The Galaxy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c9fa4ac6_8d78_4bd3_8621_7488d67205c0.jpeg
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

"Oh! Oh! Oh! Maybe this battle wasn't on Remnant! Maybe it was a long, long time ago, on a planet far, far away, with aliens and technology beyond anything we have!"
Nora Valkyrie

Outside of Remnant, there exists a massive, sprawling galaxy made up of countless planets and alien species of all sizes and shapes (as well as many Human Alien variants). For the most part, the galaxy seems to be in a recurring state of war between the opposing Force ideologies of the Jedi and Sith.

    open/close all folders
    The Galaxy as a whole
  • Casual Interstellar Travel: In the galaxy, traveling to other star systems is as simple as punching in the coordinates to a starship's hyperdrive computer.
  • Faster-Than-Light Travel: Their ships can use hyperspace to go FTL.
  • Forever War: The conflict between the Jedi and Sith is framed like one. When Nihilus' spirit woke up three hundred years after his original death, the Jedi and Sith were still going at it with each other.
  • Human Aliens: One of the most widespread species in the galaxy are baseline humans, which look exactly like the humans on Remnant save for one difference. Unlike Remnant's humans, baseline humans all have a natural connection to the Force.
  • Ray Gun: The standard weapon for the inhabitants of the galaxy are laser guns called blasters.

The Jedi Order

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6b53626c9cc85db243f4871275d3d953.png

An ancient order of Force-users who use the Light Side of the Force and have sworn to protect the galaxy from those who would do it harm.

  • Arch-Enemy: To the Sith.
  • Back from the Brink: Their order was driven to near-extinction after Darth Nihilus absorbed most of their members and Darth Traya killed off the few Jedi Masters that escaped Nihilus's genocide. Thanks to the efforts of Meetra Surik, the Jedi Order was rebuilt and is restored to full fighting strength three centuries later.
  • Hero of Another Story: They've been protecting the galaxy from the Sith and various other threats for thousands of years.
  • Laser Blade: The weapon of choice for all Jedi is the lightsaber.
  • Vow of Celibacy: Like in canon, the Jedi were forbidden from having families or forming close attachments with others. It's noted in the epilogue that this rule has since been relaxed with Jedi parents even being allowed to raise their children within the Order, although it's still frowned upon to have attachments that are deemed "too strong".

    Jedi Council
The governing body of the Jedi Order. Revan petitioned for them to get the Jedi Order involved in the Mandalorian Wars.
  • The Ghost: They make no appearances in the story aside from Revan mentioning them once in a flashback.
  • Head-in-the-Sand Management: They were unwilling to get the Jedi involved during the Mandalorian Wars, much to the frustration of Revan.
  • Posthumous Character: The epigraph for "Chaos" mentions how Kreia executed the remnants of the Jedi Council.

    Alek

Alek

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alek_6.png

Species: Human

Debut: Dreams

"Tell me ███████, what do you think of the plains of Dantooine?"

A Jedi who Nihilus trained alongside. He appears during a flashback in "Dreams", where he challenges Nihilus to a friendly sparring match on the planet Dantooine.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: It's unclear if he even knew Nihilus in canon, whereas here they were fellow Jedi learners.
  • The Cameo: Appears once during a flashback where he spars with a younger Nihilus.
  • Combat Pragmatist: While sparring with a then-human Nihilus, he takes the other off guard by punching him across the face after parrying one of his blows and later resorts to using the Force to fling pebbles at him while they're in a Blade Lock.
  • Evil Is Bigger: He's taller than Jaune, who himself is rather tall at 6'1. This is likely an indicator of Alek's eventual fall to the Dark Side.
  • Friendly Rival: With a younger Nihilus back when they both were Revan's students at the Jedi academy on Dantooine. He enjoys sparring with Nihilus and testing out his skills against him.
  • Impossibly Cool Clothes: His outfit is certainly unique for a Jedi. It consists of a form-fitting black uniform with orange bracers, boots, and pauldrons layered over it. In addition, the outfit has a long strip of orange fabric which acts as a loincloth which is worn over his pants.
  • In a Single Bound: While sparring with a younger Nihilus, Alek leaps approximately 30 feet in order to put some distance between him and Nihilus.
  • Laser Blade: Uses a lightsaber while sparring with Nihilus.
  • Magic Knight: As befitting a Jedi, Alek uses both his swordsmanship skills and Force powers in combat.
  • Mind over Matter: Like Nihilus, he can also use Force telekinesis. During their sparring match, he uses the Force to lift up some pebbles and throw them at Nihilus' face when he lets his guard down.
  • The Worf Effect: In Knights of the Old Republic, he was a master of lightsaber combat to the point where he was a better swordsman than even Darth Revan. The flashback in "Dreams" shows that a then-Jedi Nihilus was a better lightsaber duelist than him and Alek is only able to hold his own because he resorted to a dirty trick in the middle of their match.

    The Dreadlocked Man
For more details about him, see his folder under Darth Nihilus.

    Revan

Revan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hooded_revan.png
"While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I would prefer it if you didn't destroy the countryside with your duel."

Species: Human

Debut: Dreams

"Well your wait is now over. Come. The Council will see us now to hear our petition. With luck, they have seen reason and will chose to intervene in this senseless war."

A Jedi who trained Nihilus in the ways of the Force back when Nihilus was still a human. When the Mandalorian Wars broke out, he petitioned the Jedi Council to get involved and, failing that, left the Order and formed the Revanchists.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Revan never met Nihilus in canon. Here, he personally taught Nihilus the ways of the Jedi.
  • The Cameo: He appears once in Jaune's dreams, where he oversees a practice duel between Nihilus and Alek.
  • The Faceless: We never actually see Revan's face since he is wearing a face-concealing hood in the flashback where he appears.
  • In the Hood: In a flashback, he's shown wearing brown robes with a hood that covers his face.
  • The Mentor: To Nihilus during his time as a Jedi.
  • Minor Major Character: He's Nihilus' original mentor who led the Republic's military during the Mandalorian Wars and later revived the Sith Order. Despite his importance to the setting, he only appears once during a flashback.
  • Noodle Incident: During the Jedi Civil War, he had an encounter with Darth Nihilus after the latter's transformation into a Force Wound. The exact details of this meeting are not known, aside from Nihilus hearing of Revan's quest to find the Star Forge.

