A band formed of a group of Childhood Friends. Once promising to become a band under the light of a shooting star, certain events caused the four girls to drift apart, their promise a distant memory. With the power of the Sekai, however, these friends reunite once again and discover a way to overcome their differences to make their dream come true.
    General
  • Alternate Company Equivalent: Of the girl band Afterglow from BanG Dream!, being a group of childhood friends that form a band, break up, drift apart, and makeup again. That said, they differ in that Leo/need's story begins with the group having been broken up a significant time before the unit story begins and centers around putting the band back together, while Afterglow's breakup happens midstory and for different reasons.
  • Arc Symbol: A shooting star.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead:
    • Blonde: Saki
    • Brunette: Ichika
    • Redhead: Honami
    • Shiho is the only one that doesn't fit any archetype due to her hair being gray.
  • Cast Herd: They were the second unit to have all six of the Crypton VIRTUAL SINGERS appear in their associated SEKAI:
    • Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka were their starting VIRTUAL SINGERS.
    • MEIKO debuted in the event story Don't Let Doubts Hold You Back.
    • Kagamine Rin debuted in the event Unnamed Harmony.
    • KAITO debuted in the event A Bright Future!!
    • Kagamine Len debuted in the event Putting Feelings Into Words.
  • Childhood Friends: They've been best friends since elementary school.
  • Color-Coded Characters: As a whole, the unit is associated with the color dark blue.
    • Ichika: Blue
    • Saki: Yellow
    • Honami: Carnation (a red color)
    • Shiho: Bright green
  • Cosmic Motifs: The group as a whole is associated with shooting stars, they're named after the leonids meteor shower, and the starry night sky is a recurring motif in their trained illustrations. Their surnames also play into the cosmic motif, such as Ichika's surname being "Hoshi (star)"no.
  • Flower Motifs: They're each depicted with flowers in their 2022 birthday cards.
    • Ichika: Geraniums and Sanvitalia
    • Saki: Dog Wood and White Clovers
    • Honami: Gerbera, Chocolate Cosmos, and Rosa Multiflora
    • Shiho: Magnolia and Violets
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble:
    • Cheerful and kind-hearted Saki is Sanguine
    • Sharp-tongued Tsundere Shiho is Choleric
    • Shy and emotionally sensitive Ichika is Melancholic
    • Sweet, gentle Team Mom Honami is Phlegmatic
  • Girl Group: They're a girl band.
  • Image Song: needLe and Integral.
  • Mascot: The band serves as the face of Japanese drink brand Pocari Sweat during its annual summer campaigns; these include Dualvertisement videos where they promote Pocari Sweat alongside Hatsune Miku and themed songs. The 2022 version of the campaign also added an exclusive collaboration story in-game that features the drink.
  • Meaningful Name: They are named after the leonids meteor shower, which is implied to be what they saw when they were children. This also applies to their surnames, as each band member's surname references a celestial body:
    • Ichika Hoshino: Star
    • Saki Tenma: Sky
    • Honami Mochizuki: Moon
    • Shiho Hinomori: Sun
  • Mirror Character: Each member of the unit has an associated VIRTUAL SINGER that reflects aspects of their personalities:
  • Putting the Band Back Together: Quite literally, too. Their band story focuses on Ichika and Saki (with the help of their SEKAI's Miku and Luka) piecing their former band back together.
  • We Used to Be Friends: They used to be tight-knit Childhood Friends who frequently hung out together as kids, but they began to drift apart during their second year of middle school while Saki was simultaneously hospitalized: Ichika, Honami, and Shiho were placed in separate classes, but Shiho was subject to slanderous rumors due to her antisocial nature, and when her classmates started making rude comments about Ichika as well, Shiho decided to cut her off so she wouldn't get further involved in the ordeal. Honami was likewise bullied for not picking sides during conflicts, and afraid of continuing to get hurt, ended up pushing her bandmates away, and Ichika blames herself for not doing enough to prevent the fallout. Their Main Story is dedicated to them reconciling and forming a band once again.

    Ichika Hoshino

I'm going to connect people, just like Miku...!
