he's smart, he loves dinosaurs, and he does not give up.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: How he first beats the game, he gets plenty more later when he has to figure out how the kids can survive in the park.
  • The Everyman: Despite attending Jurassic World is a longtime dream for him and his father, he only managed to get there by winning a contest, suggesting he's the only kid in the group who doesn't have the financial or social status to afford the park any other way.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Tries to invoke this several times in the last few episodes of Season 2, trying to tell the others to leave without him to make up for his mistake. They won't let him, though.
  • In-Series Nickname: The other kids take a liking to call him Dino-Nerd.
  • It's All My Fault: Darius feels guilty for telling Mitch and Tiff, who turn out to be big-game hunters, about the dinosaur watering hole, endangering the dinosaurs, and subsequently getting his friends in trouble.
  • Just a Kid: He's said to be 12-years-old in official media.
  • Moral Myopia: He's angry with Kenji for joining his absent father's side because of his desperation of approval from him, yet Darius's own motivation of going Jurassic World is because of his shared dream with his late father.
  • Mythology Gag: Shares his surname with the rich family whose daughter was injured by Compies in The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
  • Only Sane Man: The least likely kid to get into an argument with the others.
  • The Leader: His determination and plans land him at the lead of the group after the Indominus attacks and strands them.
  • Love Confession: Has a small platonic one with Ben when he's trying to convince him to leave the island in Season 3. Ben returns the sentiment.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Has a tendency to do this, a lot, though it's a trait that most of the campers and him share. He gets somewhat called out on risking his friends' lives by Kenji at the end of Season 3.
  • Shipper on Deck: He wholely supports Kenji and Brooklynn's Official Couple status when Kenji confesses it in the Season 4 finale. He also happily cheers for Yaz and Sammy when they have their Big Damn Kiss and become official girlfriends in Season 5.
  • The Smart Guy: Is the most knowledgeable about dinosaurs and is also the one coming up with all the plans and ideas.
  • Tragic Keepsake: He has a raptor-tooth necklace that was a gift from his late father, who had a matching one as well. He loses it in Season 1, though Sammy finds it again in Season 2 when they are rebuilding their base.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • He ends up being called out like this by Kenji at the end of Season 3 for risking their friend's lives for the greater good, which more than likely damages his relationship with Kenji as well.
    • Despite telling him otherwise, he is not inclined to forgive Kenji right away after the latter's betrayal, and he chews him out big time for accidentally destroying the tablet used for communicating with Big Eatie.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: The youngest of the campers (at 12-years-old), but is The Leader of the group, who keeps them together and comes up with all the plans.

    Kenji Kon

Kenji Kon

Click here to see Kenji in Season 3

Voiced By: Ryan Potter

A self-appointed VIP camper described as the self-proclaimed alpha male of the group.