    Zez-Kai Ell

Master Zez-Kai Ell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zezkaiell.jpg
A Jedi Master who knew of Meetra Surik's nature as a Force Wound.
    Meetra Surik

Meetra Surik / The Jedi Exile

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c9e41f13adc444a8865afcb9dfdf5a2a.JPG

Species: Human (Force aberration)

Debut: Legends

"Look upon his face, if it will bring you peace, Visas. Then bring his mask to me."

The Jedi who killed Darth Nihilus aboard the Ravager thousands of years ago.
  • Action Girl: She's a skilled warrior who was able to defeat Darth Nihilus.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Darth Nihilus, being the Jedi responsible for sapping his powers, stealing his apprentice, and killing him aboard his own flagship.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Like Nihilus, she is a "wound in the Force" that feeds on the life of everything around her. However, she keeps her humanity and uses her powers to defeat the Sith and save the galaxy.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: She adopts this belief from Kreia, deciding that both the Light and Dark Side are just tools to be used. She takes Nihilus' mask as a trophy for this very reason.
  • The Cameo: She appears in one of Darth Nihilus' flashbacks.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: She succeeded in killing Nihilus, a planet-devouring Eldritch Abomination, at the height of his power.
  • The Exile: She is known as the Jedi Exile since she was excommunicated from the Jedi Order as punishment for following Revan and unleashing the mass shadow generator on Malachor V.
  • Good Counterpart: To Darth Nihilus. Both were Jedi who joined the Revanchists, served as Revan's generals during the Mandalorian Wars, and were transformed by the mass shadow generator into Eldritch Abominations. However, whereas Nihilus joined the Sith and became controlled by his own hunger, Meetra remained loyal to the Jedi and prevented herself from turning into a complete monster. Nihilus himself refers to Meetra as his "antithesis".
  • Humanoid Abomination: Despite appearing like a human woman, she is a walking black hole that drains the Force out of everything around her. The more she kills, the more powerful she became.
  • One Degree of Separation: With Darth Nihilus. Prior to his transformation, Nihilus was basically Revan's Padawan while Meetra served as one of Revan's most trusted generals.
  • Precursor Hero: Was the hero who originally defeated Nihilus and saved the entire galaxy in the process.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: She actually feels pity for Darth Nihilus after killing him, believing him to have just been another Unwitting Pawn of Kreia.
  • Takes One to Kill One: Her nature as a "wound in the Force" similar to Nihilus was ultimately what enabled her to triumph over the Lord of Hunger.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her decision to take the Mask of Darth Nihilus as a trophy to symbolize balance between light and dark rather than leave it to burn on the Ravager. Of course, she had no way of knowing that the mask was being possessed by Nihilus' Force ghost.

    Nariel Pridence (Unmarked Spoilers!)

Nariel Pridence

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nariel_pridence.png
"If you were a little more serious minded, you'd make a fine Jedi."

Species: Human

Debut: Legends

"Not many can claim they battled a Sith and lived. You're in rare company."

A young Jedi Knight who lived during the Galactic Cold War between the Old Republic and the True Sith Empire. She searched for a holocron containing Nihilus' mask with the help of a smuggler named the Voidhound. After finding the holocron and killing her rival Zare, she traveled to the Unknown Regions to hide the mask from the Sith Empire's forces. She was tragically killed mid-journey by the spirit of Darth Nihilus, who had, unbeknownst to her, been residing inside his mask.
  • Action Girl: She's a skilled lightsaber combatant and didn't hesitate to attack Nihilus' ghost on sight.
  • Celibate Heroine: Turns down the Voidhound's flirting because the Jedi Code forbids emotional attachment.
  • Defiant to the End: In her final moments of life, Nariel faces certain death at the hands of Darth Nihilus, a being she knows she has no chance of defeating and had even admitted to being afraid of. Despite this, she doesn't hesitate to swing her lightsaber at Sith ghost and goes down fighting.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Her: Is rather abruptly killed by Darth Nihilus' spirit in the middle of transporting his mask.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Nihilus identifies her as someone who can't be corrupted. It's why he kills her rather than attempt to influence her like he did with his previous victims.
  • Laser Blade: Like all Jedi, she wields a lightsaber in combat. Sadly it doesn't do her much good against a Sith spirit.
  • Ms. Exposition: She plays this role in her single appearance, giving the Voidhound an abridged explanation of who Darth Nihilus is, why he's so feared, and how it relates to their mission to retrieve a holocron.
  • Nerves of Steel: Doesn't show any fear while facing off against an Eldritch Abomination she knows can kill her with minimum effort.
  • Posthumous Character: She was killed by Nihilus' spirit more than three thousand years prior to the main story.
  • Ship Tease: With the Voidhound. Rather than rebuff their flirting, she finds it amusing and tells them that she thinks they would make a fine Jedi.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Is killed in the same flashback where she's introduced.

    Spoiler Characters

Kol Skywalker

A Jedi Master from the Jedi Academy on Ossus. At the end of the story, he senses the Wound in the Force caused by Darth Nihilus' revival and sets out to locate the source.

  • Hero of Another Story: As the leader of the Jedi High Council and a member of the legendary Skywalker family, Kol is the Big Good to both the Jedi and galaxy as a whole. While the heroes on Remnant were busy dealing with Nihilus and Salem, Kol has been watching over the entire galaxy.

Wolf Sazen

A Jedi Master from the Jedi Academy on Ossus and the former apprentice of Kol Skywalker.

Cade Skywalker

The fourteen-year-old son of Kol Skywalker.

Debut: Malachor (quote)

A military engineer who served the Galactic Republic during the Mandalorian Wars and the inventor of the mass shadow generator.

  • All There in the Manual: One of his quotes is used as the epigraph for "Malachor".
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's the engineer responsible for designing and constructing the mass shadow generator.
  • It's All My Fault: He takes full responsibility for the rise of Darth Nihilus since he created the mass shadow generator and believes that Meetra Surik shouldn't have been blamed since, in his words, "The situation forced [her] hand, anger forced mine."

    Visas Marr

Visas Marr

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e6d4e10125c5f72550c0a2cbac493eb5.jpg

Darth Nihilus' former apprentice. She eventually betrayed him and helped the Exile defeat him.
  • The Apprentice: To Darth Nihilus for a time.
  • Battle Butler: Acts as this for Meetra, telling her that she is her new master and fighting by her side.
  • The Cameo: Appears briefly alongside Meetra Surik during a flashback showing Nihilus' death.
  • High-Heel–Face Turn: She used to be Nihilus' apprentice before defecting to the Exile and helping them defeat him.
  • Minor Major Character: She's Darth Nihilus' former Sith apprentice who ultimately betrayed him and helped Meetra Surik kill him. However, she doesn't appear beyond a single brief cameo and Nihilus doesn't even seem to think about her.

