However, his friends continue to avoid him whenever he appears, as the tea he recommends is always too sour.

  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Bizarre taste in tea, to be exact. He is an avid tea-drinker, but his friends avoid whatever he serves because they're usually terrible.
  • The Dreaded: It is implied in several events that he is this to Wonton. Considering the type of person Long Bao is, this is obviously Played for Laughs.

A gentle lady who's more mischievous than she lets on.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Downplayed. She's not mean, but she likes pranks. Her former Master Attendant on the other hand plays this straight.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her Master Attendant was a bounty hunter who went after Fallen Angels. Initially he treated her well until he found out that she wasn't good at fighting. He then confined her to a barren room while still sending her out to fight Fallens in the hopes of getting some usefulness out of her, leaving her and her plums bleeding and covered in bruises. Her sole companion was a nameless servant girl who was mistreated by the rest of the Attendant's staff because of her clumsiness. Eventually the two of them become friends and Ume gives her the name, Plum. One day after putting up with so much abuse, they decided to run away but do not get far because the MA finds out and sends his underlings after them. Ume decides to use herself as a distraction to give Plum a chance to escape. However, Plum comes back to save her and chasing her is a Fallen Angel which then attacks the thugs. The Fallen then turns its attention to Ume. Ume tries to protect Plum and passes out after fighting. Plum then tries to carry her unconscious body to the next city but is attacked by another Fallen.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Fortunately though, the two of them are saved by Sukiyaki and he takes them to the Red Leaf Pavilion where he is able to nurse them back to health. Upon regaining consciousness, Ume and Plum are reunited. Sukiyaki then makes a deal with them: In return for staying at the Red Leaf Pavilion, they have to work for him as waitresses. Ume accepts the deal as she is happy that she and Plum can be with each other and she admits that her new workplace eventually became more like a home for her. Over time, Plum and a customer fall in love and Ume attends their wedding.
  • The Prankster: Despite being gentle, she's actually quite mischievous.
