We Came, We Saw, We Kicked Its Ass!note

In General

  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: While they all have the classical tan jumpsuits from the movies, they also have alternate jumpsuits of different colors.
  • Composite Character: They are a composite of their original movie selves and their Real Ghostbusters incarnation. Their membership eventually expands to characters from the IDW comics, Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Extreme Ghostbusters and even the 2016 reboot.
  • Destructive Saviour: The Ghostbusters are very effective at capturing ghosts, but their primary weapons, the proton packs, are terribly inaccurate and burn through whatever they hit when they miss (which is often). That's not even getting into the larger threats, which tend to end up leveling city blocks before the Ghostbusters stop them. Gozer blew up the top few floors of a high rise building as a consequence of stopping her.
  • Hunter of Monsters: Well, hunters of ectoplasmic entities, which often happen to be monstrous.
  • Paranormal Investigation: Although they're more like a decontamination crew than detectives or investigators.
  • Reimagining the Artifact: Like the TMNT, the Ghostbusters are now set on Star City thanks to the devastation of New York City during the Manhattaning in 1987.
  • Who You Gonna Call?: They're the Trope Namers, as it's their Catchphrase when advertising their business of investigating paranormal activities and capturing/neutralizing ectoplasmic entities.
  • Working-Class Hero: Most of its members come from working class backgrounds.

Original Team

    Peter Venkman

Click for Ghostbuster Look

"The Mouth" of the team who functions as something of a leader due to being the most forward and direct with clients, critics, the press, etc. Always ready with a sarcastic quip when things turn dire.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Downplayed, Peter is slightly more attractive than his counterpart in the film. Key word being "slightly".
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The brunet to Egon's blonde and Ray's redhead.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He is a fairly smart guy. If only he cared enough to do anything with his smarts. He has PhD's in both psychology and parapsychology, but uses mostly the psychology one to help him get together with girls.
  • The Casanova: He mostly uses his smarts and people skills to hook up with girls, he even helped Ray a bit with that.
  • Circus Brat: Grew up as a carnival barker, although he eventually saved enough money to go and study at Midwestern University, leaving his family behind.
  • Con Man: Thanks to his carnival past and skills at manipulation, he managed to swindle universities and bluff his way into obtaining a parapsychology degree.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Full stream.
  • The Face: Peter is the group's ambassador and generally does the talking.
  • Glory Hound: The primary reason he's the face of Ghostbusters Inc. is that he wants his face in the newspapers, getting positive press whenever possible.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Has the heart of a hero but definitely not the manners.
  • Guile Hero: Can trick and bluff his way out of any pinch.
  • Last-Name Basis: He's usually referred to by his last name.
  • The Leader: By default, due to being the group's front man who's always the first to step forward.
  • Lovable Coward: For all his bravado, he's not exactly a brave guy; he'll step up to the plate if necessary, but very reluctantly, and will happily allow someone else to go first.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: He is a very intelligent man, but he comes off more like a Casanova Wannabe. He obviously doesn't have any real interest in parapsychology or psychology. Despite all this, the very fact that he was able to become a scientist in those fields speaks volumes of what he is capable of when he works at it.
  • Official Couple: He and Dana Barrett are on-and-off fiancees.
  • Parental Substitute: Treats Oscar Barrett almost like his actual son.
  • Phony Phony Psychic: He even pretended to be a psychic, and while Egon had his suspicions, Peter distracted him by introducing him to Ray.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: He's Only in It for the Money and treats what he does as a the paying job it is, not some selfless mission or higher calling for the good of mankind.

    Ray Stantz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ray_stanz_earth_27.jpg
Click for Ghostbuster Look

"The Heart" of the group, he's a scientist and inventor like Egon but also easily the most fun-loving, most enthusiastic member of the team who likes nothing more than uncovering and battling new ghosts.

