Player Characters

Series 1: Jackalheart

     Bor Ealis

Played by: Gus Sorola

Race: Human (Volume 1)/Dwarf (Volume 2)
Class: Paladin (Oath of Vengeance)/ Cleric (Volume 2)
Alignment: Lawful Good
Originally, one of the two Paladins of the group who insisted that he led the team. He used to be rather abrasive towards non-human species when he was human, tolerating those in his unit for the sake of the mission.Volume 2 saw him not only being a Cleric instead, but somehow changing to a Dwarf.

Tropes associated with Bor Ealis:

  • Authority in Name Only: Considers himself the leader of the party, but nobody really listens to him.
  • Boomerang Bigot: Spends the entirety of Volume 1 being very bigoted against non-humans, only tolerating his party at best (even invoking You Are A Credit To Your Species once with Mogar). We find out in Volume 2 he's actually a dwarf, and its implied his racism stems from him wanting to be human, and overcompensating for the fact he's secretly not.
  • Deadpan Snarker: As to be expected of Gus.
  • Fantastic Racism: As a human, used to express the belief that humans are superior to all other races. He tolerated the non-humans in his party, but still made it a point to remind them that he believed himself superior to them.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Often called this, despite being only seventeen.
  • Humans are Leaders: He believes that because he's a human, he's more than qualified to lead the group. At least in volume 1.
  • Lawful Good: As a paladin of Bahamut, he falls under this alignment.
  • Noodle Incident: Somehow turned from a human into a dwarf between volumes 1 and 2. Its implied that he was always a dwarf who merely lied about being human
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: He's only 5'2 but is still a tough warrior. Volume 2 reveals he's actually shorter than that.
  • The Paladin: Bor's class originally.
  • Token Human: Bor was the only human on his squad in volume 1 and was very proud of it, too.

     Bo Jingles

Played by: Geoff Ramsey

Race: Tiefling
Class: Bard (College of Valor)
Alignment: Chaotic Something (Written on-screen as 'Chaotic' in Season One and 'Chaotic Neutral' in Season Two and Three)
The bard of the group. Bo Jingles is a cowardly yet egotistical Tiefling, who is often the source of annoyance for the rest of the party.

Tropes associated with Bo Jingles:

  • Ambiguously Evil: Refuses to divulge his alignment on the Good/Evil axis.
  • Butt-Monkey
  • Character Shilling: Subject to a massive amount of this by Akshay, once Geoff starts controlling him, to the point that he is absolutely revered in Ribcage.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: For as cowardly and useless as Bo Jingles tends to be, he does have his moments. For example, after Sanji betrays the party and ties him up, he deals twenty-four damage to her, makes her flee from him, and then gets free. All on his own. Another example is in the Truth Room, he's able to keep a good poker face even while under a Zone of Truth to the point it frustrates Calka into giving up with interrogating them verbally.
  • Dead All Along: Bo Jingles was killed in episode 5.
  • Dirty Coward: His teammates cannot stand his constant cowardice.
  • Dreadful Musician: His bardic songs are often off key and off beat. The rest of the group is quick to point this out. In-universe, however, he actually seems to be quite talented, though not nearly as much as he believes himself to be.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: None of his teammates can stand him.
  • Kill and Replace: A victim of this.
  • Leader Wannabe: Will often treat himself as the leader, only to be ignored by the others.
  • Let's Mock the Monsters: His spell Vicious Mockery allows him to insult monsters and cause them physical pain. Usually, his insult involves making fun of the enemies genital size.
  • Magic Music: As a bard, this comes naturally to Bo Jingles.
  • My Girl Is a Slut: Married to Griffin Ramsey, who naturally spurns his affections in the game in favor of almost every other male character. And a few female ones too.
  • Pyromaniac:Starts fires when he's upset and is responsible for at least three so far. This actualy get's him killed and replaced by a Yaksha Also has access to the heat metal spell which causes fire damage to any metallic object.
  • Quirky Bard: He's certainly one of the more eccentric people in the party.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Almost always introduces himself as the Bo Jingles, world famous bard. Nobody has ever heard of him, but he's a good enough liar to make people think he might be telling the truth.
    • Once the party travels through time, it is found that he actually IS quite famous in certain areas.
  • Troll: A massive one especially during Season Two in which he manages to insult a random Tiefling woman upon arrival to a strange town, and then massively messes up the plan to kill the mayor. Tends to adopt a Never My Fault attitude too when he does this. Turns out there's a reason why he found so much 'fun' in sabotaging the party.

     Mogar Jones

Played by: Michael Jones

Race: Dragonborn (White)
Class: Paladin (Oath of Vengeance)/ Dark Knight (Volume 2)
Alignment: Lawful Good (Volume 1)/ Chaotic Good (Volume 2)/ Lawful evil (Volume 2)
A violent yet well meaning Dragonborn, and the group's second paladin. Mogar's smarts don't exactly match up with his strength, but his admirable skills in battle make him a valuable asset to the team.