  • Alliterative Name: Kenji Kon.
  • The Apocalypse Brings Out the Best in People: All of the kids gain new sides, but he's by far the most notable, going from an obnoxious blowhard Leader Wannabe to a surprisingly insightful and dependable lancer and a trusted friend to Darius.
  • Are You Sure You Can Drive This Thing?: Is asked this after Kenji revealed that he has a learner's permit, but was not so good at actually driving. Eventually, Yasmina forcibly pushes him aside and takes control.
  • Asian Airhead: Japanese Kenji is not exactly the brightest of the bunch, though it seems that underneath all that arrogance, there's a brain in there somewhere.
  • Bad Boss: Averted in the finale when he's inherited his father's company and is keeping Mantah Corp island running for the safety of the dinosaurs on it, though he claims he "just pay the bills" as Ben and Mae are the ones on the island doing the work.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Kenji has been desperate for his father's approval. He temporarily succeeded in season 5, by being manipulated by him to do his dirty business and turn on his friends. Kenji deeply regrets it when he's realized his father isn't a good person at all.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He claims he has this when Brooklynn first catches him with Darius, as Kenji caught Darius trying to break curfew. In Season 2, he actually displays more of this trait when he looks after Yasmina and her sprained ankle, even carrying her on his back. It gets fully displayed in Season 3 when he takes charge when Darius is not there and puts everyone's safety above everything else, no matter what.
  • The Big Guy: Is the tallest of the group and quite strong (if for no other reason than simply being the oldest), even though he might not be as athletic as Yasmina. He is seen using his muscle more often than the rest of the group, even holding an oxygen tank in the final showdown against Toro.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Sammy get along extremely well since both of them are fun-loving, goofy, and take on the role of The Heart of the group.
  • Blessed with Suck: All his wealth, his knowledge of the important people in the park, and previous private tours? When the dinosaurs run rampant he cannot use anything to his advantage. He lampshades this in Season 3 when he laments to Brooklynn about wishing he had known more useful things.
  • Break the Haughty: Kenji starts out as a dumb jerk jock with an ego too big for his head, but the harrowing experiences start breaking down this part of his personality. By the end of the series, he's more or less forgone his egotistical attitude in favor of just becoming a dependable teammate, though shades of his rich upbringing do show from time to time.
  • Cool Big Bro: As the oldest in the group, this is what he aims to be. His slowly growing friendship with Darius also takes the form of the two of them bonding and fighting like actual brothers. As of the finale, his adoption by the Bowmans means he's this to Darius for real.
  • Crowd Pleaser: Seems quite motivated to get people to gush and praise him, though is less concerned about this once the dinosaurs start causing havoc.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He isn't brought to the island via boat like the rest of the kids, but is instead personally flown in via helicopter, after which he immediately expects Roxie to valet his bags for him.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Fittingly after his Face–Heel Turn, he is mostly seen wearing a nice business suit similar to his father for much of Season 5. He promptly discarded it and switched back to his casual attire after a Heel Realization towards the last episodes.
  • Extremely Protective Child: Kenji is highly protective of his father Daniel, that is until he realizes how much other campers have been like a true family to him.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Early into Season 5, he completely buys into his father's manipulation and turns against his friends under the belief that it's for the greater good. It was only until he returns to Isla Nublar and sees for himself how low Daniel Kon is willing to stoop to save his own business and reputation that he finally realizes how horrible his father truly is and that he's turning into exactly like him if he keeps following down this path, and he finally returns to his friends.
  • Facial Scruff: Since it's been so long they've been trapped on the island, Kenji's started growing some facial hair in Season 3.
    • Averted in the finale after the several year time jump, where he is clean shaven, perhaps to differentiate himself from his facial hair sporting father.
  • Family of Choice: After realizing just how horrible his father really is, Kenji basically disowns him in the final episode, saying that the Campers are his true family. With his father arrested, the Bowmans later adopted him to live alongside Darius in their household.
  • Freudian Excuse: Despite the fact that he turns against his friends in season 5, Kenji does this under the belief of greater good and partly because he wants approval from his distant father.
  • Freudian Excuse Denial: Downplayed. Kenji admits that there's no magical word that he can say to earn his friends' forgiveness after essentially throwing them under the bus despite his reasons, and that he must prove that he's on their side once again.
  • Genre Savvy: When the group makes it onto the monorail, Kenji is hyperaware of something bad happening because something always does. It took a while, but he was right.
  • Gibberish of Love: As his feelings for Brooklynn grow in Season 4, Kenji has a harder and harder time talking coherently to her when they are alone.
  • Happily Adopted: In the final episode, alone and sad after the arrest of his father and with nowhere to go, he's taken in by the Bowman family and the Time Skip shows him still living happily with them.
  • The Heart: A very unique example. In spite of how he acts, Kenji's quick to forgive and is quite perceptive to the other camper's moods. He offers surprisingly insightful advice to them with their individual problems and is good at hearing people out. Kenji claims that he's "the glue that holds the team together" and he's not entirely wrong. His faith in Darius (even if misguided) cements Darius' position as a leader. His advice to Brooklynn repairs her friendship with Sammy which snowballs into having good overall group morale. Kenji is also the one who hears out and helps Yasmina come to terms with lagging behind with her sprained ankle. He seems also much more emotionally distressed when any of his friends are in danger and always will put everyone first.
  • Heroic BSoD: Has a bit of a minor one after Ben's apparent death and losing Bumpy. He becomes uncharacteristically quiet and doesn't even respond to Darius when he calls out to him.
    • Has a second one when Sammy gets poisoned by the Scorpios rex. He is anxious and scared, more than usual, and seems terrified of the idea that Sammy might die. When Sammy appeared to have passed away, he seemed emotionally distressed.
