Super Mario Bros. characters:note

    Mario and Luigi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mario_and_luigi.png

Mario and Luigi, of course, are the main protagonists of the Super Mario Bros. series and, considering the franchise's recognizability with GoAnimate's Periphery Demographic of kids, make frequent appearances in the grounded videos, ranging between being recurring extras, victims of trouble-makers, or occasionally as main characters in their own videos. Mario is voiced by Brian.

  • Accent Adaptation: Despite the brothers canonically having a strong Italian-like accents, many users tend to give them completely different accents for unknown reasons. Often, Brian (British) is used for Mario, and Steven (American) for Luigi.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Canonically, they are the Mushroom Kingdom's biggest heroes. In the grounded videos, more often than not they can't even put up a fight against and are easily defeated by prepubescent children.
  • Big Little Brother: Like in the actual franchise, Luigi is occasionally rendered by certain users to be taller than his older brother Mario.
  • Butt-Monkey: Whenever they fall victim to the troublemaker's schemes.
  • Depending on the Writer: Both in terms of their designs and their actual characterizations. They (and other Mario) characters can be rendered in many different themes depending on the user. (They usually get rendered in Comedy World or Lil' Peeps.) Characterization-wise, they can be the heroes that they are canonically or be the chew toys of the trouble-makers. Additionally, despite being rare, a handful of users (particularly those who are fans of adult media) even perceive them as "baby show" video game characters and make them either trouble-makers or treated like crap by everyone.
  • GIS Syndrome: Some users such as Weatherstar4000video simply render them as their stock image art.
  • Recurring Extra: Viewers with good eyes will often see them in the background.

    Princess Peach

Princess Peach from the Super Mario Bros. series is a less popular character to use a grounding character.

  • Adaptational Villainy: Canon Peach is just the person Mario and Luigi have to rescue loads and loads of times thanks to Bowser. Here, she's just another Jerkass troublemaker.
  • Canon Foreigner: Has invented parent characters.
  • GIS Syndrome: Like many other Mario characters, she's depicted as a photo of canon artwork by some users.

    Curve Bro

A fan-made counterpart of Sledge Bro and of Boomerang Bro created by Weatherstar4000video.

Notable/infamous users:

    BobbyIsPoopy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bip.png

Based on a troll the community had a tassle with some time ago, Bobby is chiefly known for two things; his status as one of GoAnimate's go-to troublemakers, and his love for all things poop-related.

    MacusoperAndLPSLover
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/malpsl2016goanimate.png

A prominent user and character in the 'Calming video' sub-genre, MALPSL is best known for her incessant affection towards Macusoper Busters and her tendency to suffer full-blown meltdowns over even the most minor things.

  • Butt-Monkey: Besides Macusoper, Caillou, Nice Diesel Busters and Boris, not very many people seem to like her, nor are they able to put up with her meltdowns for very long. She also seems to be a frequent target for nightmares, and appears to be especially hated by 'Evil Judge' and Diesel Busters.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: A guaranteed feature of her character, which reliably appears whenever she needs to be calmed.
  • Instant Illness: Can somehow become ill from merely watching grounding videos, to the point that she regularly suffers fits of vomiting.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: MALPSL essentially looks like Eric, but with lurid pink clothing and bright rosy cheeks.
  • Living Prop: Often shows up in other videos as a background character, and regularly appears shocked on screen in "[Character] misbehaves at [Place] videos.
  • Nice Girl: Despite the obnoxious elements of her character, she seems to only want to protect Macusoper and other characters, even if this borders on obsession.
  • Shrinking Violet: To say MALPSL isn't very brave is a big understatement.

    Memy9909
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/180px_memygoanimate.png

The former most hated character of GoAnimate (and for good reason too), Memy9909 is, like Warren, based on a real person.

  • Butt-Monkey: Formerly the most hated character in GoAnimate, with so many videos with him have him being hurt, killed, or something bad happening to him.
  • Fat Bastard: Commonly portrayed as this in the grounded videos featuring him.

    PowerJohn25 UTTP
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/powerjohn25goanimate.png

Another character apparently based on a user from a few years ago, PowerJohn25 UTTP is notable for two things: appearing in videos starring a gigantic cast of random crossover characters, and inevitably wrecking their vacations at various theme parks and resorts.

  • Did Not Think This Through: His spur-of-the-moment plans usually wind up killing and/or injuring dozens of people.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: There's no telling what will set him off.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: No matter what resort or theme park you take him to, he'll find a way to ruin it.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: His "friends" spend most of their time threatening him with various punishments if he acts out.
  • Jerkass Woobie: He may destroy things and misbehave, but when you consider that literally almost everyone he meets seems to be against him, it's hard not to feel sorry for him at least a little bit.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: In most videos he stars in, he racks up a significant body count and invariably winds up annihilating wherever he and his friends are visiting, with the event that causes the total destruction of the place he's in often happening by complete accident.

    Baxter

The former leader of the "Good Users" and Memy9909's "sworn enemy".

Miscellaneous characters:

    Michael Jackson

Whether or not as a cameo appearance or as a recurring character, a caricature of Michael Jackson can be found in a large amount of Comedy World videos. He is often distinguishable by his strangely abnormal body structure (double chin, droopy eyes, contour cheek lines and having two nostrils without a nose structure), large sunglasses, black hair and white suit, based on Jackson's appearance in the later years of his life.

  • Cool Shades: Almost never seen without them.
  • Not Quite Dead: Michael Jackson is almost always depicted as being alive despite his real-life death in 2009. This is even lampshaded in videos where he does appear.
  • Real-Person Cameo: When he is a minor character in videos.
  • Reality Subtext: Strangely averted and inverted, Michael's career, especially in his later years, and the various controversies he ran into are almost never talked about.

    Police officers

Example designs, from KnucklesHedgehog2010's series.

Every series revolving around troublemakers tends to have officers show up in some shape or form; exactly how effective they are is dependent on the video maker.

  • By-the-Book Cop: While their personality often varies from officer to officer, and from video maker to video maker, one thing's always certain; these guys take their role very seriously.
  • Deus ex Machina: Whenever trouble's afoot, the cops will often show up to resolve the plot in a matter of moments.
  • Instant Emergency Response: No matter where the action's taking place, you can count on the police to show up in a jiffy; GoAnimate City must have some pretty impressive funding for the emergency services!
  • Those Two Guys: Often appear in pairs; other arrangements and assortments are also common.

    David and Salli Bro

Curve Bro's parents (or fake parents as depicted by some users).

Stock characters:

    Comedy World
Many of the default character models in the former Comedy World theme are based on both fictional characters and real-life celebrities and politicians who were popular at the time of the site's inception (late 2007). Aside from featuring generic stereotypical characters such as bodyguards and soldiers, among the stock characters are:
