"Archer David. Yes I will do it. Definitely will."

A shepherd-boy and musician foretold by the prophet Samuel to be God's chosen heir to Saul, the troubled first king of Israel. His major claim to fame was defeating the Philistine giant Goliath armed with nothing but a slingshot and five smooth stones before decapitating him with his own sword.

Just like in the Bible, David is Solomon's father. He debuted as an ally in "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos" and is the prize Servant for clearing the chapter. He is one of your companions in "Starry Xuanzang goes to India", as Zhu Bajie. He also appears in the Moonlight/Lostroom OVA.

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Based on how he is described in the Old Testament, David is usually seen as a redhead, but he has green hair here.
  • Adaptational Badass: In turas réalta, he's always on the frontlines (though he's not above ambushes) and his martial prowess with his staff is so sublime that he's initially mistaken for a Lancer.
  • All Jews Are Cheapskates: Is concerned about your economic status and wants to give you advice on how to save money even on your birthday.
  • Always Accurate Attack: David's Noble Phantasm grants a turn of Sure Hit, allowing the NP itself and follow-up attacks on that turn to Ignore Evade. Lore-wise, the fifth rock thrown with the sling is guaranteed to hit the target, with the four other rocks serving as warning shots.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He managed to wrest control from the previous King, Saul (as well as his dynasty), by being way more awesome and charismatic than him. That despite his slipsnote  his dynasty and bloodline managed to survive up to Jesus shows how much respect and divine blessing he's garnered.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: His other Noble Phantasm, The Ark of the Covenant. It's a One-Hit Kill for pretty much anyone who touches it without being allowed; in the "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos" it even bypasses Heracles's infamous God Hand and just obliterates him on the spot. The impractical part comes from it being a big, inanimate, wooden chest that's practically unusable as a weapon; tricking one into touching it is harder than it seems.
    • Extends to his Bond CE, as it grants him a chance of instant death when he attacks alongside the 30% NP strength bonus, but this is a 10% chance for each attack, and David's face cards do not do many hits (the card with the highest hit count is his Extra attack, with 3 hits), so that alongside enemies inate instant death resistance makes it hard for it to proc (Though it does make him a sort of budget version of King Hasan in a way).
  • Ascended Extra: In the turas réalta manga, he's given much more screen time and focus compared to the game's version of the "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos". In the manga's version, he's part of Francis Drake's crew and the first Servant the Protagonist, Mash and Kiyohime meet compared to the game's version who is introduced near the end of the Singularity hiding on an island with Atalante.
  • Badass Israeli: David is living proof that this trope is Older Than Dirt. While still a young boy, armed with nothing but a sling, he defeated the giant Goliath, a champion in the Phillistine army, despite being only a shepherd. He went on to become king of Israel.
  • Balance Buff: His NP was buffed via Rank Up Quest to not only increase the damage, but added a flat 200% Extra Damage bonus against Giant enemies, making it much more lore-accurate to his well-known battle against Goliath.
  • Broken Pedestal: One of Abigail's My Room dialogues has this for him, with her saying that her faith is wavering due to how unrestrained he is, with the only compliment she can muster being that he is a good person when playing the harp.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: David's usually a bit of a goofy joke character, with gags revolving around his lechery and greed, but he is capable of great wisdom and feats of arms, in both the gameplay and the story.
  • Call to Agriculture: Spoofed in Tamamo Cat's interlude, where he has retired to Stheno's island with his wives in order to establish a sheep ranch.
  • Closest Thing We Got: Played for Laughs. In his Interlude, he's hunting giants like the classical Goliath. While the first battle is against a Spriggan who could superficially fit the bill, the ultimate fight is against a Giant Ghost, a Demon Boar, and a Dragon. Funny enough, all four of these enemies do have the "Super Giant" trait, so he's technically right.
David: "Yeah, well all three of them have AoE attacks... and you could make the case that each of them is a giant..."
Protagonist: "That's all it takes [to] be considered a giant?"
David: "Yeah. Big things would do AoE attacks. Pretty much common sense in my world."
    • Ironically, the latter three do not have the Giant trait. The Giant category lists only large humanoids.
  • Combat Medic: His skill setup is like this. Being a combination of a healer and party support Servant while having solid offensive potential at the same time.
  • Culture Clash: He admits at the end of the Sanzang Coming to the West event that he recognizes that he and Sanzang have very different, and incompatible, views on God, but nonetheless, he treasures the chance he was given to meet and learn from her, and she from him, before he disappears.
  • David vs. Goliath: He's half of the Trope Namer, after all, and with his Balance Buff providing a flat 200% bonus damage buff against Giant enemies he can reenact the legend quite well if you let him.
  • Death by Adaptation: He dies pushing the newly-lucid and infinitely more dangerous Heracles into the Ark of the Covenant during the "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos" of turas réalta.
  • Dirty Old Man: He may have been summoned with his body in his Goliath-slaying prime, but his personality is clearly that of the older David from later in his reign - wiser, but also a complete pervert.
  • The Good King: Despite a few slip ups, on the whole his reign was a benevolent one.
  • Handsome Lech: He wants a wife, but in his backstory he didn't go about it the right way. Emiya calls him out about this during the Christmas event when he "mistakes" Santa Alter for Abishag.note
  • Healing Hands: His Harp of Healing skill heals those who listen to it and in-game heals the party while giving each individual a one-hit (not one turn) Evade buff. This Evade buff is considered one of the best in-game since so few other skills provide all-but-guaranteed protection and to the entire party as well.
  • Improbable Weapon User: While he does possess a missile weapon, he usually chooses to simply whack his enemies with a simple shepherd's crook in battle instead.
  • It's All About Me: Played for laughs in the Christmas event. After stowing away on Emiya and Robin Hood's fishing boat, he steers the vessel out to sea so he can flirt with the women of the Southern Lands, only to take them directly into a storm. As the storm tears the boat apart, he tells the other Servants to jump overboard as the boat should still be able to hold together if only one person is onboard.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: A deeply flawed man prone to perversity and greed, he is nonetheless a hero at his core, and is one of the most open-minded Abrahamic Servants in the franchise when dealing with characters of other faiths.
  • Magic Music: His magical harp can be used in exorcisms and to purge mental interference. In-game, it heals and gives Evasion to your party.
  • My Greatest Failure: Parodied somewhat. Rather than bemoan his parental, moral, or kingly shortcomings in life, he's more vocally regretful that he wasn't able to have sex with the beautiful Abishag in his advanced age and is eager to compensate as a Servant.
  • No Guy Wants an Amazon: The one limit to his flirting is women taller than him, though this has less to do with not wanting an Amazon and more of a problem with tall people in general after the Goliath incident. Apparently this is partially what turns him off from Caster of Midrash despite a minor height difference of 2 cm (to her annoyance), though he notes that if that was the only thing, he could get past it, but refuses to state his full reasoning. Taking into account that Caster of Midrash is revealed to be the Queen of Sheba—i.e. a person usually identified with his son, Solomon, it probably comes of as something akin to one's dad trying his best not to hit on his son's girlfriend.
  • One-Hit Kill:
  • Parents as People: He mentions in "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos" that he was never father material when it came to questions concerning his son, Solomon, who is quickly built up to be the Big Bad of the first arc of the game, Observer on Timeless Temple. By the end of Part 1, we learn that the real Solomon was every bit of a decent if likewise flawed man as his father and has been your ally since day one, and that the Solomon running around being evil was an impostor.
  • Parents Know Their Children: He admits in his Interlude post part one that he figured out that 'Solomon' was an impostor, but he either didn't know or chose to ignore the possibility that Dr. Roman was the real Solomon. He saw Solomon in Dr. Roman in that both men had "absolutely no freedom," but Dr. Roman seemed different as a man who had chosen of his own free will to give it up. Mash muses that David nonetheless acted as if Dr. Roman was his son despite his own words, such as David trying to show off his "cool" side in the Interlude while Dr. Roman was still watching and trying to treat Dr. Roman in a honest, straightforward way.
  • Red Baron: The King of Israel, though he really was.
  • Running Gag: He keeps mistaking beautiful women he sees for Abishag.
  • Selective Obliviousness: His Interlude post part one indicates that he had a strong suspicion who Dr. Roman truly was, but chose not to think about it or directly intervene.
  • Semi-Divine: As an ancestor of Christ, David has a low rank in Divinity and therefore gains protection against certain sacramentsnote , though he doesn't actually have the passive skill or the Divinity trait in-game.
  • Shipper on Deck: If you have both David and Caster of Midrash, her My Room lines reveal he wants her to call him father, probably due to her relationship with King Solomon, and much to her annoyance.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: David has great stats, including some of the best ATK for his rarity, a straightforward and diverse skillset and Noble Phantasm, having a mixture of support skills such as party healing, buffing the party's ATK, and applying Evasion to the entire party with a single-target Noble Phantasm that inflicts Skill Seal on your opponent.
  • Situational Sword: The upgrade on his Noble Phantasm allows him to inflict extra damage to enemies with the Giant trait. While it's different from the Super Giant trait, all Humanoid enemies with the Super Giant trait do also have the Giant trait. The Giant trait includes enemies that are smaller than Super Giants, giving David a wider range of targets. He benefits greatly from fighting Sabers and Berserkers with the Giant trait, which include Ibuki, Asterios, Darius, Xiang Yu, Megalos, Minotaur, Sutr, the Great Oni Vermillion Dragon, most Spriggans, most of the giants from "Lostbelt No. 2: The Eternal Icy Fire Century, Götterdämmerung", many of the giant oni and many of the giant Nobus.
  • Square Race, Round Class: Despite being an Archer, he is much more akin to a Caster, notably having three Arts cards, a team wide heal and avoid, and Charisma to buff the party. He also only uses his sling, the weapon that categorized him as an Archer, in only his Noble Phantasm, instead using a staff to attack physically like a Magic Knight. Uniquely, he is one of four Archer's to have rank A Magic Resistance. Basically, he plays like a Caster stuck in the Archer class.
  • Stalker with a Crush: At the start of Caster of Midrash's Interlude, he admits to the protagonist that he's checking whenever Midrash shows up in common areas, then looks into her favorite facilities and how she likes to get to them; he's trying to confirm her beauty and declare her his newest Abishag, and for her part, Midrash is even using her Seer powers to avoid him at all cost. One of the protagonist's dialogue options is to outright report him for stalking. By the end, he succeeds in getting a look at Midrash, but admits to her face that she's not his type despite being beautiful and drops the stalking too, to her chagrin. Subverted when one takes into account that Midrash's identity as the Queen of Sheba and her relationship with Solomon, so it actually comes off as David assessing his daughter-in-law.
  • Suffer the Slings: Naturally, being King David and all. It is the reason he is an Archer and is his primary Noble Phantasm, Hamesh Avanim: The Five Stones. This manifests-in game as a mystical, relatively-ornate slingshot which transfigures a normal stone into a beam of energy approaching, unavoidable Wave-Motion Gun levels.
  • White Mage: Interestingly, his in-game skill set allows him to heal both himself and his teammates while providing guaranteed Evade for one hit to each individual in the party and raising his DEF for one turn. This makes him a popular choice for players who don't have any other hard-hitting Archers. His Command Cards are also dominated by Arts cards—which positively looks more like a Caster's than the rest.

The Undefeatable Goddess
Second Ascension
Third Ascension/"Kali"
Final Ascension
Voiced by: Noriko Shitaya
Illustrator: STAR Shadow Magician

"I am Durga, the Divine Light Fusion Type Goddess of Annihilation. This goddess exists for the sake of destroying demons. Please exercise due care when it comes to operating me."

A Hindu goddess of war who is associated with protection, motherhood, and strength. A facet of Parvati, she is Shiva's wife who is seen as a protector deity wielding ten divine weapons riding either a lion or tiger. Many tales of her slaying demons are told all across the land.

Deep within her lies the other facet of Durga and Parvati, the goddess, Kali. The goddess of destruction who is the embodiment of Durga's wrath. One of her most famous act is when fighting with the asura Raktabija, who can multiply himself using every single drop of his blood that falls on the ground. Durga becomes so angry at this that Kali promptly manifests and drinks all of Raktabija's blood before it can drop and then eating all of the clones that had already manifested.

She would then dance and trample all of creation till her husband, Shiva, threw himself at the ground where she was dancing. Kali became horrified that she had stepped on her beloved husband which caused her to stop.

She appears in Ordeal Call 1: Paper Moon as the Servant of Rani XII, the Dust of Osiris.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: As Kali, she has blue skin which coincides with most depictions of her.
  • Alternate Self: Durga and Kali are different aspects of Parvati.
  • Ax-Crazy: Kali stands out as one of the most unhinged Servants summonable, and many of her lines have her manically laughing and revelling in the bloodshed she causes. If she's not fighting and killing, then she demands that she be given the opportunity soon.
  • Bathing Beauty: Her Final Ascension has Durga bathing in a pond.
  • Blood Knight: Predictably, Kali practically revels in combat and frequently looks forward to the next battle the Protagonist sends her to participate in. Though the end of her Bond 4 line has her slowly realize there will come a time where there will be no more enemies to fight and considers the thought of it 'troublesome'.
  • Bloodlust: Kali loves drinking blood as part of her violent nature, but she doesn't need it like vampires do.
  • The Beastmaster: Durga uses her snake and tiger mount a lot when she attacks.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Durga was initially mentioned back in Fate/EXTRA CCC as one of the components of Passionlip before finally appearing in the flesh in Ordeal Call 1. Within FGO itself, Durga and Kali were first mentioned in "Tokugawa Restoration Labyrinth" though they didn't appear because Parvati was more suited for defeating Kama.
  • Commonality Connection: She finds other blood sucking female Servants to be kindred spirits, whether they return this sentiment is up for debate.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Kali effortlessly defeats Bhima, Duryodhana, and numerous Cerberuses summoned through Medusa with one blow each. Kama fares a little better, but not much.
  • Dance Battler: Kali's ultimate destructive power is channeled through the medium of dance, but dancing in general is one of her few passions unrelated to bloodshed and death. She even tries to strike up a friendship with fellow dancer Mata Hari over this common connection. Her Noble Phantasm Samhara Kali:World-Shattering Victory Dance, is her infamous dance that nearly destroyed the whole world after being drunk in her victory against Raktabija.
  • Doting Parent: Kali WANTS to be this with Ganesha/Jinako. It doesn't work out. At all.
  • The Dreaded: Kali is one of the most dangerous Divinities to ever exist. Various myths tells of her being a feared being that tramples all of creation. Her intro features her recreating her infamous dance that took SHIVA to be trampled for her to stop. Even her subdued form of Durga is respected among anyone familiar with her mythos, stating that she's less a warrior and more a living extermination weapon, but at least she follows commands; Kali is basically Durga without the emergency brakes.
  • Full-Body Disguise: Spends most of the chapter undercover as "DX", the Power Armor-clad leader of the Type-D Rani. Notably, on reveal, her entire body shatters to reveal Durga's.
  • Good Is Not Soft: And that's putting it lightly! Kali as the embodiment of Durga's rage, her function is to destroy asura at the height of Durga's anger, however Kali can lose herself in bloodlust, and even her dancing is powerful enough to put the entire world at risk, at one point it takes Shiva getting danced on inadvertently to get her to calm down through sheer regret and shame.
  • Lighter and Softer: Only insofar as you compare the in-game Kali with Sakura's face to the traditional Hindu portrayal of Kali: a horrific and bloody god that wears severed human heads in a garland. Her personality, if any, is just as consistent.
  • Literal Split Personality: In Paper Moon, Durga is split apart leaving her alone as an Alter Ego, but with enough magical energy she manages to retake Kali into herself. Unfortunately, without Parvati's calming influence the two go on a warpath trying to reunite with Shiva.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Due to being turned into an Alter Ego of love and obsession, the Durga and Kali who appear in Paper Moon will stop at nothing, even destroying the world, if it means reuniting with Shiva.
  • Keystone Army: Her role in Ordeal Call 1: Paper Moon. Durga has a massive conceptual space within her meant for storing all the divinities she was given. Rani XII exploits this by storing the Saint Graphs of Servants in it, letting her easily use the misappropriated PAPERMOON to shave off Alter Egos from them en masse. Durga/Kali's defeat puts an immediate and irreversible end to that experiment.
  • Magical Barefooter: Durga only has footwraps while Kali is barefoot. They are both goddesses who constantly levitate, meaning their feet never touch the ground.
  • Making a Splash: Durga's snake is able to unleash jets of water to towards her enemies.
  • Master of All: Due to being a goddess of war born to fight demons, Durga has aptitude for every Servant Class.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: As a Hindu Goddess, Kali has ten arms and is known for being the most destructive and bloodthirsty of all. Each of her many arms is clutching a different weapon, some of them too strange and esoteric for human eyes and minds to fully register.
  • One-Winged Angel: Kali is this for Durga. When Rani gives her enough energy to, 'Durga' reveals her true identity as an Alter Ego class Kali. As a playable Servant, Kali manifests on her own upon Durga reaching Third Ascension, but retains her Archer class.
  • Panthera Awesome: She rides a white tiger per most depictions of her riding on one.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Kali possesses such power that every step she takes as she dances shakes the very Earth and will break the world itself if she has enough magical energy and time to continue dancing.
  • Power Limiter: By virtue of her being Durga she is a power limiter that can control her Kali aspect's bloodlust, so that she won't cause unwanted destruction.
  • Recurring Element: Like Angra Mainyu, BB, and Kama before her, yet another world-ending horror-terror manifests as a Sakuraface.
  • Split Personality: Parvati, Durga, and Kali all share the same Divine Core but manifest with different Spirit Origins.
  • Spock Speak: Durga speaks with a flat monotone in most of her lines and describes herself as though she were a machine. She refers to directing her as "operating her" as though she were a weapon or a tool instead of a goddess.
  • Stripperiffic: With the exception of Second Ascension, where Durga is fully clothed, both Durga and Kali wear incredibly revealing, bikini-like outfits.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: After her initial defeat, Durga tricks Rani XII into giving her enough energy to manifest as Kali.
  • Third Eye: Kali possesses a third Eye on her forehead.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Shortly after Kali is awakened; she goes rogue in order to accomplish her own goals separate from that of her Master.
  • When She Smiles: Durga is a goddess of war and destruction designed solely to destroy demons and the enemies of the gods. She claims to have not had the "function" to smile because it wouldn't help her with her duties. Despite this, her Bond 5 line has her giving a gentle, sweet smile not unlike Parvati's when it's clear that the protagonist cares about her enough to want to see her happy.
  • White and Red and Eerie All Over: Durga is incredibly pale with white hair, red eyes and bloodstained hands, and she's the less dangerous aspect of Kali.
  • Zero-Approval Gambit: Kali, like Kriemhild in Traum, seeks to reunite with her husband, Shiva. Through reenacting the dance of destruction, which will cause the world within Paper Moon to be destroyed in order to make him intervene like in her legends. She tricks Rani XII in order to do so.

