Firene, the Kingdom of Abundance

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b5ff6665_3aa3_4b3b_9518_ac4876c00f9d.jpeg

Firene is a philanthropic kingdom founded in the south-west corner of Elyos, ruled by Queen Éve, an advocate of peace and co-existence. It has signed a non-aggression treaty with the neighbouring countries of Brodia and Solm. They possess the rings of the Emblems Celica and Micaiah.

    Kingdom of Firene in General
  • Green Hill Zone: Firene is full of grasslands, which make up the majority of the chapters and Paralogues found in the kingdom.
  • Irony: The kingdom with the most amount of units that are inept with magic are tasked with guarding the two Emblem Rings most associated with magic, Celica and Micaiah.
  • Land of Tulips and Windmills: The country seems to be based on the Netherlands, with a strong emphasis on its lush greenery and windmills and especially its beautiful and colourful flowers. Florra Mill Town in particular is nothing but windmills and flowers. The Firenese clothings are also very similar to traditional Dutch Volendam costumes.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: A tendency amongst characters from Firene, as almost half of the recruits from Firene have a Magic growth rate of zeronote . Alfred's five percent Magic growth isn't much better, either.
  • Martial Pacifist: While they do have plenty of trained soldiers, their culture and official foreign policy is rather strictly focused on pacifism, to the point that Princess Céline's willingness to be ruthless and aggressive is a source of some shame for her. Some in other nations look down on Firene for their perceived weakness, referring to their nation insultingly as "flower land."
  • Tea Is Classy: Firene is a very classy land, and many of its playable characters are fond of tea to some extent. Céline is the main standout, but Etie and Louis also have tea listed among their likes, and Jean's home village also has a special blend that he is noted to enjoy.
  • Theme Naming: All of them are named after different fashion brands:
    • Ève's name may have derived from (Yves) Saint Laurent.
    • Alfred derives from Alfred Sung.
    • Céline derives from Celine.
    • Boucheron derives from the brand of the same name.
    • Etie's name comes from Etienne Aigner.
    • Louis's name comes from Louis Vuitton.
    • Chloé derives from the brand also of the same name.
    • Jean's name may have derived from Jean Paul Gaultier.
    • Jean's father, Sean, likely takes his name from Sean John.

The queen of Firene, and Alfred and Céline's mother.

  • Anything but That!: A deadly serious example of this trope: she's completely unfazed by Nelucce's threats against her, even shooting him a Death Glare that causes him to back off, but the moment Zephia threatens her children and everyone else in the castle, she immediately snaps in terror.
  • Good Parents: She's shown to be an incredibly kind and loving mother towards Alfred and Céline, and deeply empathizes with Alear over Lumera's death, allowing them to grieve in her arms.
  • The Good Queen: She's a caring, pacifist ruler who wants nothing but peace for her subjects.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's a blonde woman who's defined by her kindness.
  • Shipper on Deck: Despite Etie being a close friend of Céline's, Ève assigned her to be Alfred's retainer specifically because the queen thought the two would end up falling in love. They don't, but they get along fantastically regardless.

The second princess of Firene and Alfred's younger sister. She's a kind and innocent philanthropist who always strives to solve things peacefully. However, if push comes to shove, she won't hesitate to fight for peace. She has the sharpest tongue in the army.

Her personal skill, Gentle Flower, boosts the effects of healing items used by allies within two spaces of her by 50%.