    Mandalore

Mandalore the Preserver

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/canderous_ordo_mandalore.png

Species: Human (Mandalorian)

Debut: Legends

"What the Hell are you doing up there! We need to get off this ship. Now!"

The leader of the Mandalorians following the end of the Mandalorian Wars. He accompanied Meetra Surik and Visas Marr aboard the Ravager, where they fought Darth Nihius and seemingly killed him.
  • Badass Normal: He isn't Force-sensitive, yet he was one of the three people who managed to kill Darth Nihilus.
  • The Cameo: Appears once during a flashback in "Legends".
  • Minor Major Character: He's the leader of the Mandalorians and was one of the three people who killed Darth Nihilus' original body. However, he only speaks once during a flashback.

    The Voidhound

The Voidhound

Species: Unknown

Debut: Legends

A smuggler who was active during the Galactic Cold War. They were enlisted by a Jedi named Nariel to help her locate the holocron of Darth Nihilus.
  • Ambiguous Gender: It's never made clear what gender they are. Nihilus has difficulty determining whether their voice sounds like a man or a woman.
  • Badass Normal: They're among the very few non-Force sensitives to have fought a Sith (albeit with a Jedi helping him) and lived to tell the tale.
  • The Cameo: Briefly appears in a flashback where they parts ways with Nariel after helping her acquire Nihilus' mask.
  • The Casanova: Flirts with Nariel, who turns down their advances.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: In the Voidhound's case, Nariel turns down their advances due to being a Celibate Hero but parts on good terms with them. They never gets another chance to pursue a relationship with her as she is killed not long after by Nihilus.
  • Featureless Protagonist: Their appearance, species, and even gender are left vague for the reader to imagine them however they want.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: It's never made clear what the Voidhound looks like in person, which references how they were a Featureless Protagonist in The Old Republic.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Unlike their Jedi ally, the Voidhound is a more or less a normal human with no Force-sensitivity. Despite this, it's mentioned that they fought a Sith and won. Granted they had a Jedi Knight helping them out, but it's still a very impressive feat. The reader never actually gets any details about that specific fight and we're only introduced to them mere moments after said fight has ended.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: They are introduced only as "the Voidhound".
  • Venturous Smuggler: A smuggler who goes on adventures and helps a Jedi recover a dangerous Sith artifact.
  • The Voice: We only hear their voice since the scene where the Voidhound appears is shown from Nihilus' perspective, who was trapped inside his mask and could only use the Force to visually see Force-users.

The Sith Order

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sith_symbol.png
An intergalactic cult of Force-users who draw power from the Dark Side of the Force. They are the Jedi Order's greatest enemies and the two factions have clashed repeatedly as part of the Sith's ongoing attempts to conquer the galaxy.
  • Black Magic: The Sith have an entire practice called Sith magic which involves using the Dark Side in Force rituals that involve things like necromancy, twisting life via manipulation of midi-chlorians, and summoning evil Sith spirits. This comes at the cost of further corrupting the user to the Dark Side.
  • The Constant: No matter the era, the Sith will always be there either plotting to destroy the Jedi or take over the galaxy.
  • Dark Is Evil: They predominately dress in black clothing, draw power from The Dark Side, and even use the similarly-sounding "Darth" as a Fantastic Honorific.
  • Dark Lord: They're an entire organization made up of various Dark Lords of the Sith.
  • The Empire: They've controlled two in the forms of the Sith Empire and the Galactic Empire.
  • Galactic Conqueror: They're ultimate goal is total domination of the galaxy.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: They're an ancient intergalactic cult that Darth Nihilus belongs to, and are bent on galactic domination. However, the Sith Order of the present day have nothing to do with the plot and are completely in the dark about Nihilus' survival or the existence of Remnant. The epilogue subverts this after Nihilus creates a Wound in the Force which draws the One Sith to Remnant like bees to honey.
  • Those Were Only Their Scouts: As terrifyingly powerful as Darth Nihilus is, he is ultimately just a single Sith Lord stranded on a backwater world and cut off from the rest of his order. As of the epilogue, the One Sith are now aware of Nihilus' presence on Remnant and have dispatched an entire cohort of Sith warriors with Darth Krayt at the helm.

Ancient Sith Lords

    In General
  • The Ghost: All of them are only briefly mentioned in the story.
  • Posthumous Character: Being even older than Nihilus, they've all naturally been dead for thousands of years.
  • Predecessor Villain: All of them were at one point the head honchos of the Sith and each of them predate even Nihilus in age.

    Marka Ragnos

Marka Ragnos

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/markaragnosspirit.jpg

Species: Sith

Debut: Legends (mentioned)

An ancient Sith Lord whose teachings were studied by Nihilus.
  • The Dark Arts: His archived teachings are considered forbidden texts for most of the Sith and even a being such as Nihilus described them as vile. It's worth noting that Nihilus only used Ragnos's Force-enhancing technique in a moment of total desperation after he had already exhausted every other option.
  • Evil Sorcerer: A master of ancient Sith magic whose knowledge of the Dark Side is unparalleled. He invented a Force technique which creates artificial "wounds in the Force". Keep in mind, it took an experimental superweapon devastating an entire planet just to accidentally transform Nihilus into an Eldritch Abomination. Ragnos could do the exact same thing using just his prowess in the Force without having to destroy any planets.
  • Villainous Legacy: While he's been dead for more than five thousand years by the present day, his legacy lives on through his archives on Korriban, which contain all the discoveries he made while experimenting with Sith magic. Nihilus is able to transform Jaune into a Force Wound at the start of the story by using a technique he acquired from Ragnos's archived knowledge.

    Naga Sadow

    Exar Kun

Exar Kun

Debut: Chaos (mentioned)

An ancient Sith Lord.
  • Alchemy Is Magic: Is mentioned to be a Sith alchemist.
  • Summoning Ritual: During his life, he had a penchant for summoning the spirits of ancient Sith Warlords in order to learn from them and gain their knowledge of the Dark Side.

Sith Triumvirate

    In General
A trio of Sith Lords who rose to power in the aftermath of the Mandalorian Wars.

    Darth Traya

Darth Traya / Kreia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darth_traya.png
"Heal you? I cannot and would not provide such comfort. What I can provide is knowledge, teachings in the old ways to appease your hunger, hone it into a fine blade."

Species: Human

Debut: Gnawing

"It is such a curious thing, isn't it? To have such power, but to be chained by it."