    EMIYA

The Hero of Justice
Second Ascension
Third Ascension
Final Ascension
Summer Casual
April Fool's
April Fool's Fate/Grail League
Voiced by: Jun'ichi Suwabe (Japanese), Kaiji Tang (-First Order- anime) (English)
Illustrator: Takashi Takeuchi

"Archer-class Servant. I have been summoned and come at your request."

EMIYA is not a typical Heroic Spirit in that he is not drawn from the past, but the possible future of Emiya Shirou, a young magus and master of Altria Pendragon in another life. EMIYA was a young man who pursued his ideal of becoming a selfless Hero of Justice who could save any life that needed to be saved. However, he struggled to live up to such an impossible philosophy: at one point, to save every life from a major disaster he requested a miracle from The World in exchange for becoming a Counter Guardian after death. Because he would frequently show up at the sites of many disasters, EMIYA was eventually mistaken as a terrorist by the very people he was trying to save, and was executed for it.

As a Counter Guardian, his new role was to be eternally summoned by The World as a defensive mechanism against great losses of life. Within this role, EMIYA was forced to kill and let others die because it would technically save a greater number of lives: the very antithesis of his Hero of Justice philosophy. Driven to near-insanity, EMIYA gambled on a desperate plan to be summoned in the Fifth Holy Grail War and kill his younger self, thus creating a time paradox that would free him from his contract with The World.

Despite his classification as an Archer Servant, EMIYA specialises in the use of Projection and Reinforcement magecraft, allowing him to create degraded replicas of any Sword-element weapon he has observed and wield them with the same skill as their original owner. His proficiency stems from his self-sacrificial nature, which allows him to create these replicas using his own body as a material component. The ultimate pinnacle of this lies in his Reality Marble, Unlimited Blade Works: an area-wide manifestation of his soul where he can perfectly and instantly replicate the thousands of Noble Phantasms he has observed across his lifetimes.

He appeared in Fate/EXTRA and CCC as one of the three playable Servants, where he was known as "Nameless". He also had a cameo in Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya. A corrupted version of him is the main antagonist of the one-shot manga, and he is a minor antagonist in the anime adaptation First Order. While not a major character in the main story, he has made several appearances in event stories and is a major ally for the "Da Vinci and the Seven Counterfeit Heroic Spirits" event.

  • Animation Bump: Coinciding with the Fate/Extella launch in JP, he received a sprite overhaul to look less cartoony and an attack animation revamp to look more elaborate.
  • Balance Buff:
    • Received two of the most notable ones in the history of the game- the first was a buff to his Magecraft C- skill, turning it into Projection A, which instead of just buffing his Arts cards buffs his whole deck, making his NP quite strong in the right circumstances. While this already made took him from "mediocre" to "good", he received a second buff in the form of turning his Clairvoyance skill into Hawkeye. Clairvoyance originally gave him an increased rate of generating Critical Stars at a mediocre 32% when maxed out. Hawkeye, on the other hand, not only dramatically increases his crit star generation chance (up to 100% when maxed out) but also, as a fun bonus, increases his critical hit damage as well. Pair both of these buffs together, and you get a character who is downright dangerous if completely maxed out, capable of dishing out extremely powerful AoE damage, soaking up a bunch of crit stars, firing off a combo that maxes out his NP again, and then doing it all over again until his buffs time out. These buffs dragged EMIYA from a situational low-tier servant into one of the best non SSR Archers in the game alongside Chloe (who is intended to mimic him in design).
    • Projection A was later buffed via Rank Up Quest note  to Circuit Connect EX, which boosted the buffs to his whole deck and gives him the ability to switch his NP type between Buster and Arts as desired (a mechanic only previously possessed by Space Ishtar). Suddenly, he can now perform a proper Arts chain with his NP (which has a hit count of 10 on its own) and refund a massive portion of his NP gauge, with the only weakness being the buff still only lasts one turn meaning his second NP won't hit as hard.
  • BFS: Wields Caladbolg II in his third Ascension artwork.
  • Big Brother Mentor: He seems to take up this role for the protagonist during his interlude and in events, coaching them on using their magecraft more efficiently, sympathizing with their feelings of powerlessness next to their Servants, and encouraging them when they show progress.
"You're doing good. Feeling more confident, are we? That's the spirit. Hope I can still be of service."
  • The Blacksmith: Also known as "The Blacksmith Heroic Spirit" or "The Heroic Spirit of Wrought Iron". His version of Unlimited Blade Works has steam and gears in the background, resembling that of a workshop. He likes to make weapons, LOTS and LOTS of weapons; it defines his very existence.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: He can make use of pretty much any weapon, so he sometimes uses his bow to fire even swords.
  • Call-Back: Some allusions to his role in EXTRA and CCC are made during the SE.RA.PH chapter.
    • Nero and Tamamo (and only them) call him "Nameless".
    • Meltryllis holding some kind of interest in him is a reference to how her love switches to him in CCC when you're playing as female Hakuno.
  • Chef of Iron: Well, he's still Emiya Shirou, chef extraordinaire. It's implied that he regularly cooks meals for Chaldea and helps other female Servants with their Valentine chocolates.
"My down time? Mostly just mess with my gear and in the kitch... uhh, the plumbing? Yeah."
  • Chick Magnet: Given his identity, he might be one of the biggest out of all the Servants. Apparently even the Amazonian warrior mooks you fight get distracted by him. Lampshaded by Jeanne Alter and Medea who flat-out call him a womanizer and playboy, respectively.
  • Character Development: He retains his from the Unlimited Blade Works route of Fate/Stay Night, and is ultimately closer in personality to being a more mature Shirou than the self loathing aloof character he was in the visual novel.
  • Critical Hit Class: A notable example even within the Archer class. His upgraded Hawkeye skill is tied for the second largest crit damage buff in the game, and gives him a star per hit at minimum at max level. His buff also lasts for 3 turns in comparison to the one turn buffs most other crit skills have. His Noble Phantasm is also supported by this, as explained below, allowing him to generate a reasonable number of stars off it, and get it quickly due to his card set. All of this combines to allow him to fire off a boosted chain, generate stars through his Noble Phantasm, and then fire off another boosted chain if the timing and cards are right.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Being EMIYA, he is still the Combat Pragmatist we know. Hence, it's no surprise that he's still quite ruthless and stoic in his cards' artwork as he ascends (and the skyline of the Unlimited Blade Works Reality Marble is still the tumultuous sunset background). Come final ascension, however, where you fully command his trust, he's beaming a very positive smile (and the skyline of Unlimited Blade Works has transformed to that of a bright sunny day, akin to that of the younger Emiya Shirou).
  • The Dragon: He serves as one to Saber Alter in the Fuyuki segment of the First Order anime.
  • Dual Wielding: Uses Kanshou and Bakuya in battle.
  • Field of Blades: His Noble Phantasm, Unlimited Blade Works, summons a Reality Marble filled with swords that he has observed, both while alive and as a Counter-Guardian.
  • Foreshadowing: In F/GO Material Book 1, one of his responses to Servants he knows is to remark that Ishtar's "finally lost her mind"; because her host body's Rin, someone he's very familiar with.
  • Hidden Depths: He apparently has quite the skill at figure skating, as Bunyan states in her Valentine's Day scene that he preformed a quintuple half axel when skating on bacon to grease up the griddle for her.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: He sometimes tries to come off as aloof as he was in Fate/stay night. He really isn't anymore.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Thanks to Archer's relatively unknown abilities, many of his fights are won because he is able to pull out another badass trick that he'd been holding back until just the right moment.
  • Icy Gray Eyes: Strong willed, grey-eyed, cold and, if you ask him, with an ideals above people mindset.
  • I Hate Past Me: Despite being more idealistic, he still dislikes his younger/former self's, as he puts it, immature ideals.
  • Jack of All Stats: Most Archers are specialized in Critical Hits, but also he carries 3 Arts cards to boost his NP gauge, his NP is an AoE Buster, his Projection Magic increases the power of all his cards, and his unique Craft Essence gives him a flat chance to generate Critical Stars per hit.
  • Jack of All Trades: Emiya wears a lot of hats, between being an expert swordsman, archer, chef, magus, and handyman. He's also passionate about fishing, becoming Hot-Blooded and rebranding himself as "Angler" during the Servant Summer Camp event. Lampshaded by Yu Mei-ren (Lancer) due to the sheer versatility of his Projections/Tracing.
Yu Mei-ren: [After he projects a magic mirror] "There's really nothing you can't do, is there?"
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: His profile is full of spoilers for the Unlimited Blade Works route and ufotable's anime adaptation. His second Ascension card, with his hair down, makes him look a lot like Emiya Shirou. Even his true name isn't a spoiler anymore; Mash clearly calls him 'Emiya-senpai' in his Interlude and other Servants call him "Emiya". And as pointed out on the main page for F/GO, this all represents a pretty significant policy shift vis-a-vis keeping Emiya's identity unspoiled for The Reveal in certain F/SN works.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: As a former eroge protagonist, Emiya is prone to commenting on the protagonist's escapades in comparison to his own. He warns the other Servants to steer clear of the protagonist when things are getting weird and picks up on all kinds of flags between the protagonist and Mash.
  • Ma'am Shock: Male version. In "Little Santa Alter", Nursery Rhyme calls Emiya a mister. Lampshaded by Emiya, who decides to be okay with the title since denying it would just make him sound older and in denial.
  • Magic Knight: His command card sets are dominated by Arts cards—which is positively more like a Caster's compared to most other Archers. This definitely make sense when you remember that in his lifetime, EMIYA was still technically a magus—if a one-trick pony magus at that.
  • Magikarp Power: For a time, he was a rather mediocre Servant due to Clairvoyance being one of the worst skills in the game and Magecraft boosting Arts cards although he has a Buster-type Noble Phantasm. However, he received multiple Noble Phantasm upgrades, Clairvoyance turned into Hawkeye and Magecraft became Projection, making him a very reliable Archer for many players. Hawkeye increased Clairvoyance's star generation to acceptable levels and also added in some of the highest crit damage in the game while Projection upped the value on his Arts buff and then added in both Quick and Buster cards, allowing it to work on his Noble Phantasm as well. EMIYA would gain another Rank Up Quest which upgrades Projection to Circuit Connect, which allows him to change the card type of Unlimited Blade Works between Arts and its original Buster.
  • Master of None: In the early days of the game, he suffered from this: his star generation skill wasn't enough to make his star generation good, and his NP and deck didn't match properly, meaning he ended up a weird mix of a crit-archer, a farmer, and an NP-spammer, who wasn't particularly good at any of the above. Thankfully, he received many a Balance Buff to pull him out of it.
  • Master Swordsman: Although he isn't quite on the level of Sabers like Altria, his technique is acknowledged to be incredible by her and the likes of Heracles. He usually enters the fray Dual Wielding Kanshou and Bakuya and manages to hold his own against Servants like Cú Chulainn, who is considered among the best of the best.
  • Mr. Exposition: He tends to lecture the protagonist and Mash about the Holy Grail War and magic theories, especially Projections.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • As "Saber Wars" reaches its climax, he spontaneously decides to change into his third ascension outfit before telling Mysterious Heroine X to reveal the truth behind why she's hunting Sabers. X tells him to change out of his "sci-fi outfit" first, which he does after some grumbling about how X wouldn't allow it after all, implying that he only changed so he could fit into the silly sci-fi theme of the event.
    • He doesn't pay his Alter counterpart, who loathes him for not being as hardened as he was, much mind... except for the part where he wishes he came up with the idea of Dual Wielding gun-swords before EMIYA Alter did.
  • Not the Intended Use: Unlimited Blade Works, despite being an AoE Buster Noble Phantasm that lowers enemy ATK, is actually most useful as a star generator than anything else because of its very high hit count. When combined with his Clairvoyance (and later Hawkeye) skills to increase his stargen, if he hits three enemies on the battlefield and scores an Overkill bonus he can create at least fifty stars from one attack.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In "The Little Santa Alter", he wears a facemask and calls himself Santam — he's invoking this trope to appear as a bad guy after already showing up as his usual self cooking food for the Servant children. Played With in that no one falls for this disguise, unlike most Paper-Thin Disguises in this game which are usually played straight.
Santam: "How did they figure it out...!? They couldn't figure out Santa Island Mask..."note
  • Real Men Wear Pink: In addition to being an excellent sniper and a Master Swordsman who is ripped all over, he's also talented at housework, especially cooking. He seems to be somewhat embarrassed by the latter, as he's reluctant to the admit it and pulls a Last-Second Word Swap to make it sound like he does plumbing (which he also does).
  • Red Baron: Wrought Iron Hero.
  • Red Is Heroic: He's much more genuinely heroic than his original appearances, having no real reason to plot or scheme behind others' backs.
  • Sincerest Form of Flattery: He explains during Thomas Edison's Interlude that his copying of other heroes' weaponry is often a token of his esteem and he'll do so in secret if he's afraid his facsimiles would offend them. However, those who are possessive and arrogant about the uniqueness and ownership of their Noble Phantasms, he'll go out of his way to copy theirs just to insult them.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: His second ascension and Alter version seen in the First Order anime both drop his red shroud.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: His name is usually written out in all caps, but here it's merely "Emiya".
  • Square Race, Round Class: Somewhat downplayed compared to his other appearances—he shares a focus on critting with many Archers, and his innate skills are very standard Archer skills. On the other hand, he still uses knives and swords a lot more often than his bow (in fact, he didn't use a bow at all until his animations got updated), and his triple-Arts deck and AoE Buster NP are both things that tend to pop up more often on Casters.
  • Starter Mon: In addition to Mash, EMIYA is one of the ten (later 14) available 4* Servants that can be summoned from the Starter Summon. Among the ten, he was the only 4* Archer. In JP on July 3rd, 2019, EMIYA was joined by fellow 4* Archer Atalante (who has since been replaced by Zenobia).
  • Storm of Blades: How Unlimited Blade Works is used in this game, just like its appearance in Fate/Unlimited Codes.
  • Straight Man: In addition to becoming more like Shirou personality-wise, he has also gained the same role Shirou had when it comes to the other characters' outlandishness.
  • Supreme Chef: He still has his culinary skills from his human life and cooking is something he really enjoys. He's also a staff member of Chaldea's kitchen, along with Boudica, Tamamo Cat, Raikou, etc, with several other servants referring to him as a "Heroic Spirit of the Kitchen" rather than by his class or his name.
  • Team Mom:
    • Because he is not burdened by his role as a Counter Guardian, he became some sort of mother hen. He is a caring and fussing kind of a senior to the protagonist and Mash, lecturing them about battles whenever possible. He also cooks for them, and is deemed as the most overprotective Servant in Chaldea. To sum it all, personality-wise, he is Fate/EXTRA Archer.
    • In his Interlude, when he's lecturing the MC and Mash, Dr. Roman asks "if he's always like this." You can respond, "his attribute is talky mom."
    • In the first Valentine event, he shows up trying to get the protagonist to not accept any chocolates from the female Servants, but then it turns out he made his own chocolate for them in case they still wanted some regardless. In later events, he's mentioned in passing as the one who taught the other Servants how to make edible or even delicious chocolates and helps even the male Servants with their gifts, making a quality toy Durandal for Mandricardo to give the protagonist.
    • In "Servant Summer Camp! Chaldea's Thriller Night", an Interlude with Okita (Summer), Suzuka Gozen , Nobunaga (Summer), and Sei Shounagon ends him with warning them that the mushrooms they picked are all horrifically poisonous before telling them to come inside and eat after washing their hands.
Okita J. Souji: That Archer really seems to think he's our dad or something... Was that always his schtick?
Suzuka Gozen: I think he actually had some pretty awesome big bro vibes there, didn't he? Is that, like, him just being himself or something?
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: He doesn't get along with Cú Chulainn or Gilgamesh at all, explicitly telling you to keep them to separate teams.
"Heroic Spirits have their strengths and weaknesses just like Servant classes do. For me, it's gold Archers and blue Lancers. Just keep them off my team, would you?"
  • Theme Music Power-Up: When using his Noble Phantasm, the music briefly changes to EMIYA. Before his gameplay updates, players wanted him just for this reason.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He's kept his Character Development from previous titles, so while still snarky and cynical to an extent he's much more hopeful about the future and more willing to act on idealism and show open care for his comrades. It also helps that he has no reason to be antagonizing to others or plotting against his allies now that he's not in the Fuyuki Holy Grail War.
  • Weak, but Skilled: He has poor stats, but is still a good Servant due to his skills. To put his skill in perspective, his Mind's Eye ability, which represents his combat experience and skill, is at the same rank (B) as Heracles, implicitly putting him on par with one of the most skillful fighters in the Fate series.
  • Why Didn't I Think of That?: While EMIYA generally leaves his Alter alone and doesn't think much of him, the only thing he does note is his version of Kanshou and Bakuya, finding them cool and wished he had the idea himself.
  • Willfully Weak: He reveals in his second Interlude that he's been holding back the power of his Noble Phantasm to make sure that his Master was strong enough. After you prove yourself against a blackened Heracles, EMIYA gives the protagonist full command of what he has to offer in combat, unlocking an in-game upgrade to his NP.
  • Wolverine Publicity: As one of the most iconic Fate characters alongside Altria and Gilgamesh, he is one of the featured characters in the opening of the game, despite not having much of a role in the main story so far. He does crop up far more often in seasonal or special events, though.
  • You Remind Me of X: Brynhild comments directly in My Room that he carries the same sadness as her beloved Sigurd does. Note that the only other Servant who gets a direct comparison to Sigurd from her in My Room is Siegfried, who is more-or-less the same character but a different version of the myth.