  • Advertised Extra: Despite being prominently featured in various pre-release material, as well as appearing on the cover of the Divine Edition release of Engage and having a special countdown illustration posted by Mika Pikazo on Twitter, which all suggest she has a larger role in the game, Céline falls off of the main plot immediately within two chapters, thus giving her the least amount of screentime out of all of the second heirs and the eight royals as a whole in the game.
  • Always Accurate Attack: Has the ability to achieve this with the inherited skill Divine Pulse+. If a unit with the skill performs an attack and misses, it has a chance to trigger and turn the miss into a guaranteed hit. This occurs at a rate of 50%, which is increased by an additional point of percent per point of luck the user possesses. Céline and Hortensia, in their unique classes, are the only two units in the game who can reach 50 luck to gurantee the skill's activation without additional boosts to their luck. This also applies to status-inflicting staves, such as Freeze or even Entrap, provided the target doesn't have an ability to prevent those effects from being applied at all.
  • Battle Ballgown: Her base outfit is a very poofy ballgown. Unlike most examples, it lacks any obvious armor, but is designed with an open front to allow her to run and maneuver more easily.
  • Beneath the Mask:
    • Most of the time Céline will be cheery and bubbly, but a lot of her supports show that she has a lot of anxiety and guilt. She admits to Fogado that she the reason she wanted to get so strong was to protect Alfred due to his illness and when he finally gained enough strength she cried thinking she had wasted her time.
    • Unlike many JRPG protagonists who kill faceless soldiers by the dozens while making quips, Céline is very aware of the cost of taking a life and she mentions that it weighs heavily on her conscience; that being said she can be frighteningly efficient when doing so, as when she hears that highwaymen are raiding caravans and killing civilians, she purposely allows them to escape to their base and orders them wiped out.
  • Born Lucky: Her luck stat is simply monstrous. She not only joins with a high for the time base of 11, she has the highest growth in the game at 50%. Her unique classes also provide a respectable 20% additional growth (compare to High Priest's 30%, the only one higher) in the stat. Between that and her decent speed, once she's done some growing her evasion will shoot through the roof.
  • The Chessmaster: A mild case, but her resolution to the problem of bandits attacking Firenese tea leaf trade routes shows signs of this. Céline hires a new security detail over the traders. She does this not to have them defend the traders in perpetuity, but to coax the bandits into retreat—whereupon she has them followed to their hideout. Upon discovering its location, she orders for the knights of Firene to attack it in force and eliminate the bandits altogether.
  • Childhood Friends: With Etie, in which the Ally Notebook says for Etie's page that Céline was the one who inspired Etie to train.
  • Combat Medic: In her unique Vidame class, she gains access to staves alongside the swords and tomes she could already wield in her version of the Noble class.
  • Commonality Connection: With Fogado. Despite how differently they carry themselves, they have very similar background, and as a result they both understand the stresses that the other goes through, to the point that they outright complete each other's sentences in their A support.
  • Cool Crown: She wears a fancy golden crown with flowers inside.
  • Crutch Character: Celica being locked onto her in her introductory chapter gives her a leg up on working toward Magic +3 and Resonance, giving her magic damage a noticeable boost. This, plus her all around solid for the time bases makes Céline very potent in the early game, and she can still hold her own even after a stronger mage in the form of Citrinne joins. Unfortunately, her merely middling growths and low build don't hold up very well, relegating her to more of a supporting role even if she did well early on.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: She's somewhat of this to Sakura. Sakura was a very kind person who practically bordered on an Extreme Doormat, practically fighting only if directly threatened. She loves Hoshido and her family, and would do anything to protect it... but would be afraid to get her hands dirty. Céline showcases just how this character could easily veer into Good Is Not Soft territory.
  • Death Glare: Gives these off in the battle forecast menu when selecting a weapon.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": In her supports with Etie, she insists that Etie doesn't need to call her by her "Princess" title given how long they've known each other.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • She may really love tea, but she doesn't appreciate it when Louis gets himself hurt just to gather up particularly special tea leaves for her, causing her to lose interest in drinking it.
    • She may be ruthless in her efforts to keep Firene peaceful and prosperous, but she completely draws the line at war, as she makes very clear to her alternate Evil Counterpart in the Fell Xenologue.
Céline: Invading Brodia?! I've never had a more stupid idea. Open your eyes, Céline!
  • Good Is Not Soft: Do not confuse her kind nature for pacifism, as she is more than willing to kill her foes if it means it will bring peace.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's inherited her personality and blonde hair from her mother, as she's a very kind and protective person.
  • Hidden Depths: She has a couple.
    • In her B support with Etie, she says she's handled cannonballs lighter than Etie's specially made, weightlifting teacup after Etie asks her to try holding it.
    • Due to often sneaking off from the Firenese royal castle incognito in search of tea farms, it's a wonder how she can do it so consistently without no Firenese people, commoners or nobles (as Chloé is a noble), making the connection that she's the princess.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Killing those who endanger Firene, even if they're Firenese themselves, brings her neither satisfaction nor sorrow. She will do whatever it takes to protect her people.
  • Implied Death Threat: A mutual and oddly friendly example in her A support with Fogado. They both make it clear that neither of them would hesitate to use violence against the other if it meant protecting their countries and loved ones, which is why they agree that it would be in their best interest to stay friends with each other.
