Wilhem "Sword" Ragnvald (GARO the Golden Knight)

Portrayed by: Tomokazu Seki (Japanese), Taliesin Jaffe (English)

Wilhem Ragnvald more commonly known as Sword is Garo the Golden Knight in Vanishing Line. He is searching for the meaning behind the phrase "El Dorado" and elects to remain in Russell City and hunt Horrors until the mystery is solved.
  • Action Hero: He's this show's Golden Knight, so naturally.
  • BFS: While he usually fights barehanded, he tends to summon this to deliver the final blow.
  • Big Eater: A decent percentage of the show has scenes of Sword eating anomalously large quantities of food, to the point that Sophie and Luke have both commented on his eating habits.
  • The Big Guy: Without a doubt, the biggest character in the entire series, dwarfing even some of the Horrors he faces.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Chivalrous? Well, he is an actual knight so...Check. Pervert? Well, he did spend about three minutes waxing lyrical about breasts so...yeah. Check.
  • Contrasting Sequel Protagonist: Compared to other holders of "Garo" who have slimmer builds, Sword is built like a mountain and is much more prone to fighting with his bare hands. He's also something of a pervert and an all-around nice guy, whereas previous Garos (like Leon and Raikou) were much more serious and displayed little to no perversity.
  • Determinator: When he sets his mind on something, he can and will pursue it until it's finished.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Twofold. In his first appearance, after having killed a Horror, he returns to Zaruba and meets up with his date, whose boobs he quickly ogles, showing he's something of a perv. In his next appearance, he treats Sophie to dinner after saving her from a Horror and promises to protect her.
  • The Gadfly: Seems to like messing with Sophie and Luke. A lot.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: His go-to fighting method. Notably, he relies on using his fists in combat most of the time, though he does bust out with his sword when needed.
  • Nice Guy: Sword is the biggest sweetheart you'll ever meet. His establishing moment? Saving a little girl from a monster and then buying her dinner, at which point he clearly explains the situation to her and actually asks for her help.
  • Parental Substitute: To Sophie, who he takes to looking after midway through Vanishing Line.

Sophia (Sophie) Hennes

Portrayed by: Rie Kugimiya (Japanese), Madeleine Morris (English)

At the start of Vanishing Line, Sophie is a thirteen-year-old orphan living at the Katrina Home with Sister in Vanishing Line. She has been on a three-year quest to find her missing elder brother, Martin Hennes. After meeting with Sword and exposure to the makai world, she's determined to become a Makai Alchemist.
  • Action Survivor: Unlike Sword and his companions, she's a normal civilian and lacks the means to properly fight back against the Horrors. She makes up for this with her information gathering.
  • Fiery Redhead: She has red hair, and she's very enthusiastic when not looking for El Dorado or dealing with Horrors.
  • It's All My Fault: When a Horror and Knight attack the orphanage and the latter murders the Sister looking after her, she's a sobbing wreck afterwards and blames herself for the attack happening when she learns the "King" of El Dorado wanted her.

Lukather "Luke" Harden ZELOS

Portrayed by: Nobunaga Shimazaki, Miyu Tomita (child) (Japanese), David Matranga, Erica Mendez (child) (English)

Lukather Harden (aka Luke) is a trained Makai Alchemist and Makai Knight in Vanishing Line. He was trained to be an Alchemist by his mother and a knight by his father. After his father's corruption, he became a Makai Alchemist and partnered to Sword in Russell City.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He witnesses his father's fall into darkness and how he murdered his mother. This causes him to pursue being a Makai alchemist again while nursing a grudge against his estranged father who had beomce the Dark Knight..
  • Dual Wielding: Wields a pair of glowing swords as ZELOS.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Over the course of the show, Luke went from flat-out refusing to speak to civilians, including Sophie, to really sweet interactions with a lonely girl in his solo episode and being a sort of mentor to Sophie after rejoining Sword and co., encouraging her to find her brother.
  • Guns Akimbo: Wields two handguns skillfully in combat.
  • It's Personal: With his father, Knight, who betrayed the Makai Order and murdered his mother.
  • The Lancer: To Sword, much to his chagrin.
  • Took a Level in Badass: While he's been a badass since his introduction in the eponymous episode, Luke's return to the group in episode 17 shows that he has ascended to a whole new plane of badassery. The very end of the series sees him finally take on the mantle of Makai Knight, becoming the new silver knight ZELOS..
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He's cold and aloof initially, especially when dealing with Sword. He starts softening up when Sword saves his ass.