Debut Appearance
Elementary school appearance
Voiced by: Ruriko Noguchi
Birthday: August 11 (Leo)
School: Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy
Year: 1st (until 3rd anniversary), 2nd (present)
Hobbies: Listening to Miku's music, watching the cacti grow
Unique Skill: Apple peeling
Favorite Food: Yakisoba bread
Disliked Food: Green peas
Bad with: High-intensity theme park rides

Though she looks cool and stoic on the outside, Ichika is a kind girl who's always thinking about her friends. She loves listening to Miku sing. She is the guitarist and vocalist of Leo/need.

Ichika also appears as one of the six characters for Pocari Sweat's "Virtual Tokyo Supply Girls 2020" campaign, performing Aoku Kakerou! alongside Hatsune Miku, MEIKO, and Virtual YouTubers YuNi, Fuji Aoi, and Mirai Akari.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Saki calls her Ichi (or Icchan in Japanese).
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She seems like this appearance-wise, given her long, black hair and quiet nature, but she's actually very kind and gentle.
  • Alternate Character Reading: Ichika's name uses a considerably rarer pronunciation for the kanji "歌".
  • Ascended Fangirl: The biggest Miku fan of the cast, and she gets to have her very own Miku as a mentor and, as the representative of her unit, gets to meet the default Miku during the Fan Festa event, though she doesn't remember it.
  • Audience Surrogate: She's a major fan of Miku's and has listened to her songs since she was a little girl, which many of the Vocaloid fans playing the game can relate to. She also becomes a Vocaloid producer, becoming an audience surrogate for that crowd as well.
  • Bifauxnen: Not by default, however, her "Trust Rank" title with her SEKAI's KAITO says that she becomes "ikemen"note  when she performs.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • She gets along well with KAITO due to them both being equal measures of shy and easily embarrassed. It likely helps that he gets these traits from Ichika, likely fueling an unspoken feeling of kinship between the two of them.
    • In The Warmth of Intersecting Melodies, she becomes interested in meeting N25's Kanade after learning she might be a fellow Virtual Singer fan, excited about the prospect of having another friend to talk to about Miku.
  • Dismissing a Compliment: She has a tendency to do this due to her low self-esteem. This is even noted in one of the 4-koma comic chapters.
  • Duet Bonding: Essentially how she becomes friends with Vivid BAD SQUAD's Kohane and MORE MORE JUMP!'s Minori in Singing Among The Cherry Blossoms.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: As stated, Ichika made an appearance several months before the game's release singing "Aoku Kakerou!" alongside Miku, MEIKO, and several Virtual YouTubers. The song was later added to the game as a duet between her and Miku.
  • Easily Embarrassed Youngster: She's easily flustered, especially when it comes to sharing her lyrics or telling others how she feels.
  • Energetic and Soft-Spoken Duo: The "soft-spoken" to Saki's "energetic". Ichika is shy and has difficulties opening up to people she's unfamiliar with owing to her lack of confidence, while Saki has near boundless amounts of optimism and enthusiasm, and has no issue socializing with new faces.
  • Face of a Thug: She has the looks of an Aloof Dark-Haired Girl, but she's actually very kind and gentle, with any reticence being the result of shyness.
  • Girl Group: In the alternate version of Shibuya introduced in the April Fools' Day 2022 event, she is a member of the girl group Aoharu/friends, performing alongside Saki, Ena, and Airi. Like in the main universe, she's the guitarist of the group, but doesn't appear to be the main vocalist, as Saki sings the most of the four.
  • It's All My Fault: How she feels about the group's falling out, blaming herself for being unable to step in when Shiho and Honami were getting bullied and carrying the guilt for years.
  • The Leader: Subverted; she's the lead vocalist of Leo/need, but Honami is the actual leader of Leo/need as of the The Courage to Lead, the Kindness in My Heart event.
  • Lead Singer Plays Lead Guitar: She is both the lead vocalist and the lead guitarist of Leo/need.
  • Mascot: While in reality, she is no more important than any of the characters featured in the game, her image is plastered on the title screen and she gets slightly more representation as the "face" of the game alongside Hatsune Miku.
  • Meaningful Name: The kanji in her name literally mean "one song". She explains that she was given her name because both her parents are music lovers and met over a shared interest in a song. It's also fitting for the mascot character of a music game.
  • Nice Girl: Despite her stoic looks, she's a very gentle girl.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship:
    • With Saki. Ichika's the only one who kept visiting Saki after they all drifted apart, even when it took her a two-hour train ride to go to the hospital Saki was in, and after Saki was discharged from the hospital, Ichika is definitely the one who spoils her the most, always trying her best to fulfill whatever Saki wants to do to the best of her ability. In an area conversation, she even offers a piggyback ride to Saki just because Saki believes that not stepping outside the white lines of the road until she reaches her destination will bring good luck, and said line is being blocked by a parked car.