Fogado: Good. Each of us knows what a monster the other can be.
Céline: It’s for that reason that I see any path putting us in conflict with Solm as risky indeed.
Fogado: In that case, let’s stay friends.
Céline: May we find a path forward. Together.
  • Informed Attribute: She's described in promotional material (and in her description above) as an innocent philanthropist, when in reality she's very pragmatic, worldly, and ruthless when necessary.
  • Insult Backfire: In their B support, Céline calls Alfred a "barbarian" out of exasperation over his flamboyant physical labor like digging a well in the ground from scratch after hearing that people were low on water. Alfred takes it as a compliment as a sign of his muscles improving, much to Céline's chagrin.
  • Jack of All Stats: Her personal Noble and Vidame classes have respectable stats in all categories, but her poor personal bases keep her firmly in this category without investment. Shaping her to be more specialized can be difficult unless taken out of her unique classes.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: She fights in a full Battle Ballgown with the front cut out so that she can run more easily.
  • King Incognito: She sneaks off incognito to various places in Firene in search of tea farms. Jean's village seems to be one of her favorite haunts. This is actually how she met Chloé.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Her blonde locks fall to her calves and spreads wider than her Battle Ballgown, adding to her fantasy princess look.
  • Magic Knight: Her version of the Noble class allows her to wield swords and tomes(and is, as such, a dab hand with a Levin Sword). Her unique advanced class, Vidame, adds staves as well, and it comes with Ignis, which gives every attack a percent-based chance (equal to her Dex) to increase its damage by half of her other attacking stat, making both stats useful even if she's specializing in physical or magical attacks.
  • Meaningful Echo: If she kills an enemy, she says that all flowers will eventually wilt, a phrase that she repeats if she dies in Classic mode. In the introductory cutscene to the final battle, she instead says that all flowers must bloom, and promises to be a gentle rain and a ray of light for Alear.
  • Mythology Gag: Céline is the first user of Celica and, like her, is a kindhearted princess who uses both swords and tomes in combat. They both even have brothers that fight on horseback.
  • Only Sane Man: In their supports Céline admonishes Alfred for his one track mind and tries to get him to think up more inventive solutions. Deconstructed in their A support, though: While Alfred's positive mindset allows him to enjoy each day to its fullest, Céline struggles with finding simple joys in her life.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "It's tea time!"
    "You need pruning!"
    "Isn't this your lucky day?"
    "For Firene!"
  • Recurring Dreams: She tells Alcryst that she frequently has nightmares in which Alfred dies.
  • The Red Mage: Becomes this after promoting to her unique Vidame class, which possesses the ability to use staves. She's also one of the better users of Levin Swords.
  • Secret-Keeper: In her A Support with Alfred, Céline finds out that Alfred never actually recovered from his illness, but despite her own reservations doesn't relay the information to anyone else as per Alfred's wishes.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Alfred is boundlessly positive, friendly, and easy-going, but can be thoughtless and has an overly-direct mindset. Céline struggles with trauma and fears for the future and she can also be guarded when her station requires it, but she's tactful, empathetic, responsible, and skilled at lateral thinking and finding sensible solutions to her problems. Assuming they're kept in their default class line, Alfred is purely a physical fighter while Céline is a Magic Knight. In their unique advanced classes, Alfred learns the ability Golden Lotus, which reduces damage dealt to him, while Céline's learns Ignis, which increases damage she deals to enemies.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: She's this to Hortensia. Hortensia considers Céline her chief rival in cuteness, a rivalry that Céline doesn't remotely reciprocate. Céline considers Hortensia's antics adorably precocious and tries to be friends with her, which more often than not just leaves Hortensia fuming in "defeat".
  • Squishy Wizard: Zig-zagged. She's very much not this when she first joins, being able to take a physical hit unlike Clanne, Framme, or Etie, but her physical bulk doesn't hold up in the long term.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She's basically a younger version of her mother.
  • Sugary Malice: She carries herself with a friendly, kind, and dignified manner on and off the battlefield. This doesn't change an iota when she sharply rebuffs Fogado's invitations to spending time together or threatens to become a "merciless and terrible opponent" should Kagetsu threaten the people of Firene.
  • Tea Is Classy: She is a princess who absolutely loves her tea, and a significant portion of her supports are about her drinking tea or sharing a pot with the other character. It's heavily implied her tea drinking is a coping mechanism to take her mind off of Alfred's terminal illness and her inevitable rise to the throne as queen after his death. If given the Pact Ring, her memento gift as a sign of affection towards Alear is an elegant tea seat, which sees daily use between the two of them.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Tea, obviously. Céline absolutely loves her tea, and is frequently seen either drinking it, or discussing it with others in her supports. Part of why she's so attached to the drink is because Céline sees it as a coping mechanism for Alfred's inevitable death.
  • Visual Pun: Céline is a great lover of tea; her Battle Ballgown looks like an upside-down tea cup.
  • What If God Was One of Us?: After their initial encounter in Chapter 4, Céline expresses surprise that Alear is very much like a normal human in behavior, instead of being an allseeing, all powerful being as she initially thought. After a cleared up misunderstanding, they happily accept becoming friends.
  • Who Dares?: When taking heavy damage, getting inflicted with the broken status, or getting hit by an Engage attack, she may let off an angry "You dare?!"