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Has auburn hair like in the animated series to differentiate himself from his actor Dan Akroyd's natural hair.
  • Admiring the Abomination: He gets boyishly excited by a lot of the weird, gross and terrifying stuff they encounter.
  • Best Friend: His best friend is Egon Spengler.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Ray is honestly the nicest guy you will ever meet, but if you mess with any of his friends, whether you be human or ghost, he will not take it lightly.
  • Big Fun: Chubbier than his friends and the most fun-loving.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The redhead to Peter's brunette and Egon's blonde.
  • Cool Aunt: His aunt Lois motivated his interests in the occult and other esoteric pursuits, even giving him free reign of all the books on the occult she had kept in her private collection.
  • The Engineer: While Egon is typically the group's strategist during missions, Ray is the mechanic and practical inventor.
  • Genius Ditz: For the guy who was behind the creation of the proton packs and the Ecto-1, he sure doesn't have a lot in the common sense department.
  • The Heart: He's considered this by the rest of the Ghostbusting team.
  • Must Have Nicotine: Ray has a mild nicotine addiction.
  • Official Couple: Currently engaged to Jenny Moran.
  • Omnidisciplinary Scientist: He's a master engineer, metallurgist and astronomer, he's also an expert chemist, historian, biologist (including micro- & marine biology), marine spongiologist, physicist and an amateur architect.
  • Omniglot: He's fluent in eight ancient languages.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: He turned out very different from his siblings. His older brother Carl Stantz is a conservative, retired military, married with two sons and an alcoholic who hates terrorists, homosexuals and parapsychology, while his younger sister Jean Stantz is a journalist, is divorced, a Liberal, has a daughter, and is a feminist with two lovers of both genders. The only thing Carl and Jean have in common is that they hate Peter Venkman. All three siblings rarely see each other.

    Egon Spengler

Click for Ghostbuster Look

"The Head" of the group — designer of technology, planner of plans, spotter of obstacles, strategist, with a cold, clear, stoic attitude to match... or so he strives for.

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: He's blonde like in the animated series instead of dark-haired like in the movies.
  • Amicable Exes: He and Janine are ex-lovers but remain co-workers and friends.
  • Best Friend: His best friend is Ray Stantz.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The blonde to Peter's brunette and Ray's redhead.
  • Celibate Hero: He's aromantic, which is why his relationship with Janine didn't work.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Not to the extent as Ray, but still.
  • Collector of the Strange: He likes to collect spores, molds and fungus.
  • The Comically Serious: In his own words: "I'm always serious."
  • Missing Mom: His mother Katherine Sharpe left shortly after he was born, feeling she wasn't ready to be a mother, leaving him at the care of his distant biological father Edison Spengler.
  • Nice Guy: Although he's a mad scientist, whose methods are questionable, Spengler has a soft side only seen by his friends and Janine.
  • Noodle Incident: Egon tried to drill a hole in his head at some point. All we know is Peter stopped him before he could do it.
  • Omniglot: He's fluent in six languages and decent in five others.
  • One Degree of Separation: His former nanny, a foreign exchange student who shared his interest in mythology, was Julia Kapatelis.
  • Parental Neglect: His father Edison was always distant and never gave him affection, leaving him at the care of tutors and attractive nannies.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Jillian Holtzmann from the 2016 reboot is his estranged half-sister. He's also the half-brother of Harry Spengler, who is part of the Ghostfacers from Supernatural.
  • Specs of Awesome: Has some thick glasses.
  • The Teetotaler: He's the only original Ghostbuster who never drinks alcohol.
  • Too Much Alike: The main reason he and his sister didn't try to bond when they first met at Ivy University is that they thought the other was weird.

    Winston Zeddemore
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/winston_zeddemore_earth_27.jpg
Click for Ghostbuster Look

The normal one of the Ghostbusters, Winston joined when he saw an advertisement in the newspaper looking for a fourth member. The most down-to-earth member of the team, originally joined for the money, but is still a loyal and heroic member of the team.

