31A Unit

The main protagonist group of the story.
    Tropes associated with 31A
  • Once per Episode: The main chapters and events often come out with a new song by 31A.
  • Plug 'n' Play Friends: Straight away on Day 0 of Chapter 1, all six members of 31A get along without any particular disputes (even Megumi who sees Ruka as a rival) and stay that way ever since. Earlier before this, Izumi asks since when did Ruka, Karen, and Tojo become friends, to which Ruka replies, "Just a moment ago."
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Let's see: a rock star, a hacker, a (weak) psychic, a self-proclaimed elite spy, a Gamer Chick with a Split Personality who is a serial killer, and a little girl created to captain a battleship, all of who didn't even know each other period of the event.

    Ruka Kayamori
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_aruka.png
My Legend starts from now
Height: 159cm
Birthday: 24 June
Seraphim Weapon: Brave Blue
Seraphim Code: "My legend starts from now."
Voiced by: Tomori Kusunoki, XAI (Vocal)

The main protagonist and current leader of 31A, Ruka is the former guitarist and vocalist as well as song writer for the legendary band She is Legend. While she has a carefree attitude, she genuinely cares for her friends, a quality that makes it her easy for her to get along with many people. Not long after the start of story, she has reformed her band with 31A's members.

Tropes associated with Ruka:

  • The Ace: She's noted to have a couple of inexplicable talents besides being a talented musician, such as adapting to her role as a Seraph User and team leader in mere weeks after starting. It's exasperatedly lampshaded on by Yuki during Day 1 of Where the Cosmos Blooms On, where Ruka communicates with silent baseball players solely through body language and score a home run in the following game, despite there being no indication she could do any of this before.
  • Affectionate Nickname: She gives nearly every character she meets a nickname, which are listed in their profiles' trope headings. She doesn't get to give one to Aoi before her death by Chapter 2's end however.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: She often plays the role of The Gadfly, spouting nonsense for her own amusement, but she can also play as a Straight Man if the situation called.
  • Boyish Short Hair: The only one of her unit, too.
  • Demoted to Extra: For some events where she is demoted into a supporting role.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Also the only one using Dual Swords among the cast.
  • Jack of All Trades: Gameplay-wise upon ranking up, Ruka can learn an HP damage skill, a Break skill and a DP recovery skill, though she leans more into an Attacker.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: She usually goofs around on a daily basis, but she'll get emotional and level-headed when a serious situation calls for it.

    Yuki Izumi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_ayuki.png
Hello World
Height: 160cm
Birthday: 17 September
Seraphim Weapon: Rapid Fire
Seraphim Code: "Hello World."
Voiced by: Ryoko Maekawa
A former hacker from a organization called Orchid.

Tropes associated with Yukkie:

  • Ascended Fanboy: Of a sort. She was once a fan of the previous iteration of She is Legend before becoming part of the current band herself.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: She may need a therapist one of these days, given that she's always the first to retort to some inane antic or remark being made. With Ruka, this is practically their relationship where Izumi's sanity is often ground into dust.
  • Hero of Another Story: Of her entire team, she was involved in an event with global ramifications where she worked alongside others to stop World War III.
  • Only Sane Woman: Virtually the only one who keeps track of her unit's objectives or doesn't start an inane comedy routine as she'd like to put it. Her sanity hanging out with insane people is a worrying matter though.
  • Playful Hacker: She used to be part of a hacker group known as Orchid. These skills don't really come into use that often in most of the stories, though it gives her handy knowledge about technology.
  • Ship Tease: Played for Laughs. One of the Running Gags is that whenever Ruka and Izumi get a bit intimate, their teammates then grin and tease Izumi for being Ruka's passive-aggressive girlfriend. The "girlfriend" is not at all pleased whenever this happens.
  • Straight Man: May her voice be ever-prepared for every tsukkomi she has to make to everyone getting overly plucky and quirky.
  • Suddenly Shouting: This happens a lot whenever she's surprised, more often once she reaches the end of her patience retorting against Ruka.
  • The Smart Girl: While Karen and Tama are shown to be very smart, Yuki is easily considered to be the consistently smartest one out of the group.

    Megumi Aikawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_amegumi.png
Your Savior hath arrive
Height: 159cm
Birthday: 28 October
Seraphim Weapon: Clavis
Seraphim Code: "Your Savior hath arrive."
Voiced by: Anju Inami
A psychic girl from Kansai.