  • Hidden Depths: Kenji is surprisingly insightful when it comes to the other camper's emotions and offers them good advice. He talks to Brooklynn about her grudge against Sammy and helps Yasmina come to terms with her twisted ankle. In addition to being fairly self-aware, Kenji also has the most intimate knowledge of the layout of the park, having been to it so many times that he even knows how to use the access tunnels and has a general understanding of how the monorail works. He also seems aware of his own issues and is also shown to have a difficult relationship with his father. Season 3 revealed that despite his flippant nature, he really does care about his friends and is loyal to them to a fault, willing to do anything to put them safely.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Part of the reason why he tries so hard to impress everyone is that he just wants to be loved.
  • In-Series Nickname: The other campers start to call him Mr. VIP. He is also nicknamed 'Kenj' on occasion.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When the kids first see the Indominus rex, Kenji thinks they'll be safe as long as they stay at the top of the observatory/zipline station, citing how it can't see them. Less than a second later, the Indominus looks up and sees them, as Ben points out.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Is pretty jerkish at the beginning of the series, manipulating Darius to cover for himself and being a bad influence overall. It takes a bit for it to show, but Kenji is shown to be quite sincere and is seen stepping up to help out the other campers when he can. His gold-hearted tendencies come out even more in Season 3 when he is shown to intimately really care about his friends and ends quite furious at Darius gambling with Brooklyn's life when confronting Henry Wu and his mercenaries. However in Season 4, this did not stop him from saving Darius again this time from the Mosasaurus with Kenji confirming that no matter what, he and Darius will always be friends.
  • Kids Driving Cars: Subverted, while he is the only kid in the group with a permit, he doesn't really seem to be that good at it. Later he is shown to barely be able to drive a motorcycle in Season 2.
  • The Lancer: Starts out like this in Season 1, but steps away from the role a bit in Season 2 for Brooklynn. Fully embraces this role in Season 3 when he acts as second in charge while Darius is away.
  • Lazy Bum: He tries to get out of doing work on the new camp base and tells Yasmina that he does his best to 'never try'.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Freely admits that he can count on one hand the number of times he's spent with his dad, and when the others are talking about what they want to do when they get home, he admits the only person he can hang out with is the staff. He's also the only one who didn't object to Sammy declaring they were all friends in Season 1, implying he really enjoyed everyone's company.
  • Lovable Jock: After much Character Development.
  • Miles Gloriosus: He's very full of himself and tries to impress how tough he is on everyone else while trying to weasel his way out of any actual consequences or tough decisions. He grows out of it.
  • Missing Mom: Mentions in the final episode that his mom is "gone". Whether "gone" means deceased or out of the picture is never made clear, but given that nobody showed up for him at the dock towards the end, the former is more likely.
  • The Nicknamer: Is the one who gives Toro the Carnotaurus his name.
  • Official Couple: He is this with Brooklynn as of Season 4.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Always seen with his grating loud egotistical personality and the capability to annoy everyone with it. He shrugs off most of the scary happenings in the beginning with his big ego, though it begins to fade away with each harrowing encounter. Best seen after Ben's Disney Death and losing Bumpy; Kenji noticeably becomes despondent and quiet, unlike the other kids who were quarreling at the time. He even has a considerable Freak Out as he was folding under stress due to the others pressuring him to lead them the right way, which he was having trouble with due to the change in layout due to the lockdown.
    • Seen again in Season 3 where for the first time in the series, Kenji isn't just laughing or goofing off. He isn't willing to forgive the idea of putting anyone in danger and shows a much more serious side, saying that he would always put his friends first and seems to cross with Darius for putting Brooklynn and the others in danger.
  • One of the Kids: He's a little older than the rest, but still a kid.
  • Parental Neglect: His father doesn't seem to care much about him; his father doesn't even have any pictures of him. Although Kenji tries not to act like it's a big deal, it clearly bothers him.
  • Personal Arcade: Mentions that he has a bowling alley in his basement.
  • Properly Paranoid: Once the campers are on the monorail, he immediately calls foul since something always attacks them whenever they feel safe. While it took longer than usual, he's ultimately proven right when the pteranodons are drawn to the vehicle's lights.
  • Seen It All: Has been to Jurassic World so many times due to his incredible wealth that he is mostly unimpressed with dinosaurs whenever Darius tries to get him excited about them.
  • Shipper on Deck: Kenji joyfully hugs both Yaz and Sammy when he learns that they have become a couple. He is about to give them their official couple name, only to be beaten by Brooklynn.
  • Spiky Hair: Kenji has spiky hair throughout the series. Averted by the time skip.
  • Sunglasses at Night: Not exactly at night, but he wears sunglasses in the dark River Adventure ride, even remarking that it's 'pretty dark' before Brooklynn removes his sunglasses.
  • Tempting Fate: A few times throughout the show, primarily in Season 1. Rationalizes that the Indominus Rex can't find them on the zip-line tower? The beast immediately spots them and attacks. Talking aloud that they're not safe on the monorail despite the others' reassurance? Pteranodons eventually come and swarm the train. Claiming that he knows the quickest way to the south dock via underground tunnels? The park's security system kicks in and eventually locks down the tunnels, delaying them long enough that they're left behind.
  • Undying Loyalty: Stated to be one of his good points, he has always been loyal to his friends.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In Season 2 Episode 7, he messes around with a power control panel in the park's surveillance room and unwittingly short-circuits the cryotube containing the frozen E750/Scorpios rex, allowing it to break out and becomes a major problem for the kids in Season 3. For better or worse, neither he nor anyone else ever finds out about it.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: He pretends to be one of these to manipulate Darius. In a sad twist, it turns out he gave up on his dad's approval long ago, revealing that his façade may not be all fake. Played for Drama for all its worth in Season 5, where his dad finally shows up in the story as the Big Bad and tries to manipulate Kenji into following his family's dirty business. Kenji, who's desperate for his father's approval, temporarily ruins his friendship with the rest of the Campers. It was only until he sees for himself that his father is indeed a bad person and not just someone who's forced to do bad things for the greater good that he finally comes around and return to his friends.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Says this word-for-word when he and the other campers are running from a T. rex, along with the realization they're on another island full of dinosaurs in Season 4.

