- Five-Finger Discount: He's very adept at stealing items from people while they are wearing them. Only when the victim decides to look at the missing item do they realise it's gone.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Johhny has this, although it's rarely triggered, mostly by the presence of his Abusive Father, who was heavily implied to be beating up his son because his father did this to him and his grandfather treated his father the same way.

- Badass Bookworm: When the children are defending the unicorn from an army of capture drones and loosing ground rapidly, Ling dons a set of blaster gauntlets and proceeds to tear the drone army apart one by one in a fit of savage ferocity that leaves the children just watching in awe. And this from an alien who is an biological research scientist.
- Glass-Shattering Sound: Only once, but he screams loud enough to break most of the windows.
- Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Ling has four arms and two legs.
- Precognition: Ling can see visions of future events. However, this does not mean events are destined to happen, if that knowledge is shared, the future can be avoided or derailed by taking actions different to the ones Ling shows the participants.
- Touch Telepathy: Ling can project thoughts via physical contact.
Sparky
Actor: Ian Ho
Tropes:
- Energy Beings: Sparky is made of energy.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Dies protecting Mr Leopold from a lethal energy blast.
- Innocent Aliens: When Sparky first appears, the only desire is to play games all day with the humans.
- Omni Glot: Sparky can learn any language by hearing enough speech of that language, or accessing a linguistic database via a computer. Eventually acts as an intermediary between Ling and the humans, translating Ling's sounds into English.
- Technopath: Sparky can inhabit and control any device with electrical circuits, including toys, household computer networks and cars.
Tresa Hewes

Tropes:
- Cyborg: She's got an artificial scanning retina, a bionic auditory sensor and a micromintaurized control panel behind her right ear.
- Tragic Backstory: When Ling's spacecraft arrived in the artic to collect the last polar bear, the force of the landing fractured the ice on which Hewes' daughter was standing, causing her to fall into the water and drown. This is what motivates Hewes' desire to capture Ling, the belief that he can somehow bring her daughter back to life.
