There's a good deal of heroes and monsters in Endless Dungeon, and they've got a few reasons for being there.

Heroes

    Sweeper

Voice Actor: Name of actors/actresses who portray this character, separated by commas (and languages in parentheses, if applicable)additional voice actors

The first character you'll meet through the Tutorial. He was a ship pilot who ended up crash-landing inside the Station. No-one seems to care what his name really is.

His starting weapon is the Sprayer, a Hand Gun. His Active is Slippery When Wet, slowing enemies in a cone of a direction of his choice. His Ultimate is Mopnado, slowing and knocking back enemies in an area around him and leaving a lingering AOE that continues to slow enemies down. His passive Turretmeister buffs turrets in the same room as him, giving them extra Rate of Fire.

Tropes:

  • Cowardly Lion: He didn't exactly ask to be here and really doesn't like the idea of dying, but he's still one of your first character options unlike the rest of the roster.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Not for lack of explanation, just for lack of trying.

    Zed

Voice Actor: Name of actors/actresses who portray this character, separated by commas (and languages in parentheses, if applicable)additional voice actors

The second character you'll meet through the Tutorial. A rock-head soldier who's always eager to enter a battle, she shows Sweeper the ropes of getting through the Station starting out. She arrived at the Station when she and her squad, returning from a music festival, didn't realize nobody was piloting until it was too late.

Her starting weapon is the Huntin' Rifle, a Heavy Gun. Her Active is Sonic Boom, hitting all enemies in a line AOE for some damage. Her Ultimate is Death Metal, creating an Aura that buffs Heroes, giving them extra ROF and movement, and debuffs enemies. Her passive Mad Shred gives her a temporary damage buff every time she personally kills a monster.

Tropes:

  • Blood Knight: Is definitely eager to beat up the toughest things to crawl out of the Station - two of her Run Objectives are to hunt down the Blob and Bots bosses.
  • Metalhead: Definitely has several signs of this. Notably not a fan of 'alt folk rock'.
    Bunker

Voice Actor: Name of actors/actresses who portray this character, separated by commas (and languages in parentheses, if applicable)additional voice actors

A machine deputy armed with a heavy shield and a great deal of justice. They came to the Station with their Sheriff, known as Bat, hunting down various criminals guilty of crimes such as theft, piracy and jaywalking. On one of their runs they were knocked offline temporarily, and when they woke up they found an Elite Praetorian Bot had killed their companion. Now all they want is revenge.

Their starting weapon is the Boomstick, a Hand Gun. Their Active is Back Off, creating a stunning shockwave by slamming their shield down towards the enemies of their choice. Their Ultimate is Hunker, becoming temporarily invulnerable and taunting any nearby monsters to hit them. Their passive is Triggering, temporarily increasing their damage as they take hits.

Tropes:

  • More Dakka: Subverted. They're packing a big shield and a Hand Gun and have no abilities beyond their passive and level up perks to deal more damage, but that makes them no less effective.
    Shroom

Voice Actor: Name of actors/actresses who portray this character, separated by commas (and languages in parentheses, if applicable)additional voice actors

A refugee from the war who enjoys growing plants and, somewhat ironically, ended up as the undertaker for the Station. She is one of the few people who managed to get the Reloader up and running again alongside Viggie in a 'crazy last-chance run'.

Their starting weapon is the Sprayer, a Hand Gun. Her passive is Wincense!, granting Shroom the use of Souls for use with her Active. She generates a Soul with every 10 kills she personally makes. Her Active is Soul Patch, consuming a Soul to heal a targeted Hero. Her Ultimate is Special Mix, granting her an aura that heals and ups the defense of Heroes nearby.

Tropes:

  • Good Thing You Can Heal: The only source of healing in the game besides Medkits. You can get a Drink later on that lets you heal from Shoving monsters but it comes at the cost of less defenceIt also modifies Medkits to make you invincible for 10 seconds instead of healing you
  • The Hero's Idol: What Zed is to Shroom starting out. Zed starts off inspiring her to go and check out the Devotion Garden as her first Run Objective. It may very well be the entire reason she's playable to begin with - she only unlocks when you've visited Devotion Garden once.
    Cartie

Voice Actor: Name of actors/actresses who portray this character, separated by commas (and languages in parentheses, if applicable)[[labelnote:additional voice actors]]Names of VAs for works that are not in the language of the original work or the language of the article (languages in parenthesis)

A Harahara who's lived on the Station ever since she and her family were brought aboard by her 'Masters' to save them from their planet orbiting a dying sun. She runs the Library, cataloguing and archiving everything she can of the Station and the Endless. Hates Bugs a lot, loves pabluum and Cuddle Time.