A mysterious woman who taught Nihilus the ways of the Sith and founded the Sith Triumvirate.
  • Academy of Evil: After recruiting Nihilus, she unveils her plan to create a Sith academy.
  • Black Cloak: Wears silky black robes when she introduces herself to Nihilus during the flashback in "Gnawing".
  • Evil Cripple: Despite being blind, she's no less dangerous for it and is a powerful Sith Lord who mentored Darth Nihilus.
  • Evil Mentor: Was initially this to Nihilus and Sion. By the time of Nihilus' death, she had also become this to Meetra Surik.
  • Evil Old Folks: Nihilus' Sith master has the appearance of a frail, elderly woman.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Is responsible for teaching Nihilus the ways of the Sith and set him on the path of the Dark Side.
  • Minor Major Character: She only has a single appearance during one of Jaune's dreams of Nihilus' past. Despite this, she is the one who trained Nihilus in the Dark Side and taught him how to properly weaponize his Force draining ability to devour entire planets. She also founded and led the Sith Triumvirate, which Nihilus was a member of.
  • Nay-Theist: Like her Legends counterpart, she knows the Force exists, but despises it and is of the opinion that God Is Evil. In the flashback where she first met Nihilus, Traya refers to the Force as a "celestial parasite" and blames it for all of the galaxy's problems, such as the Jedi and Sith's Forever War and Nihilus' transformation into a Force Wound.
  • Old Master: An elderly woman who trained Nihilus in the Dark Side.
  • The Philosopher: If her quotes being used in the epigraphs are anything to go by, Kreia is a very philosophical deep thinker.
  • Prophet Eyes: Her eyes are described by Jaune as milky white and glazed over.
  • Villain Has a Point: In-Universe. After killing Nihilus, Meetra concedes that Kreia's philosophies about Balance Between Good and Evil was right and even adopts this belief herself.
  • Villainous Legacy: While she's been dead for thousands of years, her legacy lives on through her apprentice Darth Nihilus. Nihilus, in turn, passes her teachings onto Jaune, who starts espousing Traya's philosophies to his friends after his fall to the Dark Side.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Her hair is white from old age and she is a manipulative Sith Lord who taught Nihilus.

    Darth Sion

Darth Sion

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darth_sion.png

Species: Human

Debut: Gnawing

A heavily-scarred Sith Lord who trained as Darth Traya's apprentice alongside Nihilus.
  • The Apprentice: To Darth Traya.
  • Body Horror: He has so many scars and cracks on his body that he resembles a walking corpse.
  • The Cameo: Appears once during a flashback showing Nihilus' fist meeting with Traya.
  • Co-Dragons: Was one of Darth Traya's apprentices alongside Nihilus.
  • Covered with Scars: Lampshaded by Jaune, who wonders how he can possibly walk around with so many scars without living in constant pain.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars
  • Healing Factor: He's able to use a Dark Side version of Force healing called Dark Healing.
  • Jerkass: During the flashback where he first meets Nihilus, he's shown to take a smug satisfaction in watching the former Jedi writhe around in pain.
  • Satellite Character: Most of his characterization here comes from his connection with Traya as her apprentice alongside Nihilus.
  • Smug Smiler: He gives a smug smirk while watching a recently-transformed Nihilus fall forward in pain and start coughing uncontrollably from the latter's sickly condition.
  • The Voiceless: The one chapter where Sion makes a full appearance, he's never heard talking.

Others

    Zare

Vaverone Zare

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vaverone_zare_9.png

  • Villain of Another Story: She's the main villain of Nariel's story and was the final obstacle Nariel faced before recovering the Mask of Nihilus.

    Darth Vader

Darth Vader

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darth_vader_sw.png

Debut: Legends (mentioned)

A Sith Lord active during the time of the Galactic Empire.

  • The Ghost: Never appears directly and is only mentioned, having died over a century before the main events of the story began.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Alpha hid the Mask of Darth Nihilus on Remnant to keep it from falling into Vader's hands.
  • Noodle Incident: He had an encounter with Alpha in the past. While details are vague, he left enough of an impression on Alpha for him to decide that letting Vader find the Mask of Darth Nihilus would be disastrous for the whole galaxy.
  • The Scapegoat: Based on Darth Krayt's recollections, it's implied that most of the galaxy believes Vader was responsible for the destruction of Alderaan. In reality, it was Tarkin who destroyed the planet while Vader was an Accomplice by Inaction at best.

    Spoiler Character

Darth Krayt

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darthkrayteatlas.jpg

Species: Human

Debut: Epilogue

"The galaxy is on the precipice of a great change, decades of our machinations are coming to bear fruit. We cannot allow this new threat to challenge my vision. I am the only one who can bring true unification and order to the galaxy. I will endure no other rivals. Whoever, or whatever caused this Wound, will either bend to my will, or it will break."

The leader of the One Sith and the strongest living Sith Lord in the galaxy. While Nihilus has been slumbering on Remnant, Krayt has spent decades slowly manipulating the Galactic Alliance and Fel Empire into an all-out war. At the end of the story, he departs for the Unknown Regions after sensing Nihilus' presence on Remnant.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: A quote attributed to him is used as the epigraph for "Chapter 17: Legends". The epilogue sets him up as the next Big Bad for the story's sequel.
  • Dark Lord on Life Support: Is this as per Legends. His body is aging away while being consumed by a Vong parasite from the inside. Outside of Darth Wyyrlok, none of the other Sith are aware of this and he wants to keep it that way.
  • Evil Learns of Outside Context: The discovery of another darksider (Darth Nihilus) strong enough to make a severe Wound in the Force through their power alone is enough for Krayt to hastily alter his plans for the Ossus Project and abruptly leave Korriban to search the Unknown Regions for the source of this power.
  • Evil Versus Evil: While he doesn't know that Darth Nihilus is the Force Wound that he sensed, Krayt knows that the Wound was caused by a powerful darksider and seeks to destroy them before they can become a potential rival to his own power.
  • Feel No Pain: Downplayed. He isn't immune to pain, but he has become accustomed to it over the course of his long life. When the Force Wound created by Nihilus is felt throughout the galaxy, Krayt is the only Sith on Korriban who isn't immediately overwhelmed. In contrast to every other Sith who collapses to the ground screaming in pain, Krayt merely drops to a knee while clutching his chest.
  • Join or Die: His plan to deal with Nihilus if he does find him is to either force him to bend to his will or be destroyed as a potential rival.
  • Parasitic Horror: He has a Yuuzhan Vong parasite implanted inside him which has slowly been eating away at him from the inside. While he has managed to fight off the parasite for many years, the infection is starting to catch up to him and is slowly crippling his already old body.
  • Playing Both Sides: He mentions in the epilogue that his plan for galactic domination involves manipulating the Galactic Alliance and the Fel Empire into waging war against each other.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Like his Legends counterpart, he has been around for a long time, having lived during the Galactic Civil War and Yuuzhan Vong War.
  • Schrödinger's Canon:
    • In the old Star Wars Legends continuity, Darth Krayt was one of the few Jedi survivors of Order 66. He fell to the Dark Side after traveling to Korriban and learning the ways of the Sith from the spirit of the Dark Lady XoXaan. Following the deaths of Palpatine and Darth Vader, Krayt formed his own faction of the Sith Order called the One Sith. More than 130 years after the fall of the Galactic Empire, Krayt ruled the galaxy after seizing control of the Fel Empire through a violent coup.
    • Krayt continually searched for ways to become immortal due to being slowly consumed from the inside by his biological implants, which were forcibly inserted into him by the Yuuzhan Vong during the time he spent as their prisoner. As part of his efforts to obtain immortality, he sought guidance from the spirits of several ancient Sith Lords (including Nihilus).
  • Villain of Another Story: He's the current Dark Lord of the Sith who's been manipulating the galaxy's superpowers from behind the scenes to incite a massive war with plans to eventually take over the galaxy for himself. However, he plays no role in the main story aside from one of his quotes being used as the epigraph for Chapter 17. This changes in the epilogue once he senses Nihilus' presence on Remnant and decides to go pay a visit.
  • Walking Spoiler: His appearance at the end of the epilogue reveals the exact time period the story is set in relation to the greater Star Wars galaxy and sets him up as the next major Big Bad after Darth Nihilus.