Retainers and Others

    Boucheron

Birthday: 5/11

Class: Axe Fighter > Berserker

Voiced by: Toru Sakurai (Japanese), Joe Hernandez (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boucheronfe17portrait.png

A palace knight from Firene. He's a polite, kind, and tolerant young man, born with a good physique.

His personal skill, Moved to Tears, causes Boucheron to deal 2 more damage when an ally joins a chain attack with him.

  • Badass Adorable: Boucheron is an absolute sweetheart, and can pull his weight in battle with his impressive physique.
  • Blue Blood: He's the son of a Firenese count, which is how he became Childhood Friends with Prince Alfred.
  • Childhood Friends: He has been close friends with Alfred since they were both kids, as Boucheron was designated to be Alfred's retainer from a young age.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Boucheron insists to Etie that there's no secret behind his having huge muscles despite not working out nearly as much as her, that's just how his body is. In-game, his stats match this claim: his strength isn't actually all that high, but he has the constitution and build to match his physique.
  • Gentle Giant: One of the largest of the playable characters and easily one of the nicest. He’d much rather just go fishing and read romance novels than fight.
  • Glacier Waif: Inverted. His giant appearance and stellar HP and Build growths would seem to imply a bulky tank in gameplay, when in fact it's the reverse: Boucheron's general growths are weighted towards Dexterity and Speed more than Strength and Defense, so his intended playstyle is to dish out double-hits with the game's heavier weapons while dodging, rather than striking back with a single strong hit while tanking.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: He uses axes to fight while his fellow retainer Etie is an archer.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: He's the huge guy to Etie's tiny girl, being 6'3" to her 5' flat.
  • Hunk: He's a buff and good-looking guy.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: His innate magic growth is a flat 0, making it impossible for him to naturally raise his Magic stat without items or class changing.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Played with. Boucheron is incredible buff something that most people take note of, however he doesn't have very high strength. What he does have on the other hand is the highest HP cap and Build in the game, showing that his muscles aren't all for show.
  • Nice Guy: He's a good-hearted guy who easily empathizes with others.
  • No Sense of Direction: Let's be honest: Boucheron's internal compass is... not the best out there. If you ask to train while he's in the training area, he'll go out to find Alfred (who's in charge of the training) and will ask you to send a search party if he's not back soon. According to the Ally Notebook, this comes from him often travelling by carriage growing up.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Boucheron's usefulness as a unit is entirely contingent on how lucky you get with his Build stat. If the Random Number God doesn't favor him, he'll have serious trouble catching up to Anna and Panette, who both have a Magic growth and a handier personal skill.
  • Prone to Tears: He's easily driven to tears, which is also his personal skill.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He isn't afraid to get emotional and loves reading romance books, but that doesn't detract from his good natured character.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Scatter like petals!"
    "Say your goodbyes!"
    "My path is clear!"
    "This is going to hurt!"
  • Reluctant Fanservice Guy: He's rather uncomfortable with Prince Alfred and Etie gushing over his muscles and wanting to feel them up.
  • Situational Damage Attack: His Personal Skill, Moved to Tears, lets him deal 2 extra damage whenever an ally performs a Chain Attack that he triggers.
  • Weak, but Skilled: His low Strength growth is compensated for by his incredible Build stat that lets him wield heavy, powerful weapons with little to no speed penalties.

    Etie

Birthday: 10/1

Class: Archer > Sniper

Voiced by: Tomomi Mineuchi (Japanese), Trina Nishimura (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/etiefe17portrait.png
Click to see Etie in Fire Emblem Heroes

A palace knight from Firene. She's a noble lady who exudes elegance. Her personality is positive and active, and she devotes all her time to body-building. She's the best jogger in the army.