    Brooklynn

Voiced By: Jenna Ortega

A camper and the star of the most popular travel and lifestyle vlog on social media.

  • Armor-Piercing Question:
    • Gets stunned into silence when Kenji asks her what good does it do her or anyone else to continue being angry at Sammy for her betrayal.
    • Not only a question but some hard-cold facts about morality. She questions Wu about whether or not what he was doing was really truly innovation if it just harms people in the end.
  • Brutal Honesty: Is often the one to slap the cold hard truth into everyone. Most notably, Brooklynn expresses that they really just don't have the time to look for Ben, lest they miss the last ferry.
  • Cheery Pink: Pink hair and clothes and can be quite cheerful even when not hyping her vlog.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Comes off like this in Season 2. Her nose for content also makes her attentive to her surroundings, which leads her to come up with wild theories about Mitch and Tiff. Darius outright calls her this later on, but it turns out she was right. Hap compliments her as the only one in the group with any sense.
  • Damsel in Distress: She ended up being this in Season 3 after she was captured by Dr. Wu and his mercenaries. She held her own pretty well and almost managed to escape on her own, though needed the whole team to help free her.
  • Crowd Pleaser: She explains early on that she bases her self-worth on how well her videos do online.
  • Friendless Background: Thanks to being exclusively homeschooled by online tutors and her high celebrity status, Brooklynn has never really had any friends, with her only form of social contact coming from her followers.
  • Happily Adopted: Implied, She briefly mentions her "dads" to Kenji in the episode "In Too Deep." Depending on if she meant gay parents or one is a step-parent the former could imply that she is adopted.
  • Hidden Depths: Brooklynn is extremely resourceful and her background as a viral vlogger means that she has a lot of experience in odd things from lock-picking to building a base. In Season 2, it's revealed that she had been homeschooled her entire life and had never gone to school, which hampered her socialness with other people. She also seemed more concerned about her followers than her parents.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Admits this to Darius and Sammy, saying she does a lot of stupid things for views and fears losing followers.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: In Season 2, the campers turn to her for tips on building a shelter, figuring one of her vlogs covered a similar topic. She is annoyed that they would assume as much... then admits they're right.
  • In-Series Nickname: Darius starts calling her Superstar, though the nickname gets less used by the end of Season 2.
  • Jack of All Trades: Due to her status as a popular vlogger, Brooklynn has familiarized herself with doing all sorts of DIY projects and opening herself to new experiences. This leads to Brooklynn having intimate knowledge about certain tasks like how to pick a lock or even build a base. It starts to haunt her a bit in season 4 when the others casually expect her to be able to reprogram a robot; while she eventually succeeds, the weight of that expectation leads to some Heroic BSoD on her part, causing her friends to apologize.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: To Darius, who unfortunately chose to approach her at a time when she was upset about losing her followers. She does apologize and later proves to be a good friend.
  • Jerkass Ball: Picks it up when she and Sammy go investigating for info on Mantah Corp. She treats it as another one of her "Unboxing" videos and spearheads the investigation while ignoring Sammy's suggestions. It takes Sammy blowing up on her to realize this and act as a team player.
  • Just a Kid: She's said to be 13-years-old in official media.
  • The Lancer: Adopts this role from Kenji in Season 2 regarding Darius' leadership, more often than not she and he will butt heads on the best plan of action, especially if she thinks he's being reckless.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Kenji lampshades this when they find a cardboard advertisement of her being used to sell phone chargers, dressed exactly the same as she is now.
  • No Social Skills: While not entirely clueless, the fact that she never attended school and that she was a celebrity meant that she didn't really socialize much with others her age. It stunts her friendship with Yasmina and Sammy until they finally find some common ground: a TV Show they all liked.
  • Noodle Incident: Thanks to her vlog show, she has a lot of different skills and experiences that occasionally get a passing mention, like meeting the Queen or punching a shark.
  • Number Two: She is usually the leader when Darius isn't around.
  • Official Couple: She is this with Kenji as of Season 4.
  • Only One Name: Since it's her social media brand. Even the credits don't give her a last name.
  • Properly Paranoid: Played with. Of all the campers, Brookylnn is the most suspicious of any new people they meet, and her instincts have been proven right (Mitch, Tiff, Daniel Kon) just as they've been proven wrong (Hap, Mae)
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Famous!: While the other campers weren't allowed to bring cell phones, she was due to her status as a social media influencer. In all likelihood, she was invited specifically to help promote the Camp on her blog.
  • Shipper on Deck: She squeals with utter delight after seeing Yaz and Sammy have their Big Damn Kiss. She even establishes their official couple name before Kenji does.
  • Social Media Before Reason: She breaks into Dr. Wu's highly restricted lab and into his documents for views, and later tries to get a photo with an agitated Sinoceratops. Subverted when her phone goes missing before the actual danger goes down, as she quickly prioritizes its ability to connect them with the staff above all else.
  • Spell My Name With An S: While it sounds the same as the famous New York City borough, Brooklynn spells her name with two 'N's.

