SOL Technologies

The company responsible for the creation of the Link Virtual Reality Artificial Intelligence Network System cyberspace known as LINK VRAINS. The company is controlled by those named after chess pieces, with Queen possessing the highest-ranking authority in the company.

Following the creation of the New World, SOL Technologies no longer possesses any control over LINK VRAINS and instead makes its profit from the vast amounts of Cyberse data within the network.

    Akira Zaizen

Akira Zaizen

The Brother of the Angel
The Security Manager of SOL Technologies, and older brother to Aoi and Hakuno Zaizen.

Unlike Hakuno, who is Aoi's sister by birth, Akira was made a brother by account of their parents marrying. Despite not being connected by blood, Akira loved his siblings dearly, and following the series of events that led to them roaming the streets, he's done whatever he could to provide them a happy life. Just seeing them smile is enough for him.

After Hakuno Zaizen's miraculous recovery, the Zaizen household becomes noticeably more cheerful, though this doesn't last long as Akira becomes alerted to the existence of Julius B. Harwey and his mysterious connection to Hakuno, who had been in a coma for three years.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He'll do whatever it takes to protect his sisters. Julius found this out the hard way when Akira brutally beats him with pain-enhancing gloves that bypass LINK VRAINS' damage filter. He LITERALLY breaks off pieces of Julius' avatar in the process.
  • Composite Character: Akira created one such card via illegal means, but it was never meant to be used. It's Tindangle Trickster, a Fusion Monster that was made to showcase the bond between the Zaizen family, with the shadow monster acting like a Tindangle monster (Akira) defending two little twin girls (Hakuno and Aoi). It also has an effect similar to a Trickstar Monster.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: After their parents' death, Akira was promoted to Parental Substitute and did what he had to in order to provide for his sisters. This included intensive hacking, made only worse when his employers put a gun to his head and had him work under intense pressure.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Pulls one in chapter 18, using one of his card effects to redirect Gergonne's End at himself, and nearly wipe out his Life Points in the process. In exchange, all of Run Ru's cards on her field are destroyed.
  • Parental Substitute: Following the deaths of their parents, Akira Zaizen has more or less become a young father for the two girls.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Normally, anyone in his position would grill Hakuno for information, especially when it becomes clear that she shares some sort of history with Julius. Akira, however, doesn't and simply waits for her to tell him herself. He also forbids Aoi and Hakuno from logging into LINK VRAINS, at least until Julius has been apprehended.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: He was fully aware that Blue Angel and Aoi Zaizen were the same person, much to Aoi's shock.
Akira: Come on. You think I got to be Security Manager for show?

    Queen

Queen/Akio Pierceman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_vr_6.png
The Ruler in Shadow
The head of SOL Technologies. A woman who is shrouded in mystery, she observes Hakuno Kishinami Zaizen, following her acquisition of the Moon Cell archtype. In truth, she is the daughter of Twice H. Pierceman, the Father of LINK VRAINS.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, Queen had little to no redeeming qualities and was solely focused on the success of her business, more than willing to participate in some otherwise shady practices such as willing to implant Go Onizuka with an AI, despite the fact that it would put his life at risk and killed Earth by breaking him apart into data they could analyze, all the while ignoring his pleas for them to stop. In Fate/VRAINS, she does have a genuine kinder side to her, as she visits her father's grave and wishes he was here for her to speak with, and is very proud of her daughter.
  • Batman Gambit: She allowed Hakuno to continue using the Moon Cell deck, despite the fact that Bishop, Knight and Rook did everything in their power to ensure it was erased, as the deck was made with Cyberse data and Hakuno had the "special coding" needed to access the heart of LINK VRAINS, something SOL did not have. It's possibly subverted with the reveal of her father being Twice, implying that she purposely let Hakuno keep the deck so she could fulfill Twice's dream of LINK VRAINS belonging to the duelists, even at the cost of the company's major source of income.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In the anime, she was always referred to by her title in the company and her actual name was never revealed. This story gives her the name Akio Pierceman.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: She is always referred to as Queen, with her real name being unknown. Her real name is only revealed in the final chapter.
  • Pet the Dog: It's offscreen, but according to Akira, she personally congratulated a senior employee of SOL Technology when he announced he would retire due to old age, and gave him a generous severance package.

The Father of LINK VRAINS (Unmarked Spoilers)

Twice H. Pierceman

The Father of LINK VRAINS
The Big Bad of Fate/EXTRA.