Her personal skill, Energized, gives Etie +2 Strength for one turn whenever she uses an item to recover HP.

  • A-Cup Angst: In her Japanese A-Support with Goldmary, Etie admits that she used to want a more voluptuous body like Goldmary's, although she grew out of this after she started working out. She seems similarly envious of Yunaka's curvy figure in their support.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Part of her being a Fitness Nut is for her desire to get a muscular body that is still considered attractive. Her Japanese Support with Goldmary even has both arguing which trait is considered more attractive: toned muscles or large breasts.
  • Badass Adorable: Etie is a short and cute young lady who's significantly stronger than she looks, and can fire a mean shot from her bow.
  • Comically Missing the Point: If she's given the Pact Ring, she'll misinterpret Alear's offer to "partner up" for being training partners.
  • Contralto of Strength: Her English voice is lower-pitched, accentuating her gung-ho and determined personality, and puts her rigorous training to good use by turning the bad guys into pincushions with her marksmanship.
  • Cool Crown: Wears a silver tiara with an orange gem on it. If Etie is given the Pact Ring, she gives it to Alear as a memento gift as a token of their affection.
  • Fitness Nut: Like Prince Alfred, Etie is rather obsessed with building muscles. A lot of her dialogue involves fitness and workout routines. Her obsession is so strong that it's Played for Laughs many times, such as using weighted tea cups when drinking with Céline.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Etie's love for training is reflected in her HP and Strength growths both being a very solid 55%.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Despite her Ally Notebook pages saying she dislikes precise work and anything she can't accomplish with brute force, her dexterity growth is a solid 50%, and her stat cap modifier for Dexterity is +2, the same as her Strength.
  • Giant Poofy Sleeves: For her normal and casual wear, Etie wears a design inversion of these, being big and poofy on her forearms instead of the shoulders.
  • Girly Bruiser: In addition to her aforementioned Fitness Nut qualities, Etie's default outfit is very feminine, featuring laces, several bows, and a tiara, and her interests are noted to include things such as tea parties and she's talented at cultivating flowers.
  • Glass Cannon: She has very high Strength and Dexterity, but only above average HP and middling Defense, Resistance and Speed, making her unlikely to survive more than one attack from any enemy she doesn't kill herself.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: She attacks with a bow and arrow while her fellow retainer Boucheron uses axes.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Despite being absolutely devoted to strength training, Etie's build is far slimmer than that of her fellow retainer Boucheron. Boucheron, notably, doesn't really have any kind of special training regimen and was simply born with his massive build.
  • Holding Hands: In the English version of her A support with Goldmary, the two of them hold each other's hands.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: The tiny girl to Boucheron's huge guy, being 1 foot and 3 inches shorter than him (5 feet tall to his 6'3).
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Her innate magic growth is a flat 0, making it impossible for her to naturally raise her Magic stat without items, class changing or syncing/equipping Tiki's Starsphere skill.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Her C-Support with Yunaka has her inspecting Yunaka's body closely, and states that she knows for a fact that she's stolen something, which Yunaka is rightfully insulted by. She clears up what she meant in their B-Support, as she was going for a pun about Yunaka having "captured her interest".
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: While Etie can be promoted into the Sniper class and can still hold her own in a fight, she will usually be seen as mild compared to Alcryst and Fogado having their own unique classes and abilities that outshine Etie.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Etie stands exactly 5 feet tall, and in her C rank Bond conversation with Leif, he appears to ask Etie about an unearthly noise he just heard. Etie confesses she broke a wall by accident during training.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: In her A Support with Alfred, the two discuss how Ève thought she'd one day be Alfred's queen. They both ultimately laugh it off and find the idea difficult to picture.
Etie: Our bond as prince and retainer is too strong to be anything else.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Scatter like petals!"
    "Get ready for the crunch!"
    "Don't break too easily!"
    "I've got muscles to spare!"
  • Recurring Element:
    • Etie fits well into the Gordin archetype, being the first archer that players recruit in the story, while also falling behind compared to later, more powerful archers. Unlike her predecessors, however, her statline gives her the potential to double down on being a Glass Cannon as a Warrior rather than ending up a Master of None as a Sniper.
    • Statistically, Etie better-resembles the Archer players would typically get as their first replacement for their Gordin, such as Dorothy or Wil, with the "replacement" in this game (Alcryst) better-resembling Gordins in general.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Etie is very fond of potatoes, and bonds with Lapis in their supports about their love for them.
  • You Remind Me of X: In her A rank Bond conversation with Claude, Etie's way of always refining her workout technique reminds Claude of his classmate Raphael.