  • Action Dad: Adoptive father of Ed and Maggie Zeddemore and a skilled Ghostbuster.
  • Big Brother Instinct: When his sister Tonya got pregnant and her boyfriend and her got in a heated argument, he was ready to punch the kid's teeth out had his sister not beat him to it by kicking the guy between the legs.
  • Blue Is Heroic: One of his GB jumpsuits is pale blue.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: He and Tiyah became friends at a young age, before dating in high school and later marrying.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Must be a job requirement.
  • Happily Married: To his wife Tiyah Clarke-Zeddemore.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Loves Aretha Franklin, Alan Parsons Project, and is a good singer.
    • After the military and before the Ghostbusters, Winston worked as a cab driver (with his father's company) and gas station attendant.
  • High-School Sweethearts: He and Tiyah began dating in high school and married shortly after graduating.
  • Honorary Uncle: Charles "Dolby" Dickles, Alan Scott's sidekick, is his godfather.
  • The Kirk: Provides the balance between the extremely intellectual Egon and the extremely emotional Ray (Peter never cared enough to take a side).
  • Only Sane Man: Compared with his colleagues, the quirky paranormal scientists, he has more common sense.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: Took up ghostbusting purely to get a steady paycheck.
  • Related in the Adaptation: His father Edward "Big Ed" Zeddemore is a character from The Real Ghostbusters. He's also the uncle of Patty Tolan from the 2016 reboot here. His adoptive children Ed and Maggie are part of the Ghostfacers from Supernatural.
  • Skepticism Failure: Didn't believe ghosts were real until after he joined the team.
  • Token Minority: The team's resident black guy.

Click for Ghostbuster Look

The Ghostbusters' secretary/receptionist, Janine is incredibly sarcastic but very loyal to the Ghostbusters, and often entrust her with keeping everything running that they are too busy to handle.

    Dana Barrett
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dana_barrett_earth_27.jpg

The first customer ever of the Ghostbusters and Peter Venkman's love interest.

  • Demonic Possession: Much like in the original movie, she ended up possessed by Gozer's minion Zuul.
  • Elegant Classical Musician: She's an expert cellist and violist.
  • Evil Costume Switch: After becoming possessed by Zuul, Dana Barrett greets Peter Venkman wearing only a diaphanous, flowing crimson dress which reveals a lot of skin.
  • Family Theme Naming: She and her younger brothers Doug and David Barrett.
  • Going Commando: The dress she wears while possessed by Zuul heavily implies she's not wearing anything underneath.
  • I Want Grandkids: Her mother Sandra constantly insisted on her getting married and giving her grandchildren. At least she managed to give her Oscar, even if the circumstances of his birth weren't the most ideal.
  • Lady in Red: When possessed by Zuul, Dana wears a revealing, red dress and her behavior becomes overtly sexual: first attempting to seduce Peter and later meeting and hooking up with Louis (possessed by Vinz Clortho).
  • Mama Bear: She doesn't need a Proton Pack to be a Action Mom!
  • Official Couple: She's the on-and-off fiancee of Peter Venkman.

  • Statuesque Stunner: She's 6"/183cm tall, and very attractive.
  • The Vamp: When possessed by Zuul, Dana acted in an overly sexual manner.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Thanks to the place and astrological time she was born, she always has had a connection to the supernatural, but it would take her several years before realizing it.

    Louis Tully

  • Disappeared Dad: His father Harold Tully left the family to pursue an affair and he never saw him again.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: At first towards Dana and later for Janine.
  • Fat and Skinny: The Skinny to Slimer's Fat.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason why he's so awkward around women is thanks to his mother trying to make him and his brother never betray women.
  • Hidden Depths:

    • Is the captain of the Ghostbuster Bowling Team.

The first ghost ever caught by the Ghostbusters and mascot of sorts. Known for eating quite a lot.

  • Badass Driver: Slimer likes to drive automobiles and buses. How he operates the pedals without feet remains unknown at this time (possibly through some form of telekinesis?). Where he learned this skill also remains unknown.
  • Benevolent Monsters: Other than eating a lot, Slimer is pretty much harmless for a supernatural entity.
  • Big Eater: Slimer is well known for his gigantic appetite. He even managed to out eat the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a pizza eating contest.
  • Blob Monster: Spherical, and made of slime.
  • Fat and Skinny: The Fat to Louis' Skinny.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Went from harassing guests at a hotel to helping humans catch other ghosts.