"So you're my Master? You look hideous. Whatever. I may be in a strange getup, but I'm an Archer. Use me well."

An alternative version of a nameless "Hero of Justice", who once dreamed of becoming a hero who could save any life that needed to be saved. In a certain timeline, this man fell from grace when he attempted to stop the machinations of a twisted and charismatic cult leader, and was forced to kill many of her followers even as her honeyed words pierced his very soul. The trauma of that incident severely damaged his memories and mental state, turning him into a heartless executor who has discarded everything in the name of becoming a efficient machine of justice: his morality, his past, and even his humanity.

He plays a major role in Epic of Remnant, featuring in Shinjuku and SE.RA.PH, as well as the Fate/Requiem collaboration event as an ally. He also makes a cameo in the Moonlight/Lostroom OVA.

  • Amnesiac Hero: Played for drama. He suffers frequent memory loss to the point where, even though we know who he is, he doesn't actually remember his past, and seems incapable of making new memories. His interlude expands upon this by revealing that since he's a Heroic Spirit, the past is what allows them to exist as heroes. As his past is abolished since he forgot the reason and goal for why he killed to begin with, he can't remember what he was like before and it's why his Saint Graph is so unstable. He only knows how to kill and is summoned just to do that.
"I am just a bullet after all. No ideal, or vision. Once used, it will be something that will be erased
    [...]
    My body is a bullet.
Shoot me endlessly, until I get crushed one day."
  • Anti-Hero Substitute: To the regular EMIYA during SE.RA.PH, as his non-Alter self was the original Archer the protagonist was going to bring with him to investigate Seraphix. He is further contrasted by fellow Archers Tristan and Robin Hood during that same chapter.
  • A-Team Firing: His guns tend to discharge when he's attacking an enemy in melee. When combined with the Gun Twirling, the majority of his bullets seem to go in every direction except where his target is.
  • Badass Back: Pulls this off in his artwork and in-game sprite.
  • Balance Buff:
    • His NP interlude not only increases the damage but also makes it significantly more likely for the secondary effects to kick in.
    • As part of the Tales of Chaldean Heavy Industry event, his Projection Magecraft skill was buffed to Circuit Connection (Illegal), which not only gives EMIYA Alter a NP charge, but also increases the duration of his card buffs to 3 turns and attacks.
  • Bifurcated Weapon: In his later ascensions and some of his attacks, his guns turn into swords that can be connected at the handle.
  • Body Horror:
    • His Noble Phantasm afflicts his targets with a form similar to what Shirou experienced in Heaven's Feel, causing their bodies to explode in a burst of blades and gore.
    • His third and final ascension has his body breaking down with gold-colored schisms being created (that are extremely reminiscent of Lines of Death, complete with an obvious Point on his chest).
  • Despair Event Horizon: He crossed it in the past when slaughtering a cult, heavily implied and later confirmed to be the one run by Sessyoin Kiara from Fate/EXTRA CCC. Kiara later uses this guilt to bring him to the side of the Beasts temporarily in the SE.RA.PH chapter. It's later expanded upon in manga where we're shown that Taiga had joined the cult in order to get medicine for her sick son, and tried to stop him, forcing him to kill her. He apparently didn't even realize what he'd done until some time afterwards.
  • Double Unlock: He can only be summoned after beating Shinjuku.
  • Dual Wield: He dual-wields Kanshou & Bakuya in the form of a pair of pistols with large curved bayonets.
  • The Eeyore: He's EMIYA at his lowest. He's become an Alter not because of Grail corruption but through his own indoctrination to throw everything away in order to protect humanity. He doesn't even consider himself as a "human" anymore, just a walking corpse futilely hacking away at humanity's threats. When he regains his old "EMIYA" identity as he grows closer to you, his body breaks apart as if he wants to remove himself from existence. He's brought down even lower by Kiara in SE.RA.PH, becoming the "Lost Man" after fulfilling his duty as a Counter Guardian.
  • Empty Shell: After meeting Kiara again, he loses his sense of identity and turns into a full blown murder machine. Robin Hood comments he looks like a walking corpse, his boss battle name card is replaced with "Lost Man", and even his class has disappeared.
    • In his Interlude, his inner darkness is just another copy of himself. No hidden regrets, no secret fears, no evil desires, nothing. The Alter you summon and his inner dark side have no differences between them, something which they both acknowledge even if they know one of them has to kill the other. He is so devoid of any repressed aspects that there is nothing of himself to hide or lock away; he's purely committed to be a weapon, and anything else literally does not exist within him.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He's an empty shell of a man with seemingly no regard for loyalty or decency, but even he's upset to hear Kiara mocking the people who died for her. The people he himself killed to get to her.
  • Evil Counterpart: Definitely serves as one to the standard Counter Guardian EMIYA above—or for that matter his Grail-corrupted "Alter" version seen in First Order. EMIYA is True Neutral, but this guy is Chaotic Evil, since he's become evil to protect humanity. Beyond this he fully embraces Counter Force's murderous methods, and executes his tasks with no regrets. EMIYA, in contrast, hates how the Counter Force operates and that he's forced to kill, even though he's fighting threats to the world itself.
  • Four Is Death: Has a roman numeral IV on his back.
  • Fisher King: The only time the Unlimited Blade Works Reality Marble figures with him is in his Stage 4 ascension—where he is slowly regaining his identity as the usual Heroic Spirit EMIYA.
  • Good All Along: Maybe not good, but an ally. After appearing as an enemy, as soon as Bael is revealed (and just as Moriarty shows his true colors), EMIYA Alter switches sides and helps the protagonist. It turned out that EMIYA's goal from the beginning was to kill Bael, he was just waiting for the perfect moment and he had known that Moriarty would kill him after his own goal was accomplished. While he justifies fighting Bael as an Enemy Mine situation and pure mercenary work, he sticks around even after Bael's dead with the excuse that he doesn't have anything better to do besides dying.
  • Gun Twirling: Tends to spin his guns when hitting an enemy with them.
  • Guns Akimbo: Dual wields Kanshou and Bakuya like his regular counterpart, but they're modified to also act as revolvers.
  • Hidden Depths: He actually keeps a diary that catalogues his experiences at Chaldea to make sure that he can't forget them and is genuinely touched by the chocolate you give him on Valentine's Day. His nature also means that he has trouble remembering things that happened the day before, meaning that he truly cherishes the time he spends with the protagonist and Chaldea despite his abrasive and cold-hearted exterior.
  • I Was Just Passing Through:
    • He gives a justification along these lines in Shinjuku when helps the protagonist against Moriarty. He advertises himself as a mercenary who only wanted to kill Bael as part of his contract, yet he's still fighting alongside the good guys and even sticks around to compliment the protagonist like an Aloof Ally. But he'll only help in the future for a price, supposedly.
    • He shoots Tamamo Cat in SE.RA.PH. right as she was saying she planned to join your side, causing the party to get angry with him. However, she pops up again injured but still alive and basically fine. Rather than shoot to kill her, he had targeted a bit of her body that was like an infection from BB, destroying it and breaking what control she had over the crazy cat-fox maid. After, he claims he simply shot at an enemy and there was an even chance of her dying on the spot. Right. Seems he's a bit nicer than he pretends.
  • In-Series Nickname: Tamamo Cat calls him Detroit EMIYA, which is later shortened to Demiya. He is not very amused by this. In the English version, Tamamo Cat instead calls him Edgy Emiya, or Edgemiya for short.
  • Interface Screw: His Unlimited Lost Works is written with the same kanji as Unlimited Blade Works, except one has a gash over it, turning "Infinite Creation of Swords" into "Empty Creation of Swords". When he's transformed from an Archer into a Beast-related Servant, his Class plate in the battle screen looks like it's been violently gouged out.
  • Irony: Unlike normal EMIYA, he became a Counter Guardian because he threw away all his emotions and became dedicated to simply eliminating humanity's threats, rather like Kiritsugu nearly did (and like Assassin EMIYA actually did). Because he threw away his morality, though, he's actually much more vulnerable to being swayed from his duty, and Sesshouin is able to transform him into a Beast-Servant, complete with Beast III typing, by the end of the SE.RA.PH chapter. The true EMIYA, meanwhile, never flinched in the face of Sesshouin during his route in CCC, though due to never having to commit the same atrocities his Alter counterpart had to in order to stop Kiara.
  • Jerkass: Take EMIYA already being kind of an asshole, multiply those traits, add in some edginess and then subtract his better qualities and you get this guy. There are a few occasional glints of EMIYA's original heroic side deep down, however, but these feelings seem to disturb him.
  • Laughing Mad: He lets out a rather creepy laugh when he is asked about the Holy Grail.
  • Like Father, Like Son: His Noble Phantasm has him firing an Origin Bullet just like Kiritsugu. Because EMIYA has Sword as his Origin, the bullet instead causes multiple swords to jut out of its victim's body.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: Sweet Moses. Unlimited Lost Works shoots a person with a bullet that causes swords to erupt out of them... and this is pretty much exactly as bloody as you'd imagine it to be. It's by far the single goriest thing in the entire game; not even Vlad, in either version, comes close, and even the Beasts don't have attacks this visceral!
  • Mythology Gag:
    • His third skill, "Derisive Heart of Steel" is 嗤う鉄心 in Japanese. The same term as what is usually translated as the "Mind of Steel" ending in Fate/stay night if he kills Sakura during the Heaven's Feel route.
    • The effects of his NP is just like what happens to Shirou's body in the Heaven's Feel route of Fate/stay night.
    • His My Room lines show that not even as an Alter he can stop himself from going against Cú Chulainn, in this case, it's against Cú Alter.
  • Not Quite Dead: He regains enough strength as indicated by a CG of his clenched hand making ripples in the water to deal a fatal blow to Kiara. Nasu explains on his blog that he had to take action against her after she mocked the people who had ostracized the nameless hero.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: Just like EMIYA with Shirou, he sees normal EMIYA as an eyesore as he's not hardened enough. EMIYA himself, meanwhile, is annoyed by his Alter because he thinks the Guns Akimbo and sword-guns are cool and wishes he thought of it himself.
  • Pistol-Whipping: Some of his attacks have him come in close to his enemies and strike them with his guns. Combined with Gun Twirling.
  • Physical Scars, Psychological Scars: In his higher ascensions, his skin starts developing glowing, golden cracks. These are reminiscent of Kintsugi, a type of pottery repair which preserves the signs of damage and repair as being a part of the history of the object. In context, it represents how Emiya Alter has destroyed himself in his attempts to protect humanity, and how being summoned to Chaldea and spending time with the player has started to heal him.
  • Scary Black Man: The different artist and new haircut inexplicably turned him oddly black-looking. Both English and Japanese fandoms have nicknamed him Bob (Japan's idea of a generic black guy name) and even in-universe Tamamo Cat is convinced he's from Detroit. And of course, he's a ruthless, brutal warrior. That said, his skin tone was edited in the NA release to exactly match that of regular Emiya. All artwork and even trailers were edited and the Detroit joke was dropped in favor of calling him edgy.
  • Sense Loss Sadness: During the Valentine event, he'll lament that he's lost all sense of taste when the protagonist gives him chocolate, but tells them that he appreciates the sentiment.
  • Shadow Archetype: Just as EMIYA is the original Shirou's shadow, Alter Archer is to Counter Guardian EMIYA. He is what Counter Guardian EMIYA would have degenerated into had he not gone through the character development he did in the previous titles. Losing everything he loved twice, including Taiga, broke him and he's abandoned everything, even his ideals, to follow the Counter Force's murderous orders. Archer at his worst in the original Fate/Stay Night.
  • Supernormal Bindings: This may be why he can't use Unlimited Blade Works normally. His final Ascension Art and his Noble Phantasm animation reveal that the gears in his Reality Marble are bound tightly by giant, heavy chains that keeps them from moving. To further back this up, one of his Ascension lines has him mention the "bonds of obligation" fading away.
  • That Man Is Dead: More so than normal EMIYA, he abandoned every aspect of "Emiya Shirou" to become a Counter Guardian. His third and final Ascension has his body breaking down from regaining his identity, as "Shirou" is completely incompatible with who he's become and what he's done.
  • Trauma Button: His Material profile has Jaguarman be the trigger, as he becomes speechless upon remembering an unspecified event involving Taiga and her child. It was later confirmed through the SERAPH manga that Taiga was part of Kiara's cult due to a mistaken belief that they can heal her son from his unnamed fatal disease. And he killed her without even recognizing her.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: An explicit characterization point for him—and the reason why he manifests as an Alter Servant. It comes from his Derisive Heart of Steel personal skill. It's similar to Mental Pollution, but the difference is that this skill functions by imposing an invariable Concept on him as a mode of indoctrination. This imposed pattern of reasoning holds the defense of the Human Order as his utmost priority and deems acceptable the abdication of all else per the modus operandi of the Guardians. More simply, it means that he completely accepts the goals and methods of the Counter Force, and will take any measures to fulfill them, which manifests in game as a large buff to his attacks for three cards.

"My name is Euryale. Right. I am a Goddess. It'll be one short life, but do your best to entertain me."

Second-born of the Gorgon sisters, goddesses born from the wishes of mankind for ideal idols, the embodiment of the yearning hearts of men.

She first appeared in Medusa's flashback in Fate/hollow Ataraxia. She is an ally in "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos".

