Masters

    Tamiko Kurosawa

An Ex-barista who is way in over her head and the main character of the story. Despite her total lack of experience, she adapts to the Grail War easily and quickly becomes the de facto leader of Team Red. Her real identity is that of Zahak, given the role of "Ruler" for this War to prevent a proper one from being summoned. Her form is based on a girl who died in the Great Disaster.

She is the Master of Lancer of Red.

Tropes:

  • Anti-Magic: Tamiko temporarily gains this when borrowing Lancer of Red's amulet, granting her Magic Resistance of rank C.
  • Astral Projection: Tamiko has this ability, proving to be a godsend when it comes to gathering information. Tamiko unconsciously taps into Ruler's True Name Discernment for this.
  • Body Horror: After finding who she really is, she proceeds to grow a tail, twin serpent heads from her shoulders and some more familiar aspects from being the Black Grail.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Initially her Projection skills were considered this by Sakura. Later on Tamiko's Monstrous Strength fills that role.
  • Fly Or Die: Tamiko's magecraft usually comes more naturally when faced with immense mortal peril.
  • Horror Hunger: Tamiko feels a terrible hunger that can only be sated by taking in more mana. Either from Servants or people.
  • Meaningful Name: Tamiko Kurosawa means "Many Beautiful Children", and "Black Swamp".
  • The Leader: Naturally falls into this role as she interacts with the rest of Team Red, both assembling the team and making sure they don't kill each other. This is actually Ruler's Rank C Charisma at work.

    Yuko Yamada
Tamiko's best friend and fellow former barista. One of the few survivors of the 4th Holy Grail War disaster, she was adopted by Kiritsugu.

Master of Assassin of Red

Tropes:

  • Good Thing You Can Heal: A regular person acting as she does would've been turned into a smear.
  • Made of Iron: Her Affinity is Steel so she's rather suited for defending. Her Origin turns this literal.
  • Martyr Without a Cause: As expected of an Emiya clone.
  • Power Tattoo: Gets these after foiling Assassin's mana gathering scheme to make up for her poor Magic Circuits. However, this causes her to essentially light up like a beacon to any being capable of sensing mana.
  • The Champion: Do not harm Tamiko.

    Shinji Matou

The estranged heir of the Matou family, he was unfortunately born without Magic Circuits, leaving him unable to perform magic and thus qualify as a Master. Nonetheless, he managed to overcome this by ingesting the Matou Crest Worms at the cost of his health. Unlike in canon, he is not a rapist here.

Master of Rider of Red.

Tropes:

  • Non-Action Guy: He has no combat skills whatsoever.
  • Odd Friendship: Forms one of these with Alfons, bonding over their shared low lifespans.
  • Power at a Price: Everytime he uses magic, the worms inside him writhe about a little bit more.

    Alfonsviel Von Einzbern
Master of Berserkers of Red.

Tropes:

  • Odd Friendship: Forms one of these with Shinji, bonding over their shared low lifespans.

    Miyu Edelfelt
A homunculus created by the Atlas institute from the genetic material of the Edelfelt family and Luvia's "sister".

Master of Caster of Red.

Tropes:

Servants of Red

    Archer of Red

Servant of Jacob Taylor

True Identity: Robin Hood

Tropes:

  • Anti-Magic: His Magic Resistance clocks in at D+, lowest there is but still counts.
  • Master Archer: He is an Archer-class Servant and one that actually relies on a bow.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: His Yew Bow: Supplication and Accord Noble Phantasm manifests as this.

    Rider of Red

Servant of Shinji Matou.

True Identity: Elizabeth the First

Tropes:

  • Born Lucky: Her Luck stat has a high rank of EX.
  • Cast from Money: Profligate Pillager allows her to use money and treasure as a substitute for mana. As her Master is Shinji, this is quite vital.
  • More Dakka: Her Noble Phantasm summons her ship Golden Hind. She can also materialize just the cannons if the ship is unnecessary.
  • Named Weapons: The flintlocks are named Golden Stag and Eventide Tempest.

    Assassin of Red

Servant of Yuko Yamada

True Identity: Chanakya

Tropes:

  • Clock King: His very first in-story action is using the Kobe-via-Fuyuki train being on time to break up a fight between Misa and Tamiko.
  • Manipulative Bastard: While the bastard part is debatable, he did talk Tamiko into letting him poison the entirety of Fuyuki, indirectly making her responsible for an untold number of deaths.
  • Master Poisoner: Uses his Herblore skill to conduct various cures and poisons. By poisoning the water supply of Fuyuki, he can even support his Master's meager mana supply. The dosing is precise enough that its only lethal to the very sick or old, though.
  • Undying Loyalty: Wishes for nothing more than to serve his lord and help her survive this war. Outside of disobeying Yuko, there's nothing he wouldn't do.

    Berserker of Red

Servant of Alfons von Einzbern

True Identity: The Mayan Hero Twins, Xbalanque and Hunahpu

Tropes:

Servants of Black

    Saber of Black

True Identity: Arturia Pendragon

Tropes:

  • Animal Battle Aura: She can shape her prana into the form of a dragon's head to bite opponents.
  • Battle Aura: Saber of Black is constantly wreathed in an aura of black and purple mana.
  • Casting a Shadow: In addition to her dark prana, she can teleport using shadows or Angra Mainyu's black ichor.
  • Cool Mask: She has a mask that covers the upper half of her face, and armor in the shape of fangs that covers her chin and jawline.
  • The Corruption: She is swallowed up by the Shadow and blackened by Angra Mainyu.
  • Evil Overlord: While her kingdom is long gone, she is described as being the "Dark-Tainted Tyrant". She takes her duties as a ruler seriously out of obligation to those whose lives were lost because of her, but is nihilistic and believes her past self was a naive, idealistic fool.
  • Evil Makeover: Her clothes and sword turn black and red, her eyes turn yellow, her skin and hair become deathly pale, and her prana turns black and purple.
  • Healing Factor: Due to her limitless supply of prana, she can recover from almost anything, even mortal wounds.
  • Mighty Glacier: In comparison to her normal self, after being blackened she is slower and has sacrificed some of her ancillary skills such as Charisma and Instinct but is vastly stronger, has limitless prana, and has an intense healing factor.
  • Paint It Black: Her armor turns black and red as a result of her blackening.

    Others

Avenger

Tropes:

  • Big Bad: He is the main antagonist of the story.
