Main Characters
In General
- Heroic Fatigue: While they enjoy helping people, they're also looking forward to time off.
Sunset Shimmer
- Amicable Exes: With Artie.
- But Now I Must Go: Fall of Starfleet Side Story: Evolution of Friendship opens with her stating that she is leaving the human world and going back to Equestria.
- Eating The Eyecandy: She can't keep herself from staring at Gray Son's butt.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Sunset's temper tends to flare rather easily, leading to her getting into heated disagreements with Starfleet and occasionally her friends. But mostly Starfleet.
- Older Than They Look: She's actually an adult by human standards, but her physical body is that of a teenager's.
- Race Lift: Word of God states that the Equestria Girls characters have normal human skin tones. This is likely done to keep the same aesthetic with the human characters since Evolution of Friendship crosses over My Little Pony: Equestria Girls with Digimon, Power Rangers, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and The DCU.
- Related in the Adaptation: She was adopted by Princess Celestia when she was a filly.
- Saved by Canon: She's definitely going to survive the events of Evolution of Friendship since the story opens with her narrating about how the events of said story are her final moments in the human world before returning to Equestria.
Madilyn Bluestone
The Violet Gaia Ranger
- Genki Girl: Very cheerful, very energetic.Sunset: (after Madilyn meets Pinkie) God, there are two of them...
- Hero of Another Story: She is part of a Ranger team known as the Guardians of Gaia. She goes to Sunset for help after her team suddenly disappeared.
- Purple Is Powerful: Her Ranger color is Violet.
Equestria Girls
Tropes applying to all members
- Took a Level in Badass: They can all take on some of the toughest Power Rangers villains, and also Celesto in his powerful mech.
- Race Lift: Word of God states that the Equestria Girls characters have normal human skin tones. This is likely done to keep the same aesthetic with the human characters since Evolution of Friendship crosses over My Little Pony: Equestria Girls with Power Rangers, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and The DCU.
EqG Twilight Sparkle/Sci-Twi
- Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of Replacement Goldfish. She's Hearing Voices that continuously tell her that the rest of the HuMane Seven are only using her as a substitute for her Equestrian counterpart, and it takes a huge toll on her sanity.
- Important Haircut: She cuts her hair shorter to better differentiate herself from her Equestrian counterpart.
- In-Series Nickname: She's called "Sci-Twi" to help better differentiate from her Equestrian counterpart.
- Insistent Terminology: She eventually insists on being called "Twilight" as opposed to "Sci-Twi", due to her cracking from the voices in her head and seeing this as evidence that her friends only see her as a Replacement Goldfish.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Sci-Twi and Sunset are noted to be virtually inseparable, so them drifting apart alarms the HuMane Six. When she openly rubbishes Dyno and Myte after their deaths, it's taken as a sign that something is seriously wrong since they know she'd normally never say anything like that.
- Replacement Goldfish: Deconstructed. She believes that the others only see her as a replacement for Equestrian Twilight and it causes her stress.
EqG Rainbow Dash
EqG Pinkie Pie
- Genki Girl: Very cheerful, very energetic.Sunset: (after Pinkie meets Madilyn) God, there are two of them...
EqG Applejack
- Curb-Stomp Battle: She demolishes Darkonda, who was too much even for the Starfleet Humans.
EqG Fluttershy
- Actual Pacifist: Like canon, she doesn't fight herself.
- Corrupt the Cutie: Rhymey has been brainwashing her to kill people.
EqG Spike
Starfleet Humans
Tropes applying to all members
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Applejack explains to Madilyn that they seem amicable at first, but insist on imposing on everything and get rather nasty when they don't get their way.
- Flat Characters: https://www.fimfiction.net/blog/747600/about-the-equestria-girls-starfleet-members. Like canon, they deconstruct this.
Human Starla Shine
- Alpha Bitch: The nominal leader of the Starfleet crew while Lightning's away, and she's very antagonistic.
- Freudian Excuse: Starla idolized her mother and resolved to become as great a hero as her. When Starla's mother died fighting a monster, she was adopted by Celesto and jumped at the chance to become a hero... except that didn't quite work out and the Rainbooms are instead the ones being celebrated as heroes, leading to Starla developing a hatred of them born from envy.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Her intense hatred of Sunset and Rarity is due to envying them for, in her eyes, claiming the respect and glory she deserves.
- Inferiority Superiority Complex: Starla's implied to harbor a lot of insecurity, as she sees Sunset and Rarity as being much better than her and resents them for it, leading to her high-and-mighty Alpha Bitch behavior.
Human Dyno and Myte
- Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of Out of Focus characters. Artie mentions that they were feeling useless for a while and Imperious's powers sent them over the edge, causing them to kill themselves before Imperious could be beaten.
- Driven to Suicide: Imperious uses their negative feelings and makes them do this.
- Man on Fire: They commit suicide by self-immolation.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: They get no real screentime before being Driven to Suicide.
Human Rhymey Ward
- Adaptational Villainy: Like in the main story, he is portrayed as an abuser, a racist and an overall monster.
- Asshole Victim: Is just as bad as in the main story, and gets a very healthy dose of humiliation.
- Beta Bitch: A male example, but he nevertheless fits the role as he backs Starla up when she picks on the Rainbooms.
- The Corrupter: He brainwashed Fluttershy into killing for him.
- Groin Attack: A very painful one at the hands of Darkonda.
- Hate Sink: Starla at least has a Freudian Excuse for her bitchy behavior. Rhymey doesn't, and between his assholish attitude and domineering treatment of Fluttershy, he's clearly not meant to be sympathetic.