    Spoiler Characters

The One Sith

The present-day iteration of the Sith Order led by Darth Krayt.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: While making preparations to leave for the Unknown Regions, Krayt divides his forces in half. He takes Nihl, Ruyn, Talon, and a "cohort" of Sith with him to search for the Force Wound caused by Nihilus while leaving Wyyrlok and Maladi behind to continue running his order and making sure that his plans for Ossus are carried through. Wyrrlok even questions whether it's wise for Krayt to split their forces like this.
  • The Worf Effect: In order to show just how powerful Darth Nihilus truly was, the Force Wound he created on Remnant was strong enough to cause nearly every Sith to suddenly collapse to the ground screaming in pain.

Darth Wyyrlok

  • The Dragon: He is Krayt's confidante, his most trusted lieutenant, and is the one entrusted to lead the One Sith until Krayt returns from the Unknown Regions.
  • Number Two: Is Darth Krayt's regent and his second-in-command.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's the only one who knows about Krayt's sickly condition.

Darth Nihl

  • Co-Dragons: With Darth Wyyrlok. Although Wyyrlok is clearly the higher-ranked of the duo and is officially recognized as Krayt's regent, Nihl is one of Krayt's strongest followers and the one who Krayt assigns as second-in-command of the Sith cohort that is to accompany him into the Unknown Regions.

Darth Maladi

Species: Devaronian

A female Devaronian who serves as the One Sith's liaison with the Fel Empire.

Darth Ruyn

  • Ascended Extra: In Legacy, he only appears in one scene where he's killed by his apprentice Talon as part of Krayt's test of loyalty. Here, he is explicitly mentioned to be amongst the Sith that are to accompany Krayt to Remnant, indicating that he has a bigger role to play.
  • Evil Mentor: To his apprentice Talon.

Talon

The Galactic Fringe (ALL SPOILERS UNMARKED!)

The seedy underbelly of galactic society where criminals, pirates, smugglers, bounty hunters, and the like operate outside the authority of galactic governments.

Crew of the Mother of Invention

    In General
A squad of droids that were active during the Age of the Empire and went on many adventures throughout the galaxy. At one point, they were hired by the pirate Sando to help her crew track down the Mask of Nihilus on the planet Volik.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Instead of being AI fragments like in Red vs Blue, they're just Star Wars droids with distinct personalities.
  • Adapted Out: Gamma, Epsilon, Eta, Theta, Iota, and Sigma are all not part of this version of Project Freelancer's AI units.
  • Aliens Are Bastards: With the exception of Delta, they are incredibly callous towards the natives of Remnant and have no issue dumping the Mask of Nihilus onto the planet despite knowing the artifact contains a homicidal ghost.
  • Anti-Hero Team: They're a bunch of mercenaries who work in the fringes of galactic society, show a general apathy to life, and have no qualms hiring themselves out to known criminals.
  • Artificial Intelligence: They're all droids with human-like intelligence and all think for themselves.
  • The Blank: Since they're all droids, their visors are their faces.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: While their act of dropping Nihilus' mask into Remnant is responsible for causing the entire plot to happen, they treat the whole affair as merely one of the many adventures they've had while gallivanting around the galaxy.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Alpha is blue, Beta is black, Delta is green, and Omega is dark grey.
  • Cool Starship: They own a starship called the Mother of Invention.
  • Flanderization: All four have their most notable aspects of their characters from Red vs. Blue exaggerated to the point where it's almost their sole personality trait. Church is a snarky jerkass, Tex is an Action Girl, Delta is The Spock, and Omega is the Laughably Evil Token Evil Teammate.
  • Gratuitous Greek: They're all named after letters in the Greek alphabet.
  • Hero of Another Story: They're a team of droid spacers with unique personalities and their encounter with Nihilus' mask is treated by them as just another one of their many adventures.
  • Hired Guns: In "Legends", they're hired by Sando to help her locate the Mask of Nihilus and fend off the Apex Society.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Church mentions how they're all going to erase their memories of their encounter with Nihilus after marooning him on Remnant.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: For the most part, they're indistinguishable from humans and are able to feel emotions like sarcasm, disgust, and fear.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Despite only appearing during a flashback for one chapter, they are responsible for Nihilus' presence on Remnant.
  • The Squad: They form one with Alpha as a mix of The Leader and The Face, Beta as The Squadette, Delta as The Smart Guy, and Omega as the Big Guy lugging around a rocket launcher.
  • Theme Naming: Their names are all based on letters from the Greek alphabet.
  • Unlikely Hero: A small team of no-name droids that are responsible for saving the galaxy by stranding Darth Nihilus on Remnant.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Their act of dumping the Mask of Nihilus into Remnant's atmosphere is pretty much responsible for everything that happens in the story.