  • Actually Not a Vampire: Despite not being a vampire, her blood-drinking is reflected in one of her Personal Skills, Blood-Sucking.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Compared with her basis in Classical Mythology, who is generally depicted as a hideous gorgon and quite obese.
  • The Ageless: Along with Stheno, this sets them apart from their little sister Medusa, who ages normally.
  • Animation Bump: She received an animation renewal with the Heaven's Feel III Premiere Commemoration Campaign, which shows her incorporating more fanciful flips into her attacks while firing arrows that now resemble pink lasers that can loop and home in on their targets.
  • Anti-Magic: Her Goddess' Essence and Magic Resistance passive skills make her very debuff-resistant.
  • Balance Buff: Her Rank Up Quest introduces a self Arts buff, greatly increasing her damage. She also got an interlude which buffed her Noble Phantasm's damage even further. Unusually for most NPs, no matter her NP level this increases her damage by a full third.note
  • Beast and Beauty: She's the Beauty to Asterios's Beast. Asterios likes her for not acknowledging him as Minotaurus, while she grows more and more attached to him thanks to his kind and protective nature. The relationship is so strong that even Asterios's Lostbelt counterpart, Minotaurus, has a faint memory of her when he's dying, meaning that their relationship was strong enough to affect Asterios's Spirit Origin on the Throne of Heroes.
  • Charm Person: When she feels embarrassed in her interlude she brainwashes the protagonist to make them refer to her extremely submissively.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Euryale has silver accessories whereas Stheno has gold accessories. This is also reflected in their rarities. In "Sanzang Coming to the West", the two sisters play the roles of Silver Horn and Gold Horn, with Medusa playing the role of Bronze Horn who doesn't exist in the original story.
  • Compelling Voice: Her charm skill, Alluring Voice. She actually uses it on the protagonist during her Interlude, leaving them unable to say anything but "Yes, lady goddess" and follow her will.
  • Coordinated Clothes: Her outfit is initially more or less identical to that of Stheno's, which emphasizes their nature as identical twins. However, this is subverted from her second Ascension onwards, as the outfit's design steadily gains in distinctiveness to represent her Divergent Character Evolution, until it becomes truly unique by her final Ascension.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: If her Situational Sword criteria aren't fulfilled (namely, if she's not facing a male enemy at all), she has a useless Charm skill and a generic, average damage Noble Phantasm that only has an enemy ATK debuff. In fact, her NP is unique in that what scales is the damage bonus against males rather than the base damage, meaning her damage suffers more than usual when not facing them.
  • Damsel in Distress: She ends up kidnapped during the "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos" by Hektor.
  • Divergent Character Evolution:
    • While Stheno and Euryale were practically interchangeable and identical in appearance when they first appeared in F/HA, in F/GO, Euryale's outfit differs a lot from Stheno's, having silver jewelry, adorning her headband with flowers and a much shorter dress. She also gets a weapon and more emphasis is placed on Euryale being younger than Stheno. She's generally more childish than Stheno, including being more energetic, vainer and more prone to loneliness. Another notable difference is that Euryale, despite her sadistic nature, still shows genuine sympathy and kindness towards people, whereas Stheno is very ambiguous about her feelings to other people.
    • In gameplay mechanics, Orion's Interlude upgrade finally differentiated them from being a "rich man's Euryale". Euryale still sits at the top of her anti-Male niche (especially after her Rank-Up Quest), but Orion no longer gets painted as a pricier second-place.
  • The Dividual: Stheno and Euryale have an odd quirk where they refer to each other as themselves. She's very lonely if you have her, but not Stheno.
  • Does Not Like Men: Eye of the Euryale actually weaponizes this; while it already deals 900% (1200% after her Interlude) damage to a single enemy (regardless of level), its damage explodes if the enemy unit is male (getting multiplied by 3.5x at max level!)
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: She uses her skill Alluring Voice on the protagonist during her interlude, regardless of their gender. In-game though, the skill only works on male opponents.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Her Noble Phantasm, Eye of the Euryale. It's the same kind as her sisters, Stheno and Medusa. Lacks the petrification effect that Medusa possesses, though.
  • Gorgeous Gorgon: She's a goddess of beauty and the middle of the three gorgon sisters.
  • Groin Attack: The animation renewal of her Noble Phantasm gives off this effect. A spiraling arrow that hits the enemies groin. Of course, she deals Special Attack damage on [Male] enemies.
  • Hates Being Alone: She mentions that she bonded with Asterios over their mutual loneliness in "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos".
  • The Hermit: She, Medusa and Stheno lived on their island without seeing anyone but the occasional "hero" for Medusa to kill when they tried to abduct Stheno and Euryale. So she doesn't like violent humans, or loud ones. Or ones that are human at all.
  • Holy Halo: She gets one with her Third Ascension.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She has this relationship with Asterios in "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos" and in Chaldea, with the latter often giving Euryale rides on his shoulders. She even mentions she likes riding him rather than walking in Medb's second Interlude.
  • Immortal Immaturity: She's much less mature than her little sister Medusa, who was able to physically grow. She tends to be a bit bratty, lonely when separated from her sisters, and has a rather pronounced streak of vanity.
  • Immortality: She's known as a perfect goddess and was able to live indefinitely, unlike the more important and powerful gods of Olympus. However, this didn't protect her from death via violence.
  • Macguffin Girl: In the "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos", Jason is attempting to capture her to create a utopia by sacrificing her, requiring the party to fight off attempts to abduct her.
  • Obvious Rule Patch: Main story bosses that are male and happen to be Sabers or Berserkers still pop up, despite how famous Euryale is for how useful she is in the Gawain fight in Camelot. Examples include but aren't limited to Yagyu in Shimosa and Sigurd in Lostbelt 2. These newer boss fights have break bars, so you can't one-shot them like Gawain. They also have immunity to Charm, meaning Euryale's second skill and the Charm on her Noble Phantasm won't be helping you in these fights.
  • Physical God: She's a goddess of beauty and neither ages nor grows. However, she had no ability to defend herself and relied on her younger sister Medusa to protect her until she eventually became a monster and devoured her. As a Servant, she's actually stronger than she was in life because the Servant container grants a basic amount of combat ability and crystallized her charm abilities in a bow, which rather confuses her because she never owned such a thing and feels her legend is being mixed up with Eros or Cupid's. In-game, this gives her the passive skill Goddess' Essence Ex (known as Core of the Goddess in the English version), which increases her damage and debuff resistance.
  • Readings Are Off the Scale: Both her Mana and Luck stats are ranked EX, thanks to her being a Divine Spirit.
  • Red Baron: The Far-Flier.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: In mythology, the Gorgons were Echidna's sisters because their parents were Ceto and Phorcys. Here, she is Echidna's grandaunt since Echidna's father is Medusa's son, Chrysaor.
  • Sexy Slit Dress: The simplest way to tell her apart from Stheno is by the slit in her dress reaching all the way to her hip.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Due to her build-up, skills and Noble Phantasm, certain players prefer using her over Orion because they serve pretty much the same function — and Euryale's kit works more consistently than Orion's (plus being a 3* means her NP is easier to max out and has lower deployment cost). This was further intensified by Palingenesis/Grail Ascension, which allowed players who favor her to bring her at Lv. 90 and potentially outperform Artemis in the same level — in the same way a grail ascended Sasaki Kojirou apparently outperforms certain Assassins in the same level.
  • Situational Sword: Almost all of Euryale's power lies in her anti-male prowess, between her Charm skill, high Noble Phantasm damage versus males, and Charm effect on her NP. She's also weaker if she's against a non-Saber or Berserker foe, or paired with non-Arts teams. Thankfully, these conditions are very easy and common to fulfill.
  • Smooch of Victory: At the end of the "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos", she gives the protagonist a kiss as a reward for protecting her and saving the world.
  • Status Infliction Attack: Her Charm and defense debuff.
  • The Tease: She's a goddess of beauty and is used to being adored. She'll flirt with people but generally doesn't mean it. That said, she's more sincere than Stheno at least and her profile indicates that she feels bad when she's overly manipulative. By bond level 5, she's also fallen properly in love with the protagonist, even if she hesitates to say it.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: While she's not the only recommended Servant (Orion and Archer Altria are also frequent recommendations), the Gawain fights in the "Sixth Singularity: The Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot" hit every single criteria for Euryale to shine (single target, Male, and her Charm-lock and Vampirism is extremely useful versus the constant enemy NP Charge), to the point where she's arguably the best singular unit. This trope, however, is downplayed, as Euryale's anti-Male niche is far from being uncommon and even with neutral damage modifiers, she will hit male enemies hard regardless, even when her Charm isn't applied. She, however, doesn't fare too well against the other Knights of the Round Table, due to Mordred being female, Tristan not being a Saber, and Lancelot having the defensive class advantage of a Ruler.
  • Token Mini-Moe: She's one of the younger-looking Servants, along with her twin sister Stheno. Notably, they are tied with Jack the Ripper and Medusa (Lancer) for the second-shortest of all characters at 134 cm.
  • Tsundere: Whereas Stheno is more ambiguous with how she feels about the protagonist, Euryale does have a nice side to her deep down. During her Interlude she even uses mind control on the protagonist to cover her embarrassment. Also, as the playable one gains Bond Level, she gets a lot more dere. Dr. Roman even tries to call her such in the "Third Singularity: Sealed Ends of the Four Seas: Okeanos" before he is cut short. To a lesser extent, she's also this towards Asterios in the Okeanos.
  • The Unexpected: Under the normal rules of a Holy Grail War, it would be impossible to summon a Divine Spirit like her as a Servant. However, due to the player already having met her sister Stheno in the previous Singularity, they aren't really as surprised by Euryale's revealing her divine nature.
  • Vanity Is Feminine: She's considered perfectly beautiful and knows it. She can be extremely vain as a result and expects to be praised and adored constantly.
  • World's Most Beautiful Woman: She's a goddess of youth and beauty and was thus highly desired by various Greek 'heroes' who would attempt to abduct her. What makes it worse is that while she's a goddess, she was completely defenseless when she was alive and had to rely on her younger sister Medusa to protect her, which ended badly.

"Thank you. That's right. Thank you. I am very happy. I do not quite understand what you mean by contract, but now you can continue to assist me. So let us head out. The night to eradicate all diseases has just begun."

The Angel of Crimea and the creator of modern medical care who has... wait, this can't be right. Nightingale is not a Santa, at least that is what she says. She does recall someone ringing a bell next to her which caused her Spirit Origin to change, but she is definitely not a Santa. Santa Claus is a man who sneaks into children's houses and give them candy in the middle of the night. She in the meanwhile is a medical nurse who rides around with her parasol and dispenses medicine with her machine gun needle. But we have spent too much time thinking about technicalities. It is time to make sure that everyone stays healthy during Christmas.

She is the year's Santa for the "Nightingale's Christmas Carol" event.

  • Abnormal Ammo: Her umbrella gun packs both medical and sterilizing agents.
  • Bad Santa: Played with. She has nothing but good intentions, but the idea of a Santa that hates candy and distributes medicine shots is terrifying to most of the children. She initially rejects her status as the new Santa, because she thinks her path is incompatible with the standard Christmas spirit. Caesar calls her a Santa that gives people what is good for them instead of what they want; and eventually, a pep talk from the previous Santas finally gets her to accept her role for the year.
  • Child Hater: Early on some of the characters think that she might hate children considering that she wants to give them medicine for Christmas. Turns out that she doesn't hate children as much as she fears them as during her time, child mortality rate was so high that anyone who survived through their childhood had the responsibility to take care of the next generation, Nightingale herself included.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: She's still the same old Nightingale with the same old Madness Enhancement EX, she's just gotten a bit more chill about it. Notably, she thinks that Santa is a monster for giving children tooth-decay inducing sweets and wishes that all the candy in the world could become medicine... though, just like her Berserker incarnation, she thinks working for it and achieving it herself is more important than just wishing.
  • Healing Shiv: Those ampules aren't just for show. Amusingly, her Noble Phantasm's demerit involves cleansing Ailment (damage over time) debuffs from the enemy after inflicting damage and removing offensive buffs.
  • Historical In-Joke: She is a Santa since the poem Santa Filomena by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is about her due to referencing her epithet "lady with a lamp."
  • Hospital Hottie: Her Final Ascension art is clearly meant to invoke this trope and it focuses on her fishnet-clad legs.
  • Last-Name Basis: In Japan, her Saint Graph lists her offically as "Nightingale (Santa)", leaving her given name out, just like her Berserker version.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: Nightingale never braided her hair in this, and it signifies that she's a bit more relaxed than her Berserker self, even if she still had her Madness Enhancement EX.
  • Lighter and Softer: Nightingale mentions in her fifth bond line that her mentality as her Santa self is far closer to before she went to Crimea and was still just a young woman from a well to do family learning to become a Nurse. This makes her less intense as she finds herself doing more mundane things like writing letters to her parents out of habit or making tea.
  • Magic Music: Her powers as a Santa come from a Holy Grail she has made into a bell. One of her skills involves ringing it to boost the entire party's attack and critical damage.
  • Master of None: While she has a diverse kit packed with healing, damage, buff purging, and even a party wide crit damage buff, plus a rare niche as an area-attack Quick-based Archer that can remove buffs, Nightingale nonetheless suffers a bit of an identity crisis, not really standing out much or having her abilities really synergize. For example, she has Madness Enhancement EX, the highest one in the game that someone like Raikou has, but has one Buster card, and no buffs to her Quick cards either.
  • The Medic: Downplayed heavily compared to her Berserker incarnation, but she does have a party-wide heal in her kit.
  • More Dakka: Her umbrella gun has a ludicrous firing rate of 20 rounds per second, for 1200 RPM. Her attacks, including her Noble Phantasm, mostly involve hurricanes of fire from it.
  • Neat Freak: Parodied as usual. Her umbrella gun's ammunition sterilizes everything it strikes.
  • Naughty Nurse Outfit: Her Final Ascension sees her wearing one outside of CEs for the first time, complete with Purely Aesthetic Glasses and Stocking Filler. While she is an actual nurse, she normally never wears these kinds of outfits, and since this outfit is only present in her Final Ascension art, it definitely fits the trope.
  • Parasol of Pain: Her main weapon is an umbrella that is also a machine gun, combining beauty and femininity with brutal firepower.
  • Parasol Parachute: Part of her Whole Costume Reference to Mary Poppins, she uses her umbrella to gracefully glide about for several of her attack animations, including her Noble Phantasm.
  • Refusal of the Call: Her entire event is set up when Quetzalcoatl Samba/Santa tries to turn Nightingale into the next Santa per Christmas tradition, only for her to reject the offer due to her own duties as a nurse and her own fear of children, leading to her only partially turning into the next Santa as Santa Power breaks out. Her character arc during the event is her realizing that she can be a "boring" Santa who gives out medicine as a present, for the sake of the girl who eventually became the Angel of Crimea.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Emphasized in her Bond CE, where she hallucinates that the player is actually her commander during the Crimean War and she back in her uniform. Her time as Santa seems only a pleasant and fading dream.
  • Support Party Member: Her skills are geared towards aiding her team rather than running touchdowns herself, including three types of damage amplification, targetable Guts and buff removal resistance, and limited buff removal and debuff cleansing.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: As a welfare Servant, while Nightingale herself is fairly decent in battle, she is also arguably the most accessible source of targetable buff removal resistance, especially since it also lasts for 3 full turns. The only other Servant who can grant this is Medea Lily, and she's a story-locked Servant. As a result, Nightingale shines fantastically well in difficult boss battles that use buff removal as part of their tricks, as she can protect your core DPS Servant with ease and even grant them a Guts buff and a massive 30% NP damage buff.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Her other weapons are bombs she pulls out of her handbag... which look exactly like giant pills.
  • Token Wholesome: The Santa outfits following Santa Alter's became more and more Stripperific with each year, with Altera the Sun(ta) and Quetzalcoatl Samba/Santa being half-naked for the entirety of their events. Nightingale Santa breaks this trend and has a 100% modest Santa-themed outfit, even more so than Santa Alter's dress. That said, her Final Ascension art is clearly fueled with a nurse fetish.
  • Whole Costume Reference: Nightingale's Santa outfit is meant to both invoke and parody Mary Poppins, especially her long coat, handbag, and umbrella. She even uses her umbrella to fly through the clouds at the start of her NP animation. Jack even lampshades this by stating she's "like that Poppins lady".
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Nightingale's refusal to become the 5th Santa servant at first indirectly lead to the main plot of her Christmas event as Astolfo went on to have the other servants battle it out to become the 5th Santa servant.

"Hahaha! For you to summon me like this, I see your luck has run out, Mongrel!"

Gilgamesh is considered to be one of mankind's first heroes: a demigod born from the union between King Lugalbanda of Uruk and the goddess Rimat-Ninsun. As ruler of Uruk, he was a transcendent, despotic being of two-thirds divinity, and may have been actually based on a real-life Sumerian king during the third millennium BC. His life and adventures were recorded in the Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the oldest surviving great works of literature, and it was said that at one point he owned every treasure in the world.

He first appeared in Fate/stay night as an Archer-class Servant of the Fifth Holy Grail War. He also appeared in Stay Night's prequel, Fate/Zero, Fate/EXTRA CCC as a playable Servant (discarding his Class altogether, as according to Word of God "there was no more reason to restrict his power with the Class system"), Fate/strange Fake, and Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA (as his younger incarnation). He made his Grand Order debut in the 3 Million Downloads Campaign as its limited Servant, and is the starring Servant of Battle in New York 2018.