- Paper Tiger: He acts all big and tough, and seems dangerous, but will lose quickly in a real fight.
Human Buddy Rose
- Only Sane Man: The only member of the Starfleet crew that's not interested in fighting with the Rainbooms.
Human Artie Bristles
- Amicable Exes: With Sunset. They agree to break up when they realize they don't have anything in common.
Canterlot High
Principal Celestia
- Awful Wedded Life: Like her pony-self, there is no love to be found between her and Celesto.
Vice Principal Luna
Celesto Grandruler
- Big Bad: One of the main antagonists, and unlike in the main story, he is the final enemy faced by the heroes, not Unos.
- Deal with the Devil: Made one to get wealth, power, Celestia, and people working for him.
- Fiction 500: Deconstructed. His wealth and status stems from him making a Deal with the Devil.
- Lack of Empathy: Even his own students dying doesn't get any emotional reaction out of him. In fact, he implicitly lays the blame on Sunset for not saving them.
- Parody Sue: Like his pony-self, he is a God-Mode Sue if the world didn't bend itself backwards for him.
- Sadist Teacher: Superintendent, actually, but the trope still holds. The students of Canterlot High go as far as to compare him to Hitler.
Dr. Penny Sillion
- Comically Inept Healing: You don't get much more inept than sending a student home for a twisted ankle when said student has a broken leg.
Nurse Redheart
- Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Knows more about medicine than Dr. Penny Sillion. It's not very hard though.
Gray Son
The new PE teacher at Canterlot High. His true identity is Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing.
- Canon Character All Along: Introduced as the school's new physical education teacher after the previous one was killed by Dai Shi. He is later revealed to be Nightwing undercover.
- Hot Teacher: Implied. During his introductory scene, both Madilyn and Sunset find themselves staring at his butt for entirely too long. Which might have been Foreshadowing for his true identity.
- Sue Donym: Gray Son -> Grayson -> Dick Grayson.
The DCU
Dick Grayson/Nightwing
- Badass Normal: Like his mentor, he has no superpowers but still kicks an unbelievable amount of ass.
- Big Damn Heroes: Pinkie Pie mentions being saved by him while conversing with Sunset.
- The Mentor: Serves as one for Sunset.
Donna Troy
- Deadpan Snarker: Makes a sarcastic comment about Dick's alias of Gray Son.
Kent Nelson/Dr. Fate
- The Archmage: Sunset comes to him to learn about magic in the human realm. He also deduces, based on what Sunset told him, that magic in her universe is based on manipulating mana through willpower and concentration.
- Happily Married: To Inzra Cramer.
- The Mentor: Taught Sunset how to use magic while in the human world, however she brushed off his warnings about controlling the power she possesses with compassion and friendship, a decision she would later come to regret.
Inzra Cramer
- The Empath: Senses Sunset's conflicted emotional state when they first met.
- Happily Married: To Kent Nelson.
- Spell My Name With An S: The character's name in the comics is Inza Cramer.
Harvey Dent/Two-Face

Darkonda
- Alternate Self: An alternate version of his canon self, who is much more successful at his plans.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Destroys the Starfleet Humans with no effort. Then Applejack deals one to him with Shimmer's help.
- Monster of the Week: The first of many one-shot villains dispatched by Unos.
- Small Role, Big Impact: Despite his limited screentime, he destroys the Ranger powers of both the Rainbooms and Starfleet.
- Starter Villain: The first enemy encountered in the story, Darkonda establishes that the villains here are not messing around.
Dai Shi
- Lotus-Eater Machine: His modus operandi is to put his victims in a trance where they attain their greatest desires.
- Small Role, Big Impact: He kills the Physical Education teacher, leading to the mysterious Gray Son taking his place.
- This Is Going to Suck: His reaction to knowing that he's about to be killed.
Imperious
- Fashion-Victim Villain: Pinkie and Sunset taunt him by saying that he looks like a traffic light.
- Psychic-Assisted Suicide: He tries to force the student body of Canterlot High to commit suicide by using his powers to create feelings of depression. He succeeds in doing so for a small portion of it, including Dyno and Myte.
- Small Role, Big Impact: He's just another Monster of the Week, but he manages to kill Dyno and Myte.
- This Is Going to Suck: His reaction to knowing that he's about to be killed.
Kimberly Hart
- Broken Bird: Unos even refers to her as one.
- Cyborg: She has mechanical limbs.
- Take That!: The character as a whole is one to Power Rangers badfic Agony in Pink.
Gasha Skull
Yu-Gi-Oh!
King Atem
- Back from the Dead: Despite having passed on to the afterlife at the end of his home series, Atem has returned due to something destabilizing the boundaries between life and death.
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Atem confronts Yubel, who went undefeated for the entirety of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, and challenges them to a duel. The duel isn't shown, but Atem apparently won in five minutes, implying that it was a rather one-sided affair.
Yubel
- Not So Invincible After All: They were a nearly unbeatable champion in their home series until they meet their match against King Atem.
Ace Attorney
Phoenix Wright
- Living Lie Detector: Sees through Human Rhymey's frame-up with his Magatama.
- Small Role, Big Impact: Defends Fluttershy in court when she is framed.

- Big Bad: Of Evolution of Friendship.
- Like Father, Like Son: Son of Lord Zedd, who has a reputation as a fearsome foe to the Power Rangers.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He is an evil mastermind who really, really loves his family.
- Viler New Villain: Inverted. He is not nearly as bad as Dark Conquest of the main story.
Gallant
- The Dragon: To Unos.
- The Man Behind the Man: He's the one with whom Celesto made his Deal with the Devil.