    • She also has one with her SEKAI's version of Hatsune Miku, firstly stemming from her love and admiration for the original Hatsune Miku as a VIRTUAL SINGER. In fact, in one Virtual Live it almost came off as though she intended to confess something to Miku before she was interrupted by the other members of Leo/need showing up.
  • Shrinking Violet: While not as pronounced as with Kohane or Nene, Ichika is shy, easily embarrassed, and lacks self-confidence.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Due to her status as the lead singer of Leo/need, she is invariably featured in every song given to the group and tends to have more sung lines than everyone else.
  • Supporting Protagonist: She's the central character of Leo/need, the group's lead singer, and the face of the group but the character in her storyline that really drives the plot is Shiho, who is in this way the story's Deuteragonist.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pretty much always has yakisoba bread for lunch.

    Saki Tenma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saki_3rd_anniversary.png
There are lots of things we can do that we couldn't before!
Debut Appearance
Elementary school appearance

Childhood Appearance
Voiced by: Karin Isobe
Birthday: May 9 (Taurus)
School: Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy
Year: 1st (until 3rd anniversary), 2nd (present)
Hobbies: Watching makeup videos, making bead accessories
Unique Skill: Hairstyling, beanbag
Favorite Food: Snack food
Disliked Food: Rice porridge
Bad with: Being alone

Saki is a bright and cheerful mood-maker who never stops smiling. She couldn't attend middle school due to her weak body, but now she's healthy enough to attend high school. She is the keyboardist for Leo/need.

  • Broken Bird: In No seek, No find, we find out that Saki was this during her middle school years due to her condition keeping her from living a normal life. This is reflected in her "Abyss of Memories" card, as she is surrounded by all of the things she never got to experience while hospitalized, such as going to school trips or being able to play tennis.
  • Childhood Friends: Outside of her friendship with Leo/need, she's also been acquainted with Vivid BAD SQUAD's Toya since childhood, due to her mother being Toya's piano teacher. And while their relationship isn't as pronounced as the one she shares with Leo/need, the event Never Give Up Cooking! makes it clear that she thinks fondly of the time they spent together as kids.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • She's very close to Rin and treats her like another best friend due to their similarly fun-loving and energetic personalities and shared interests in fashion and sampling snacks. In "A Tomboyish Melody", she tries to get through some of her "List of 100 Things to Do Once I'm Back in School" with Rin, thinking that the rest of Leo/need wouldn't be up for it but knowing that Rin would be.
    • Forms one with Wonderlands X Showtime's Emu for similar reasons to Rin. Both are sweet, energetic and fun-loving girls who serve as The Heart of their groups and are directly associated with many of the same characters even before becoming friends themselves.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her eyes are pink, like the tips of her hair.
  • Delicate and Sickly: She was bedridden for most of her middle school years, and she still has a weaker constitution than most, easily developing fevers whenever she pushes herself too much. She also still struggles to eat normal-sized portions, according to the "Let's Go Eat Together!" comic.
  • Fangirl: She's a big fan of Airi, having seen her on variety shows when she was hospitalized. She becomes both excited and flustered to have Airi at her house in Secret ♡ Operation Valentine's Day.
  • The Fashionista: Has an interest in fashion and makeup.
  • Foil: She is pretty much the polar opposite to Shiho; whereas she is introverted, very serious and never afraid to voice her disdain towards those who anger her, Saki is a super cheerful and fun-loving extrovert who is just about never shown to hold a grudge; the two also frequently bicker due to their differences in work ethics.
  • Genki Girl: Despite her ill health, she is cheerful and friendly.
  • Girl Group: In the alternate version of Shibuya introduced in the April Fools' Day 2022 event, she founded the girl group Aoharu/friends with the hopes of making a lot of new high school memories. Like in the main universe, she's the synth player of the group.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: She has a fondness for stuffed animals and is one of the three characters Toya gives stuffed animals he can't take home to, passing them onto her through her brother Tsukasa.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Her (mostly) blonde hair reflects her cheerful and innocent nature.