    Louis

Birthday: 11/4

Class: Lance Armor > General

Voiced by: Haruki Ishiya (Japanese), J. Michael Tatum (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/louisfe17portrait.png

A palace knight from Firene. He's a gentle servant wearing massive armor. He always pays attention to how his friends are faring and seems happy whenever he sees them at peace.

His personal skill, Admiration, causes Louis to take 2 less damage in combat if two female allies are adjacent within two tiles near him.

  • Battle Butler: Although he doesn't do much butlering in game, the Ally Notebook states that Louis is a stalwart knight as well as a courteous butler. In his solo ending, he drops the "battle" part of the trope, as he retires as a knight and becomes the royal family's butler.
  • Big Brother Instinct: In his support with Zelkov, Louis takes it upon himself to look out for the young man, noting that Zelkov reminds him of his own younger brothers, nevermind the fact that Zelkov is actually older than Louis.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Louis dislikes sea grapes, calling them "vile pretenders to the name" in his B-support with Rosado.
  • Due to the Dead: In Louis' A Support with Pandreo, they hold an improvised funerary service for Louis' late mother.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Like Oscar, Kellam, and Kamui before him, Louis does not usually open his eyes. He does momentarily open them in the cutscene where he and Chloé are introduced, when they're about to face off with the Elusian army. He also open them occasionally when he is shocked.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: His personal skill, Admiration, makes him take 2 less points of damage if two female units are adjacent within 2 spaces. This specific aspect of his character was significantly downplayed in the English localization, however.
  • The Heart: Louis is a very emotionally intelligent person, and a frequent theme of his supports is Louis going out of his way to help other people with their problems. Whether that be helping Jade get over her writer's block or helping Ivy be more open about herself or just trying to make Zelkov's day better, Louis is someone who takes comfort in the happiness of those around him.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Whenever he is ready for battle against an enemy after selecting a weapon, his eyes open as intense yellow slits.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: His innate magic growth is a flat 0, making it impossible for him to naturally raise his Magic stat without items or class changing.
  • Mighty Glacier: Par for the course with armor knights. Louis has good strength and excellent defense, but a very lackluster speed stat.
  • Never Gets Drunk: Louis and Pandreo go out partying in their C support. Pandreo is visibly hungover after the fact, but Louis is perfectly fine.
  • Nice Guy: His somewhat strange hobby aside, Louis is a friendly and kindhearted guy who loves seeing his friends happy.
  • Penny Among Diamonds: Louis is the only commoner among the Firenese retainers.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "It's tea time!"
    "What a lovely scene!"
    "I shall dispose of you."
    "Observe your ruin!"
  • Promotion to Parent: Louis's mother died when he and his three younger brothers were still young, so he had to step up to take care of them.
  • Recurring Element: Louis can be considered the equivalent of the Draug archetype, as the first armored unit that the player recruits during their playthrough.
  • Stalker without a Crush: While it's more so "observing" than outright stalking, one of Louis' favorite hobbies is watching other people go about their daily lives. He really doesn't mean any harm though as he only does so out of a genuine interest in others and will stop should he be asked to. However, this hobby does give those not already acquainted with him the wrong idea.

    Chloé

Birthday: 4/27

Class: Lance Flier > Griffin Knight

Voiced by: Saori Hayami (Japanese), Kaitlyn Robrock (credited as Elizabeth Simmons) (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chloefe17portrait.png
Click to see Chloé in Fire Emblem Heroes

A palace knight from Firene. She's easy-going and adores her liege, Princess Céline. She loves fairy tales and pretty scenery and is always seeking a picturesque combination of the two. She has the best throwing arm in the army.

Her personal skill, Fairy-Tale Folk, causes Chloé to deal 2 more damage in combat if a male ally and a female ally are adjacent within two tiles near her.