Their starting weapon is the Gatling, a Heavy Gun. Her Active is Publish and Perish, deploying a collection of traps that stun any monsters nearby for a time. Her Ultimate is Haraharrage, turning her into a spinning wheel of death that's considered a constant melee attack for a while before exploding. Her passive is Peer Reviewing, which boosts the Active skills of other Heroes and gives Core-Bot the ability to attack while in the same room as her.

Tropes:

  • Badass Adorable: After the Endless disappeared and the Bugs started to overtake the Station, she picked up a Heavy Gun in order to seek vengeance.
  • Cute Bookworm: Runs the Library, is focused on the history of the Station and Endless, is a Ridiculously Cute Critter that loves to cuddle.
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones: and it's Bugs, since they took over the Labor Colony in the absence of the Endless. She hates them so much, she has a Hero Chip dedicated to killing any Bug she hits with her Active skill!... except [[ Cowardly Boss Bug Momma]].
  • Small Girl, Big Gun: Uses a Heavy Gun, of all things, as an oversized bug that would probably come up to your waist.
    Blaze

Voice Actor: Name of actors/actresses who portray this character, separated by commas (and languages in parentheses, if applicable)additional voice actors

A wandering Cowboy who came to the Station on purpose with his posse, in order to look for a treasure - a very particular one, and it isn't Dust. After all, it's only an Endless space station that was abandoned for 20,000 years... right? It didn't stop Blaze bringing a metric butt-ton of dynamite - enough to, quote, "blow up two mountains and the valley in between 'em!" - just in case. Except his 'just in case' ended with his posse getting blown up, and not the Station nor its hostile inhabitants. But in the middle of it all, he learned what he was really looking for: a map to the greatest treasure in the galaxy!

Their starting weapon is the Huntin' Rifle, a Heavy Gun. Their Active is Hive Mine, planting a limited number of mines that expire after a long duration. Their Ultimate is Brimstone, firing off multiple missiles to bomb everything not friendly on the screen. Their passive is Afterburn, improving the power of Critical explosions.

Tropes:

  • Critical Hit Class: His passive makes him better at abusing critical hits, although with Level Ups this can end up making the rest of his damage a bit meagre in comparison.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Suppose carrying Heavy Guns all day needs enough capable hands to keep a good grip and throw explosives.
  • Outlaw: Or at least independent. Not very good at keeping his friends alive in order to find out, sadly...
  • Stuff Blowing Up: The class. His Active plants explosive mines, his Ultimate blows up everything on screen, he even improves Critical Hits' explosions!
    Fassie

Voice Actor: Name of actors/actresses who portray this character, separated by commas (and languages in parentheses, if applicable)additional voice actors

A Drakken with a singular goal - become the greatest living mixologist in the galaxy... by finding the recipes of the greatest known (and likely dead) mixologist in the galaxy, the Meudelaard aboard the Station. Hr runs the Cafe, where you can pick challenge runs in the form of Drinks. Taking on a challenge and beating it will grant you Cells to upgrade your gear.

Their starting weapon is the Sprayer, a Hand Gun. His passive is Stay Classy, which gives Fassie the resource Spiciness and Wit for every monster in the room with him. His Active is Shot!, throwing a drink to a nearby Hero or himself and boosting their attack relative to his Spiciness. His Ultimate is Bar Fight, forcing nearby monsters to attack each other while boosting the efficiency of nearby Heroes, with himperforming bar tricks all the while.

Tropes:

    Comrade

Voice Actor: Name of actors/actresses who portray this character, separated by commas (and languages in parentheses, if applicable)additional voice actors

An Amnesiac Hero who only knows that the Station was using him for something destructive. And if the Endless made him do something horrible, he fully intends to deliver the frontier justice he thinks they deserve one gunshot at a time. Takes some pleasure in being able to create, something he notes he could never think about before.

Their starting weapon is the Gatling, a Heavy Gun. His passive is To Arms!, allowing Comrade to Shove Resource Generators to repair them. His Active is Comrade Turret, creating a limited number of turrets that are effectively like any turret. They cannot be upgraded but they can be placed anywhere you can reach. His Ultimate is Revolution, transforming Comrade into a massive, invulnerable emplacement whose every shot deals high damage.