  • The Heart: Saki serves this role for the entire group. She's the most upbeat and energetic of the four, and because she's the only one who seems unaware that the other three had a falling out some time ago, she drives Ichika to help her bring their friends back and form the band of their dreams.
  • Hidden Depths: It's revealed in a menu dialogue that Saki likes to get her summer homework out of the way early so she can have more time to enjoy herself.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Early in Leo/need's story, because she was hospitalized for a good portion of her middle school years, Saki wasn't aware of how her other childhood friends had a falling out before and only was able to be reacquainted with her friends again when she entered high school.
  • Morality Pet: A downplayed example due to still being treated the same as her other friends and them consistently butting heads, but she's one to Shiho. She's ultimately the reason Shiho returns to their group and is often the reason Shiho will tone down some of her more stern and aloof tendencies towards them as well.
  • Mundane Object Amazement: Because she missed out on middle school, she gets excited over basic school activities such as sports days, and the idea of the Senpai-Kohai dynamic.
  • The Nicknamer: She has a nickname for each of her childhood friends, except for Shiho, who threatened to end their friendship over her proposed nickname.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: Spoken almost word for word in No seek, No find. We find out that this is how she felt during her middle school years when she was in the hospital. Made even more heart-wrenching due to Isobe's performance where Saki tearfully proclaimed how much she hated that she felt she was being left behind because her being ill meant that she was unable to do things like go on trips, hang out with her friends, and participate in clubs.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: With Ichika. While Saki is very affectionate to all of her childhood friends, regularly giving them hugs and the like, she seems closest to Ichika, probably because Ichika was the one who kept visiting her in the hospital and was in the same class as her during their first year of high school, thus preventing the two from ever drifting apart. According to Leo/need relationship chart and her birthday card side story, she thinks of Ichika as the person who is always by her side.
  • Quirky Curls: Has curly hair and is the perkiest and most fun-loving member of Leo/need.
  • Secretly Selfish: Resonating With You reveals that she was originally not as serious about going professional despite knowing it was what Shiho wanted because she knew it would mean cutting back on hanging out with her friends and experiencing the things she missed out on while she was hospitalized. By chapter 7, after thinking over what Shiho said to her, she firms her resolve to become more serious about going professional so that she can continue being in the band with her friends.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Doted on both by her big brother and her friends, with the latter admitting that they tend to spoil her, but she's still cheerful and good-natured.
  • Stepford Smiler: Even when she was sick and hospitalized, she always had a bright smile for her family and friends when they came to visit her, despite the amount of pain she was in. She was also keenly aware of the time she lost there, leading her to become obsessed with making up for it after being released, pushing herself to get in as much time and experiences with her friends as possible in fear of losing the chance should she end up in the hospital again. The rest of the group was none the wiser until Stella After the Rain.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Of all the related characters in the main cast, she looks the most like her older brother Tsukasa Tenma. The only differences in their appearances are her hair being a lighter shade of blonde and her eyes/gradient being a bright pink instead of reddish-orange like Tsukasa's.
  • Technician vs. Performer: The Performer to Shiho's Technician. Saki tends to have more fun with her playing, often doing little dances while she performs and is even able to take on part of the songwriting endeavors because of it. While her energy means she keeps things fun, it's shown that her technical aspect falls short during practice.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Snacks, especially potato chips. She also has a fondness for bubble tea.

    Honami Mochizuki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/honami_3rd_anniversary.png
I feel like I managed to help everyone move forward a little.
Debut Appearance
Elementary school appearance
Voiced by: Reina Ueda
Birthday: October 27 (Scorpio)
School: Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy
Year: 1st (until 3rd anniversary), 2nd (present)
Hobbies: Walking the dog, kitchen garden
Unique Skill: Housework, swimming
Favorite Food: Apple pie
Disliked Food: Cheese
Bad with: Drawing

Honami is an honor student who's smart, athletic, and really kind. She is childhood friends with Ichika, Saki, and Shiho, but now she has become estranged from them. She is the drummer for Leo/need.

  • Academic Athlete: She is both smart and athletic. In a Q&A, it's also confirmed that she's the fastest runner in Leo/need because she excels in both academics and physical activities.
  • The Ace: She excels in both academics and physical activities.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Saki calls her "Hona" ("Hona-chan" in Japanese).
  • All Drummers Are Animals: Averted. She may be Leo/need’s drummer, but she’s sweet as pie and the closest thing Leo/need has to a Team Mom.