  • Abnormal Ammo: Archers are usually expected to use some kind of projectile weapon like a bow, crossbow or even a sling. Gilgamesh uses his infinite treasury of Noble Phantasms as projectiles, all of which are fired with force enough to rip people in half and level buildings.
  • The Ace: Naturally. Just like in previous Fate works, he's one of the world's oldest heroes and it shows.
  • Adaptation Distillation: After a fashion. A big part of Gilgamesh's lore is that he possesses a vast number of Noble Phantasms in his treasury, and thus has in his possession the weaknesses or counters to a great number of Servants. Giving him a bajillion NPs or tons of different missile animations depending on who he's fighting would be difficult, however, and making his normal attacks do extra damage would be contextually hard to follow, so for simplicity's sake this advantage is instead rolled into his actual gameplay super-attack NP, Enuma Elish, where it manifests as a straight additional damage bonus against most Servantsexceptions. While Ea is still a very powerful sword in lore, it doesn't specifically get a bonus against any particular Servant itself.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In a stark contrast to his depiction in Fate/stay night and Fate/Zero Gilgamesh isn't in a villainous role and is willing to help the protagonist and acts in a manner akin to his Chaotic Good alignment. But that said, in a manner similar to Elisabeth from Fate/EXTRA, he still has some shade of the jerkass he's known for in previous Fate entries.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Gate of Babylon is basically this, since the numerous weapons are all Noble Phantasms in their own right, albeit this is more like "ALL Powers combined" due to possessing the prototypes for all Noble Phantasms. He also has a fondness for taking out his version of the weapon someone uses when possible and showing that his is even better.
  • Alternate Self: The version of him that appears at the very end of the Babylonia chapter is not the mainline Heroic Spirit Gilgamesh from the rest of the franchise, but rather the recently-deceased Caster Gilgamesh from the singularity that just ascended as a Heroic Spirit. He uses the same attacks and skills as his normal self, but he has different, more serious dialogue and a different sprite from any of the normal Gilgamesh's Ascensions.
  • Anime Hair: Interestingly, his hair gets spiky and stands up whenever he puts on his armor for no explicable reason and lets itself down when he takes it off, except for the second part of the final Babylonia boss fight.
  • Animation Bump: He is the first servant to receive two animation updates in contrast to other servants who only receive one. The first was released in the Fate/Zero event, updating his sprite and shows him summoning Ea before unleashing Enuma Elish. The second update was released in Battle of New York 2019, this time adding a galaxy-like spiral under his feet and adding more animations to Enuma Elish.
  • Arch-Enemy: Of Ishtar. Most of the tragedy throughout his life originated from her, all because he rejected and insulted her proposal, breaking an agreement the kings of Uruk had with the gods that would see humanity enslaved to them. (Not to mention that she definitely played a part in the eventual death of his Only Friend Enkidu.) In contrast to his more mature Caster counterpart, who's quelled his grudge enough that he deliberately treats her like a Sitcom Archnemesis at worst, this Gilgamesh despises her so much that he would immediately unseal Ea if faced with her presence in any form.
  • Arc Villain: "Battle of New York" has him taking over 2018's Tournament Arc and setting it in the Big Apple itself, with Madison Square Garden as the arena.
  • Art Evolution:
    • Coinciding with "Fate/Accel Zero Order" was an update to his art, giving him new attack and NP animations.
    • He gained another animation update to his attacks and NP in celebration of the 2019 "Battle of New York" event.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: He always has his arms folded. When attacking, when being hit, even when dying. The only exception is when he's using Ea.
  • Badass Cape: His golden armor on stage 2 card onward incorporates a fabulous red half-cape that reaches from his hips to just above the ground. Technically, this makes it more of a kilt. Still badass though.
  • Balance Buff:
    • Due to the game's Power Creep, Gilgamesh started to fall behind the newer SSR Servants in the tier list, eventually being regarded as one of the mechanically worst. However, he received an NP upgrade that apart from the flat damage increase also grants NP damage up, increased his Extra Attack hit count and his Collector skill got upgraded to Treasury of Babylon, which also grants him 20-30% NP charge up, meaning that at max level it pairs nicely with party NP buffs to allow instant usage.
    • He received a buff to his Charisma in New Years Eve 2023, turning it into "One Who Saw All EX". Aside from the attack boost, it also provides an NP Damage Buff to Sky servants and drops up to 20 stars.
  • BFS: He has access to every BFS ever made through the Gate of Babylon. His signature weapon, Ea, is about the size of a longsword.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At the climax of the Babylonia chapter, the living Gilgamesh, having died shortly before, manifests himself as a Servant in the Archer class to help the protagonist against Tiamat, wielding his full power to protect his kingdom.
  • Bling of War: Well, it's Gilgamesh. Scarily enough, as his card stages progress, he loses armor, finally gaining Power Tattoos upon losing his breastplate.
  • Born Winner: He's two-thirds god, has a powerful Clairvoyance Noble Phantasm called "Sha Naqba Imuru" on par with Solomon and Merlin, and is equipped with a vault full of everything mankind has ever created or comprehended.
  • Breakout Villain: Having first featured in Fate/stay night as an antagonist with a rather minor role in two of the routes, Gilgamesh has since appeared as a major antagonist in Fate/Zero, as one of the four playable Servants in Fate/EXTRA CCC and as one of the Servants in Fate/strange Fake, as well as other minor features.
  • Character Catchphrase: He's fond of calling people "Mongrel!!"
  • Chain Pain: After his animation update, he now uses Enkidu for his Quick and Arts attack.
  • Critical Hit Class: His main strength comes from his ability to rack up Critical Stars far more easily than other Servants, due to the fact that all of his cards (even his Buster cards) deal their damage across five hits thanks to his unique attack animations, and then amass them together with his Collector skill to all but guarantee that his attacks will score critical hits. Pair him up with someone like Waver to boost his critical damage even further or Merlin who can passively generate Critical Stars, give them a copy of the Fragment of 2030 craft essence, and laugh as Gilgamesh unloads crit after crit after crit until Enuma Elish is ready. It won't take long with him landing crits on his arts cards and once Collector is upgraded to Treasury of Babylon.
  • Cuteness Proximity: One of the My Room lines he gets in Battle in New York 2019 has him, of all people, succumbing to this around Saber Lily. This leads to him cursing out Merlin and then immediately forgiving him for making him feel envy for the first time in his life.
"So pretty that my chest hurts...! I am currently feeling jealous of others for the first time! Curse you, Merlin! But I absolutely forgive you!!"
  • Defrosting Ice King: He treats the protagonist as a mere handservant at first, considering the mere act of summoning to mean that they've exhausted all of their luck. After reaching his final Ascension stage, he compliments the protagonist and backhandedly thanks them for their efforts before telling them that he'll start pulling out his greatest treasures for their sake. Also showcased with his birthday quotes, scoffing at the protagonist when they mention it's their birthday. After you reach Bond Level 4 with him, he'll admonish the protagonist for not telling him about their birthday in advance, saying that he should have gotten a week's notice with the implication that he would have done something for them in celebration.
"Your birthday, is it? Fool, you should grant me at least a week's notice!"
  • Difficult, but Awesome: He's a huge example of this, Gameplay and Story Segregation notwithstanding. Gil isn't willing to just listen to whoever actually summons him, but should a Master earn his respect and meet his high standards, then he's more than willing to bring out some of his more powerful weapons from his Gate of Babylon, without so much as a complaint. His final Ascension quote and picture shows this, depicting Gilgamesh charging up Ea with a cocky smirk gracing his lips.
"Hmph. Well done for a mere man. Allow me to reward your determination with mankind's most ancient treasure. Of course, this is for you and you alone."
  • Entitled to Have You: In regards to Altria. Although not as present as it was in Stay Night (he doesn't have any My Room dialogue regarding her, and her comments about him suggest he's either given up or is biding his time), it's still there to an extent, as demonstrated during the first Christmas event, where he writes to Santa Alter to try and get her to visit. To the surprise of no one, the protagonist and Saber Alter stand him up and don't visit.
  • Evil Laugh: Likes to give these when attacking. Though the evil part is subverted, as while Gilgamesh isn't the nicest Servant to have, he clearly acknowledges the protagonist as his Master and in his own Tsundere way and has made no inclination to betray them.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Unsurprisingly, his arrogance and haughty demeanor hasn’t exactly gotten him many friends. Any Servant who talks about Gilgamesh doesn’t exactly have many positive things to say about him, at most giving him a certain level of respect and are surprised that Gil’s actually willing to lend the protagonist a helping hand. Then again, from Gil's perspective he doesn't need any friends as long as Enkidu is around.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation:
    • In lore, his Gate of Babylon contains various counters against particular Servant. In gameplay, this advantage is embedded into Enuma Elish which itself doesn't have any discriminating advantage against Servants on its own in lore.
    • Speaking of Enuma Elish, he is extremely hesitant to use the Sword of Rupture and will only do so against a Worthy Opponent or a serious threat. In gameplay, he uses it without question even against the weakest Servant or the simplest Mook as long as his NP gauge is full. Enemy Gilgamesh also tends to use Ea a lot due to short NP gauge and a skill that charges one tick on NP.
    • In lore, his Golden Armor makes him borderline invulnerable, and even without it his durability isn't too bad (when powered by a proper master he has an Endurance rating of B and a Magic Resistance of C). In fact, the only thing to have slain him while wearing his armor was a point-blank Excalibur from Altria, and while most anything else would be No Body Left Behind from that he was still more or less in one piece and able to give some last words before succumbing. In Grand Order, for gameplay purposes, he's a Glass Cannon regardless whether if he is wearing his armor.
  • Glass Cannon: He is capable of monstrous damage output, especially on enemy Servants, but he lacks any form of survivability whatsoever without any outside support.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: Given how the Nasuverse generally runs on Older Is Better, it shouldn't be much of a shock that Gilgamesh, as the world's first hero, and thus the strongest, has gold as his primary color scheme.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Despite his haughtiness, Gilgamesh is not that arrogant in this game. He acknowledges the protagonist as his master and intends to take the battles before him seriously as seen in his Interludes.
    • The new My Room lines he gets in 2019 further highlight this.
      • He's clearly happy to see Enkidu again, though he vehemently denies it.
"No, it is not as if I was happy. Not really. But are you tranquil? While he's my friend, he doesn't make distinctions. He's "a knife that cuts well". Handle him with care."
      • He's delighted to see that Ereshkigal has been able to get out of her gloomy surroundings and is thriving in Chaldea.
      • He compliments BB on her personal development, though he does ask her to behave herself.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • His 3rd stage ascension is his "serious" mode from Fate/hollow Ataraxia, having discarded his upper body armor and wielding Ea and Enkidu with his full might.
    • His original NP was the same way he used Ea back in the original Fate/Stay Night visual novel (hunched over as its power surges forward in a beam), with it drawing inspiration from the first Fate anime adaptations. His updated NP animation is based on the one from Fate/EXTRA CCC, where he channels its raw power and launches it at the enemy.
    • His Arts attack animation is the multi-directional Gate of Babylon from ufotable's UBW anime. His Quick attack is using Enkidu, his other NP.
    • His new Extra Attack animation has him use the sword, axe, and spear he liked to use in CCC, but the move itself is based more on one of his EX moves from Unlimited Codes - he first engages in melee with the opponent, constantly switching weapons as he does so, then he ensnares the enemy with Enkidu before unleashing a Storm of Blades from the Gate of Babylon on them.
    • One of his new skill casting animation from his second revamp is him sitting on a throne, the same one he used in Fate/Zero. He also stated that he needs rest and tries not to overwork, referencing his Caster self's Workaholic-ness in Babylonia.
  • Odd Friendship: With Ozymandias, as their egos are so large that neither king really notices how they're praising themselves and not the other.
  • Oddly Shaped Sword: Ea, the Sword of Rupture, which the material book admits is closer to a staff than an actual sword. It spins before launching Enuma Elish. This is because it is technically not a sword but rather a magic staff vaguely shaped like one, actually predating the concept of a sword.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While Gilgamesh has gone all-out before in the franchise, his appearance at the very end of Babylonia is the first time that he's serious. For the last phase of the battle against Tiamat, Gilgamesh has more serious lines, no longer laughing whenever he attacks but instead coldly telling his opponent to die. This is because Uruk sacrificed everything to render Tiamat vulnerable, and the last thing Gilgamesh would ever do is make his kingdom's sacrifice be in vain.
  • Power Floats: He floats during some of his attacks, as well as when moving from one battle screen to another.
  • Red Baron: King of Heroes or Humanity's Oldest Hero.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: They're a sign of Divinity in the Nasuverse, which means that they're usually very powerful. Being the greatest Heroic Spirit and humanity's oldest hero, Gilgamesh obviously qualifies.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: Gilgamesh's second interlude heavily implies that he knows Dr. Roman is actually Solomon but chooses to keep his mouth shut because he knows the "other clairvoyants" are being tight-lipped about it for good reason.
  • Semi-Divine: A leg up on most examples, being two-thirds god and one-third human.
  • Simple, yet Awesome:
    • His kit is extremely simplistic and straightforward thanks to being a year one unit. He has a basic party wide damage buff, an NP generation increasing skill, and a crit star absorbing skill (later buffed to provide 30% NP), but thanks to his high stats, his powerful NP and the fact that it gives him pretty much what he needs (especially with his third skills Balance Buff) he's still considered one of the best units of the game. Plus, thanks to good hit counts on his cards, he's able to be a strong offensive damage dealer who also can reliably charge his NP and also generate a decent amount of crit stars.
    • Lore wise, Gilgamesh is a top tier Servant with enough firepower to end a Holy Grail War in one night, should he actually take the fight seriously. Unlike Karna and Achilles, who are mana guzzlers that can leave their Master bone-dry and even paralyze them due to upkeep, Gilgamesh is compatible with nearly any Master, and the only expenditure of mana required is him opening the Gate of Babylon, allowing him to fire as many weapons as he so pleases.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: Treats Ishtar this way in Chaldea. Ordinarily he would release Ea the moment he laid eyes on her, but since she's manifested using a human as a vessel (and not just any human, but the daughter of his former Master) and said manifestation has tempered her worst traits, he's perfectly content to just watch her screw things up for herself.
  • Situational Sword: Inverted in that his NP hits all Servants for extra damage save those who don't have the Power of the Star (which includes most of the Star-attribute Servants). Essentially, it has situational uselessness instead.
  • Smug Super: He has a pretty high opinion of himself, for good reasons.
  • Spam Attack:
    • Due to a combination of the Archer class's small charge meter (filling up every three turns) and his Golden Rule skill bolstering said charge meter by one tick, it's not uncommon for an enemy Gilgamesh to spam Ea. This is especially ironic, given how Gilgamesh is canonically reluctant to use Ea against those he does not deem worthy.
    • The "King" Gilgamesh from the second Nero Festival Exhibition Match is programmed to spam Ea per turn if his buffs are removed.
  • Storm of Blades: His attack animation has him draw out weapons from the Gate of Babylon and then fire them.
  • Sword Beam: Enuma Elish creates a magical tornado of energy to rip the enemies (and the world) apart.
  • Theme Music Powerup: His NP theme from Fate/EXTRA CCC, "Cosmic Air", plays as he uses Enuma Elish. And during his dramatic entrances in Babylon, he is followed by a new arrangement of his old "The Golden King" theme from Fate/stay night, though this is more associated with his Caster version.
  • Tranquil Fury: The final boss of the Babylonia chapter features a version of Gilgamesh with unique voice lines. No longer laughing and mocking his enemies or bragging about his power, for once he's deadly serious and pissed.
  • The Unfought: During the first Christmas event, he writes to Santa Alter, who, as a Saber-face, he believes that he is entitled to, and not only is the fifth night titled "Little Gilgamesh"note , but he appears at the start of the fifth night, revealing his intention. Predictably, the protagonist and Santa Alter decide Screw This, I'm Outta Here, and don't even meet with Gilgamesh, much less fight him; instead, they end up fighting Nursery Rhyme and Jack the Ripper.
  • Ur-Example: Several examples. Gilgamesh is the first and therefore greatest hero in Proper Human History, and the king of the unified humanity who owned every treasure in the world, including the prototypes for almost every Noble Phantasm which are all more powerful than their later derivatives.
  • Whole Costume Reference: His Golden Plate Armor is a Shout-Out to the Gilgamesh from The Tower of Druaga. Confirmed by Nasu in the Encyclopedia of Type Moon.
  • The Worf Effect: In "Fate/Accel Zero Order". Everyone during the Holy Grail War knows that Gilgamesh is one of, if not the toughest Servant in the running for the Holy Grail. So when the newcomer protagonists and Lord El-Melloi II manage to amass a team of Servants to gang up on Gilgamesh during his dinner with Iskander, Iskander immediately elevates Lord El-Melloi to Worthy Opponent status and, instead of remaining neutral, directly aligns against the protagonists just for a challenge.
  • World's Strongest Man: Commentary by Nasu about Fate/stay night and Fate/Zero calls him the strongest Heroic Spirit normally summonable, capable of ending a Holy Grail War by himself in one night. Later Type-Moon works, especially Grand Order, introduce some Servants in same genral tier of power and there are a small number of unusual Servants (all of them Godlike beings or eldritch beasts) outright more powerful, but he remains at top of the pack for normal Servants.
  • Wolverine Publicity: One of the most iconic Fate characters alongside Altria and EMIYA. He has appeared in almost all entries of the Fate series! He also has two other versions of himself available for summoning, his child version and his Caster version.
  • You Are What You Hate: It's both implied and stated that for all his dislike towards and rivalry with the gods, Gilgamesh is much more like them in thought and perspective than he is a human being. After all, he's two-thirds god and only one-third man.
  • Younger and Hipper: While not literally this compared to his Caster self (unlike Servants who actually do represent a character's younger side, Archer Gilgamesh has no problem remembering events all across his life), Archer Gilgamesh acts a lot like he did in his younger days, as opposed to Caster Gilgamesh actually showing the maturity Gilgamesh legendarily acquired.

"Hello Master. My name... let me see... you can just call me Gil."

A younger form of the Hero-King of Uruk. Given his reputation for pride and tyranny, the very nature of this form remains unknown — either he took the Elixir of Youth or he was actually directly summoned just like this. Either way, Gilgamesh in this form is much kinder and wiser than his adult self.

He first appeared in Fate/hollow Ataraxia. An alternate version is a major ally/villain in Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA. He debuted for the White Day 2016 event.

