Characters / Global Racing League

Go To

Global Racing League has numerous teams and drivers competing in its race series, hailing from all over the world. Due to how many drivers there are, the Characters page will only briefly touch on each team and their drivers' relevant tropes.

    Tropes Associated with Most Teams
  • Expy: A lot of teams' drivers are loosely (or very deliberately) based on characters from other media.
  • Improbably Female Cast: Many of the current GRL teams employ mostly female driver line-ups.
  • Multinational Team: A number of drivers hail from countries not native to their team's home country.
  • Theme Naming: Not specifically with teams, but a lot of drivers in general are named after racing circuits.

     Teams Returning from Season One

Team Pezzarinho (UK)

A team based in Surrey, United Kingdom, Team Pezzarinho is one of the current dominating forces of GRL; despite their somewhat unusual-sounding name, the team views its professionalism as top priority.

Tropes associated with Team Pezzarinho:

  • Everyone Looks Sexier if French: Sophia de la Sarthe, one of the team's new drivers for Season Two.
  • Hot-Blooded: Katsuo Matsushita, a Japanese competition drifter who would go out of his way to perform a number of stunts, most notably giving one of the track marshals a "double finger salute".
  • Precision F-Strike: "I'M THE FUCKING WINNER!!!" after Katsuo won the Aeternam Euro Sportscar Series in Season One
  • The Generic Guy: William Manor, a typical young driver with not much in the way of experience.

Sapphire Sportscar Tributes (Japan)

A merger between Hanamaki Motorsports and The Magical Maiden's Garage, the resulting team is now known as Sapphire Sportscar Tributes. This Japanese squad are one half pro racing team, one half whimsical madman tuning house.

Tropes associated with Sapphire Sportscar:

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Girl: Maya Arima, who is best known for roundhouse kicking a competitor to held her up during a qualifying run in her karting days. Mixes this with Sore Loser.
  • Broken Ace: Hisui is implied to be one of these.
  • Butt-Monkey: Maya Arima and Kohaku Motegi are frequently on the receiving end of bad luck.
  • Darker and Edgier: Hisui relative to the rest of the non-serious cast.
  • Expy: Specifically of Melty Blood and Tsukihime characters - some more so than others.
  • Race Lift: Maya Arima is an Australian with a Japanese family name. Likewise, Sharon Atlasia and May Yumizuka are Americans, while their original characters are not.

Raiden Motorsports (Japan)

Reviving a former In-Universe name in Japanese sports car racing history, Raiden Motorsports are a relatively small team that have been rising rapidly in the GRL universe.

Tropes associated with Raiden Motorsports:

PWRBand Technica (USA)

After buying out the former Deportivo Automovil Jimenez team in the beginning of Season Two, PWRBand Technica are a new team looking to turn the formerly Mexican-based squad around.

Tropes Associated with PWRband Technica:

  • Idol Singer: One of their new signings, a "pay driver" named Yukie Koizumi, used to be one of these before making her career as a race driver publicly known.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Ryoko, one of the few female drivers under 5 ft tall, is probably this for the team.