  • Bullied into Depression: She was bullied in middle school because she had a tendency to befriend and show sympathy for people in different friend groups and avoided picking sides, to the point that she was accused of sucking up to others to avoid being hated. She was subsequently treated as an outcast in her class. This leads her to specifically avoid it the next year by hanging out exclusively with a single, small friend group, not wanting to be bullied again by her new classmates, and start avoiding her childhood friends who were put in different classes. She becomes wary of her current friend group, constantly worrying about being excluded if she makes a mistake. In one of Kanade's cards' side stories she has admitted to Kanade that she has wanted to "disappear" before.
  • Commonality Connection: In the 2022 April Fools' Day events alternate version of Shibuya, she joins the group Fellow Hobbyists on Days Off. which was founded by Mizuki with the intention of hobbyists coming together to discuss and share their interests with like-minded individuals. The other members of this group are Minori and Nene.
  • The Confidant:
    • To Kanade. While Kanade doesn't share all of her worries and troubles with Honami, she does tell her quite a bit, and sometimes she even asks Honami for advice on troubles she hasn't shared with the rest of N25. For example, while not saying any names, Kanade turns to Honami on what she could do to know a friend better when that friend doesn't even know herself. Honami gives advice whenever possible and even occasionally helps nudge Kanade in the right direction, such as giving her tickets to the doll exhibit, and Kanade trusts her so much that when Honami eventually finds out that Mafuyu had been staying with Kanade, Kanade privately confesses to Mafuyu that she's glad Honami find out.
    • To a lesser extent, she also became one to Mafuyu after she ran from home and stayed with Kanade, as Honami became the first person outside of N25 whom Mafuyu could completely drop her mask off and just be herself.
  • Cool Big Sis: Played with; while not blood-related, she serves as Kanade's housekeeper on her off hours so Kanade can focus on composing. In addition to cooking for Kanade and doing her household chores, she provides Kanade with much-needed psychological support and is one of Kanade's few confidants after her father's accident. The twist here is that Honami is younger than Kanade.
  • Enmity with an Object: Ever since drawing bad fortunes from the omikuji in SEKAI Happy New Year!, she's developed something of a rivalry with it, becoming uncharacteristically passionate about getting 'revenge' on it the next time they visit the shrine in The Tomorrow We Hope For.
  • Expy: To Saya Yamabuki from the Bandori franchise; both are not only the drummers for their respective groups, but they also both serve as their bands' Team Mom figure, both have a strong affiliation with baked goods (Honami may not work at a bakery run by her family, but her love for apple pies is basically one of her most prominent traits), and both are even the last members to join their bands. Honami also bears a resemblance to Saya, as they both have slightly curled pale reddish-brown hair, blue eyes, and a ponytail, though Honami's ponytail is tied to the side and her bangs are cut slightly differently.
  • Extreme Doormat: Her desire to be kind to everyone, and fear of being hated, lead her to be this at first. Her first few event stories revolve around her learning that kindness isn't just about being passive and going along with what those around her want, but also being firm and speaking her mind when need be.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: She's the sweet mom of her friend group and cooks for Kanade as her part-time housekeeper.
  • Grew a Spine: The focus of her Character Development is learning to stop being an Extreme Doormat.
  • Innocently Insensitive: A side effect of her unwillingness to pick sides, which is made apparent when Saki reluctantly tries to cut ties with her with the belief it's what's best for her situation, but it only results in her getting emotionally hurt. This leads to Shiho criticizing her, pointing out that her unwillingness to stand up for herself in fear of getting hurt has only hurt her friends in return.
  • The Leader: She became the group's official leader during the The Courage to Lead, the Kindness in My Heart event.
  • Mirror Character: To Mafuyu. Both are Academic Athlete honor students who are relied on by their classmates; Honami's 1* card name (The Kind Honor Student) is similar to Mafuyu's (The Honor Student); Honami loves to take care of people and wants to work at a nursing home, while Mafuyu originally wanted to become a nurse; both are also close to Kanade, even meeting her at around the same time (which was 2 years ago). Honami is basically a look on how Mafuyu might end up if she had people that helped to remind her who she is and prevented her from going down the path she ended up taking.
  • Mistaken Age: Her motherly behavior makes her seem older than she is, as Kanade was surprised to learn that Honami is younger than her.