    Alpha

Alpha / "Church"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b3d46844_a434_4e20_9569_c3598ba2be5c.png

Species: Droid

Debut: Legends

"See? Just a bunch of low-tech natives. That mask isn't getting off world for a long time. Now prepare for atmospheric drop Delta."

A snarky but charismatic droid. He's the leader.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While his canon counterpart certainly was no saint, this version has no qualms working for known criminals and shows a callous disregard for organic life to the point where he knowingly endangers an entire planet full of innocent people.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Shows hints of this when he dumps the Mask of Nihilus on Remnant. When Delta asks what happens if one of Remnant's natives find the mask, Church casually responds by saying "Fuck 'em".
  • Deadpan Snarker: Wouldn't be Church if he wasn't a constant snarker.
  • The Face: He's the most social and charismatic of his team (Beta is too abrasive, Delta is too much of a Straw Vulcan, and Omega is too evil). Aside from being leader, Alpha is also the one who speaks to outside parties on their behalf and acts as a representative for the whole team.
  • Genre Savvy: When Beta asks why they don't just leave the mask where they found it on Volik, he explains that since both Sando's pirates and Eislo's cultists were able to locate the mask, it's likely that other parties are also aware of the mask's location and it's only matter of time before one of those parties make their way to Volik.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: For all his snarkiness and jerkass tendencies, he ultimately cares about the galaxy as a whole. When he realizes just how dangerous the Mask of Nihilus truly is, he immediately prioritizes making sure that it never ends up in Vader's hands.
  • Karma Houdini: He never faces any comeuppance for nearly dooming Remnant by leaving the Mask of Nihilus on the planet.
  • The Leader: Of his team.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The whole mess with Nihilus possessing Jaune started because of Alpha's decision to dump the Mask of Nihilus onto Remnant.
  • Noodle Incident: Encountered Darth Vader sometime before finding the Mask of Nihilus.
  • Pragmatic Hero: He's perfectly willing to screw over the inhabitants of a primitive planet by marooning Nihilus' mask there if it means keeping the rest of the galaxy safe.

    Beta

Beta / "Tex"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Tex2_4765.jpg
"Never tell me the odds!"

Species: Droid

Debut: Legends

"You should listen to Beta, Sando. She may be a crazy bitch, but you know how fucking lethal she is."
Alpha

Alpha's second-in-command. She's the badass.
  • Adaptational Wimp: In canon, she was a One-Woman Army with Super-Strength and invisibility, and the only people who could even hope match her in combat were other Super Soldiers. Here, she doesn't seem to possess any of her canon self's superhuman abilities and a handful of armed thugs are able to pose a significant challenge for her.
  • Call a Human a "Meatbag": She refers to Sando, a Rodian, as a meatbag.
  • Guns Akimbo: Dual-wields a pair of pistols during her team's standoff with Sando's crew and the Apex Society.
  • The Lancer: To Church.
  • Number Two: Is stated to be Alpha's second-in-command.
  • Orphaned Etymology: In canon, she's called "Tex" because it's short for Agent Texas, which was her designation in Project Freelancer. This version still goes by that nickname among her squadmates despite the fact that the state of Texas (as well as Earth in general) doesn't exist in the Star Wars galaxy.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: Is one to Church. While talking to him, she sarcastically calls him "boss".
  • The Smurfette Principle: Is the only droid that identifies as female in an otherwise all male team.
  • The Squadette: She's the lone female in her squad and acts as their resident Action Girl.
  • When She Smiles: The narration describes Tex as smiling (despite her lack of a face) when Church tells her that she can shoot Omega if he suggests any more Stupid Evil ideas.

    Delta

Delta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rvb_delta.png

Species: Droid

Debut: Legends

"I calculate a 37.20% chance that we will make it out of this situation unharmed."

A member of Alpha's team. He's the smart one.
  • Ludicrous Precision: Is able to calculate the percentage probabilities for Alpha's decisions down to the lower decimals.
  • In-Series Nickname: Church addresses him using the nickname "D".
  • The Smart One: Is very analytical and relies on logic-based decisions.
  • The Spock: Like in canon, Delta is the most logic-driven and sensible of the group.
  • Token Good Teammate: Unlike the others who dismissed the people of Remnant as collateral damage, Delta showed concern for the possibility that Nihilus' mask could cause serious damage to their civilization.

    Omega

Omega

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rvb_omega.png

Species: Droid

Debut: Legends

"Oh ho ho. Looks like we have ourselves a Tatooine standoff! How absolutely delicious muahahaha."

A member of Alpha's team. He's the evil one.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Doesn't have the ability to take over a soldier's body through their radios like he does in canon.
  • The Big Guy: His role on Church's team.
  • Evil Is Hammy: He's evil, he knows it, and he loves to ham it up.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: His teammates don't seem to be all that fond of him. Alpha treats him like a jerk and tells him to "can it" whenever he voices his opinion. Beta has a When She Smiles moment when told she can shoot Omega if he says something stupid. While making team decisions, Omega's vote is shown to be discarded and ignored by the others.
Alpha: Then we're all in agreement.
Omega: I didn't agree to anything!
Alpha: Everyone who matters is in agreement.
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath: His evilness and nature as a Token Evil Teammate is entirely Played for Laughs because of just how hammy and corny he sounds when he talks.
  • Large Ham: Tends to be very hammy and overdramatic in his speech.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Is the Token Evil Teammate of his squad. After seeing the Mask of Nihilus summon Nihilus' ghost and kill every organic in its presence, Omega suggested using the mask as a weapon.

Criminal Organizations

    Wavelength Gale

Wavelength Gale

Debut: Legends

A smuggler gang based on the planet Volik who came into possession of Nihilus' mask after looting the remains of Nariel's freighter. They intended to auction off the mask, but never got the chance to as their hideout was raided by the Republic's Navy not long after. The entire gang perished while trying to run the Republic's blockade.
  • Adaptation Expansion: In The Unknown Regions sourcebook for Star Wars d20, little information is provided about the Wavelength Gale other than that they were a smuggler group active around the time of Darth Nihilus, had an abandoned base on the planet Volik, and came into possession of the Mask of Darth Nihilus through unknown means. Here, their backstory is heavily expanded upon and we're shown how they found Darth Nihilus' mask as well as what ultimately became of the gang.
  • I Die Free: When cornered by the Republic Navy, they decided to take their chances with trying to run the blockade rather than be imprisoned.
  • Muggles: Not a single one of them possessed a strong connection to the Force. This actually saved their lives since Nihilus' mask is awoken by the presence of Force-sensitives, so their lack of midi-chlorians kept them from being killed.
  • Posthumous Character: They all perished during the time of the Old Republic over three thousand years ago.
  • Running the Blockade: How they met their end. When the Republic's military blockaded Volik, all the smugglers tried to run the blockade and were wiped out.
  • Salvage Pirates: Based on the flashbacks, they also make money by robbing and scavenging damaged ships they come across in space.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: They only appear once, are hardly given any focus, and are off-handedly killed off shortly after their introduction. However, they're the ones who looted Nihilus' mask from Nariel's ship and brought the mask to Volik, where it would sit in storage alone for thousands of years.
  • Spice of Life: Aside from stolen goods, the smugglers also transports spice. The two smugglers who found Nariel's freighter were originally running spice for the gang until the ship's distress beacon caught their attention.

Sando's Boys

    Sando's Boys in general
A band of pirates led by the Rodian criminal Sando. They sought to acquire the Mask of Nihilus to sell it on the black market. After tracking down the mask's location on the planet Volik, they came into conflict with the Apex Society and Alpha's team over ownership of the Sith artifact.
  • Adaptational Job Change: In the RPG mini-adventure, they were a smuggler group that made their profits by looting abandoned smuggler bases and are described as only engaging in a small bit of piracy. Here, they are depicted as straight-up Space Pirates with no mention of their main job as smugglers.
  • Adaptational Species Change: In the Star Wars d20 RPG, their membership consists mostly of humans with their Rodian leader Sando being the only known exception. Here, the gang consists of various Humanoid Alien races.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: Their gang doesn't discriminate based on species and includes members from various humanoid races.
  • Evil Versus Evil: They are at odds with the Apex Society over ownership of Nihilus' mask.
  • Humanoid Aliens: They're all described as looking humanoid.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Despite being described as pirates, they don't do any pirating in the short time we get to know them and seem to be more akin to looters and scavengers.
  • Posthumous Character: The entire gang was wiped out by Nihilus' ghost more than a century prior to the main story.
  • Satellite Character: What little characterization they possess comes from their role as Sando's lackies.
  • Space Pirates: They're a gang of space pirates who specialize in stealing artifacts.
  • Total Party Kill: They are all wiped out by Nihilus' spirit using his Force Drain.

    Sando

Sando

Species: Rodian

Debut: Legends

"Hmmto. Your sarcastic wit may be cute Alpha, but it's not enough to save you. Now hand over the artifact, and you and your friends get to leave."

A female Rodian who led a gang of pirates during the reign of the Galactic Empire. She has a history with the droid mercenary Alpha and allied with him to find the Mask of Nihilus, only to betray him once the mask was found.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In Star Wars d20, she didn't know who the player characters were. Here, she's worked with Alpha in the past and teamed up with his team to find the mask, only to then betray them.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While she is still a ruthless pirate in the original RPG mini-adventure, Sando didn't know who the players were and only attacked them because she mistook them for rival smugglers. In this version, Sando is established to have actually been a former ally of Alpha's team who helped them locate Nihilus' mask, only to double-cross them so she could claim the artifact for herself.
  • Aliens Speaking English: Subverted. Sando speaks Rodian, her species' language, but shares a Bilingual Dialogue with Alpha and Collan, both of whom are speaking in Basic.
  • Attack on the Heart: She is killed when Nihilus' Force ghost digs his hands right into her heart and drains her of all her life.
  • Black Bead Eyes: Like all Rodians, Sando has large black eyes lacking any pupils. Beta mocks her for this and calls her "bug eyes".
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Alpha isn't surprised when she betrays him and remarked on how "inevitable" it was.
  • Creepy High-Pitched Voice: Sando speaks with a high-pitched, whining voice as is typical of the Rodian species. She's also a murderous, backstabbing pirate.
  • Didn't See That Coming: She is completely blindsighted by the appearance of Darth Nihilus' Force ghost, being amongst those who don't believe in the Force and only wanting the Mask of Nihilus for its value on the black market.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: Is this when compared to Collan Eislo as she just wants to sell Nihilus' mask for money, whereas Eislo wants to use it to become a Sith Lord.
  • Only One Name: She's only ever addressed as "Sando" by the other characters with no surname being mentioned.
  • Noodle Incident: Based on her verbal exchange with Alpha, it's implied that she had previously worked with (and betrayed) Alpha's team prior to their confrontation on Volik.
  • Pirate Girl: She's a female space pirate.
  • Robosexual: She admits that she finds Alpha "cute", much to the disgust of Beta.
  • Tomboyish Name: Sando sounds more like a boy's name and it highlights her nature as a rough pirate.
  • Villain Ball: There is no practical reason for her to betray Alpha given that he had been hired by her and was already intending to hand the mask over to her. All this serves to do is establish her role as the villain of Alpha's story.
  • Villain of Another Story: While we only see her once before she dies, she's evidently an experienced pirate and her conversation with Alpha implies that they've clashed in the past.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Is killed off by Nihilus' ghost in the same flashback where she is introduced.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: She initially hired Alpha's team to help her acquire the Mask of Nihilus and to protect her operation from the rival Apex Society. Once the droids uncover the ancient artifact, she and her pirates immediately turn on them, declaring that the droids are no longer of any use to them.

The Apex Society

    Apex Society in General
A Sith cult that worshipped Darth Nihilus. They searched for the Mask of Darth Nihilus in hopes of awakening Nihilus' spirit and being granted Force-sensitivity. They came into conflict with a pirate gang called Sando's Boys on the planet Volik.
  • Aristocrat Team: Their members consist entirely of wealthy nobles.
  • Breaking Out the Boss: They seek to obtain the Mask of Darth Nihilus in hopes of rescuing Nihilus from his prison. Nihilus' Force ghost promptly kills them all upon being awoken.
  • Cult: They are a Sith cult who worship Darth Nihilus.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: They seek to obtain the Mask of Nihilus, believing the Sith artifact to be capable of granting them all Force abilities. As the reader already knows, Nihilus' soul is being contained inside the mask and the moment Nihilus' spirit wakes up from his slumber, he immediately wipes out the entire Apex Society while ignoring their requests for power.
  • Evil Versus Evil: With Sando's Boys over possession of Darth Nihilus' mask.
  • More Dakka: After Sando's pirates drive them off the first time, they come back better armed with blasters and repeaters.
  • Noodle Incident: Sando mentions having previously driven them off with her gang.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Both Sando and Alpha dismiss them as a bunch of Sith wannabes. This changes once they return heavily armed with repeating blasters.
  • Posthumous Character: They were all killed by Nihilus more than a hundred years prior to the main story.
  • Satellite Character: The only thing known about them is that they're Collan's heavily-armed henchmen.
  • Total Party Kill: Every single one of them is killed by Nihilus' spirit using his Force drain shortly after finishing off Sando's pirates.