Before his untimely death, Twice H. Pierceman was a brilliant scientist and doctor, said to have the means of curing even the mysterious illness known as Amnesia Syndrome. However, the man had unfortunately been killed in a bombing incident.

As fate would have it, however, Twice's consciousness had become a cyber ghost, chosen to participate in the Moon Cell Holy Grail War. He was also the one who designed the There Can Be Only One system, and was the final opponent Hakuno Kishinami had to face in order to access the Moon Cell. Twice would even serve as the means by which Hakuno had managed to avoid her fate of being deleted by offering her the Regalia.

Unknown to Hakuno, Twice himself had also been transported to the world of VRAINS — several years earlier, in fact. Working at SOL Technologies, he had been the driving force behind the creation of LINK VRAINS, though he had ultimately died young, just as he had before.
  • The Ace: Unlike his fellow Masters, whose strongest monsters are their Servants, his most powerful monster is instead the replica Moon Cell monsters: the Moon Cell Core — The Lunar Ocean and Moon Cell Cortex — The Lunar Force respectively.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Twice wasn't really that much of a villain in the first place in the game, aside from his role in developing the nature of the Holy Grail War's system. He does cement his change to heroism by saving Hakuno by giving her the means to escape the Moon Cell.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Rook, Bishop and Knight discuss how Twice's "experiment" with the Moon Cell archtype is still ongoing and wonder if they should take the cards from Hakuno, only for Queen to intervene and let the girl keep her deck. Kogami adds further speculation to Twice's goals when it's revealed that he created what looks to be a Moon Cell and acts as the "core" of LINK VRAINS, all of which is hidden inside a blackbox that almost no one is capable of accessing — save for Kogami and Hakuno, the latter because she has the Regalia. In truth, the "experiment" was to create an Artificial World and for it to be used by the people who dived in and out of it every day — in other words, LINK VRAINS was designed to be used by duelists, something the higher-ups, barring Queen, wouldn't allow to happen.
  • Ape Shall Never Kill Ape: Inverted. The only thing that can destroy Twice's The Lunar Force is another Over-Link Monster.
  • Archaic Weapon for an Advanced Age: Not to the same extent as Revolver, but Twice uses Pendulum Monsters. In Master Rule 4, the Pendulum Zones were relocated to the leftmost and rightmost Spell/Trap Zones, and with the inclusion of the Extra Monster Zone, their effectiveness to revive monsters from the Extra Deck is drastically reduced. It's particularly worse in Speed Duels, as a player is restricted to only 3 Spell/Trap Zones. That said, Twice showcases how deadly Pendulum Summoning can be even in its limited state.
  • Final Boss: He is the final opponent Hakuno faces in Fate/VRAINS.
  • Foil: To Kiara, in regards to their plans with Hakuno. Twice wanted Hakuno to use the Moon Cell deck to gather the Duel Energy in her duels to help turn the Artificial World of LINK VRAINS into a true, genuine World that would obey only the duelists, whereas Kiara wanted to use Hakuno to gain control of the many Moon Cells in existence so she could absorb all the worlds into herself and create a Singularity. Twice gave Hakuno a choice to duel him and leave the world as it is, albeit in a debilitated state and left for a slow death, while Kiara didn't give Hakuno much of a choice and actively antagonized her.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: The "Perfected Moon Cell" archetype's heavy hitters all have golden armor, save for a notable few.
  • Meaningful Name: Some of his monsters are named after mathematical or dimensional terms, including "Paradox," "Laplace," and "String Code"explanation .
  • Posthumous Character: He's stated to have died years ago, but his "fragment" somehow still exists, acting as a guide.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: While in his previous life he was responsible for the death gauntlet that was the Moon Cell Holy Grail War, he had nothing but the best intentions in his second life in Den City, as Kogami mentions that LINK VRAINS was originally intended with the use of medicinal purposes and military advancement in mind.
  • True Final Boss: Although Kiara is the story's Big Bad and the major villain, Twice is the final enemy Hakuno duels. He also showcases just how powerful he is.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Subverted as his role as a villain had long since came to an end, and by the start of Fate/VRAINS, he's an actual good guy. He's the one responsible for creating LINK VRAINS, initially with the intent of using it to advance medical studies, and as such is renowned as the "Father of LINK VRAINS".