  • Ambiguous Situation: His profile is unclear on whether he ate the herb of immortality to de-age himself, or if he was just summoned as a child. It was also unclear for a time whether this Kid Gil came from the hollow ataraxia or Prisma Illya continuities, until Illya's interlude confirmed it to be the former.
  • Badass Boast: The dialog for his Noble Phantasm Gate of Babylon
Gilgamesh: Barbaric, but this too is strategy. This is how you use treasures.
  • Balance Buff:
    • Has a fairly standard NP interlude to boost his damage.
    • The fifth Valentine's Day event gave him a Rank Up Quest that buffs Rosy-Cheeked Adonis C to Burgeon of the Sage King B, which not only boosts the Charm chance from a maximum of 75% to 100% at max level, but also gives it a Crit Star Regen of 5~10 Crit Stars per turn for three turns.
  • Chain Pain: His standard attack is to skewer his enemies with Enkidu.
  • Dirty Kid: He's far nicer than his adult self, but he appreciates the female form all the same. He spends the second part of his Interlude trying to get Mash to wear a Stripperific swimsuit, stating that he knows she has curves in all the right places and he wants to see her "dynamite body." His Valentines interlude shows that he's running a day spa on the side and the brochure he gives you for it has photos of a bunch of servants in bathing suits and other revealing outfits. If you express more interest in the beefy male servants, he's glad he's able to give you something you want, but states that he's going to stick with the rooms with the hot female servants.
  • Friend to All Children: In his original appearance in Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, he got along very well with other children, leading a soccer team to victory with much applause.
  • Future Me Scares Me: He dislikes his adult self a lot, to the point of singling out Goldie as the one thing he hates in My Room conversations. Gilgamesh is unaware of this since Ko-Gil asks you to hide him so they won't cause a fight.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Ko-Gil doesn't have the raw stats of his older counterpart, and his hit count isn't as good with only 3 hits instead of 5 on his normal attacks, but he keeps his Charisma and Golden Rule skills and trades his Collector skill for a potentially life saving charm skill. His Noble Phantasm also trades the increased damage against Servants of Enuma Elish for a variety of debuffs and a higher hit count, making it potentially more useful than Enuma Elish.
  • Has a Type: When asked what he likes in My Room conversation, he thinks of women and says he likes them calm and quiet (the opposite of the bossy, opinionated Ishtar).
  • In-Series Nickname: In his Interlude, he lets the protagonists call him Gil.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is sweet, adorable, perfect and kind of ashamed at how he turned out. When he reverts back to adult form he's still arrogant, but he's alot nicer than before.
  • Marked Change: For his third and fourth ascensions, the same flowing red tattoos that appear on his adult version appear on Young Gil as well.
  • Mundane Utility: He still uses Gate of Babylon to store all sorts of junk, like casually pulling out a swimsuit for Mash in his interlude.
Dr. Roman: He did it so casually, but I feel like I just witnessed a Noble Phantasm being utilized in an extremely wasteful way.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Comments on his older self in My Room. He dislikes him a lot.
    • His fighting style, using Enkidu for attacks, came from his incarnation at Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya.
    • Sha Naqba Imuru, his other Noble Phantasm, come from the PS Vita version of F/SN: Realta Nua's karuta minigame. Its description in his profile confirms it as the unnamed future sight that Gilgamesh uses in CCC to peek on humanity's birthright of "sailing the stars" and to win his chess game against Rani.
    • His Valentine return gift is a ticket to WakuWaku Land, a water park he owns in Fate/hollow Ataraxia.
    • Illya's Interlude reminds us that she once overpowered Enuma Elish. This captures Kid Gil's interest enough to challenge her to a "rematch".
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He has red eyes like his older self. However the symbolic meaning of the trope is subverted in his case as he is an innocent and kind child, and not a dangerous arrogant maniac like his older self.
  • Seers: It's stated in his in-game profile that Child Gil has the Sha Naqba Imuru Noble Phantasm, which essentially grants him a powerful form of clairvoyance (something that makes for a good cheat skill in card games). His adult self has the same ability, but finds it boring and suppresses it as much as possible most of the time.
  • Sleep-Mode Size: Gilgamesh ingested an elixir of youth, which reverts him to a child. Or maybe this version is the kid Gilgamesh himself.
  • Trickster Mentor: His "rematch" with Illya in her interlude (in quotation marks because this isn't the Kid Gil she fought in Prisma Illya) is more like helping her remember how her Noble Phantasm works.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: To the point where after reverting himself to that age, even he is appalled at what a jerk he turned out to be. Though he still does have a bit of an edge to him. In his original series Shirou even wonders how such a nice kid could grow up to be a pompous tyrant.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: In his third Ascension and beyond he opts to go shirtless beneath his hoodie.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Ingesting the potion of youth has caused Gilgamesh to lose much of his magical energy, meaning that in this state he can't create a large Storm of Blades as easily (his adult self's normal usage of the Gate of Babylon is relegated to Ko-Gil's Limit Break) nor supply Ea with enough mana to use it effectively. However, Ko-Gil compensates for this by both lacking the ego that causes his adult self to hold back and by having more skill with his limited weaponry. As a result, his fighting style mainly involves launching a small handful of treasures at a time to scout out his opponents' abilities and let him hit their weak points.

Origin: Russia (19th century)
First appearance: Fate/Grand Order (as Caster)
Background development: Hikaru Sakurai

"I, Helena Blavatsky, have gracefully changed my Spirit Origin! I guess anything is possible if you try! ...Though there must be a logical explanation for this. This shouldn't be a simple thing to do, right?"

To win Ishtar's race, Helena has utilized the powers of the mysterious Mahatmas to create a new Noble Phantasm and armed her with a NYARF gun created by genius inventors Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla, surely now no one can stop this trio!

She appears in the second Summer event "Dead Heat Summer Race / Death Jail Summer Escape" as the main racer of Team Satisfaction H∴T∴E, alongside her partners Edison and Tesla. She appears again in the fourth and fifth Summer events.

  • BFG: Courtesy of Edison, this is the reason she's an Archer as it overrides her bike in terms of what defines her Servant class.
  • Bland-Name Product: Her weapon is a NYARF gun, and is clearly not a Nerf gun. No sir.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Combined with how her ammo tanks resemble his light bulb shoulder pads, the small four-pointed golden star Helena sports in her second Ascension has her echo much of Edison's aesthetic.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Her school swimsuit originally was seen in the "Meat Wars" Craft Essence from the first summer event, which is lampshaded in "Dead Heat Summer Race" by Tesla and Edison.
  • Fastball Special: Thunderdome can supercharge and fire her Kumara Wheel out to give her some extra distance and speed as a last resort.
  • First-Name Basis: This is most apparent with this version. As the game has shifted from using Last-Name Basis to First-Name Basis on her, she's far more commonly called by her first name than the Caster version. Only a few characters like Holmes or Tesla call her by her last name, whereas Edison alternates between the two bases. In battle, her name is still displayed as "Blavatsky".
  • Flying Saucer: She now has control over multiple UFOs as seen in her Noble Phantasm animation.
  • Freud Was Right: Her Final Ascension art has her in her two-piece sitting with the barrel of her gatling gun between her legs while twirling her headphones and giving a very suspicious and possibly sensual smile... all while the Nerf shells of her gun rain down all around her. Add in her actual age and it's hard to imagine it's just innuendo...
  • Huge Gun Tiny Girl: She has a massive minigun that's bigger than her.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Her Extra Attack has her shifting to her second Ascension form (provided she's not already in it) and firing a golden beam from her hands.
  • Monowheel Mayhem: She rides the Kumara Wheel, a motorcycle which is pretty much a reference to Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds (specifically Jack Atlus's Wheel of Fortune) and her Noble Phantasm has her do what is basically a Synchro Summon. Hilariously, the bike is just something she can manifest, and isn't something Edison & Tesla built for her. It doesn't even necessarily need their support vehicle (but she appreciates their help anyway). She had intended to use her bike to make herself a Rider, but Edison's gun changed that.
  • Nerf Arm: She uses what basically amounts to a Nerf gatling gun and it's just as deadly as an actual gun. Thanks, Edison.
  • Older Than She Looks: Just like in her main class, but more pronounced in this one. At one point, she even pulls the age card against Gorgon and her other racers bickering over how to escape from the prison in part two of the event, still wearing her silly elementary school swimsuit.
Helena: "We don't have time for this sort of nonsense... Ugh, I swear! You should listen to your elders, you know!"
Edison: "I am most impressed that you are able to say such things to both a monster from the Age of Gods and heroes from ancient times, Helena. Most audacious indeed."
Professor M: "However, it is precisely those sorts of heroes who tend to die young. In that sense, it is entirely plausible that she is the eldest among us, at least in terms of mental age." [The professor then trails off insisting that he himself is still young at heart]
  • School Swimsuit: Her starting outfit is this.
  • Shout-Out: Her ending cutscene has her and her teammates imitating the ending of Grease (albeit platonically) when their vehicles inexplicably gain the ability to fly.
  • Stripperific: Her third Ascension has her switch to an all-black ensemble of a hat, headphones, a two-piece bikini, a pair of gloves, boots, thigh-highs and a coat that lies open at the front. Her final ascension has her taking the coat and headphones off.
  • Team Mom: Her grandmotherly disposition is stronger in this Class. As always, she's the levelheaded one in her team, which consists of the always bickering Tesla and Edison.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: Especially glaring after the racers are imprisoned by Medb as she's the only one whose portrait has her weapon taken away from it.

Illya: It's the beach!!! I'm Illya! I'm an Archer, and I brought a swimsuit! So let me say it again... We're at the beach!!! ...Wait, we're not at the beach? We're...at a lake...? Well it doesn't matter where I am as long as I can swim! So let's go make a bunch of fun summer memories!
Ruby: But there was no way for Illya to know that this was just the beginning of a tragic tale...

Illya might be a magical girl, but she is also a schoolgirl. And now that summer has come, it is time for her to enjoy the summer vacation! With her magical girl costume turning into a swimsuit and Ruby having transformed into a water hose, she can throw her worries to the side and enjoy her break! So please take care of her until her IQ has recovered so that she can really think about her summer memories.

She appears during the fifth Summer event.

  • Animal-Eared Headband: She wears cat-eared hoods in both her first and third ascensions. In her third, the hood is part of a see-through raincoat.
  • Butt-Monkey: Second only to Yu during "Chaldea Thriller Night" as she's terrorized by pretty much everything. Even her Bond CE is her hiding under her blanket after Ruby switched her Magical Girl anime DVD with a horror DVD.
  • Children Are Innocent: Literally a plot point in "Chaldea Thriller Night" as the monsters' Horror Movie Wouldn't Hurt a Child tendencies severely weakens them if she takes the lead. (Otherwise it's a Hopeless Boss Fight where you have to Hold the Line for 8 rounds because the killer is invincible for the first half of the horror movie.)
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She rather quickly picks up on Sessyoin Lily being a potential rival to hers as she is also a young Magical Girl who tries to get near Master.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: For her Noble Phantasm, she reverts to her usual Prisma Illya look and summons multiple versions of herself from different timelines, which then proceed to slam into her targets and explode.
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: Her Noble Phantasm explicitly refers to a rainbow and the copies each glow with a color of the rainbow as they ram and explode on the enemy.
  • Foreshadowing: Way back in the Prisma Cosmos event, Ruby suggests Illya should wear a swimsuit, though Illya claims that "A magical girl who fights in a swimsuit is someone who should be committed to a hospital!"
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: While it has many unusual inconsistencies, Illya's Summer Vacation! (Children) skill is the only such skill in the game to apply bonuses only to specific Ascensions of characters. For instance, Nursery Rhyme's storybook form and any of Kama's later Ascensions aren't children, and only get the boost in those forms.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Illya's Summer Vacation! (Children) applies an ATK boost to any "children" servants (across from the obvious, it applies to characters who are Older Than They Look and have an appearance of a child, or servants that are summoned as child appearance such as Hans Christian Andersen or Jack the Ripper). However, who classifies as a "child" in Fate/Grand Order is very inconsistent. For example, the ATK boost applies to Erice Utsumi and Alexander, which both of whom are teenagers (to put into perspective, both Erice and Medea Lily are at the same age of 14 years old, yet Medea Lily does not have this trait). Likewise, both Euryale and Stheno have the appearance of a child, yet they do not have this trait while the Lancer Medusa does note . And Asterios, a gigantic hulking minotaur man, has this trait due to having the developmental and emotional mind of a child. Additionally, Van Gogh has this trait possibily due to her being Born as an Adult but other servants that were Born as an Adult such as the Sakura Five, some Alter servants such as Jeanne Alter and Cu Alter, and certain Homunculi servants in the likes of Frankenstein and Sieg lack this trait.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair in low-tied pigtails for her first ascension, and in higher ones for her second, fitting with her young and girlish nature.
  • Making a Splash: She mainly attacks by firing water out of her hose.
  • Only Sane Girl: Despite having Took a Level in Dumbass due to the Summer Saint Graph, Illya still manages to be the most grounded of the Summer cast, just by having appropriate reactions to the chaos and horror around her (that is, recognizing the others' madness and being a scream queen). Even when trying to get in on it herself, she just can't compete with the sheer lunacy of the others.
  • Situational Sword: Her Summer Vacation! (Children) skill is effectively an improved version of her Caster self's Child of Nature skill that also provides an ATK boost from 10-20% for any "Children" Servants on her team for three turns.
    • Interestingly, the "Child" tag is so situational, two Servants have or don't have it solely by which Ascension they're using; Kama is only one in her base Ascension, while Nursery Rhyme is not one in her base Ascension.
  • Water Guns and Balloons: Ruby has transformed herself into a water hose that Illya carrier around, with her being able to fire streams of water that can damage enemies. By the Third Ascension, Ruby has now become a minigun that still shoots water.

"The goddess Ishtar has come in response to your summons. As the Goddess of Beauty, I rule over Venus, but also govern fertility, war, and destruction, so you had best respect me deeply... Huh? Long time no see? What are you talking about? I have never seen you before in my life... I don't know you... but... Well, I suppose you're not bad for a human, if a bit sassy."

A goddess of Venus, who rules over harvests, prosperity and war. Said to be the most beloved goddess by the other deities, this form is taken by possessing Tohsaka Rin, a powerful magus and original master of EMIYA in another timeline, as pseudo-Servant. Ishtar is notorious for her promiscuity towards people (and gods) she likes, but also deep enmity to any who dare to defy her, including a certain King Gilgamesh of Uruk.

She debuted in "The Little Santa Alter" gacha as its limited Servant and is a major character in the Babylonia chapter, being an antagonist-cum-ally. She also kicks off the second Summer event in this form before shifting to her Rider form. She also appears in the Moonlight/Lostroom OVA.