Gina Evans

Portrayed by: Ami Koshimizu (Japanese), Trina Nishimura (English)

Gina is a highly skilled alchemist and femme fatale that occasionally teams up with Sword in Horror investigations. Trained in several disciplines, she's trained as a covert operative, seductress, and skilled martial artist. Usually independent, she tends to handle missions on her own unless she needs a partner to help her complete it. She has her own Madō Car for personal transportation. A hands-on type of person, she prefers not to use a Madō Gun if she dose not have to. She tends to use Madō Bagua Tags, bladed high heels, and hand-drawn spells on missions. While a great beauty, she keeps to herself and only deploys seduction techniques when she needs to. However, the creature seems to be only hostile against Sword. Whenever he's about to do something inappropriate, like admiring Gina's boobs, Mia would latch on her fangs and claws right onto Sword's face.
  • Action Girl: A given since she's a Makai Alchemist, though she typically tries to avoid getting into combat situations.
  • Parental Substitute: If Sword is Sophie's surrogate father, then she's Sophie's adoptive mother.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Large breasts, curvy body and a sultry attitude? Yep.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Keeps a magical ferret creature called Mia in between her breasts. So far, Mia's only job has been to attack Sword when he tries to come on to Gina.

Zaruba

Portrayed by: Hironobu Kageyama (Japanese), Barry Yandell (English)

    Villains

Christopher "Knight" Harden (Bolg the Howling/Silver Knight (formerly))(The Dark Knight)

Portrayed by: Daisuke Namikawa (Japanese), Ricco Fajardo (English)

Chris was formally Bolg the Howling Knight and regarded as the strongest amongst the Silver Knights before he became corrupted for power and became Knight of El Dorado. His wife was Makai Alchemist Adelaide Harden and his son is Luke. He originally had a good life, being a knight and having a family. He would train Luke as a knight to succeed in his title, but he was also obsessed with becoming stronger. While training in forbidden techniques, he turned to the dark side and Chris viewed his family as a weakness and cut down Adelaide to free himself of his attachments. However, he left Luke alive, viewing him as weak. Now a servant of El Dorado, he returns to Luke's life as the Dark Knight, reigniting Luke's rage. While Luke is consumed with vengeance against Knight, Chris is only concerned about serving El Dorado and testing his might against Garo.

In the past, Chris was originally shown to be strict, but a caring father to Luke. He also trained the young man to become a Makai Knight and eventually succeed him as the Strongest Silver Knight. However, he also sought to become stronger, originally seeing it as a means to truly become a protector. This thirst for power led him to eventually fall into darkness and become a Dark Knight.

By the "present day", he is still shown to be corrupted by power, only seeing strength as an important means to living. He is also indiscreet, unsociable, utterly ruthless, enjoys battle above all else, and has also resented the idea of using strength to protect people. He despised the weak and the ones who he sees "waste" their powers for others' sake, the latter because he believed them, particularly Makai Knights, not living up to their full potential.
  • Archnemesis Dad: He's Luke's father and his most personal enemy.
  • Blood Knight: He really loves fighting and desires to fight only the most powerful opponents. When facing Sword, he's elated he has a chance to cross blades with the Gold Knight.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He delivers a vicious one-sided beatdown to Luke, who was barely even able to put up a fight against him.
  • Fallen Hero: Like any Makai Knight that turns into a Horror.
  • Graceful Loser: Takes his defeat at Sword's hands during their final battle fairly well, even thanking him for the battle.

Queen

Portrayed by: Romi Park (Japanese), Monica Rial (English)

Queen was once a Makai Alchemist before her fall into darkness and become a Horror. She later swayed by King to become one of her trusted followers and acts as secretary of GarEden Corporation for Martin Hennes, the designated vessel for King. While most Horrors who followed King are controlled with his powers, Queen holds absolute loyalty and devotion towards King, feverishly vowing to destroy anyone who dares to challenge his will or sully his image and seeing no one as worthy enough to even stand in his presence. As such, she despises Sophie despite King's orders to retrieve her because she causes him "trouble." She also displayed a great deal of confidence to the point of arrogance, she wanted everything goes according to her master's wishes and annoyed by Bishop's more relaxed attitude and Knight's crave for power battle against Garo. As expected from a Horror, she is a notorious adversary for highly trained Makai Alchemists Gina and Luke as well as current Garo Sword.

Bishop

Portrayed by: Kenyū Horiuchi (Japanese), David Wald (English)

Bishop is one of the Three Swords of El Dorado and the one who oversees the city's day-to-day activities, recruited by King himself at one point in the past. In contrast to the stern and serious Knight and Queen, he is carefree and rather shrewd. Unlike both his colleagues who are, for the most part, mindful of their duties and get along well professionally, he enjoys annoying his colleagues and playing mind games with them instead. While Queen displays true loyalty to King and Knight is allied with King solely to gain yet more strength, Bishop is shown to only follow King's orders because he is forced to, so his true motives and goals are unknown.