Voiced By: Kausar Mohammed

A camper described as the strongest and most athletically assured of the camp goers.

  • Affectionate Nickname: The other campers, especially Sammy, quickly start to call her Yaz.
  • Ambiguously Bi:
    • While a very large portion of the fanbase considers many of the main characters to be LGBT, Yaz's interactions with Sammy over the course of the series seem to be hinting at this. At the same time though, it is implied in "Turning Dr. Turner" that she has a crush on Ben as she feels a bit nervous when he politely turns her down as he is still looking for someone else to be in a relationship with.
    • Season 5 confirms that Yaz is bisexual due to the boy crushes she had in the past and that she has officially fallen for Sammy, who reciprocates her feelings with a Big Damn Kiss.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The other kids saw her distant attitude and decided to leave her alone, but Sammy correctly deduced she was just shy and made a point of approaching her. Yaz eventually reciprocates, and so became Sammy's fiercest defender when the accusations start coming. Until she finds out that the accusations were true.
  • Best Friend: While her relationship with Sammy starts off in Season 1, it strengthens to this in Season 3.
  • The Big Gal: While not physically the biggest, her experience as an athlete often designates her as this. Was not so much this at the end of Season 1 and for a portion of Season 2 due to her sprained ankle, but resumes this role after recovering.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Alongside Kenji, Yaz is one of the two older campers, and she is willing to risk her life to protect her friends.
  • Determinator: Most definitely. Best seen by being the only probable one out of all the campers to be able to handle a sprained ankle while running away from dinosaurs.
    • Best seen in Season 3, where she retrieves the antidote for Sammy, scrounging up all the effort she can to find and get that antidote, even if it means outrunning the Scorpios rex.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She has the sharpest wit among the kids, especially when it comes to Sammy, Ben, and Kenji. Her sassiness becomes a bit more pronounced from Season 3 onward, as Kenji notes during the group's yacht party, likely due to overcoming her shyness.
  • Did Not Think This Through: When distracting the Mosasaurus, her satisfaction that her plan worked quickly turns to horror now that the hungry marine reptile is closing in on her specifically. She lampshades it word for word.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Yasmina does not take Sammy's betrayal well after she opened herself up and stuck up for her.
  • Fangirl: She's a big one of in-universe Esther Stone TV series.
  • Hates Being Touched: Makes it clear to Sammy that she wasn't used to hugs and didn't like being touched, though that changes as the series progresses.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being one of the more serious no-nonsense characters, in Season 3 she reveals that she has an obsession with theme park-related tragedies. She's also a good artist if her scrapbook is an indication.
  • Ironic Hell: Downplayed, since she doesn't necessarily do anything morally wrong before twisting her ankle, but it still technically counts as having said Twisted Ankle definitely is her own personal hell, given her athletic and usually driven personality. This results in her feeling useless until Kenji is able to convince her otherwise.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's often gruff, snarky, and can hold a grudge. However, she still cares about the other campers; when Sammy became her friend, she defends her against Brooklynn before finding out she was lying and in the Jurassic World Lagoon, while still angry at her deception, she distracts the Mosasaurus so Ben and Sammy can escape safely.
  • Kids Driving Cars: Unlike Kenji, Yasmina is able to drive considerably well despite not having a learner's permit yet.
  • Knuckle Cracking: Cracks her neck when the group is about to jump from the monorail.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: There's only one time that she's ever seen with her hair out of its Tomboyish Ponytail. It's during the Distant Finale where she's shown being in a happy relationship with Sammy a few years after escaping Mantah Corp island, and it's noticeably shorter.
  • Now Allowed to Hug: Yasmine states that she's not really a hugger. But Cuddle Bug Sam insists anyway. As the two grow closer, Yas is shown being more comfortable and welcoming of the hugs, especially after Sam has a brush with death after their encounter with the Scorpius Rex.
  • Official Couple: She is this with Sammy as of Season 5.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: Yet she's shy around people. At least at first.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: In Season 5, she admits to Ben about having crush on boys in the past while officially falling in love with Sammy.
  • Shipper on Deck: In Season 4 she notices Kenji having a crush on Brooklynn and tries to get them together. This leads to Ben incorrectly assuming that she's coming on to him by distracting him with small talk, really to give Brooklynn and Kenji space, and he later lets her down gently, much to her discomfort.
  • Ship Tease: Not obviously so at first but the fact that she and Sammy end up together at the end of the series will cast this light onto all of their prior interactions in the first four seasons.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's terrified of other people, at least at first.
  • The Stoic: Was quite stoic upon first meeting the other kids. Though she ends up warming up to them and is quite talkative, though still displays traits of this sometimes.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Has her hair done in a ponytail and she's the most athletic of the three girls.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Reveals that she likes Pizza.
  • Twisted Ankle: Thanks to a bad landing on concrete when escaping the Mosasaurus. The other campers are shocked that she's even walking. After a while, it starts to get to her and she feels like she isn't putting as much effort as everyone else, but after talking it out with Kenji she gets over it. The ankle gets better in Season 2 and looks to be fully recovered by Season 3.
  • Was It All a Lie?: After Sammy had put so much energy into befriending her, finding out that Sammy was a spy made Yaz question if any of it was genuine or if it was just part of her cover.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: After Sammy nearly dies from the Scorpios rex poison, Yaz starts to act a lot nicer and even compliment the other campers, she does it so much it starts to freak Kenji, Brooklynn, and even Sammy out. She eventually reveals she just wanted Sammy to not worry about anything.