  • A-Cup Angst: She's annoyed with Rin being relatively petite compared to her true appearance, which she implies is very well-endowed.
  • Animation Bump: She received one for the Babylonia anime, in general adding more shiny effects to her various energy attacks and adding in a new animation where she'll drop-kick her target while slamming down her spinning Manna boat on them at the same time.
  • Arch-Enemy: She despises Gilgamesh since he rejected and insulted her marriage proposal, breaking a standing contract between the kings of Uruk and the gods. Ever since that, she's tried to make his life a living hell. Babylonia on other hand has her act less like an archenemy and more like a Sitcom Archnemesis. But her proper archenemy is Enkidu, who even tries to kill her when they attempt to help the protagonist in Solomon, and seeks to throw animal parts at her in My Room dialogue.
  • Ascended Extra: In the manga adaptation of Abyssal Cyber Paradise, SE.RA.PH., Ishtar is summoned as one of B.B.'s Sentinels despite not having nearly as important a role in the game itself.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
    • In this version of the story, the reason she initially journeyed into the underworld to see Ereshkigal was because she was worried about her. Ereshkigal agreed to look after the underworld but more than anything wanted to see the sun, flowers and living humans. So Ishtar tried to persuade her to ignore her responsibilities and go have some fun for once, which pissed her off because she can't or won't do that. At the end of the Babylonia Singularity, when she realizes the sacrifice Ereshkigal made to empower the heroes to defeat Tiamat, she is notably concerned and begs her to reconsider, recognizing that her sister has found someone who makes her happy.
    • The anime adaption really showcases Ishtar's distress as she hold Ereshkigal while she disappears in her arms. She falls completely silent for a moment, followed by quietly saying only a single word out loud, 'Idiot'.
  • Badass Driver: At one point, Gilgamesh recounts how Ishtar got the god of the Abyss, Enki, drunk and robbed him blind of all his treasures and stole his divinities, and then raced out of the Underworld on her Maanna boat so fast that all the humans and gods who witnessed it could only gaze on in awe, including himself. And according to Ishtar, she managed all of that with only manual gear and a Nitro Boost (the automatic transmission was broken that day). Only through the fact the engine stalled out just before the harbor in Uruk was a tragedy averted.
Gilgamesh: The gods and humans that were watching screamed out, "Take a look at that driving technique!? Who knew that the Boat of Heaven could be used for drift racing! No one can catch up to that! Surely her driving mastery will go down in legend as the Drunk and the Divine: Underworld Drift! No one in Uruk could ever be faster!"
  • Bad Liar: At the start of "Dead Heat Summer Race," she barges into the protagonist's room acting very suspiciously and talking about how she just wants to help humanity and such. Every time she starts lying about what she actually wants from this mysterious new singularity, she makes an aside that either contradicts what she just said or shows how misleading she's being. The protagonist catches on, Mash does not. In fact, at one point Mash believes her so wholeheartedly that she feels a touch guilty.
  • Balance Buff: Her Noble Phantasm received an Interlude buff that in addition to the flat buff in base damage of up to a third also gives 20 crit stars after. Not only does her NP hit harder, but this also makes it even easier for her to get monster crits.
  • Brutish Bulls: Tamed the Bull of Heaven, Gugalanna, and has it as her trump card. Unfortunately in Babylonia she lost it at some point, which is implied to be because Fillia summoned Gugalanna from the Babylonia Singularity.
  • Butt-Monkey: She gets humiliated, overlooked, and treated as a joke throughout Babylonia. Whether it's Gilgamesh and the people of Uruk treating her as a daily nuisance, getting hilarious injuries when she's defeated, shrunken to minuscule size, having her sister's tests always insult her, losing the Bull of Heaven, getting a sign placed on her that says "I'm a useless goddess", etc.
  • Colony Drop: Her Noble Phantasm, An Gal Tā Kigal Shē, has her shoot the concept of the planet Venus at her enemies. Interestingly, because it's a conceptual Venus, other Venus-based Divine Spirit Servants (like Quetzalcoatl) can in-lore outright No-Sell it, or even swat it back at her. It's why she can't just storm Medb's prison in the "Death Jail Summer Escape".
  • Crash-Into Hello: In Babylonia she basically drops out of the sky and lands on the protagonist. To their surprise, they don't recognize her, but she's still pretty cordial about the whole thing.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: At times she can be a nuisance or a completely useless idiot. However - and no doubt largely thanks to Rin's influence - her heart will ultimately end up in the right place, and when the chips are down she can be an incredibly powerful asset if something needs blowing up.
  • Decomposite Character: Ereshkigal's Materials imply that she is one half split off from the goddess Inanna with Ishtar being the other half. Space Ishtar's My Room dialogue confirms this.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Lampshaded. Her introduction to Frankenstein trying to sway her into the Ishtar Cup in "Dead Heat Summer Race" insists on two synonyms for beauty.
??? [Blatantly Ishtar]: "I am an anonymous, glorious, glamorous, magnificent, beautiful, maganimous goddess of the planet Venus."
Frankenstein: "Uh. (So many adjectives... And aren't "glamorous" and "beautiful" just about the same thing?)"
???: "HEY! You know, with my Goddess Power™ I can tell what you're saying! What's wrong with putting some extra emphasis on my beautiful beauty?"
  • Destructive Savior: The main issue the people of Uruk have with her is that, she does fight to protect them at times, but she does so by causing destruction and often tends to not think about the extent of her damage. Even those who she actively protects complain that she causes more harm than good at times.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Her third skill is a 50% ATK Up skill on an extremely low cooldown, but it requires the player to plan her moves a turn ahead of time. Due to this, Ishtar can be a bit tricky to use since the player may forget to use the skill or end up getting the wrong cards the next turn. If set up properly, she has the strongest AOE NP of all Archersnote  and has incredibly powerful normal attacks, crits and a 50% NP charge skill that carries a high chance of invulnerability and pierce invulnerability. This makes her one of the best farming Servants in the game as well as a great boss killer, but the player needs to actively make sure to time the skill's use, or else it can be missing on a turn it was needed, or used on a turn it wasn't needed.
  • Distracted by the Luxury: Gilgamesh's plan to get her to join the protagonists and Uruk is to bribe her with at least 20% of the content of Gate of Babylon. He weasels out of paying her after the singularity.
  • Dramatic Irony: When you consider Rin's connection to Gilgamesh, Ishtar possessing her and thus gaining the goddess' obsession for the latter becomes this, considering the latter was her father's Servant and was indirectly responsible for his murder at Kirei's hands and her mother's crippling and eventual death from that outcome.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • When she was given a chance to escape Kur by letting someone take her place in there, the otherwise rash and impetuous Ishtar wasn't willing to force someone to take her place due to mix of her pride and fundamentally being good and she wasn't willing to let any of her sacred prostitutes to offer their own lives for her even if they were willing to do so as they are still her servants. She was ready resign herself to her fate at that point… if she didn't find her husband Dumuzid celebrating her death, making her decide to make him be the sacrifice.
    • As much as Ishtar wasn't above taking out her anger on Uruk, even she was horrified by the destruction Tiamat caused when she invaded Uruk.
  • Evil Laugh: In Babylonia, there's a whole section where ranchers who found their farms raided and blasted by Ishtar all take a moment to mention her constant smug laughter.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: She wears only a single thigh-high.
  • Foil: From her Class to her Noble Phantasm to her mannerisms, Ishtar greatly resembles the original Gilgamesh from the premiere entry of the franchise to better show how much his older Caster self has grown and surpassed the crudeness of his youth.
  • Finger Gun: In the Babylonia anime, she fights by shooting mana bullets from her index finger in a similar way to Rin's Gandr.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Foolish to Ereshkigal's Responsible. Ishtar enjoys mixing business with pleasure or having fun on the job, while Ereshkigal is a workaholic who takes her job very seriously due to being unable to socialize and shrugs off her sister's attempt to blow off work and have some fun for once.
  • Gemstone Assault: One of her skills is Mana Burst (Jewel), where she boosts her ATK by storing her magical energy into jewels for 1 turn before releasing it. It's noted that she could originally do this with other things, but Rin's influence has restricted her to jewels alone.
  • Girlish Pigtails: As is standard for Rin. Even more so than Rin's usual look, though, they're more like accessory side-tails and she still has a significant amount of free-flowing hair going down to her shoulders.
  • Glass Cannon: Her skillset leans more of an offensive build as it contains partywide attack/critical strength buff, a delayed attack buff for herself, and her noble phantasm increases her buster performance as well as gaining twenty critical stars. On the defensive side though, she only has one defensive skill (a.k.a. Invincibility) which is a chance-based skill so it is not guarenteed that she gets to use it.
  • God in Human Form: She's too major a deity to just become a Servant like that, hence her borrowing of Rin's body as a way to nerf herself. If you manage to get her killed in battle, she laments how fragile flesh can be.
  • God Is Good: Downplayed while Ishtar is spoiled, greedy, arrogant and at times vengeful, she is still fundamentally a benevolent goddess to the point even Caster Gilgamesh, who has legitimate reasons to hate her, stated as such in the Merry Christmas from the Underworld" event. This is even shown in the Babylonia singularity as while she was an antagonist who would fight the protagonist's group if they crossed her, she still cared about and helped Uruk even before she joined the protagonist.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Her outfit and arrows are primarily colored gold and white, and she is currently the host of a goddess.
  • Grand Theft Me: Like fellow pseudo-Servant Zhuge Liang, Ishtar possessed a human to get around restrictions regarding Servant Summoning. Unlike Zhuge Liang however, her personality is far more weighted towards Ishtar's than Rin's. It's explained in Babylonia that the summoning ritual from her temple matron to bring her into the world ended up using Rin's body because Uruk was about to become a Singularity, which allowed it to connect to different eras across time and space. The matron found Rin was compatible and used her as the vessel.
  • Great Bow: Her main Noble Phantasm is Maanna, the Boat of Heaven, an ornate bow so huge that she rides on it like a light aircraft (it's the big blue-and gold thing in her profile pictures). It shoots planets. No, we don't mean it shoots at planets. We mean it uses the distilled concept of a planet as ammunition. Gods in the Nasuverse don't mess around.
  • Greed: She's persuaded to join your party by waving lots of shiny stuff in her face and one of her post victory lines is about stripping your enemies of everything valuable.
  • Harmless Electrocution: During the Babylonia singularity, she gets electrocuted by Ereshkigal while travelling through her gates in the Underworld. This only results in her being made increasingly tinier, with no indication that she was harmed by the shock.
  • Have We Met Yet?: She was added to the game before the actual chapter in which she appears. If you summon her before completing Babylonia, she's pleased to see you 'again,' then surprised that you don't recognize her. If you summon her after it, now she doesn't recognize the player but they treat her like an old friend.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Downplayed as she wasn't really evil but you eventually coax her into one. Well, more like bribe her into one thanks to her love of gems, but it's all the same, right?
  • Hero Antagonist:
    • In Babylonia singularity she faces the protagonist group plenty of times if they cross her but she was still benevolent before she joined them. While she dislikes Gilgamesh due to their history, she still protects Uruk citizens from the Demonic Beast attacks of her free will even if she takes her payment from them later on. It's even revealed that she was never part of the Three Goddess Alliance in the first place.
    • In the "Merry Christmas from the Underworld" event, Ishtar shows up to stop the protagonist because she's worried that Ereshkigal in her current state will try to kill them. When she fails to convince them to turn back, she decides to fight them to prove they're strong enough to keep going and won't die instantly.
  • Incredible Shrinking Man: In Babylonia, when the team has to enter the Underworld in order to save Gilgamesh who just died from overworking, they pass through gates in order to reach Ereshkigal. However, each time they pass through the gate, Ishtar shrinks a bit. It gets hilarious as her portraits get smaller and smaller each time and in gameplay, her sprite get so small that it actually affects her Noble Phantasm animation as she might become so small that she is offscreen of her animation. She turns back to normal when Ereshkigal is defeated, though.
  • Interquel: Ishtar's first interlude, "Ishtar's Eleven" acts as one for the Babylonia Singularity and the 2017 Summer event, "Dead Heat Summer Race". In said interlude she ropes the protagonist and Mash to collect the percentage of Gilgamesh's treasury she was promised in the Babylonia Singularity and lets it slip in the last chapter that she planned on using the riches to fund a race to make up for her mess up in the singularity.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's like a meaner Rin. She's greedier and more selfish, but deep down she does care about humans. The bit of her that comes from Rin also makes her somewhat nicer and more human as well.
  • Leitmotif: "The Goddess of Venus", a theme strong in Middle Eastern instrumentation in the first half and heavy on rock in the second half to emphasize her dual duties as goddess of beauty and war. Notably, unlike other Babylonia themes, this one actually got backported into the game as a remixed theme for Space Ishtar.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: In the "Merry Christmas from the Underworld" event, she shows up wearing more golden armor and with red Power Tattooes, claiming this is closer to what she looked like in her prime and the protagonist can basically call her "Super Ishtar." When the protagonist beats her, they end up wrecking said armor.
  • Lighter and Softer: Rin's influence serves as a buffer for Ishtar's darker personality traits, making her less cruel and scheming than she would be outside of Rin's body. When Ishtar appears in Fate/strange Fake without Rin influencing her, she's an outright villain willing to send the Bull of Heaven at a city if it means killing Gilgamesh and Enkidu. In addition, Enkidu holds back in his legendary rivalry against Ishtar because of said restraint, plus he doesn't want to hurt Rin.
  • Loves Only Gold: Gilgamesh reveals that Ishtar loves gems in the Babylonia singularity and is able to successfully bribe her to join their side by offering at least 20% of the jewels in his treasury. Ishtar states in her first interlude that while she has always loved gems, she's even more determined to collect them due to being summoned in Rin's body, feeling antsy when she sees them.
  • Loser Deity: Ishtar is a highly haughty goddess of beauty and love, who, due to her attitude (and failure to be useful), gets much mockery from a lot of other Servants (including other Divine Servants). Gilgamesh even puts an equivalent of the "Kick Me" prank that instead says "I'm a useless goddess" on her.
  • Magical Barefooter: This goddess goes around barefoot and levitates so her feet don't touch the ground. However, she puts on high heels in Third Ascension.
  • Male Gaze: The Babylonia anime frequently likes to remind you that Ishtar has a very nice butt, at least Once per Episode.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • She refers to Jaguar Warrior as "Jaguamura-sensei", as her vessel Fujimura Taiga was Rin's teacher.
    • When she sees how happy Rin's former Servant (Archer) EMIYA is now, she says that she can't have him acting so uppity and wants to knock him down a few pegs.
    • At the start of "Dead Heat Summer Race," she decides to trust her vessel's instincts and first-pick racing Servants "who look like — I mean to those two!" Those two being Nero (Bride) and Altria Alter, so she was pretty transparently referring to Rin's memories of Saberfaces.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: She and Ereshkigal are in some respects the same person since they've both merged with the same host and were originally one older goddess. As a result Ishtar gets particularly jealous and asks you not to speak to 'other me.' For her part, Ereshkigal pities you for having to put up with her even as she acknowledges that she's not that different herself. Their My Room interactions with Space Ishtar confirm that they are two halves of an earlier goddess who split in two.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: At the start of "Dead Heat Summer Race," she disguises herself as the protagonist to ensure that Nero (Bride) and Altria Alter join the event without reservation. But even she is surprised at how much of a pushover they each are, as they were intending to spend the summer with the protagonist anyway and while they see the protagonist act out-of-character, they dismiss it as just a particularly important request. The "player"'s dialogue options even all include "(Wink)" at the end.
Nero (Bride): Wh-what's this? You seem more radiant than usual... You gaze upon me with the fiery charm of a goddess exercising her Authority...
  • Physical God: She's the goddess of love, beauty, fertility, and war in Mesopotamian mythology and wields incredible power even while limited by her Saint Graph. She's immune to all modern magecraft, boasts EX-Rank Mana, and possesses a Noble Phantasm that can wipe out a mountain range. This is on top of being able to summon Gugalanna, a Divine Beast powerful enough to make Gilgamesh and Enkidu wary of her. At least, before she lost it. This is reflected in-game by her nearly unrivaled burst damage potential through Mana Burst (Jewels) and Manifestation of Beauty.
  • Power Floats: She does not walk as her feet are always off the ground. In the anime, she spins and twirls and flips in the air when she's in a good mood.
  • Proud Beauty: She's the goddess of beauty before anything else, and she loves to remind you of it. Exaggerated when she introduces herself to Frankenstein as glamorous and beautiful in "Dead Heat Summer Race".
  • Red Baron: She's called the (Red) Devil of Venus in her profile, Red Devil being a nickname for Rin and the Venus part referring to the planet Ishtar's associated with.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: She has red eyes, presumably because of her possession and because red eyes are typically a symbol of divinity in the Nasuverse. However, it's subverted because it's actually when her eyes turn gold that you really need to watch out.
  • Say It with Hearts: Ishtar loosens up during her Summer event, cajoling the master and her racers alike with sweet-talk and thanks marked by hearts.
  • Serious Business: Ishtar’s official reason for turning a ritual to dispel a Singularity into a race is to make it “the best summer ever!” The alternative was simply too boring, and she also may have wanted to one-up last year's summer event on a deserted island since she goes out of her way to compare it.
  • Showing Off the New Body: Implied, given how she has absolutely no problems wearing a Stripperific outfit and even compliments Rin's body. Although she has a few complaints about Rin's chest size.
"My original self was more glamorous, but this body is also not bad."
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Pointed out in her description, she's the "Red Devil of Venus" compared to Ereshkigal's "Red Angel of the Underworld."
  • Sitcom Archnemesis:
    • She has attacked Uruk every day that she can in order to make Gilgamesh love her. Gilgamesh and the people of Uruk treat her as a minor annoyance.
    • She shares this kind of relationship with Astrea, whose host Luvia is The Rival of her host Rin.
  • Smug Super: She's proud of her power as a goddess and doesn't hesitate to flaunt it.
[after winning a battle] "This is the natural result. Don't look down upon a goddess."
  • Split-Personality Merge: By her estimate, she's roughly 70% original Ishtar, 30% Rin with both 'halves' being fully merged because both consider that no matter what happens, they are still them. While Ishtar wasn't necessarily bad by herself, she was highly unstable and kind of bratty. Gilgamesh believes that Rin's parentless childhood had an especially large effect on her. Her profile puts it another way: Rin could be considered 'asleep' but subconsciously affecting Ishtar. Her profile states that Ishtar isn't necessarily acting different from her original self but Rin's influence is tempering Ishtar's negative qualities while emphasizing her positive ones. Ishtar, for her part, considers herself and Rin to be the same person while they inhabit the same body, and points out this is only possible because Rin is able to consider it much the same way.
  • Stealth Insult: The description for her bond CE is a song extolling her beauty, strength, and the fortune she occasionally bestows on mortals. However, reading between the lines, it also basically calls her violent, greedy, fickle, and self obsessed. The end of the description even has Ishtar complain that the song is supposed to be complimenting her.
  • Stripperiffic: Starts off wearing very little, and ends with even less covering her. Then again, historical depictions of Ishtar ranged from a full dress to nothing but panties and a hat.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: When she shows these, you'd better run away really fast as she's going to launch a planet at someone.
  • Super-Senses: As a goddess, Ishtar possesses elevated senses far above the human norm. This becomes a point of Foreshadowing in the manga adaptation of Abyssal Cyber Paradise, SE.RA.PH., where she uses them to point out Meltryllis' deteriorating condition, asking if she was insulting her for not facing her at full strength.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: It's implied that without Rin's influence that she would kill anyone she considers more beautiful than herself. With Rin's restraint she instead resolves to simply become more beautiful than them.
  • Temporal Paradox: At the 6th Gate in the "Christmas in the Underworld" event, you give Ishtar a CE of the ATM she used during the Dead Heat Summer Race. This gives her the idea to set up the ATM in the race. Why did you have the CE? Presumably you got it during the race.
  • Tradesnark™: Her Goddess Power is apparently trademarked, as seen when she recruits Frankenstein to the Ishtar Cup in "Dead Heat Summer Race."
  • Tsundere: Even with Ishtar as the main personality, it still wouldn't be Rin if this wasn't present. Even all her actions till Caster Gilgamesh's death shows she's been this towards him. The summoned version at bond five blushes and says she 'doesn't hate' the protagonist then says she'll follow them to the underworld and back. Looks like she just can't say that simple 'I like you.'
  • War God: Part of her portfolio, even. Despite her eccentricities, she's very effective at destroying her foes and woe betide to those who anger her.
  • Woman Scorned: The great one. She is usually really nice, as befitting of the Lady of Gods... when in a good mood. If she gets mad at something, she can get terrifying. Her Noble Phantasm is classified as Anti-Mountain because of that time she brought ruin to an entire mountain range for daring to stand tall before her (it was a really bad day).
  • Wrestler in All of Us: In the Babylonia anime, she improvises a wrestler grab to pin down a Bel Lahmu, a feat which impresses Quetzalcoatl. Quite fitting, considering Rin has some experience with such techniques herself.

