Gloomhaven: Forgotten Circles Characters

    Diviner

Aesther Diviner

Wielding gifts of prophecy and clairvoyance, the Diviner is someone who can anticipate the flow of battle by altering fate to make chancey events more favorable, as well as manipulating rifts of energy impercetable to most, granting boon or bane to those who go through them.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: She has a special ability that allows her to harm enemies if they ever draw a negative modifier. Careful use of her powers can make this happen frequently. The damage itself is pure damage and can't be negated by Shield.
  • Flash Step: She has the new Teleport function which she frequently uses to move around.
  • Geo Effects: Diviner sets up to five "portals" across the scenario map as she goes, though they act more like points of power that can imbue the allies passing through these hexes or harm the enemies that do the same, depending on the character's choice of the ability played. It takes a certain tactical acumen to set them up in locations where they'd be most useful.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: A Diviner called Cassandra is the central figure of Forgotten Circles and is required for the campaign. Interviews with the developers describe the plot as Cassandra's Personal Story, which is why she doesn't draw one. Averted elsewhere; a player is allowed to play a Diviner outside of Forgotten Circles, and they are treated as any other mercenary.
  • I Have Your Wife: Downplayed. The Corruption has Cassandra's husband, Naaret. The team can rescue him ahead of time denying the final boss a powerful card, or if they don't, he can be summoned as an Elite Mook.
  • Luck Manipulation Mechanic: Several of her abilities allow to peek into the decks of modifiers or monster's abilities (which are normally drawn completely in the dark), reshuffle them in the order she wants to, or even remove a particularly nasty card from the deck altogether.
  • Portent of Doom: She is capable of drawing cards from decks to forsee moments of doom, and potentially, delay or even negate them.
  • Thinking Up Portals: She is capable of using her rifts to teleport around, whether herself or others.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: The Diviner uses both The Power of the Sun and the Shadow, using it for her offensive and supporting abilities.

Gloomhaven: Jaws of The Lion Characters

The party from the expansion prequel, Jaws of the Lion. Unlike the other party, this one is given an explicit backstory: They are mercenaries and enforcers of the peace at The Crown and The Lion, the base of operations for the mercenary party in the base game. They collect bills for the proprietor and keep the peace. As the saying goes: "If you cause a problem in the Lion, you get the Jaws."

    Demolitionist

Quatryl Demolitionist

Innovation and invention are the hallmarks of Quatryl, and this one builds her inventions for destruction. With rocket-powered boots, giant mech suits, and huge fists for blunt-force trauma, the Quatryl is known as a Demolitionist for good reason.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: As a Quatryl, she's tiny. As someone built for melee damage, she's a powerhouse.
  • Powered Armor: Her unique item is a powered suit that she created.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: She's called a demolitionist for good reason: She loves destruction. In fact, her personal mission is to be hired for a demolition job.
  • Tricked-Out Shoes: Her unique item is a pair of jet boots.

    Hatchet

Inox Hatchet

While Inox are always valued in Gloomhaven for their strength, the Hatchet stands out in fancy garb both for his own enjoyment and as a draw for those looking for mercenaries. Truly, though, the Hatchet's pride is in his wide array of weapons, particularly throwing axes.
  • Damage Over Time: His unique item, the Barbed Axe, does this to enemies. From the item's name, his foes are probably bleeding out heavily.
  • I Call It "Vera": He can use his special hatchet: My Favorite, for extra damage. At level 5, he can get his new favorite.
  • Long-Range Fighter: He's a throwing hatchet man. He can function in close combat, but he's more frail than the Red Guard or Demolitionist, so is better suited for a distance.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: He's not like other Inox: He loves city life, nice clothes, and fancy living.
  • Studio Audience: There is an audience in the Hatchet's unique mission: They cheer for whom they like. While the Hatchet fights in the ring, the rest of the people are in the crowd, convincing them to cheer for the Hatchet. This gives boosts to combat.

    Red Guard

Valrath Red Guard

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/redguard.jpg
An exile from Jhinda, the Valrath capital, Red Guards are defenders of the capital. This prestigious position is hard to live up to, and even after an unspecified incident caused him to flee, he kept the trademark fighting style with chained sickle and shield to defend as he worked as a mercenary.
  • Blow You Away: He can command a dust devil to sweep enemies away.
  • The Exile: He's been killed out of Jhinda, his homeland. A message from them is what starts his personal mission.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: The villains behind his exile send a golem made of snakes to try and kill him.
  • Stone Wall: He's not the fastest moving, but he is by far the toughest. His special item is a ring that gives him Shield 4 to one attack.
  • Support Party Member: Downplayed since he functions just fine on his own, but he is capable of wrapping enemies up in chains. This allows other party members to do extra damage on their attacks, so it's best if he goes first.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Red Guard constantly uses his chained sickle to pull his enemies towards him, sometimes combining it with other punishing mechanics.

    Voidwarden

Human Voidwarden

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/voidwarden_0.jpg
After a near-death experience with the Void, a plane that causes anything that interacts with it to painfully turn into black sand, the Voidwarden gained insight and power, allowing her to manipulate the minds of others, and offering healing magics, though often with a price attached.
  • Blessed with Suck: She can channel amazing powers, hijack the minds of enemies, and even allow friends to do more than they would otherwise. And all it cost her was the erosion of...one side of her face and one of her forearms up the hand. She can also heal wounds, but oftentimes, they come with bite, such as toxifying the body after use or shuffling a curse into their deck to go with the healing.
  • Body Horror: Part of her body is a little bit...eroded. Due to her contact with the Void. She maintains that watching the Void is part of her duty.
  • Casting a Shadow: Many of her cards invoke Dark.
  • Charm Person: She can channel the Void to hijack an enemies mind, making them move (perhaps into traps) or attack their own comrades.
  • Curse: She loves to inflict her enemies with curses. She can also use her Ward, which poisons enemies next to it and will curse them with Disadvantage if they are within three spaces.
  • Healing Hands: Downplayed. She can heal wounds, but it often can cause harm later, by either poisoning or cursing her allies.
  • Willing Channeler: She can also channel the Void to her allies, giving them bonus attacks. This couples well with her Squishy Wizard nature, since a more powerful ally can do extra damage on her behalf. Her unique robes can enhance this.