Tropes associated with Mogar Jones:

  • An Ice Person: As a white dragonborn, Mogar has the innate ability to breathe ice. At one point, he uses it for no reason other than to entertain some children.
  • Dumb Muscle: Mogar's smarts aren't quite on par with his strength.
Michael: "I've got a -2 Wisdom modifier... and -1 Intelligence. Thinking hurts."
  • Glass Cannon: He hits like a truck, especially at later levels, but his Attack! Attack! Attack! battle strategy leads to him frequently going down.
  • Eye Scream: Lost an eye between volumes.
  • Gender Bender: Mogar swaps gender and alignment after traveling through a portal.
  • Interspecies Romance: In another timeline he once had one with Na.
  • No Indoor Voice: Mogar has a tendency to shout and yell at others. A lot. Not surprising, considering who plays him.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Whacked off during a rest period once - loudly - and the rest of his team will not let him forget it.
  • Only Sane Man: Often the one to take this role, or at least be the closest thing to it.
  • The Paladin: Mogar's class in volume 1.

     Orma

Played by: Griffon Ramsey /Jack Pattillo/Jeremy Dooley/Allison/Miles Luna/Adam Thompson/Bethany Feinstein/Steve Hilderbrand

Race: Half-Orc
Class: Barbarian (Totem Warrior - Eagle)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
The group's barbarian and heavy hitter, Orma is a half-orc who has a penchant for not being herself.

Tropes associated with Orma:

  • Amazonian Beauty: Very muscular and attracts quite a bit of male attention.
  • The Big Guy: The main muscle of the party.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: Even the tiniest bit of alcohol makes her pass out. It tends to affect her personality.
  • Nature Lover: To date has saved a mother tiger and tamed pack beasts.
  • Sleeps with Everyone but You: Goes out of her way to make Bo Jingles (played by her real-life husband) jealous. He's resorted to creating illusions of her farting to drive her conquests away.
  • Vertebrate with Extra Limbs: As of #33 she now has four arms.
  • Weapons of Their Trade: Her weapon of choice is a maul. According to her, she uses one because she was once a mason's assistant, and therefore it's what she's most comfortable with.

     Albus Cumberbatch

Played by: Ryan Haywood

Race: Half-Elf... Technically.
Class: Warlock (Great Old One, Pact of the Chain)/arcane Trickster (Volume 2)
Alignment: Chaotic Good(formerly Chaotic Neutral and Neutral Evil)

Tropes associated with Albus Cumberbatch:

  • Ax-Crazy
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Don't let his cloudcuckoolandish tendencies fool you, Albus will kill anyone without a second thought.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Whether it's being distracted by samples, wondering if anyone he encounters speaks Deep, or declaring himself the lord of fire, he's a bit out there.
  • I Have Many Names: While we've only seen 2 of them, Albus uses several fake personas, such as the Duke Royal of Landrith.
  • Indy Ploy: Albus is pretty good at thinking of plans on the fly.
  • Large Ham: He's played by Ryan. It's to be expected. Especially when posing as the Duke Royal.
  • Likes Older Women: Albus has flirted with and had sex with the village elder Mila and later he flirted with and admitted he would have sex with a recently turned female Akshay if he had nothing better to do Though the "older" part is not entirely true since Albus is only physically young.
  • Noodle Incident: Got hit with a bad sleep spell (despite being part Elf) and woke up a different class.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite being the Token Evil Teammate, he's the only one of the party to be nice to the Kenku.
  • Really 700 Years Old: While he appears to be quite young, he's actually existed since the beginning of time. He just doesn't know that.
  • Right-Hand Cat: Treats his ferret in this way, often stroking it menacingly.
  • Sanity Slippage: Undergoes a little at the end of #31 and a chunk of #32 when his familiar (which in the character's backstory is half Albus' mind) dies. He gets better when he manages to resummon it.
  • Signature Move: When he attacks, it's a fair bet that it's likely going to be an Eldritch Blast. Ryan himself frequently lampshades this.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Again, it's Ryan. Are you surprised?
  • Upper-Class Twit: While posing as the Duke Royal of... a place whose name seems to be a bit uncertain.

    Akshay

Played by: Geoff Ramsey (Season 2)

Race: Human
Class: Unknown/None (Season 1)/ Drunken Master (Season 2)
A homeless old drunk NPC that the gang encounters in Jackalheart. After saving him from being sacrificed, the party comes to befriend him. They run into him again in Season 2, when he becomes Geoff's player character.