  • Neutrality Backlash: The reason for her drifting away from her Childhood Friends was bullying as a result of her not wanting to pick sides and getting accused of being a people-pleaser.
  • Nice Girl: Honami is extremely caring and gentle, sometimes to her detriment, as she struggles to assert herself or handle conflicts because she doesn't want to upset anyone.
  • Ojou Ringlets: Her side ponytail is styled like this.
  • Out of Focus: As of December 2022, she's gone the longest of any non-Virtual Singer in the game without a focus banner, as her last focus banner, Putting Feelings Into Words, was in November 2021, over a year ago.
  • Running Gag: Constantly pulling bad luck fortunes when visiting the shrine for New Years'.
  • Secret-Keeper: In "The Heart That I Picked Up" card story, Honami found out that Mafuyu had been staying with Kanade, and she's trusted by both Kanade and Mafuyu not to reveal it to anyone else; indeed, when Shiho noticed that she's buying a lot of groceries despite only doing housekeeping for Kanade in an area conversation, Honami merely says that a friend of Kanade had been coming over a lot lately.
  • Secretly Selfish: Though she's the most openly kind and caring member of Leo/need, in their unit story she avoids her childhood friends due to a decision she made to only associate with a few of her own classmates out of fear of being seen as "trying to be on everyone's side" and ending up getting hurt again. Shiho calls her out on this, leading her to rethink her priorities.
  • Ship Tease: Gets a bit with Kanade. While Honami is technically just her housekeeper, whenever she visits, she not only cleans Kanade's home, but also cooks, bring snacks and flowers with her, and brews tea; Kanade for her part takes one of her few rare breaks whenever Honami visits, taking the time to chat and relax with her. When Kanade describes her relationship with Honami in a 4-koma, Mizuki remarks that they sound more like a couple who've been married for 20 years. They were also the central characters of the 2023 Wedding-themed event, wherein they attended a bridal exhibition and had to wear wedding dresses and say vows to each other as part of the experience.
  • Stepford Smiler: In Leo/need's story, she forces herself to act content and goes along with whatever her current friends suggest at the cost of her friendship with Ichika and the others.
  • Sweet Baker: Enjoys baking and is very sweet-natured.
  • Tareme Eyes: Her eyes droop at the corners, befitting her gentle personality.
  • Team Mom: She's certainly the most motherly of the four. An event story reveals that she treats Kanade in much the same way.
  • Terrible Artist: Honami cannot draw if her life depended on it. Ena winds up tutoring her in the ways of art in the Paint What You Love♪ Rainbow Canvas event, only to discover (to her horror) that literally anything that Honami draws eventually devolves into what can only be described as either incomprehensible black mass or human entrails, regardless of how much prior assistance she is given.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Nine times out of ten, if a scene with her involves food in any way, it will be apple pie.
  • Weight Woe: Becomes insecure when Saki says she's "soft and huggable" while hugging her, and she sometimes worries about gaining weight as a result of her love for apple pies.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Unfailingly polite and gentle, the most nurturing of her friends, and enjoys performing domestic chores enough for her to take up a part-time job doing them for Kanade.

    Shiho Hinomori
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shiho_3rd_anniversary.png
Let's make this performance a great one, everyone...
Debut Appearance
Elementary school appearance
Childhood appearance
Voiced by: Yuki Nakashima
Birthday: January 8 (Capricorn)
School: Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy
Year: 1st (until 3rd anniversary), 2nd (present)
Hobbies: Watching her favorite girl band perform live, practicing the bass
Unique Skill: Calligraphy
Favorite Food: Ramen, hamburgers
Disliked Food: Tofu
Bad with: Her sister

Shiho is the lone wolf type who dislikes interacting with people. She immerses herself in her hobbies and doesn't care about what others think. She is the bassist for Leo/need.
  • Affection-Hating Kid: Rejects affectionate gestures, both from her sister Shizuku and from Saki.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Was bullied for being antisocial. Shiho's friendship with Ichika leads others to assume Ichika is the same as Shiho and gossip about her as a result. To protect her, Shiho distanced herself from Ichika as well.
  • Aloof Little Sister: She tells Shizuku not to talk to her at school, and she generally acts cold and dismissive towards her.
  • Boyish Short Hair: She has the shortest hair of anyone in the female cast, which matches up with her tomboyish personality.