  • Actor Allusion: This isn't the first time Saori Hayami voiced a pegasus knight in the series, the first one being Caeda from the Archanea games.
  • Adaptational Curves: Chloé's buxom is already pretty impressive in the game, but the official manga increases her size with the angles focusing on them.
  • Badass Adorable: Chloé is a very sweet Nice Girl to her friends and absolutely adores fairy tales and folk food, all while being a very formidable warrior on the battlefield.
  • Big Eater: When fed a well-made meal in the Somniel, she'll ask for seconds, and her idea of seconds is five more plates just for her.
  • Big "WHAT?!": When taking heavy damage, getting inflicted with the broken status, or getting hit by an Engage attack, she may sometimes yell out "What?!"
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Chloé loves to eat folk food, which range from stuff such as grilled gecko, deep-fried snake, and sautéed fish eyeballs. Some of her supports involve her wanting to eat folk food, causing other characters to feel grossed out in response. Though it's also subverted in many of her supports were the person she's talking with ends up trying the folk food and they find it tasty. The note for her memento gift to Alear if given the Pact Ring also has it state that they never tire of trying out new folk foods with her.
Framme: What the heck!? Has eel always tasted this good?
  • Blue Blood: She's the daughter of a Firenese marquis, but she detested the restraints of living like a noblewoman and became a knight so she could escape being tied to her family.
  • Brutal Honesty: In her "Forging Bonds" events in Heroes, she tells Anna that her attempt at "folk food" using imported ingredients not only defeats the point of representing Askran cuisine but doesn't even taste all that good. Anna gets the message and makes a better second attempt.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: In Heroes she gets a "Harmonized Heroes" pairing with Cordelia, and Chloé's voluptuous figure naturally causes Cordelia's insecurity to flare up, causing her to ask Chloé what she eats to have grown so much (This gets Bowdlerised in the localization).
  • Commonality Connection: With Merrin. They both became royal knights of their respective nations sworn to the service of their nation's princess by unknowingly aiding their princess who was in disguise at the time. They both acknowledge and bond over this experience.
  • Cultural Rebel: Chloé was born in a noble family, and was expected by her parents to be married off into another family, but she wanted to live the free and open life she saw in fairy-tales. She got this opportunity when she met Céline, who she became friends with without knowing that she was the princess of the kingdom, which Chloé describes as something straight out of a fairy-tale. After this, she began training herself to become one of the princess' retainers to be fully able to seize the life she wants to live.
  • Fourth-Date Marriage: Implied if she doesn't romance Alear, with her ending card stating she met an unnamed "someone" at a food stall some years after the war ended that resulted in a "fairy-tale, whirlwind romance that blossomed into lifelong love."
  • Jumped at the Call: She was perfectly happy to become a knight because as a young girl her family only wanted her to find someone to marry and bear children for them.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Tends to develop into one, with excellent speed and decent strength, unusual for a Fire Emblem pegasus knight.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Large breasts, loads of cleavage, a skintight wardrobe, Zettai Ryouiki, and long teal hair make Chloé very attractive.
  • Navel Outline: Courtesy of the skintight outfit she wears underneath her partially fabric breastplate and skirt/belt combo in her default clothes, her navel is clearly visible under them.
  • Nice Girl: Chloé is so often seen with a smile on her face when interacting with other characters that seeing her sad is quite uncommon, usually after some form of misunderstanding, and the amount of times you see her get angry throughout the game can be counted on one hand.note
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "It's tea time!"
    "Hungry for more!"
" I'm ready to dig in!"
"I've had my eye on you!"
  • Recurring Element: Chloé shares more than just a Japanese voice actress with Caeda; she also follows the trend of 'early game Pegasus Knight with an air of nobility who flies solo and cannot do the Triangle Attack' that started from Caeda herself.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: It's not immediately noticeable due to her long hair blocking it, but close inspection of Chloé's default outfit shows that her upper back is exposed. It is more easily seen in her concept art.
  • Shipper on Deck: Implied to be the case with her personal skill, Fairy-Tale Folk. If a male and female unit are adjacent within 2 spaces of Chloé, she'll deal 2 extra damage.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Chloé's attacks deal 2 extra damage as long as a male and female ally are adjacent to each other and within 2 spaces of her.
  • Team Mom: She has a "maternal sophistication" and often ends up doting on younger party members who in turn find themselves reacting as if she were a parental figure.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: Anything that can even vaguely be interpreted as romantic or dramatic is like catnip to her as she loves fairy tales.
Chloé: Like a princess and her knight...a prince and his servant...oh, or a pegasus and a maiden! So many lovely scenes straight out a fairy tale. I adore them all!
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She absolutely adores folk food, but has a special love for fish-based ones, such as dried/salted fermented fish, pickled fish guts and dumplings with fish liver, just to name a few. If given the Pact Ring, her memento gift to Alear as a sign of her affection towards them is her favorite folk food, which is a fish-based dish.