"I have come in answer to your summons. It's me, Jeanne! This time, I'm on vacation as an Archer, so I won't be so formal. Let's enjoy our summer vacation!"

The most famous female saint in the world and savior of France, now turned dolphin trainer. She debuted in the Servant Summer Festival 2018 event, before appearing again in the Las Vegas Championship Match Summer event as the Swimsuit Swordmaster in charge of Cirque du requin.

  • Abnormal Ammo: Dolphins. She has a dolphin familiar named Reese, and in her second ascension she styles herself as a dolphin trainer. Many of her attacks have her sending dolphins to attack for her, and in her third ascension she has an animation where a dolphin jumps through her halo, then homes in on the enemy. It's clearly not meant to be thought about too hard, and Jeanne herself isn't fazed by it either.
Jeanne: I am an archer because I shoot dolphins. There's nothing wrong with that...
  • The Beastmaster: To fit into the Archer class, Jeanne has learned how to train dolphins and whales to attack her enemies for her. It's especially obvious in her second ascension, where she's styled herself as a dolphin trainer.
  • Belly Flop Crushing: For her Noble Phantasm, Jeanne summons a whale and has it flop onto all onscreen enemies.
  • Big Eater: A conversation with Jeanne Alter she has over breakfast consists of her constantly stopping mid-sentence to eat, and every time she does the description given is of a different food, including sausage, french toast, and an entire loco moco platter. Jeanne Alter also expresses serious concern at how much Jeanne is eating. How did she even fit that all on her plate?
  • Call-Back: Her obsession with the ocean refers to the second Christmas event, where it was revealed that seeing the sea was her childhood dream. She just takes it further here.
  • Cool Big Sis: She tries to be this for Jeanne Alter Berserker throughout the third summer festival, attempting to hang out with her, give her advice as well as help her out with her doujin. It's taken to ridiculous degrees during the Las Vegas event, where she uses a "Big Sister Beam" to brainwash people into making them think she's their older sister just because she likes being one so much.
  • Denser and Wackier: While all summer Servants are generally more lighthearted than the original versions, Jeanne becoming an Archer has more or less corrupted her with summer spirit, removing most of the righteousness she had as a Ruler, even if she doesn't really think anything has changed. It wasn't that bad at first as she generally acted more like Jeanne who isn't as concerned about her image as a saint, but by the time of "Las Vegas Championship Match", she can now make Protagonist think she is their big sister with "Big Sister Beam" and has a Great White Shark that insist on others to play with them. It's to the point that both the normally coolheaded Siegfried and Meltryllis are dumbfounded at how deal with her personality shift, and the Protagonist calls her "Saint Airhead."
  • Familiar: She has one in, what else, a dolphin named Reece that she found wounded on the beach and made into her familiar with a prayer to the Lord. Jeanne Alter Berserker is incredulous she just up and did that.
  • Family of Choice: Parodied during the Las Vegas Championship Match event where she uses her "Big Sister Beam" to turn people into her family. But even then she obviously thinks of Jeanne Alter as her little sister to Alter's frustration.
  • Flanderization: Her first appearance (in this form, at least) in the third Summer event established her as a Cool Big Sis figure with an interest in doujins and some feisty moments (mainly her attitude towards Gilles). After the fourth Summer event, all of her appearances relate to the big sister angle cranked up to insane degrees such that just the mention of a big sister in an unrelated context can bring up Summer Jeanne-related trauma in the cast.
  • Friendly, Playful Dolphin: The dolphins Jeanne summons are enjoying themselves just as much as she is. Though the description for her Waterfront Saintess (Dolphin) skill paints the dolphins attacking Jeanne's foes as being slightly brutal.
Jeanne Alter Summer: *after just getting bodied by Reece* Master, if there's one thing I've learned today, it's that dolphins are freaking terrifying when they're bearing down on you with open mouths.
Protagonist: Their teeth do look like chain saw blades, don't they...
  • Friendly Rival: Despite Jeanne Alter Berserker continually trying to pick a fight with Jeanne, she's actually happy that Alter sees her as a rival and treats it all as a fun game to Alter's frustration.
  • Gratuitous Foreign Language: Aside from the name of her Noble Phantasm being in French like in her regular form, she also counts to three in Hawaiian ("'Ekahi, 'elua, 'ekolu") for one of her Noble Phantasm lines in her first two ascensions.
  • The Great Flood: Her wish for the Grail is to flood the world with seawater so she can call upon it whenever she wants. She seems completely oblivious to how destructive that would be.
  • Going Fur a Swim: Gains a fur collar on her outfit in her 3rd ascension form.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Apparently she's a really good artist. The 2018 summer event takes place at a Comiket parody, and according to Blackbeard the doujin circle comprised of Jeanne and her friends is extremely popular.
    • She actually really does want to be an "older sister" (with a lot of what that implies in a Japanese context) to Jeanne Alter and Santa Lily; while it's often played for laughs (including in the unlockable side event during ServaFes devoted to the idea), it's still clear that Jeanne really does adore the idea of having siblings (she had siblings in life but all of them are virtually forgotten by history and aren't Heroic Spirits) and for all her goofiness about it, does love her erstwhile siblings dearly.
  • Historical In-Joke:
    • Why is Jeanne associated with dolphins, of all things? In real life, Jeanne came to the aid of the Dauphin or crown prince of France, which led to his becoming King. "Dauphin" is French for "heir apparent", but it also means "dolphin".
    • Her obsession with being a Cool Big Sis may be because the real Jeanne was the youngest of five siblings, with three older brothers and an older sister.
  • Holy Halo: She gains one in her third ascension, replacing her inner tube and hula hoop from her first two forms. Unlike most examples, it encircles her whole body rather than just floating above her head. She also weaponizes it as a Ring of Death for many of her attacks.
  • Impractically Fancy Outfit: Her 3rd ascension outfit is infamous for being as pretty as it is ridiculous looking.
  • Improbable Weapon User: When she's not attacking with dolphins, Jeanne uses her inner tube/hula hoop/magical girl halo like a chakram.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Her third outfit, best described as "magical girl princess swimwear", was inspired by Marie. Jeanne gets a new set of attack animations and voice lines with it, which emphasize the "magical girl" part of it.
  • Light 'em Up: This is her main method of attacking when in her third outfit, creating various rings of light to attack the enemy with or using her halo to shoot lasers.
  • Logical Weakness: Played for Laughs; this version of Jeanne isn't fond of winter. She still likes Christmas, and is willing to celebrate it in swimwear, but she'll beg her Master to not prefer winter to summer.
  • Making a Splash: As cetaceans live in water, Jeanne can just transform the ground around her into more ocean for them to swim in. The dolphins can also fling water at enemies.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Jeanne's 3rd form dress is incredibly fancy and one of the most elaborate outfits in the game.
  • Point of Divergence: Discussed. She's famous as the Holy Maiden, a warrior, and a Heroic Spirit, but she wondered what she'd be like if she was never any of those things. That's when Marie asked for help drawing a manga. Jeanne soon found she had a knack for it and the rest is history.
  • Rings of Death: While she did use her inner tube and her hula hoop for some of her attacks in her first two Ascensions, it's when she hits her third form that this really comes out, with her forming and firing multiple rings of light at her enemies.
  • Shamu Fu: As part of her Noble Phantasm, she has a whale body slam her opponent.
  • Situational Sword: Her Independent Action (Celeb) EX passive and Waterfront Saintess (Dolphin) A+ gives her 3% NP passive charge per turn and increases her critical strength when used respectively as long as she's in a waterside battlefield.
  • Square Race, Round Class: She doesn't use projectiles and she rides and weaponizes whales and dolphins. She should be a Rider instead of an Archer.
  • Stone Wall: Though not to the extent of her Ruler version, she still boasts the highest HP out of all the Archers, and has the 6th highest HP in the entire game. She does, however, have the lowest ATK of all 5* Archers and the seventh lowest ATK of all 5* Servants. However, her skillset contains three different kinds of steroids, which makes her Noble Phantasm hit relatively hard, although still less hard than the NPs of other 5* AoE Archers.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to Marie's girly girl in their doujin circle during the Summer 2018 event. This is especially emphasized by the ponytail she wears in her second ascension.
  • Too Important to Walk: Jeanne moves around by riding one of her dolphins.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: Even after the event, this version of her will still be running around in swimwear.

"Servant: Archer. Anti-Army Battle Warrior Unit... True Name... Minamoto-no-Tametomo. Awaiting battle. Your command."

One of the members of Minamoto clan who fought in the Hougen Rebellion. As written in Kyokutei Bakin's "A Wonderful Tale: The Moonbow", Tametomo was an archer who could string a bow that could normally take five men to prepare and then sink anything with nothing more than a single shot, sinking many of Taira clan's ships. After being banished to Izu Island in the Tokyo Bay area after suffering a crippling injury, Tametomo committed seppuku, being the first warrior recorded doing so in the chronicles.

Tametomo first appeared in "Parting Memory Manifestation Realms, Traum", acting as a living weapon for Kriemhild's faction.

  • Abled in the Adaptation: Tametomo's immerse prowess with the Great Bow was attributed to the fact that one of his arms was 13cm longer than the other, giving him a massive advantage in leverage and range of motion with the arm he used to draw his bow. While this fact is referenced, both of Tametomo's arms are the same size.
  • Achilles' Heel: In Traum, Tametomo acts basically as a living turret, located at top of a tower which provides him with energy. If Tametomo's connection to the tower is cut off, then there is no back-up plan to keep him around. Tametomo specifically is connected to it by just standing there, so Astolfo's Trap of Argalia ability to turn target's legs to Spirit Form means that just one hit from it is able to disable Tametomo for good.
  • Adaptive Ability: Fate series is no stranger of having Not Hyperboles, but Gouchin - Yumiharizuki makes Tametomo constantly adapt if he finds something that doesn't fall in a single shot. Find someone who can actually stop one of your arrows? Fire three of them so that one of them can land. Find out that the person in question can tank your arrows? Fire an entire volley of them. "Nanmei Yumihari Hakkenden" shows just how absurd Tametomo's arrows can evolve if they are given enough shots.
  • Always Accurate Attack: Mechanical Archery gives Tametomo Sure Hit for five turns and his Noble Phantasm gives him Ignore Invincibility and Ignore Defense for one turn. Short of being protected by special defense, you are not going to avoid Tametomo's attacks.
  • Ambiguous Gender: The way Tametomo is talked about by the other characters in makes it hard to tell if Tametomo is male in the Nasuverse. Not helped by the fact that he is actually a robot. "Nanmei Yumihari Hakkenden" and his playable debut confirms that he is still male.
  • Ambiguously Related: While he was built from the recycled remains of the Settsu Armor, his colors, bowsmanship and lunar motifs makes him not similar to Settsu Armor Kumano at all. Considering that Kumano is implied to have been built from Ares' remains, it might be that Genji clan had another Settsu Armor built from Artemis' remains, which was used to built Tametomo. Kukulcan also mistakes Tametomo for Orion, implying that Tametomo does have some connection to Artemis.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: His Noble Phantasm grants Ignore Invincibility and Ignore Defense for one turn, meaning that only Caster Altria's and Kukulcan's Purge Defense buffs are capable of stopping his Noble Phantasm from inflicting damage.
  • Artificial Human: He doesn't wear a suit of mechanical armor, he is mechanical. His voice lines specifically have him compare himself to Lu Bu and Xiang Yu as being of similar make.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Subverted in contrast to the common stories told by him. While his tendons on his arms were severed after the Hougen Rebellion, he was able to mysteriously recover from it like he had replaced the hydraulic cables on his arms. The skill that references this, Indomitable Bowmanship, even gives him a Guts-triggered buff that increases his NP Strength almost as a defiance of this trope.
  • Cranial Processing Unit: Implied. He comments that, despite his mechanical nature, he would die if you cut off his head. He wanted to make this clear because he's well aware of his niece's propensity for decapitation.
  • Dying as Yourself: In Traum, after being cut off from the tower's power source, all of the different spells on Tametomo are lifted off which made him act like an unfeeling machine, allowing Tametomo to act like a normal person before vanishing.
  • Driven to Suicide: As the story goes, Tametomo is the first Japanese warrior who killed himself by slicing open his abdomen after a Game-Breaking Injury had him retired from warfarenote .
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Tametomo being able to snipe down Constantine through Theodosios Constantinos makes sense when looking at exactly what each Servant has. Theodosion Constantinos might give Constantine Invincibility, Defense Up and Damage Cut, but Gouchin - Yumiharizuki gives Tametomo Pierce Invincibility and Pierce Defense, meaning that no normal defense can block his arrows.
  • Gathering Steam: Tametomo is not a Servant who inherently benefits from Beginning With a Finisher as the only immediate attack buff he has is three-hit Buster Effectiveness Up. Instead, Tametomo wants to stay on the field to farm the NP Strength Ups provided to him by Mechanical Archery or Indomitable Bowmanship, giving him a 100% increase to NP Strength after five turns or less if Indomitable Bowmanship is triggered.
  • Great Bow: Tametomo was already known for stringing a bow that would take five normal men to prepare, but the Moonlight Artillery Noble Phantasm arms Tametomo with a large bow that only someone wearing the armor could wield that fires arrows like they were ballistic missiles.
  • Historical Badass Upgrade: Bakin was already praising Tametomo in his writing, but what he failed to mention was that Tametomo was an ancient mecha. Apparently no one from his era even realized that he was actually a robot, making this part of him not be recorded in writing.
  • Improbable Use of a Weapon: Even if he is an Archer who actually uses a bow, he isn't above just smacking someone with it. The fact that the two halves aren't connected to one another means that Tametomo can also use them as arm-mounted blades.
  • Mini-Me: His Valentine's Day gift for the protagonist is a smartphone that has the ability to transform into a miniature version of himself called "Tameshomo the Mini-Tametomo". Tameshomo is even able to use a miniature version of his Noble Phantasm to kill weaker beasts in one shot. Unfortunately, this level of power causes Tameshomo to overheat and risks exploding, forcing him to dial the power down for the protagonist's safety.
  • Mistaken Identity: Kukulkan accidentally mistakes him for Orion (understandable, considering the implication that Tametomo is built from Olympian remains, maybe even Artemis's) and begins fangirling, even challenging him to a duel. She's very quickly corrected, thankfully (and even warned against meeting the actual Orion).
  • Moon Rabbit: Along with his other lunar motifs, each ascension features a different horned helmet that resembles rabbit ears.
  • Oh, Crap!: Tametomo is on-guard around the Mecha Eli-chans, considering their specs to be equal to or even superior to his. He sets them as "Alert Level 3" and creates an alarm to go off in the event that they approach him.
  • Replacement Goldfish: What kickstarts "Nanmei Yumihari Hakkenden" was Kyokutei Bakin summoning him while trying to figure out if it was possible to revive Bakin's son Souhaku as a Servant and, after learning it was impossible, decides to use Tametomo as the next best thing as a new "son". Learning about Chaldea makes Bakin paranoid that they'll try to take Tametomo away from Bakin and Omichi so Tametomo is used as a weapon to try and take Chaldea down.
  • Robo Speak: As a robot, Tametomo speaks with excessive formality and with phrases like, "Booting.", "Commencement of hostilities confirmed.", and "Code: Archer Release." That said, he's lived among humans enough to break from this pattern of speech at times, such as when he calls his niece Ushiwakamaru an idiot for wanting to cut his head off.
  • Semantic Superpower: His Noble Phantasm is based on his anecdote about sinking boats with one shot and is defined as an anti-ship NP. However, because he wasn't putting full effort into his feat in life, now has the magic prowess of a Servant, and Mystery increasing in the sea, his scope of a "ship" that can be brought down by one arrow from his Noble Phantasm has significantly expanded from mere Japanese wooden boats to be any vessel capable of being seaborne from nuclear submarines to both of Chaldea's bases after the third Lostbelt, the Wandering Sea and the Storm Border. Note that the former is a mobile island that stretches the definition of ship and the latter is airborne if that story flag is checked for it to serve as Chaldea's current base and not functioning in the water at present time. This is why, in his debut event, just the one shot from him goes to ridiculous lengths to bring Chaldea down and achieve the conditions required by his legend of sinking down their "ship".
  • There's No Kill like Overkill: If Tametomo used his full power in life, he would've splattered humans across the pavement with his arrows. His fourth Bond Line has him state that he's performing maintenance on his bow to increase its destructive power by 40% and to direct any objections to the ID he's providing.
  • The Unfought: While the chapter has one lengthy section where Chaldea needs to figure out how to deal with Tametomo, almost none of the heroes get a chance to encounter the archer face-to-face as Astolfo performs a suicidal charge to disable him.
  • Worthy Opponent: He has, if nothing else, a very strong sense of respect for opponents that can match them. When Siegfried blocks their shot with Balmung, he immediately shake off his mind control (murdering the handlers in the process) just for the sake of taking more shots at the guy. After their Mutual Kill, Tametomo and Astolfo spend their last moments praising each other and trading friendly barbs about who will win next time they meet.
  • Willfully Weak: In life, Tametomo never wielded his full power because it was simply excessive to fling arrows that could be compared to ballistic missiles at fleshy human targets.