Tropes:

  • Quest for Identity: His purpose, with each of his Run Objectives pushing him to find out about what he was and what he did.

Allies and Residents

    Crystal Bot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_12_08_103123.png
If this dies, you die. So don't let it die!
The only chance at escape left. You don't have to carry it this time though. Whenever you change floors, sometimes something speaks through it...

Tropes:

  • All in a Row: What the Bot defaults to when it finishes mining. Don't let it stay that way, for your sake.
  • Escort Mission: Whenever it isn't plugged in, waves will spawn constantly. Generally, it's not plugged in because you need it to mine more Crystals or open more Zone Doors.
    Viggie

The resident hacker and the one running the Hacking Post. She'll help you open up new Districts and keep track of what can be found where, whether it's what enemies you'll encounter or how many more cells you've left to find.

    The Stranger

An unknown man who runs the Kiosk, you can spend Scrap with him in order to start a run with a Chest that contains Weapons, Devices, Turrets and Medkits.

    Penny Puzzles

some caption text
One of the Saloon residents.

Tropes:

  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Well, she does own a catlike creature.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: To a point, anyway.
"They were very clever with their systems and their calculations, the Endless. This "Veneration" of the Lost is the only thing that makes them sympathetic. And this is their legacy: warring AI systems and ruined relics."

Enemies

    In General
A lot of things have been usurped, corrupted or otherwise overrun in the thousands of years the Station has been neglected. From rabid insects to rejected test subjects, from malfunctioning machines to malevolent code-ghosts.

Tropes:

  • Elite Mooks: Indicated by a red 'glow'. They're tougher and stronger, but by no means smarter.
  • Skewed Priorities: Some enemies will focus on specific targets, such as turrets or Generators, sometimes to their own detriment. Subverted by others, who will focus on you if you attack them or get too close while they're moving to or hitting their original target.

Bugs

    Nibbler
Its relatively small size and weak attack is a contrast to its enormous aggressivity and poor dental hygiene.
Teeth on legs, these relatively small Bugs spawn in high numbers to swarm and break down Resource Generators.
    Nasquito
Aggressive, poisonous, and airborne, this bug is an exceptional collection of truly undesirable characteristics.
A flying mosquito-like Bug who can ignore gaps or barricades to get at the nearest Hero or Resource Generator.
    Refluxer
Among the least polite of the Bug family, this beast spits its venomous discharge on anyone it meets.
A venom-spewing arthropod, this Bug attacks at short range rather than get involved in the melee.
    Webmaster
An oversized gnaphosid mutation, this giant spider shoots its web to catch unfortunate beings and unlucky machinery.
A large spider that webs heroes and turrets, disabling their attacks temporarily.
  • Meaningful Name: It can disable turrets and Heroes' attacks, making them vulnerable to attack from the other bugs that spawn. Not as much of an issue for Heroes since they can Shove the webbing off themselves.
    Royal Shyness
An egg-laying bug queen, she generally seeks dark, uninhabited places to hatch her brood, and will move if discovered.
An aggression-avoiding bug who act as mobile spawn points for some of the lesser Bugs, rolling to untouched and (if available) unpowered rooms in order to deluge you with smaller waves of Bugs.
    Bug Momma
Representing several thousand kilos of angry and fertile insect queen, this giant mutation is exceeding difficult to destroy.
The leviathan-like protector of the Bugs. Attacks with a very large cone of venom that can melt its targets in seconds.
  • Advertised Extra: Shows up as the Big Bad of the Launch Trailer, but it's only one of the mid bosses.
  • Collapsing Ceiling Boss: From the second third of its health onwards, ceiling debris will fall between each attack the boss makes.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: Each 'phase' of the fight has it curl up to avoid damage, ending the wave you fight it in and forcing you to find another spawn point of the Bugs.
  • He Was Right There All Along: Wow, this is a big room! Wait, why is this Bug in a containment jar? Is that a cutscene? ... Oh.
  • Route Boss: Fought at the end of the Labour Colony floor.
  • Stationary Boss
  • Tactical Suicide Boss: If it remained curled up and let the waves work through the Heroes' defenses, it would easily survive thanks to the armouring on its back. Unfortunately for both it and you, it's justified by the fact that you manage to piss it off by breaking the containtment jars holding its fellow Bugs repeatedly.