Voiced By: Raini Rodriguez

A camper described as gregarious, loud, and filled with enthusiasm for the experience of being at Camp Cretaceous. Her family farm supplies meat to the park.

  • Animal Lover: Sammy loves animals in general and this includes most of the dinosaurs. Living on a ranch, Sammy has the most practical knowledge when it comes to how to interact with the dinosaurs as animals, compared to Darius' mostly book-based knowledge of dinosaur facts.
  • Best Friend: She starts out good friends with Yasmina in Season 1, but in Season 3 they solidify their friendship.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She's bigger than the other girls and very chubby, but also very cute and beautiful.
  • Big Fun: She's rounder than the other girls, and she's generally nice and friendly.
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Kenji get along extremely well since both of them are fun-loving, goofy, and take on the role of The Heart of the group.
  • Character Tics: She brushes her hair behind her ear whenever she's nervous.
  • Disney Death: Has a small one in Season 3 after she gets poisoned by the Scorpios rex, though she coughs back to life as soon after Brooklynn administers the antidote.
  • Farmer's Daughter: Appears to be one though it turns out she's not as innocent as she claims. Though once this is all revealed, she is really just this.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Is much more empathetic to the dinosaurs than the others are, even if they are predators.
  • Genki Girl: She is way too enthusiastic and eager to befriend people. It was thought to be a ploy to hide her intentions with spying, but it turns out that this aspect of her personality is genuine.
  • Groin Attack: Sammy pulls one on Daniel Kon after he told her about ordering Kash to blackmail her family.
  • Hairstyle Inertia: The rest of the campers all have changed their hair in the Distant Finale, save for Sammy who still keeps the same hair length with the only change being that she's not wearing her headband.
  • Hartman Hips: Out of all the girls she has the widest hips.
  • The Heart: A more traditional example of Kenji's more unique role. She's always the optimistic one of the group and while not always able to lift the team spirits, she is always brimming with enthusiasm and optimism that makes things a little better.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: When Mantah Corp offers to settle her family's debt if she acts as a spy for them, her parents immediately refused. But she doesn't want her parents to lose the ranch, so she agreed to the deal without their knowledge.
  • It's All My Fault: After Yasmina turns on her for lying to the group about Brooklynn's phone, she eventually breaks down and remarks that it's all her fault that they got into this mess.
  • Ignored Expert: She's a cowgirl and tries to warn the rest away from spooking the herd of herbivores, but they don't listen, which Yaz lampshades after the fact.
  • Must Make Amends: Tried to make amends with Yasmina after she sprains her ankle, but Yasmina is having none of it, though warms up to her again after the Season 1 finale.
  • Mythology Gag: Shares her surname with Marty Gutierrez, one of the protagonists of the first chapter of the original Jurassic Park novel.
  • Never Bareheaded: Despite being thrown and bumped about, Sammy never loses her headband.
  • The Nicknamer: Names a Sinoceratops 'Maria' and names the three Baryonyxes: Chaos, Grim, Limbo.
  • Nice Girl: Sammy is very kind, sweet, caring, loving, compassionate, and levelheaded. Especially to her teammates and Yasmina.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Didn't seem to understand that Yasmina prefers to be by herself and invades her personal space to become friends with her. Slightly averted after it was revealed she partly did this as a cover for being a spy. Then subverted back into straight territory when it turns out that this is her true personality after all.
  • Not Afraid of You Anymore: In the final episode, Daniel Kon corners her in the kids' hideout and attempts to coerce her into giving up the password to his computer by guilt-tripping her that she'll feel responsible if her friends are killed because she won't give it up, and that she'll inevitably give in to him like how her parents gave up their farm to Mantah Corp. Sammy is having none of it and kicks Daniel in the groin before escaping.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Subverted. Her overly enthusiastic cowgirl act is both naturally her and part of why no one suspects her as The Mole until they get evidence of it.
  • Official Couple: She is this with Yaz as of Season 5.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Despite the danger of releasing the Baryonyx, Sammy wants to do it at the expense of their safety for no other reason than it is the right thing to do.
  • Shipper on Deck: Sammy clearly shows her support for Kenji and Brooklynn in becoming a couple. She even starts giving suggestions about their official couple names.