Tropes associated with Megumin:

  • BFS: What her Seraph takes the form of.
  • Fiery Redhead: Pink, but she's got plenty of bark to match one.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: With Tama. Megumi is a tomboy who gets fired up easily while Tama is more meek and prone to get scared easily.

    Tsukasa Tojo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_atsukasa.png
There is more than one truth
Height: 163cm
Birthday: 14 February
Seraphim Weapon: Supreme Edge
Seraphim Code: "There is more than one truth."
Voiced by: Amami Yurina

A self-proclaimed Elite Intelligence Officer who only knows about useless information.

Tropes associated with Tsukasac-chi:

  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: She is shown to be pretty dumb at times but Awaken Tsukasa on the other hand can considered a league above 31A, making her worthy of her self-proclaimed Elite title.
  • The Ditz: To the point that the group often ignores her comments.
  • Easy Amnesia: She has amnesia regarding certain parts of her past. But in fact it was her past self that blocked parts of her memory in case things go badly for her.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother, a scientist, is said to have died in an accident.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: She starts to behave differently late into Chapter 3, much to everyone's surprise.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Awaken Tsukasa can be downright brutally honest in every aspect as she feels no need to hide any information.

    Karen Asakura

Killing as it were mere breathing
Height: 158cm
Birthday: 11 July
Seraphim Weapon: Glitter Shadow
Seraphim Code: "Killing as it were mere breathing."
Voiced by: Yuu Serizawa, Konomi Suzuki (Vocal)

A lovely quiet gamer girl who conceals a hidden Ax-Crazy side beneath her given image. She later becomes the lead vocalist of the new She is Legend band.

Tropes associated with Karerin:

    Tama Kunimi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_atama.png
The World's Best
Height: 137cm
Birthday: 1 November
Seraphim Weapon: Phantom Weaver
Seraphim Code: "The World's Best."
Voiced by: Aoi Koga

A former battleship captain of the now-defunct Kotetsumaru.

Tropes associated with Otama-san:

31B Unit

A unit that is currently suffering problems of disunity. They are the deuteragonists for Chapter 2.

    Tropes associated with 31B

    Erika Aoi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_aaoi.png
May you have a nice memories
Height: 158cm
Birthday: 7 July
Seraphim Weapon: Shooting Star
Seraphim Code: "May you have a nice memories."
Voiced by: Saki Miyashita

Tropes associated with Aoi:

  • Heroic Sacrifice: Protects both her friends including 31A from Chapter 2 final boss.
    • Not Quite Dead: After her death, a Navi who somehow has some part of her memories appeared, it's heavily implied to be Aoi after her death.
  • Nice Girl: Very friendly and try her best to support her friends.
  • Protection Mission: During the final assualt in Chapter 2
  • Sixth Ranger: Technically seven, she joins 31A during training and become part of their band concert during Chapter 2.
  • The Woobie: Seemingly lacks self-confidence not that well-liked by her teammates despite being the leader of Unit 31B when she was first introduced in Chapter 2, with Ichigo and Sumomo seemingly being extremely rude and dismissive towards her. She eventually got over the confidence issue with Ruka's help and reconciled with her teammates near the end of Chapter 2, only to die protecting Unit 31A and 31B from Red Crimson's final attack.
  • Third-Person Person: She often refers herself in third person.
  • Survivor Guilt: She was originally from Unit 29A but became the Sole Survivor after a disastrous mission. Made worse by the fact that she has Photographic Memory, causing her to lose confidence in herself and suffer from nightly nightmares of her friends' death as seen in the Requiem for the Blue story event.

    Ichigo Minase
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_aichigo.png
Burn in Inferno
Height: 172cm
Birthday: 15 January
Seraphim Weapon: Guilty Cracker
Seraphim Code: "Burn in Inferno"
Voiced by: Aimi Terakawa

Tropes associated with Ichigo:

  • A Day in the Limelight: The story event Requiem for the Blue is told from her perspective as she reminiscences about Aoi with the Navi wearing Aoi's scrunchie after the events of Chapter 2.
  • The Big Guy: Is the tallest playable characters and also strong physical.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She and her sister Sumomo are seemingly very rude and defiant to Aoi at the start of Chapter 2. It was actually their way of attempting to help Aoi regain her self-confidence.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Aoi was this for her and Sumomo. Aoi looked exactly the same as Jasmine, the daughter of a mafia boss who befriended them when they infiltrated the mafia boss's mansion on an assassination mission. Jasmine would later die protecting them when the hit job went wrong.
  • Straight Man: Of 31B.

