A list of characters in Fragments of Love.
Mika Takaoka
The protagonist of the series, a serious and confident young woman.
- Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: A stoic and aloof dark haired girl.
- Broken Bird: Mika's gruff facade notwithstanding, she is still very much hurting on the inside.
- Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: The teachers eventually come to view Mika as being "in charge of Harada".
- The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes: Mika is very good at spotting other people's relationship problems and helping them overcome them—yet her own relationships are a mess.
- Likes Older Women: Mika proclaims to like older women, to the point where she fails to register her prettiest underclassman until the latter addresses her directly. Takako eventually points out that this is because Mika is afraid of emotional commitment and older women are usually okay with brief trysts.
- Serial Homewrecker: Defied. Mika has regular trysts with older women but balks at the idea of doing it with married ones.
- Stepford Smiler: Takako is pretty much the only person who can get a genuine smile out of Mika, while everyone else gets the pained fake smiles that Miyu in particular hates with a passion.
- What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Because of her messed up first relationship, Mika is good at sex, but terrible at love—and she knows it.
Harada
Mika's gay classmate who is incredibly popular with girls despite being not too bright.- Gay Best Friend: Harada is Mika's first (and only) "guy friend", with whom she bonds over their similar sexuality.
- Gayngst: Harada feels like his relationships with other men is something wrong because he cannot tell anyone (except Mika) about them and it weighs on him.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Forbids Mika to hit on Mayu, even though she didn't have any intentions to.
Mayu Harada
Harada's overly-attached little sister who ends up falling in love with Mika, much to her chagrin.- Annoying Younger Sibling: To Harada, though she mainly annoys Mika.
- Armoured Closet Gay: Is visibly disgusted by the idea of her brother being gay... and then falls head-over-heels for Mika herself.
- Big Brother Worship: Harada is Mayu's idol.
- Hidden Depths: There is much more to Mayu than meets the eye. In fact, she almost becomes the Deuteragonist by the end of the manga.
Saki Itou
Mayu's classmate and confidante, who is secretly in love with her.- Can't Spit It Out: Saki seems physically incapable of revealing her feelings to Mayu.
- Incompatible Orientation: Most of the time Saki's been in love with Mayu, the latter has been quite vocal in her disgust for homosexuals.
- Stoic Spectacles: Her thin glasses go well with her serious and aloof personality.
Takako Matsumoto
Proprietor of Cafe Piece which Mika frequents, later her mentor and boss. Very much in love with her roommate Yui.- The Ace: In her school days, Takako has been good at everything and very popular.
- Establishing Character Moment: On their first meeting, Takako saved Mika's life from a traffic accident (which is implied to have been an unconscious suicide attempt) and her heart from a complete breakdown.
- Sexual Extortion: Was a victim of this in high school, when she had to "pay" for Yui's then-boyfriend breaking up with her with her own virginity.
Yui Kudou
An aspiring writer and Takako' Best Friend and roommate, who is secretly in love with her but too insecure to do anything about it.- Yandere: Yui had shades of this in her school years, violently attacking Takako when she falsely believed Takako was stealing her hard-earned boyfriend.
Sayaka Yoshiwara
Mika's former tutor and first love.- The Bus Came Back: Sayaka returns to confront Mika with her past in the final volume.