  • Break Her Heart to Save Her: What she thought she was doing for Ichika (and Honami) when she broke off their friendship as she didn't want people thinking ill of her friend for hanging out with her. This was thankfully resolved during the main story.
  • Brutal Honesty: She says what she thinks, sometimes accidentally hurting others in the process.
  • Bunnies for Cuteness: Though she loves cute animals in general, she is especially associated with rabbits, having one as a virtual pet and making rabbit-shaped dango as a child.
  • Commonality Connection: Bonds with KAITO from That Day, the Sky was Far Away onwards due to their introversion, passion for music, and mutual respect for each other's personal space. One of their Kizuna Rank titles is even "I'm glad I met You".
  • Cuteness Proximity: She has a big soft spot for cute animals, to the point where she can't bring herself to throw the balls for the ball toss game in the Run! Sports Festival! Committee Rush event because they had cute animal designs on them.
  • Deuteragonist: Somewhat downplayed given the game's Ensemble Cast, but while Ichika is squarely the group's protagonist, Shiho is the one who drives the group's overarching plot to become professional musicians. It becomes much more apparent after the group's main story, where this goal take center stage.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: According to Saki, she's Spartan during their band practice.
  • Easily Embarrassed Youngster: The reason she rejects Shizuku and Saki's affections and hides her softer side, such as her love for virtual pets.
  • Easily Forgiven: For better or for worse, she's one of the major driving forces of Leo/need's story. This often results in her being responsible for many of the more drama-filled parts of their story. Despite that, her friends quickly forgive her because they care about her.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: She hates the nickname "Shii" ("Shii-chan" in Japanese) that her sister Shizuku uses so much that she threatened to end her friendship with Saki when she tried to adopt it when they were younger. Rin also almost gave her one in "Shiho-pyon" (or "Shihoppy"), but she immediately rejected it.
  • Female Rockers Play Bass: Granted Leo/Need is an all-girl group, but still...
  • Flat "What": When she's pulled into SEKAI for the first time and Miku tells the group the only way they can leave is to perform a song together, this is her reaction.
  • Guilty Pleasure: Phenny-kun, and other cute mascot characters.
    • Also virtual pets, initially trying to hide the fact that she was playing with one from Minori.
  • Hates Wearing Dresses: As one of the more tomboyish girls, a few area conversations at the shopping mall have her express annoyance towards the idea of wearing girly clothes, and an official illustration for the game's first anniversary has Shizuku attempt to make her try on frilly pink outfits, much to her chagrin. That being said, in the 2022 April Fool's event, she doesn't complain about wearing a frilly idol outfit as a member of YUME YUME JUMP!
  • Height Angst: In her Brand New Style card story, she tries to find ways to make herself taller after Saki surpasses her in height, despite feigning indifference to the situation.
  • Hypocrite: In the main story, she calls Honami out for not thinking about how much her indecisiveness and avoidance was hurting her friends. Yet, in middle school, Shiho did the same thing (though for different reasons) and when confronted about it, she brushed it off.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: That said, Honami did ultimately agree with her and reassessed her priorities afterwards because of it.
  • Idol Singer: In the alternate version of Shibuya introduced in the April Fools' Day 2022 event, she becomes a trial member of the idol singer group YUME YUME JUMP!, performing alongside the group's other members Shizuku, An, and Kanade.
  • It's All About Me: She has shades of this due to her determination to become a professional musician no matter the cost and being the most experienced musician in Leo/need. During the Resonating With You event, she nearly completely falls into this when given the opportunity of a lifetime to become the lead bassist of STANDOUT, a professional band who at the time was in need of a new one after their old bassist quit. Shiho's desire to become a professional musician, which meant leaving her band and spending less time with her friends, effectively trumped her desire to be with them thus resulting in the main conflict of them deciding if they wanted to join her on her path or not.
  • Jerkass Realization: Has one in the main story after she goes too far when confronting Honami. While not necessarily wrong in what she said, Shiho ended up being unnecessarily harsh, insulting her in the process and making her cry. Shiho acknowledges this after the exchange, wondering why she can only say hurtful things.
  • Jerkass to One: While she's pretty cold and aloof to virtually everyone, she particularly resents being doted on by her older sister Shizuku and tends to rebuff her advances.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Shiho is noted to be very aloof and is even shown to be harsh to many people, regardless of if they're her friends or not. However, she does care about those close to her and is shown to be a decent person underneath it all.
