Character Sheet for El Club de Hopewell.

Allyson Martin

Our main character; a normal girl with two big contradictory personality traits: cynical (she usually perceives life in a very negative, jaded way), yet romantic (a daydreamer that fantasies about what the future may bring). She's a really smart and studious girl who however is mostly under big stress most of the time, in part because of the kind of friends she have, in part because of her own neurotic way of seeing life.

  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: While she's considered the most mature character out of the main three, she can be very bratty on her worst.
  • Damsel in Distress: Discussed and a big root of her insecurities: She sees Jake as strong and badass and Sarah as a cool trickster that can get away with anything while she consider herself a lot worse in both aspects, making her the one who would need rescue every once in a while.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Of all things, Allyson's turned out to be quite a more than decent cooker. And it's actually the one of the only thing she does better than her sister. She's somewhat embarrased by that, though, since she seems to think it clashes with her feminist ideals.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She likes rock and indie music over pop or other "softer" genres, and usually complains when she has to wear "girly clothing" (skirts, dresses, etc...), but it turns out she's a big Disney fangirl, decent in cooking (at least it's implied by her friends) and she has a very romantic side.

Jake Zabrocki

A young criminal. He met Allyson when both attended to kindergarden. Problematic and proud, Jake's the kind of person never wastes any opportunity to obtain some personal gain.

  • Book Dumb: Outside Fight Club, he never really express any interest in reading material academic nor recreative.

Sarah Greenberg

A really cute but completely bonkers gothic girl; she met Allyson and Jake when they were all 10. She's well-known for her joyful persona and unpredictible course of actions.

  • Ambiguously Brown: She's half Ashkenazi Jewish, half she-doesn't-really-know, but the bets are on Hispanic, Middle Eastern or First Nation.
  • Embarrassing Middle Name: Inverted: She WISHES she had one, and actually envies Allyson because of this. She actually have a very common and mundane second name (Eloise).
  • The Fashionista: Not in a conventional way of course; mostly because of the "interesting" Sarah's sense of style.
  • Stepford Smiler: While her constant smiling is seen as a natural trait of her personality, sometimes is left ambigous if she is really that bubbly and sparkly or if it's just a way to deal with her own unhappiness

Jessica Martin (Allyson's older sister)

  • Character Development: She got tired of being seen as the "High School Princess" in Hopewell and while she was (and still is in college) popular with boys, she's a disaster for relationships because she doesn't really how to deal with anyone outside a superficial level. Eventually she changes career and tries to find herself and take control of her own life for once instead of being the cute good looking girl that seems too perfect to be true
  • Parody Sue: She's extremely beautiful and was a really popular girl in High School AND was actually a pretty good student (her grades being always better than Allyson's); Allye likes to characterize her sister as a Brainless Beauty, but even she knows it's far from the truth.

Colleen Martin (Allyson's mother)

  • Character Development: In the "How I Met Your Father" story arc, she passes from a generic workaholic parent to reveal a li'l of her life as a teen.
  • I Was Quite a Fashion Victim: In a way: she's one of the first ones to wear flannel shirts and ripped pants in the late 80's, so she actually was a pioneer of the grunge style it will become popular in the early 90's.

Principal La Fontaine (Principal from Hopewell High)

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: As crazy as a goat, but somehow she keeps the school under (relatively) control and he truly cares about his students.

Finkel Weinbach

Will Hoggard (Sarah's first boyfriend)

Salvatore D'Ancona, "Toto" (President of the Film Club)

Ruth Greenberg (Sarah's grandmother)

Jordan Greenberg (Sarah's mother)

Dorian Greenberg (Sarah's older brother)

  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: To some degree. Being Sarah's older brother, he was expected to be at least a regular secondary character, but so far, he only appears twice in the two existing books.

Harold Zabrocki (Jake's father)

Nadia Milovic-Zabrocki (Jake's mother)

  • The Trickster: Jake's father is a criminal, but a really louse one: Once again, all of Jake's skills come from his mother.
