As mentioned on the main page description, the show is anthology esque, with season 2 having a completely different plot and character list than season 1. Season 2's plot hinges entirely on a massive spoiler at the end of Season 1, so Spoil at Your Own Risk.

     Introduced in Machu Picchu

Makasu

Voiced By: Maxime Simonet

The Protagonist, a narcissistic pansexual relic thief/sportsman with preternatural sports skills. Though he seems cheerful enough, as the series unfolds, it becomes evident that he's a barely functional human being socially with many eccentricities and low impulse control. What really drives him to journey to South America on a quest to steal the treasures and attributes of the Incan pantheon?

  • The Aloner: He has no friends, and is no longer close with his family. He does want companionship, but has no idea how to get it; as he says, he doesn't "get people".
  • Asshole Victim: A pretty bad person, but even still, his betrayal at the hands of the God of Tennis and subsequent death by incineration in the sun was just cold.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: In Machu Picchu, when he steals Mama Killa's fertility, it results in him undergoing a radical transformation into a curvaceous female version of himself in a red bikini, though he retains the same gonkish facial appearance, making him more of a Butter Face. However, in some scenes, his face changes as well to that of a conventionally attractive girl. Even the Incan God of Tennis is impressed.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: He casually tells the God of Tennis that, as a child, he used to poke the eyes out of squirrels.
    Makasu: Real serial killer stuff.
  • Break the Haughty: In Death Beat(s), the only way that he's going to be able to make the afterlives go back to normal is to learn how to value cooperating with others enough to get the mythological figures pursuing him off of his ass.
  • Disappeared Dad: His biological father left the family early on in Makasu's childhood, significantly affecting his motivations and ability to forge relationships with others.
  • Drunk On Power: In Death Beat(s), during the Suicide Town arc. He totally misconstrues Dr. Legs' friendship advice and takes the town over.
  • Fan Disservice/Shirtless Scene: In Machu Picchu, we see more of him than we really need to in the beach and hot springs episodes.
  • Fatal Flaw: His greed. The God of Tennis even tells him so. It's highly literal in this case because the God of Tennis uses Makasu's greed to trick him into becoming a sacrifice to revive the dying sun. Makasu absorbing the attributes of numerous gods made him a worthy sacrifice.
  • Freudian Excuse: He blames his father abandoning him as a child being the reason why he likes to sleep with older men.
  • Gonk: In the first season, he's drawn in a particularly unappealing way.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: His character design is based on a sketch of Max that an intern of his made, and he voices Makasu as well.
  • Jerk Jock
  • Kavorka Man: Not being an especially good-looking man (at least not with the first season's art style) has never stopped him from having a long list of ex-lovers, male and female.
  • Lack of Empathy: He's aware of it, but just doesn't care. Dr. Legs has to teach him the value of it.
  • Manchild: An adult that acts more like an easily distracted teenager.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The main point of Death Beat(s) is his redemption arc by learning that he is capable of making friends.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: When he was just eight years old, he got caught breaking and entering into a rich woman's house to steal her dog for purposes of extortion. The cop that the woman called tries to comfort Makasu, who winds up trying to kiss him. Cue spanking.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist
  • White Male Lead

The Incan God of Tennis

Voiced By: Tynan Humphrey

Formerly the French God of Tennis, he moved into the Incan pantheon. He claims that his motivation for assisting Makasu on his quest is because he believes that the Incan pantheon has lost its way.

Bendy Rivers

Voiced By: Ben Rivera

A bespectacled Chilean man who works for Interpol's Spiritual Crimes Division. He has been pursuing Makasu for a long time. Has the quirk of being a sleepwalker.

  • Interpol Special Agent
  • Married to the Job: His devotion to solving the Makasu case seriously affects his relationship with his wife, Sonia.
  • Sympathetic Inspector Antagonist: Bendy has his own issues that make him more sympathetic than Makasu, such as his problems maintaining his family life, and how he just tries so dang hard at whatever he decides it is that he has to do.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: He undergoes a cat-themed maid disguise in an attempt to arrest Makasu. It doesn't work. However, Bendy keeps the getup to acquire a job as a waiter in a cat-themed cafe after leaving Interpol to spend more time with his family.

Bucket

Voiced By: Anna Thomas

A girl who went to the same high school as Makasu. She specialized in shotputting.

  • Expy: Hmm, a girl with pink hair and green eyes who is obsessed with a male peer that is oblivious to her feelings? Could her design have been influenced by one Sakura Haruno?
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: She was obsessed with Makasu, even after his distracting her during a shotput led to the death of her father. This obsession led her to becoming the vessel for Makasu's baby in the US government's efforts to extend the Super Sportsman project.

Josie Ryuko

Voiced By: Robby Rackleff

A bully that also went to the same high school as Makasu, which did not end well for him. He got killed in a home invasion gone wrong, and blamed Makasu for it. He later reappears in the afterlife in Death Beat(s), looking for revenge.

  • The Atoner: He regrets appropriating Egyptian culture with his "Only Ma'at Can Judge Me" tattoo, and trying to get revenge on Makasu.
  • The Bully: He shook down other kids at school for money for his diabetic mother's treatment.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: The only thing that he cares about is his mother.
  • Joisey: He has a strong New Jersey accent in a Shout-Out to how Joey/Jonouchi was voiced on Yu-Gi-Oh!.

     Introduced in Death Beat(s)

Dr. Legs

Voiced By: Jazz Grey

An entity born from the chaos of the universe. She has many fingers instead of the usual arrangement of limbs. Kind, wise, and compassionate, she brings Makasu back to life so that he can reset the Center of All Death, and acts as his mentor.

Tuonen Tytti

Voiced By:

A diminutive, Finnish immortal captain of a boat that ferries the souls of the dead throughout the afterlife. She is in possession of a third breast on her forehead that is perpetually blurred out. Her blood ring lets her summon Yacht Cock, a Pun on the yacht rock subgenre.
