Dale

Voiced by: Nobuhiko Okamoto (Japanese), Brandon Winckler (English)

  • Age-Gap Romance: With Latina, with a gap of ten years.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: After meeting Latina, he reaches a period where he's openly friendly with friends and acquaintances. The moment he hears how Lantina was subjected to bullying and racial discrimination, he completely drops all pretenses and silliness to see to it that her teacher not only gets fired, but excommunicated so that she doesn't get transferred into another city as a Karma Houdini.
  • Devoted to You: Even before he fell for her, he was devoted body and soul to Latina and vowed to protect her from danger of unwanted suitors. Eventually evolved into Single-Target Sexuality since he doesn't waver.
  • Papa Wolf: To Latina. Usually, it's Played for Laughs, but on occasion plays it dead straight. One example of this is after he learns of the nun who attacked and traumatized Latina into ripping off her remaining horn, and having her punished by making the church excommunicate her from all churches instead of sending her off to another one, and escaping punishment like before.
  • Parental Substitute: He is responsible for getting Latina to interact with the world and socializing her, but subverted. Nobody, least of all Latina, sees him as a parent since he's often away during her development. A good chunk of the story focuses on Dale having to realize this and recognize Latina as a woman.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Dale is not only a powerful adventurer, he also has powerful connections within the Temple of Ahmar, and will use his authority not to abuse it, but to use it for a righteous cause. Which means he can gain information from people he needs to dig dirt on them, and will see to it any offenders are properly punished. This is how he got the church to not only fire Latina's teacher, he got them to excommunicate her in contrary to their rules when he had enough evidence and witnesses to back up his claims.
  • Touched by Vorlons: By being embued with the energy and powers of Demons, Dale is able to become Latina's retainer and receive longer life and strength.
  • Tranquil Fury: When he's truly angry, like say if you treated him like a child prior to the story, or if you hurt Latina in any way shape or form, watch out. You don't want to get on his bad side.

Latina

Voiced by: Kanon Takao (Japanese), Ryan Bartley (English)

  • Adorably Precocious Child: No one is immunenote  to how adorable Latina is.
  • Age-Gap Romance: With Dale, with a gap of ten years.
  • Cheerful Child: As a child, she's always cheerful and upbeat, bringing smiles to everyone around her.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Many of the other characters who run into her are often stricken by this. The regular bar patrons in particular end up protecting her from time to time whenever she's outside.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: When she first meets Helmine, the blonde mage that Dale sometimes works with, Latina questions who she is, then hugs Dale tightly and asks him if he's going on another quest. Though she denies it, Dale can tell her mood soured upon meeting Helmine.
  • Daddy's Girl: She seemingly has this relationship with Dale before it turns out to be Rescue Romance.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Other than cats, animals are usually very friendly towards her. Including some magical beasts near Dale's hometown.
  • Kiddie Kid: She was rather innocent and more naïve for an eight year old. Justified due to her lack of socializing with the common world.
  • Morality Pet: She is one to everyone involved. Meaning even the entire pub where both her and Dale stays at are very protective of her, including kids her age.
  • Nice Girl: She happens to be very sweet and kind towards everyone, which is why many townsfolk come to like her despite her demon heritage and come to her defense when she was abused by a bigoted nun at school.
  • Protectorate: The title's not called If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord for nothing.
  • Rescue Romance: Admits she fell in love with Dale because he saved her.
  • Self-Harm: After a particularly nasty incident with her demon hating elementary school teacher, Latina breaks off her horns to the point where they're nubs so she could blend in with the human populace.

Dancing Ocelot

Kenneth

Voiced by: Tsuyoshi Koyama (Japanese), Kaiji Tang (English)

  • Parental Substitute: Eventually along with Rita, Kenneth eventually becomes Latina's true parental figure, since she stays at the Dancing Ocelot for most of her life and Kenneth is usually there to guide her. When time comes for Latina's wedding, Kenneth is even the man who walks her down the aisle.

Rita

Voiced by: Manami Numakura (Japanese), Jeannie Tirado (English)

School

The Racist Teacher

  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: The reason she attacked Latina was that the teacher originally came from a village that neighbored territory controlled by Demons. When they attacked, her parents were killed leaving her with a deep seated hatred for the Demon race. Dale doesn't let this be reason enough to let her off the hook, and further comments that it doesn't explain her hatred of other "non-human" races such as Elves.
  • Kicked Upstairs: The Nun Teacher was transferred to Kreuz after her bigoted hatred of non-humans caused the Elves in the town she was stationed in to vow to stop performing in public due to her actions, causing a massive loss in tourism (heavily based on Elven music and trade with Elves). The Church was planning on doing this again after the incident with Latina but Dale used his authority to make sure she was properly punished this time.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The nun/teacher who traumatized Latina into ripping off her remaining horn doesn’t get off stock free. Dale uses his authority and standing with the church to have her rightfully punished instead of simply sent to a different town like the last time she caused problems. More specifically, Dale gets her expelled from the temples (which could be a near-death sentence, depending on how sheltered she was previously) by threatening to take most of the Kreuz temple to the arbitration court to answer for their deficient handling of the situation previously.
  • Persona Non Grata: Dale's response to the racist teacher's bigotry and horrid treatment of Latina is to seek out evidence and use it to ensure said teacher gets defrocked and barred from the temples.
  • Sadist Teacher: Episode 4 involves her, complete with Fantastic Racism to boot. Thankfully, Latina's friends all stand up to her, even if it meant getting excommunicated in the process. The teacher is later kicked out of the school for her cruelty thanks to Dale's intervening.