Tropes associated with Akshay:

  • Ascended Extra: From a random NPC that the party happened to befriend to Geoff's player character.
  • The Alcoholic: The man loves to drink.
  • Cool Old Guy: Bor Ealis certainly thinks so.
  • Catchphrase: "Ayyy, it's Akshay!" This drove the group into hysterics upon first hearing it, and resulted in an Insistent Terminology where the party always refers to him as "Ayyyy, it's Akshay."
    • In Volume 2, his increased wealth has led to "Put it on the Akshay tab" being suggested as a new phrase.
  • Disposable Vagrant: Defied, interestingly enough, with the party saving him from being sacrificed.
  • Gender Bender: After having an... unfortunate incident involving his testicles being crushed Akshay willingly hops through a portal that changes his gender and alignment.
  • Phrase Catcher: See above.
  • Third-Person Person: As of Volume 2, he commonly refers to himself as "Old Akshay."
  • Took a Level in Badass: Following the timeskip, he's become a Drunken Master monk with combat skills on par with the rest of the party.

Series 2: The Mechs Generation

     Thimbledick

Played by: Gus Sorola

Race: Gnosin
Class: Pilot
Alignment: Chaotic Good/ Chaotic Neutral (from episode 47)
The group's pilot. Small in size, big "where it counts".

Tropes associated with Thimbledick:

     Tiberius 'Tib' Nightshade

Played by: Michael Jones

Race: Dog
Class: Hybrid
A dog who escaped from an unknown place where he was once being experimented upon, this hybrid, talking dog is the one who gives the group their quest.

Tropes associated with Tib:

  • Dung Fu: He's a dog. He tends to use his urine and poop although not really to any effective level of offence.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: His smarts make up the 'human' part though. At least until he gets his balls back, then he takes on a much-more humanoid appearance.
  • Talking Animal: A talking dog.

     IO

Played by: Griffon Ramsey

Race: Shimmerswift
Class: Esper/ Biotech
Alignment: Lawful Good/ Neutral Good (from episode 47)
An intern at the school, IO comes with the group because there needs to be someone from faculty keeping an eye on the group's students.

Tropes associated with IO:

  • Only Sane Man: She tries to be. Quickly goes out the window somewhat, although she is still probably the closest, wanting to get the adventure over with and get back to school.
  • Shapeshifter: Can change appearance once a day.

     Rand

Played by: Ryan Haywood

Race: Dand
Class: Hood
Alignment: True Neutral/Chaotic Neutral (from episode 47)

Tropes associated with Rand:

  • Foster Kid: Receives a call from his foster father early on, and his foster family show up in the next episode.
  • Romantic Wingman: Constantly trying to set Thimbledick up with Kneebone, because watching Gus squirm about romantic scenes with Frank amuses Ryan.
  • Sticky Fingers: Shows signs of it, like constantly trying to steal NPC's wallets.

NPC Allies

Series 1: Jackalheart

     Father Dori Vakla
Race: Human
Class: Cleric (Life Domain)
A cleric of Bahamut that the party rescues from a group of winged kobolds.

Tropes associated with Father Dori:

  • Badass Preacher: He's pretty capable in a fight.
  • Blood Knight: For a priest, he certainly is fairly eager to engage in combat.
  • Butt-Monkey: At first, since the party doesn't trust him, he gets insulted a lot.
  • La Résistance: A member of an underground network working against the Rajah.
  • Memetic Molester: Despite there being no evidence of it, the party is certain he's "a diddler."
  • The Medic: Is the most reliable healer of the party.
  • The Stoic: In a stark contrast to the rest of the party, Father Dori is usually cool, calm, and collected.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Once he started getting more effective with his healing spells, most of the insults he got before were diminished when he could save any of their lives with his healing.

     Na Lu
Race: Human
Class: Monk
A young monk that the party came came across in the jungle who's on a quest to find her mother in Jackalheart.

Tropes associated with Na:

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: As a monk, she is gifted in the art of hand to hand combat, and prefers to fight only with her bare fists.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: When the party finds themselves facing a young dragon in battle, Na is the first to strike and manages to knock the dragon prone in a single hit.
  • Groin Attack: One of her preferred methods of attacking.
  • Interspecies Romance: In other timeline with Mogar. They've talked about exploring it again this time round.
  • Missing Mom: She lost contact with her mother a while ago, and joins the party in the hopes they'll find her. She finally reunites with her in episode 21.
  • The Rival: Occasionally this to Orma, with Orma frequently becoming displeased if Na does something cool.
  • Ship Tease: Several times with Mogar.

     Cork
Race: Kenku
Class: Rogue (Thief)/Druid
A kenku the group recruited in the caves of the Underdark.

Tropes associated with Cork:

  • Butt-Monkey: Is often the target of bullying from Bor.
  • Chekhov's Skill: He can imitate any sound he hears perfectly which allows him to open a password-triggered door to escape the casino.
    • As of episode 27 he seems to possess hidden magical talent, which only comes to light trying to heal Na during the devil fight.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: We're not entirely sure how close he was with his fellow Kenku, but he doesn't seem too upset that they died.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Everyone of the main cast members hates him, save for Albus and Orma. Bor seems to hate him the most.
  • Shapeshifter: As a druid he can shapeshift into animals.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Cork, Quark, Quork, Qork, Kork... A lot of fans aren't quite clear on the official spelling of his name.

     Sanji
Race: Human (cursed)
Class: Unknown/None
A young girl who the party saved from the winged kobolds along with Father Dori. She is inexplicably attracted to Bo Jingles, to the party's confusion and annoyance.

Tropes associated with Sanji:

  • Anti-Climax Boss: Her appearance in season 3 where she is unceremoniously killed off without really posing any threat to the party even with the orbs buffs.
  • Axe-Crazy: Post-reveal of her cursed nature it's very clear her curse has taken it's toll on her sanity.
  • Beneath the Mask: Sanji never really wanted to help the team at all. While she did admit her feelings for Bo Jingles were true, she was really looking to obtain the Eye, a mystical artifact owned by Father Dori, and was also looking to satisfy her curse by drinking Bo Jingles' blood.
  • Face–Heel Turn: In episode 16, she puts everyone into a deep sleep, steals a powerful artifact from Father Dori, and kidnaps Bo Jingles, planning to feed on his blood.
  • The Load: Before her betrayal, Sanji was not only useless, but obnoxious as well. Her turns in combat were usually wasted fawning over Bo Jingles or screaming.
  • Mistaken Age: Sanji is introduced as 16 years old but the party is insistent on saying that she is 14 or younger.
  • Wolverine Claws: Post-transformation she gains deadly claws on her fingers.

Series 2: The Mechs Generation

     Kneebone Hartley
Race: Unknown

A senior student, she accompanies the group after helping them heal from their first fight and witnessing Tiberius talk.

The supreme ruler of Jackal Heart

Ad Readers

Series 1: Jackalheart

A goblin that began appearing in Season 2, he regales the audience with tales of sponsors.

Tropes associated with Ad Goblin Sr.:

     Ad Goblin Jr.

Played by: Jeremy Dooley

The Ad Goblin's son, who fills in when his dad is away.

Tropes associated with Ad Goblin Jr.:

  • Dull Surprise: His ads are often read in this manner.
  • Emo Teen: Frequently mentions how he hates his job.
  • Family Business: Works in his father's advertising business, despite wanting no part of it.
  • Horned Humanoid: Maybe? If indeed the Ad Goblins were the prior form of Ad-stronaut's "species". He only has one to symbolise his younger age compared to his father.
  • Sticky Fingers: Has taken things from Ryan prior to ad reads on a few occasions.

Series 2: The Mechs Generation

     Ad-stronaut

Played by: Trevor Collins

An astronaut who occasionally floats in to read tales of sponsors to the table before returning to orbit once more...

Tropes associated with Ad-stronaut:

  • Horned Humanoid: Greets the table during the second episode with excitement because his "horn grew in".
  • Prop Recycling: Appears with one of the Ad Goblins' horns on his (space) helmet in the second episode. Apparently it's a real one he grew.

     Ad Goblin Jr. (Future)

Played by: Jeremy Dooley

The Ad Goblin's son, somehow in the future.

Tropes associated with Ad Goblin Jr. (Future):

  • Fish out of Temporal Water: If this is the Ad Goblin Jr. we were previously familiar with. Notes that he likes the 'future' tablet.
  • Horned Humanoid: Maybe? If indeed the Ad Goblins were the prior form of Ad-stronaut's "species". He only has one to symbolise his younger age compared to his father.

Dungeon Master

     Frank

Played by: Himself/Frank Jun Kim

The group's Dungeon Master, who's tasked with organizing the gang's antics into a coherent story...somehow.
  • Badass Bookworm: Despite possessing a great knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons and generally being a relatively unassuming guy, Frank is a skilled martial artist, as evidence by both his descriptions of combat and Geoff's mention of him teaching Millie martial arts. He attended the same school Gus attended (which in podcasts Gus has described as basically being a violent prison where people would turn dinner cards into knives and grow out fingernails they would then make them talons), and has said that he avoided bullies by just being so unafraid he'd make people back off.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Both him as a dungeon master and the Non Player Characters he plays are frequently quite snarky.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Not as a DM, but Frank himself is a longtime friend of Geoff and Gus, and appeared in the very first Immersion (along with the late Monty Oum in his first appearance as well,) more than six years before appearing in H&H.
  • The Stoic: He generally speaks in a relaxed, controlled manner. However, sometimes the crew still gets the best of him.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He is perfectly willing to hear out input and questions from the players, and seems to be fine with the...questionable decisions they tend to make.