A Firenese boy who helped defend his father's clinic from Corrupted. He joins Alear's group as a doctor-in-training.

His personal skill, Expertise, grants Jean boosted growth rates upon levelling up.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: Although he's still a doctor-in-training, he's very competent at what he does and knows far more about medicine than the others in Alear's army.
  • Badass Adorable: Jean is a very cute little boy, and is capable of beating enemies to death with his fists.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: His starting class is the Martial Monk, and his actual innate proficiency is Martial Arts (instead of, as you might expect for a healing-focused guy, Staves).
  • Big "WHY?!": When taking heavy damage, getting inflicted with the broken status, or getting hit by an Engage attack, he may sometimes yell out "Why me?!"
  • Child Prodigy: He's a skilled doctor-in-training while still being only 10 years old.
  • Combat Medic: His starting class is Martial Monk, allowing him to heal and fight up close.
  • Deadly Doctor: Lampshaded by Jean himself, who wonders if any of this combat experience will actually make him better at medicine.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: From a more gameplay perspective, he's this towards the Young Soldier character archetype. Many Fire Emblem games have an improbably young character who can perform their function better than adults - and while Jean is one of the ones who can fit this, he's about as durable as a 4'8" ten year old would be - and that's not very. In fact, "Build" is his only stat that won't snowball for him - so giving him heavy weapons means he'll have trouble hitting more than once.
  • Heal Thyself: One of Jean's designated promotions note  is the High Priest, a Red Mage class that can also self-heal with staves.
  • Kid Hero: According to datamining, he fights alongside the Divine Dragon at the tender age of 10. This makes him the youngest playable character in the series with a confirmed age (not including Kliff, who is 8 in the prologue of Echoes: Shadows of Valentia but 15 in the story proper).
  • Magikarp Power: When recruited, he starts very underleveled at a measly level of one when the units recruited beforehand already have a couple levels under their belt, and has a bit of a rocky start with his low base stats and can only use low might fists to fight. However, he possesses the Expertise skill, which doubles his class growth rates, giving him a significantly higher chance of guaranteeing stat increases, so with enough time and effort, he will snowball as a formidable combat unit of his own right. This is taken even further with Tiki's Starsphere skill, which bumps stat growths by 15% and stacks with Expertise, making him snowball all the faster.
  • Min-Maxing: Jean's personal skill lends himself towards this, given his low growth rates without class modifiers and his rather-low base stats. Certain stats can be made to grow at a nearly-unmatched pace for him, notably Luck and Resistance (at 85% and 80% respectively) as a High Priest, Magic (at 80%) as a Sage, Defense and Build (at 85% and 25% respectively) as a General, Dexterity (at 95%) as a Sniper, Speed (at 80%) as any Speed-focused Advanced Class, and HP and Strength (at 110% and 80% respectively) as a Berserker. Jean's maximum Dexterity and Speed growths (unfortunately on different classes) are unmatched in the game, while Berserker gives him ties for first or second in HP, Strength, and Build.
  • Minmaxer's Delight: Jean is very adaptable thanks to his Expertise skill and pairing him with Tiki kicks that adaptability into overdrive thanks to Starsphere. Jean will be hemorrhaging stat growths when combined.
  • Only Sane Man: While being a few years short of the "man" part, no less. Compared to the colorful cast of the game, Jean is unique in that he's the most sensible person in the army when everyone else has glaring eccentricities, genuine physical/mental issues, or both.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Forgive me!"
"This is how I save lives!"
"I know just where to strike!"
    "You won't suffer long."
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Ties with Anna for being the shortest of the cast at 4'8, but can take on enemies much larger than he is with no problem.
  • Recurring Element: Jean is Engage's answer to the villager character with Magikarp Power, following in the footsteps of Donnel, Mozu, and Cyril. What makes Jean interesting is that he starts as a healer rather than a dedicated combat class, making him easier to level up.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: As a skilled and young doctor, he wears glasses, though he wears them on the top of his head most of his time rather than over his eyes.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Subverted. His support with Chloé reveals that he isn't afraid of ghosts, seeing illness and injury as far more terrifying than some spirits. This actually shocks Claude in their Bond conversation, noting how a young child is somehow much more brave and mature than a certain classmate he knows (Lysithea).
  • Wise Beyond His Years: As a doctor-in-training, Jean is quite knowledgeable in the field of medicine, much more so than that of the average 10-year-old kid.