    Ben Pincus

Ben Pincus

Click here to see Ben in Season 3

Voiced By: Sean Giambrone

One of the campers who is sensitive and bookish.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Although he and Darius are about the same age and size, even Darius sees him as someone to be protected.
  • Bag of Holding: His pack seems to have a near-infinite amount of supplies in it, something that other characters lampshade. After his Disney Death, Kenji starts wearing it, though he returns it to Ben at the end of Season 2.
  • Became Their Own Antithesis: In Season 2, he goes from being too timid for his own good to being too gung ho for his own good.
  • Cowardly Sidekick: He never even wanted to come to the camp, but his mother thinks it would do him some good.
  • Character Development: Starts out the series a very nervous individual who depends on others for survival. He braves up at the end of Season 1, though gets thrown off the monorail. After that, after several days living alone, he finally wizens up and starts to stand up for himself, even standing up to Toro.
  • Disney Death: Everyone believes he's a goner when he falls off the monorail, but the final scene of the season reveals he's alive.
  • Face Your Fears: While all the kids went through this, Ben went through a big one as he faced his fears to save the group as a whole. Goes through it a second time in Season 2 after he survives several weeks alone and becomes independent.
  • Fearless Fool: After spending weeks on his own and defeating Toro he gains an incredible amount of confidence, unfortunately, this also ends up with him being very overconfident and weirdly kill-happy.
  • Grew a Spine: First when he puts his foot down to keep Bumpy because he won't abandon her like they were abandoned, and second when he decides to climb on top of the monorail to reroute it and prevent a crash despite the danger outside.
  • Hot-Blooded: After chasing off the Compies in Season 2, he gets very eager to do violent and reckless things, like taking on Toro with a spear, threatening Hap with a cattle prod, and even suggesting that they feed Mitch and Tiff to the Mosasaurus.
  • I Choose to Stay: He initially decides to stay on the island after realizing how much he has changed from it, however he changes his mind.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Implied. He's too afraid to move when Yaz is threatened by Toro, and she has to be saved by Darius, something that clearly upsets him. Later when they're on the monorail and Pteranodons attack, he decides to go out to reroute the train despite the clear danger when he sees Darius discount him for the job. Sadly, it gets him thrown off the monorail and nearly killed. He becomes badass in Season 2 though.
  • Jerkass Ball: In Season 3, he's noticeably abrasive and aloof to the other campers, particularly Kenji, on occasion. As the reasons behind his behavior: not wanting to leave Bumpy, believing that the group's friendship will be too difficult to maintain once they return to their separate lives, and wanting to stay on the island is revealed, he starts letting go off the ball once solutions are found one-by-one.
  • Mistaken for Romance: He mistakenly comes to the conclusion that Yaz is flirting with him by spending so much time with the former when she's really trying to give Kenji and Brooklynn space so their relationship can develop. Ben later "lets her down gently" as he claims to still be in the middle of finding himself. Yaz is taken completely aback.
  • Nervous Wreck: He's afraid of germs, animals, the outdoors, the indoors, and whipped cream. He spends most of his time terrified out of his mind even before he has a reason to be.
  • Never My Fault: In Season 3, he defends himself for visiting Bumpy's herd over returning to the base by pointing out Kenji could have continued packing without him. While he has a point there, that doesn't excuse the fact that he didn't bother to tell anyone where he was going, forcing Kenji and Yaz to waste time looking for him. Something Yaz even points out.
  • Papa Wolf: Despite being afraid of nearly everything, he immediately bonds with Bumpy and sticks up for her even against the rest of the group.
  • Properly Paranoid: He overprepares for everything and assumes the worst, taking time to learn the evacuation plan before they even arrive and assuming danger around every corner. This being Jurassic Park, he's usually right.
  • Pyromaniac: Seems to have developed into one during his time alone. In Season 3, he offers explosives as a solution several times when the group is dealing with the Scorpios rex.
  • Remember When You Blew Up a Sun?: Upon reuniting with the other campers in Season 2, he likes to bring up defeating Toro a lot. In Season 3, he's apparently brought it up enough times that the other campers are sick of it.
  • Shipper on Deck: In Season 5, Ben helps Yaz in confessing her romantic feeings for Sammy by becoming her wingman. When the two girls have their Big Damn Kiss, he gleefully and tearfully whispers "yes!". He also shows support for Kenji and Brooklynn in being a couple.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Took a HUGE level. In Season 2, he's not the nervous wreck he once was and even finds it in himself to stand up to Toro with nothing but a handcrafted spear. It's hard not to be amazed about how resourceful he's gotten since his development alone.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Downplayed. In Season 2, he becomes much more aggressive and Hot-Blooded, willing to electrocute Hap and leave him tied up to the dinosaurs, and suggesting the campers feed Hap and Tiffany to the Mosasaurus. However, most of it is just a "tough guy" act that he's put up for appearance's sake.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: His reaction when the biome he enters in Season 4 is filled with Pteranodons.

