Main Characters

    Rin Kagamine
The heroine of the story and a class president in Crypton High.
  • Class Representative: She's the class president of her homeroom.
  • Combat Medic: She has the melody, Song of Life, which grants the party some light healing and regen. She also has offensive skills with her katana.
  • Grade Skipper: She got into high school at the age of 12.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: She wields katanas and joins the kendo club on Luka's request.
  • Non-Standard Skill Learning: She learns Vicious Stab after the second battle with Hideki, who used a similar bleed skill on her.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: Some students, like Hideki, resent her for being younger while excelling in academics and kendo.
  • Technician Versus Performer: Gakupo considers her kendo stance unorthodox, but she's still a skilled combatant.

    Luka Megurine
Rin's teacher and adoptive mother.
  • Enemy Scan: She has a scan ability that displays the enemy's HP, shows the enemy's description, and weakens them to her offensive skill.
  • Mage Marksman: She has an attack debuffing melody, Song of Absolution, and she equips guns.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She acts as a Stern Teacher in public, but she's sweeter in private to her family.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Subverted. She sends Rin to the kendo club to learn self-defense, but didn't expect one of the club members, Hideki, to attack Rin. However, Hideki states that he already hated Rin before she joined the club, which means he likely would have targeted her at some point anyways.

    Miku Hatsune
Miku's adoptive sister and a famous idol.
  • The Bet: She challenges Rin to a duel and makes a bet where if she wins, Rin has to go on a date with her. However, Rin can still agree to the date if she wins.
  • Idol Singer: Several posters in the game indicates that she's already well-known for her singing.
  • Instrument of Murder: She wields a guitar as her weapon.
  • Never My Fault: Played for laughs. Before her melody tutorial battle, she destroys a Roomba, causing Rin to say that Miku will most likely be the first target of the great Doomba uprising. If Miku is chosen to accompany Rin to school, the two will find that there really is a great Doomba uprising. Miku then denies responsibility, though to be fair, the mastermind behind the Doombas is after Rin and not the other party members.
  • Recurring Boss: The second fight in the game is Miku, who uses the battle to teach Rin how to use melodies. If she's chosen to accompany Rin to school, she can get brainwashed by the Dominator, forcing Rin to fight her a second time.
  • Squishy Wizard: She has the lowest HP and highest MP of all the party members. However, she's no slouch when it comes to physical attacks, since her Warcry melody buffs the party's attack.

    Gumi
A bat-wielding delinquent who is rumored to challenge and defeat kendo club members. However, she turns out to be more benevolent than she first appears.
  • Batter Up!: She wields a bat as her weapon.
  • Blood Knight: She challenges kendo club members in order to improve her own combat ability. After she befriends Rin, she requests the latter to be her sparring partner.
  • Bully Hunter: When she sees Hideki and Yuuto attacking Rin out of jealousy, Gumi knocks them out with her bat.
  • Draw Aggro: Her Bravado skill increases the chances of enemies attacking her while allowing her to counter.
  • Good All Along: The game leads the player to believe the bat-wielding girl is going to be a dangerous boss. After the second fight with Hideki, Gumi saves Rin and reveals that she only challenged the kendo members to improve herself and has no malice behind her actions. If she's chosen to accompany Rin to school and encounters the Doombas, she'll state she was always training for the day she needed to protect someone.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: She's the best physical attacker, but has no melodies and low MP.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: She mistook Hideki and Yuuto's motive for harassing Rin, but she's still justified in knocking them out and saving Rin.

Crypton High School

    Gakupo
The kendo club's instructor.
  • Chuunibyou: He constantly talks about being a samurai, despite the modern era.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's open-minded about Rin's unorthodox kendo stance, since it doesn't hinder her performance at all.

    Hideki
A member of the kendo club with a bad attitude.
  • The Bully: He uses a real katana to attack Rin and intimidate her into "disappearing." If he loses, he'll have his friend, Yuuto, act as backup to outnumber her.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Combined with Sore Loser. He claims he wanted to be the best of the best in school, but Rin surpassed him in both academics and kendo.
  • Jerkass: He constantly insults Rin for being younger and shows no respect even to his kendo instructor.
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: Gumi thinks he and Yuuto are harassing Rin because they're lolicons. They aren't because they're attacking her out of jealousy.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: His second battle is the reason why Rin learns the Vicious Stab skill, which can come in handy for fighting robots.
  • Recurring Boss: He's fought twice in the game, with the first match being a kendo duel. In the second match, he attacks with a real katana.

    Len Kagamine
Rin's twin brother, who lives in the dorms despite not being a student at Crypton yet.

    Haku Yowane
A gadgeteer who buys parts from Rin and sells various tools and weapons.
  • No Hero Discount: The Doomba invasion doesn't convince her to lower her prices, despite how Rin is the only one who can solve the incident. However, she'll lower her prices if Rin increases her charm stat through equipment, but that's separate from the matter of saving the school.

Robots

    S.I.S.
A mysterious clockwork robot and the boss of the demo, who wants to capture Rin.
  • Apologetic Attacker: After her defeat, she apologizes for attacking Rin and states that she's following her mother's orders.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Her name is an acronym for Surveillance and Interrogation System.
  • Losing Your Head: After her boss fight, she's able to talk despite her head being separated from her body.
  • Turns Red: She'll gain buffs if her minions are defeated first.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's a pretty robot and is seven feet tall according to her second scan.
  • Underestimating Badassery: If you lose to her, you'll get the option to make the battle easier. If you do so, her dialogue will change so that she's more assured of her victory, but her damage and speed are lower, implying that she's not taking the battle seriously because she knows the player lost to her at least once.