    Sumomo Minase
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_asumomo.png
Freeze in the Niflheim
Height: 154cm
Birthday: 6 July
Seraphim Weapon: Rainy Lull
Seraphim Code: "Freeze in the Niflheim"
Voiced by: Yuyu Shoji

Tropes associated with Sumomo:

  • Idiot Hair: Has one sticking out from on top of her head.
  • Jerkass Façade: Like Ichigo, her attitude towards Aoi is merely a facade to help her out
  • Sword and Gun: Aside from her Seraph weapon which is a sword, she also has a pistol.
  • Verbal Tic: She has a habit of often ending her sentences with -nya!

    Seika Higuchi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_aseika.png

Tropes associated with A-san:

    Mari Satsuki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_amari.png
Total Annihilation orders has been accepted
Height: 150cm
Birthday: 7 February
Seraphim Weapon: Fortune Gear
Seraphim Code: "Total Annihilation orders has been accepted."
Voiced by: Yume Miyamoto

Tropes associated with Mari Satsuki:

  • A Day in the Limelight: She is the central character of the event Kindness, Sadness, and Reassurance.
  • Ninja Maid: She was raised to be a ninja who now puts those skills to work as a Seraph User and a maid for everyone. It's to the point nigh omniscience that she could operate multiple shopping stores at once without anyone noticing she's missing; in Kindness, Sadness, and Reassurance, Ruka ran from one store to another in the shopping district to see if Mari can really work in both, but no matter what, not even when other people were in the other shop, Mari was always seen in either store.

30G Unit

A senior unit. They are the main focus during Chapter 3.

    Tropes associated with 30G

    Yuina Shirakawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_yuina_8.png
Noblesse Oblige
Height: 164cm
Birthday: 1 July
Seraphim Weapon: Temperence
Seraphim Code: "Noblesse Oblige"
Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori

Tropes associated with Yuina-senpai:

  • Beneath the Mask: Beneath the warm and calm exterior she shows off is that of someone who frantically overthinks a lot of things.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Implied in her first character story. After asking Ruka to help with cleaning up some trash, she offers her help with anything in return, but Ruka had no problems. This causes Yuina to become insistent on asking for whatever problems Ruka might have until she gives one: Ruka is homosexual (maybe) and she wonders if it's weird. Even after getting thrown for a loop, Yuina inwardly mentions having gone through "desperate learning" for these kinds of situations and dispels Ruka's notion with a spiel on the freedom of diversity.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Wields a sword and, though not the main protagonist like Ruka is, she wouldn't have looked out of place being one for the game.
  • Love Confession: Played for Laughs, being on the receiving end of one from Ruka in her first character story. When Yuina pressed for whatever problems Ruka might have, the latter says (though given her poker face and jokey personality, it's hard to tell if she's serious) she is homosexual and has insecurities over it. Yuina is quick to encourage it isn't wrong, but this leads to Ruka confessing to Yuina for saying something nice to her, which then leads to Yuina accepting, though clarifying they should start as friends.
  • No Indoor Voice: A strange inversion given that we hear her Suddenly Shouting when she's flustered and mentally contemplating, while to everyone watching, she's remarkably composed and quiet.
  • The Reliable One: Of her entire unit, Yuina is the most selfless and the one Ruka most clearly sees as a senior.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Invoked as part of her personality and her Seraph Code, "Noblesse Oblige"; she can't stand still without doing something helpful. Her first character story also has her mention having learned some things, implying she had a well-educated background.
  • Running Gag: Whenever she runs into a dilemma, she retreats into her mind, frantically searching for a solution or rationalizing whatever she just heard to the point of screaming inside, then returns to reality as composed as ever with a solution. There's no sign of this ever letting up.

    Monaka Tsukishiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hbr_amonaka.png
Furin Kazan
Height: 170cm
Birthday: 1 December
Seraphim Weapon: Nue
Seraphim Code: "Furin Kazan"
Voiced by: Sara Matsumoto

Tropes associated with Mona-nyan:

  • BFS: Her Seraph Weapon, Nue, is a giant sword almost as tall as she is.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: "Mugamuchu", a secret technique that massively increases her power but also makes her go crazy afterward to the point that she can't tell between friends or foes. Safe to say she never plans to use this unless she is trying to perform a Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Retractable Weapon: When using her SS-rank skill, Rakshasa, Nue unfolds parts of itself to extend into a longer sword.
  • Weapon Across the Shoulder: She carries her sword briefly like this in her Rakshasa skill animation before unleashing its power.