Allies

    Bumpy

Bumpy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bumpy.png
Click here to see her as an adolescent

A female Ankylosaurus who imprints on Ben. She got her name from a stumpy horn. She also eventually becomes a loyal member of the Campers.

  • Action Pet: Becomes just this in Season 2, battling other dangerous dinosaurs to protect Ben and the other campers.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: Downplayed, but she displays some mildly puppy-like body language at a couple of points, and is also abnormally friendly and affectionate compared to the other dinosaurs.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Bumpy has bright blue scales rather than the brown or grays seen on the other Ankylosaurus.
  • A Boy and His X: A Boy (Ben) and his Ankylosaurus (Bumpy).
  • Artistic License – Paleontology: See the article on Ankylosaurus here
  • Badass Adorable: Post her growth, she's a formidable ally to the campers virtue of being a goddamn Ankylosaurus. And she still hasn't lost the adorableness she had as a baby.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Bumpy is primarily blue in color and she is a compassionate Ankylosaurus who helps the campers in surviving Isla Nublar.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Her adorableness captures Ben's heart despite his germophobia.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: By the end of the series she is living happily on Mantah Corp Island, sparing her from getting captured by InGen (and the volcano).
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: In Season 1, she is able to tell when the Indominus rex is nearby by bleating in a panic to warn the campers.
  • Happily Adopted: In Season 3, she gets adopted by a local Ankylosaurus herd and is assimilated into their family. She still loves Ben, but she has a new family now.
  • Heroic Willpower: In Season 5, she resists her control chip when the henchman tries to force her to hurt Ben.
  • The Load: Zigzagged. On one hand, she's a baby, and a loud one, and the campers sometimes literally have to carry her because she can't move as fast as the others. On the other hand, she's the first to note danger, even if the other campers don't pay attention to her. Subverted in full once she's fully grown.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: To Ben, thanks to imprinting on him when she hatched. She even heads off to find him after he's separated from the group.
  • Primary-Color Champion: Bumpy's osteoderms are blue while her underside is yellow.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: As a calf, she's absolutely adorable due to her cute appearance and puppy-like personality. Even as a sub-adult, she's not far behind.
  • Signature Team Transport: Aside from being a Team Pet, once she is grown she often doubles as this by allowing Ben and the campers to ride her.
  • Team Pet: Becomes one once they find her again in the wild.
  • Tough Armored Dinosaur: Averted. Instead of being a badass living tank, like most ankylosaurs in fiction (and indeed, most in the Jurassic Park franchise), she's a Ridiculously Cute Critter. She immediately becomes this by Season 2, being almost fully grown within several weeks, and is now big enough to take on Toro.
  • Undying Loyalty: She never fails to stand by Ben when he needs her. In Season 4, Ben gloomily says she's probably forgotten all about him by now. A cut to Isla Nublar shows her calling out mournfully to the protagonists' camp from Season 3, before plopping down to sleep next to it the way she used to nap near Ben. When she's chipped and ordered to attack Ben in Season 5, she outright refuses, causing the chip to malfunction.
  • Uniformity Exception: Stands out from the other ankylosaurs by virtue of not just her size, personality, and age, but her asymmetrical horns. When she grows up fully, her most notable distinction is her green and yellow scales.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: As of Season 4 it's unknown what her final fate is, per Word of God she did not perish in Mt. Sibo's eruption but thus far whether she was among the rescued dinosaurs and broke free or was sold in the auction or was somehow smuggled off the island before that event is up in the air.
    • Season 5 confirmed that Bumpy was among the Isla Nublar dinosaurs that were captured by Mantah Corp and she is still thriving on the island.