    Collan Eislo

Collan Eislo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/collan_eislo.png
"My Lord, I have come here with my people, the Apex Society, to save you and ask for your favour. Please, grant me the power of the Forc-"

Species: Human

Debut: Legends

"Collan Eislo. Pampered noble and wannabe Sith. Didn't you learn your lesson the last time my boys kicked you off planet?"
Sando

A nobleman turned Sith cultist and the leader of the Apex Society.

  • Adaptational Wimp: In the original Star Wars d20 mini-adventure, he was described as a skilled swordsman who wielded an ancient Sith sword in battle. This version doesn't seem to possess a sword and appears to rely his subordinates to do his dirty work.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Nihilus finds Collan's ambition to be his most notable trait. His desire for more power and rising above the Sith is what fuels his search for Nihilus' mask.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: He's an evil nobleman and a Sith wannabe who wants power.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He wants to find Nihilus' mask in order to summon the Sith's ghost. He does just that, only for Nihilus to almost immediately kill him afterward.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He believes that he has what it takes to become a Sith and thought he could use the Mask of Darth Nihilus to make himself strong enough to establish his own Sith Order separate from the one Palpatine and Vader belonged to. He's really just a spoiled brat with a hint of Force-sensitivity and ends up having his life drained by Darth Nihilus without much fanfare.
  • Death by Irony: He's killed by the very Sith ghost he sought to serve. To further add on the irony, Collan is a Sith wannabe who dreams of being able to use their powers, yet Nihilus only awoke and killed Collan because he detected that Collan was Force-sensitive. The very power that Collan has revered and craved for so long ends up being his undoing.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Collan wants to create his own personal Sith Order during a time when the Galactic Empire was at the height of its power and Palpatine ruled the known galaxy. Even if by some miracle everything had worked out for Collan, his Sith faction would almost certainly have been eradicated by the Empire the moment they learned of their existence, given Palpatine's well-known intolerance for any rival Sith.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: He's described as having pasty white skin with medium-length black hair which highlights his creepy nature as a Sith cultist.
  • Killed Midsentence: "Please, grant me the power of the Forc-" [Nihilus kills him with Force Drain]
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Collan's Force-sensitivity awakens Nihilus' spirit from his mask, who proceeds to kill everyone present with the exception of Alpha's squad, saving all the droids' lives.
  • Privilege Makes You Evil: He grew up pampered in a wealthy family and was spoiled rotten. He's also a cruel and ambitious Sith cultist.
  • Rich Language, Poor Language: He speaks with a tone of "regality and nobility" which highlights his wealthy upbringing compared to Sando and Alpha.
  • Self-Disposing Villain: Really, even if Alpha and Sando hadn't intervened, he would have still died anyway because his meager Force-sensitivity is what wakes up Nihilus' spirit and Collan ends up becoming the Lord of Hunger's first meal.
  • Slasher Smile: He gives Sando and Alpha a savage grin before having his men pull their guns on them.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He sees himself as the next big-name Sith Lord when he's just a Sith wannabe that no one takes seriously and his Force-sensitivity is so weak that Nihilus doesn't even consider him worth the effort of trying to possess.
  • Villain Has a Point: He wasn't wrong when he thought that the Mask of Nihilus contained Nihilus' ghost or that the Sith spirit could grant him Force-sensitivity. Unfortunately for him, Nihilus didn't see him as worthy enough to have Force powers and drains his life instead.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Is killed off in the same flashback where he's introduced.

Galactic Races and Governments

    Galactic Republic

Galactic Republic

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/old_republic_army.png

Debut: Victory

A massive, intergalactic democracy that served as the ruling government of the galaxy for thousands of years.
  • Athens and Sparta: They are the Athens to the Mandalorians' Sparta.
  • Color Motif: Orange.
  • Cool Starship: During Jaune's dreams of Nihilus' past, the Republic is shown using massive, hammerhead-shaped starships in battle.
  • Galactic Superpower: They are said to control the vast majority of the galaxy.
  • Good Republic, Evil Empire: The benevolent Galactic Republic with its Jedi protectors is contrasted by the autocratic Sith Empire and its power-hungry Sith Lords.
  • Highly-Conspicuous Uniform: The soldiers in their army wear orange and black armor, which especially makes them stand out on the battlefield.
  • The Republic: It's in the name.
  • Space Navy: They have one called the Republic Navy.
  • Space Police: The Republic Navy acts as one. When not fighting in a war, their fleets are seen hunting down criminal groups like the Wavelength Gale.

    Mandalorians

The Mandalorians

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mandalorian_neo_crusaders.png

Debut: Victory

"For Mandalore! For glory!"

A warrior race that invaded the Galactic Republic in a conflict known as the Mandalorian Wars.
  • Armor Is Useless: As cool as their armor seems, it does little good against opponents wielding lightsabers.
  • Armored Villains, Unarmored Heroes: In the flashbacks depicting the Mandalorian Wars, the scenes of battle contrast the Mandalorians' armor with the simple robes worn by the Jedi fighting against them.
  • Cool Helmet: Their helmets have T-shaped visors and are described by Jaune as looking cool.
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: During the Battle of Malachor V, some of their warriors use flamethrowers to try killing their Jedi enemies.
  • Gender Is No Object: They don't discriminate based on gender and their warriors consist of both men and women.
  • Jet Pack: Their warriors fly into battle wearing jet packs.
  • Proud Warrior Race: They are an entire culture of Blood Knights that tried to conquer the galaxy out of a desire to satisfy their lust for battle.
  • Space Orcs: They're described as a barbarian-like race of warriors who travel through space and ravage inhabited worlds.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Everything related to Nihilus' Start of Darkness can ultimately be traced back to them. Had they never attempted to conquer the galaxy, Nihilus would still be a Jedi, he would've never fallen to the Dark Side, and the Battle of Malachor V (which led to his transformation into a Force Wound) would have never taken place.
  • Villain of Another Story: They were the main villains for the Old Republic back when Nihilus was a Jedi and several flashbacks depict a younger Nihilus fighting against them on the battlefield.

    Yuuzhan Vong
An alien species that devastated the galaxy in a brutal war many decades ago.
  • Retired Monster: In the past, they were conquerors who killed so many that several Wounds in the Force were formed at the sites of their massacres. According to Darth Wyyrlok, the Vong today have long since become peaceful and are no longer interested in starting another war.