  • Lead Bassist: Shiho is the most skilled at music of anyone in the group, with the others regularly seeking her input. Her dream to become a professional musician is also the biggest driving force of the group.
  • Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold: How Ichika describes her at one point as she likes to be alone and do her own thing. This has negative consequences because her classmates started talking badly about her when Shiho would reject their invitations. Shiho herself didn't mind the comments, but once the classmates' remarks extended to Ichika, who still hung out with Shiho at the time, Shiho distanced herself from Ichika and the others so her classmates wouldn't speak badly of them, hence why she was estranged from them in Leo/need's story.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Her no-nonsense approach to music has caused her to be directly and indirectly responsible for Saki pushing herself too hard which sometimes results in her falling ill.
  • Never My Fault: Downplayed, but a big reason Shiho was not liked by her classmates in addition to her being asocial was due to her abrasiveness towards them when interacting (regardless of if it was deserved or not) and her inability/unwillingness to compromise. The former especially would also cause their negative opinions to piggyback onto those she hung out with. While Shiho understands this, and even acknowledges that she's unable to yield to others and could handle things better, she doesn't fully accept her side of the issue and deflects it.
  • Not So Above It All: She's a big fan of Phoenix Wonderland's mascot, Phenny, who induces Cuteness Proximity in her. An Area Conversation reveals that she even nicknamed the Phenny-kun plushies in the School SEKAI based on their colors.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Shiho has a tendency to keep to herself and speak with her actions. While those close to her can, for the most part, discern her intentions, this isn't always the case.
    • One such example is this being the source of her falling out with Ichika and to a lesser extent, the rest of the band. While Shiho intended to distance herself so Ichika would not bear any of her classmates' rude comments, her not communicating with Ichika resulted in the latter thinking that she had been responsible for their estrangement all these years, believing she had made Shiho hate her and causing her guilt for something she wasn't responsible for.
    • This also comes back in the event Resonating With You. Despite her desire in wanting to become a professional musician with her friends, she never previously told them this and she assumed they had the same goals as her rather than discussing it with them. Upon realizing that they weren't initially planning to go pro, she starts to seriously consider an offer from Iori, the leader of STANDOUT, to join their band. Iori extending this offer to her is how the rest of Leo/need find out about her dream.
    • Invoked in That Day, the Sky Was Far Away which focuses on her time in middle school after she distances herself from her friends. In order to make sure they would no longer be associated with her, Shiho outright told Ichika that she didn't need to explain herself pushing her (and Honami) away and stuck to it until the main story.
  • Pride: If there's one thing Shiho has a lot of, it's pride. While not a bad thing in and of itself, her pride is one of the things that makes her both inflexible and unwilling to ask for help even when she needs it. It basically takes nothing short of someone continuously hounding her for her to yield and even then it's not by much.
  • Serious Business: Band practice, and playing music in general which has caused conflicts in the past for her when confronted with those who only do music as a hobby.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Inverted Trope. It would be difficult to tell that she and Shizuku are sisters if it wasn't outright stated due to the two having different hair and eye colors.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Usually appears cool and standoffish, but cute things in particular easily bring out her sweet side, such as the Phoenix Wonderland mascot and rabbits.
  • Technician vs. Performer: She's the pure technician to Saki's performer. Shiho places a high priority on technical perfection and while this trait is what makes her standout as a bassist, it's also shown that it hinders her in the more creative endeavors like songwriting.
  • Tomboy: One of the most prominent examples in the game. She has Boyish Short Hair, prefers wearing hoodies and pants with her casual outfits, has a big fondness for rock music, and is rather aloof and sharp-tongued in terms of personality.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to Shizuku's girly girl, being a very blunt and unkempt rocker girl who barely has any feminine qualities to her at all; compared to Shizuku, who is an exceedingly feminine and beautiful Teen Idol.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Primarily leans on the tomboy side, but she has a secret love for cute things that she often hides due to being judged on it not fitting her cool appearance.
  • Tough Love: How she approaches those she cares about.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Ramen. The first Petit SEKAI episode revolved around her ascending from eating delicious ramen.
  • Tsundere: She can be tough on the people she cares about, and is bashful about expressing her more tender emotions, often changing the subject whenever someone else points them out.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Flashbacks show that she used to be very sweet and attached to her big sister.
  • Used to Be More Social
