The main protagonist of Yo-Kai Watch Forever Friends. He is a poor boy who after losing his mother, sets on bringing her back after meeting his new friends Tae and Itsuki. He wields the Yo-Kai Watch Elder Zero and becomes a major character in Yo-Kai Watch 4.

  • All-Loving Hero: He cares deeply for others and dedicated his entire life to help people and see them smile.
  • Best Friend: He is this to Itsuki. To the point he waited 60 years and remember their promise and didn't hesitate to be asked to be turned into a Yo-Kai when he dies.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • He doesn't take his mother's sudden death well to the point of growing depressed and trying to kill himself to see her.
    • He later finds out that his very first friend Itsuki was Dead All Along and now will have to say goodbye to him until he becomes a Yo-Kai and will meet his friend that later becomes Lord Enma
  • Cheerful Child: Despite living in poverty, he is incredibly energetic and happy.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: His dad already died years ago and after his mom is possessed by a Yo-Kai, she dies in a car accident. However, defeating Soranaki resurrected all of the souls he stole bringing his mother back to life causing a subversion of this trope.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Not long after he loses his mother, he lost his will to live. Fortunately he gets better after meeting Tae and Itsuki.
  • Interrupted Suicide: He attempts to kill himself by drowning after he couldn't take the death of his mother anymore. Fortunately, Itsuki stops him before he could jump.
  • Kid Hero: He's only 11 years old but already fights with Yo-Kai
  • Momma's Boy: He cares deeply about his mother and even got a job in order to take care of her when she was sick.
  • Rags to Riches: As an old man, Shin becomes rich enough to afford his own limousine and staff.
  • Walking Spoiler: Not much can be talked about Shin without revealing an important revelation in Yo-Kai Watch 4.

Shin's best friend and a major protagonist in Forever Friends. After saving Shin from commiting suicide, the two quickly become friends and team up with Tae in order to save Shin's mother's soul and his own sister's soul. He then plots to defeat the Yo-Kai responsible for all these deaths but there is more to Itsuki than meets the eye...

  • Big Brother Instinct: He's very protective of his sister to the point he risks his life and takes on all kinds of powerful Yo-Kai to save her. In fact, he died because of this.
  • Dead All Along: It turns out that he didn't just witness his sister die, he jumped with her and ended up dying himself. A Yo-Kai he met granted him enough life to return to the world of the living long enough to complete his objective. Once he does, he ends up reincarnating into the current Lord Enma.
  • Fantastic Racism: He has a strong dislike for Yo-Kai, especially the ones who possess people. It's justified as a Yo-Kai caused the death of his sister and himself but he doesn't remember it just yet.
  • Reincarnation: He becomes the current Lord Enma after fusing with the son of the previous Lord Enma.
  • Walking Spoiler: Big time. Almost nothing can be said about him without revealing some major plot points in Forever Friends and Yo-Kai Watch 4.

    Tae Arihoshi

The third and final human protagonist in Yo-Kai Watch Forever Friends. She is a girl who can see Yo-Kai and spirits and teams up with Shin and Itsuki after their first encounter. Like Akinori, she too can use Yo-Kai energy to preform sorcery.

  • Action Girl: She can fight plenty of Yo-Kai using her powers.
  • Geometric Magic: She uses magic in various shapes.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Unfortunately for her, while her sorcery is impressive, she's still in training and not nearly as powerful as Shin with his Elder Zero, or Itsuki once he uses the Yo-Kai watch Elder God. It's not helped that she never really gets a moment to shine in the film.