  • Undying Loyalty: To the Ghostbusters.

2013 Recruits

The manager of Ray's Occult Books and occasional Ghostbuster.

  • Ambiguously Bi: She's kind of bi...? She's not entirely sure about her sexuality and is currently not interested in a relationship.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Kylie often makes witty comments, which is why she gets along with Peter so well.
  • Goth: Gloomy Goth variant, though it's worth mentioning she isn't nihilistic or pessimistic.
    • Goth Girls Know Magic: Thanks to her grandmother Rose she's very much into the occult, being a capable summoner, banisher, bindwright, exorcist, ritualist and wardsmith.
  • Honorary Uncle: Sees the Ghostbusters almost like her uncles. She calls Ray "Sweet Uncle", Peter is "Annoying Uncle", Egon is "Weird Uncle", Winston is "Church Uncle", Janine is "Cool Aunt" and Ron Alexander is "More Annoying Uncle".
  • Ironic Fear: Of maggots. It might not normally count, but it's striking for someone so obsessed with the unusual.

    Bryan Welsh
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bryan_welsh_earth_27_0.jpg
Click for Ghostbuster Look

  • Ascended Extra: He and the other two rookies are based on the nameless player characters from the videogame.
  • Better as Friends: He and Maddie Collins used to date, but she broke it up since she wasn't looking for a serious relationship at the time and Bryan was getting attached.
  • The Driver: Bryan has recently begun taking piloting lessons. He and Ray Stantz have even been talking about building their own "Ectolight" aircraft (or possibly a small gyrocopter) to conduct aerial scans of the city. According to Maddie Collins, he's already an expert navigator and capable co-pilot.
  • The Engineer: Bryan has always been good with his hands. As a child, he always enjoyed deconstructing appliances to see how they worked and to challenge himself to put them back together again. By the time he was a teenager, he was making "improvements" to the family appliances and rebuilding his grandfather's old cars.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • His favorite pastimes are building and flying RC airplanes and drones.
    • He's very superstitious (won't walk under ladders, is very cautious around mirrors and black cats, calls of sick on Friday the 13th, etc).
  • New Meat: He, Chad Fuller and Maddie Collins are hired to be Ghostbusters right when the Hell on Earth incident happened.
  • The Non Descript: Bryan's not particularly good with his words. He gets tongue-tied and is not very assertive. Combined with having "one of those faces", Bryan is often overlooked, even by his own friends.
  • Official Couple: He's currently dating Ilyssa Selwyn.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Peter calls him Rookie most of the time.
  • Rescue Romance: After Bryan saved Ilyssa during the Hell on Earth incident, their meetings became romantic soon enough.

    Maddie Collins
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maddie_collins_earth_27_1.jpg
Click for Ghostbuster Look

Maddie was hired along with several other technical apprentices during the Ghostbusters' third year of operation. She's remained on as she's found no other company in town willing to give her as much regular excitement as she gets from busting.

  • Ace Pilot: Maddie is an all-around skilled aviator. her ability to pilot aircraft, includes but is not limited to the operation of single-engine airplanes, lightweight fixed-wings, helicopters, and hover-crafts, and (theoretically) commercial jet-liners and spacecraft.
  • Ascended Extra: She and the other two rookies are based on the nameless player characters from the videogame, given names by the IDW Comics.
  • Badass Driver: Maddie has the ability to operate most ground or water vehicles (car, truck, boat, motorcycle, etc). She can do more than get from one place to another and has an intuitive understanding of vehicle handling. Even vehicles that she has never operated can be handled with expert ability after just moments behind the controls.
  • Better as Friends: She and Bryan Welsh used to date, but she broke it up since she wasn't interested in a serious relationship at the time.
  • Hidden Depths: Loves "World's Largest/Tallest/Longest/Etc Landmarks" and curates a Cybergram account documenting all those she's visited: MadsMilestones.

    • Her other uncle is James Collins, a terrorist and enemy of the Justice League.
    • Her cousin Joseph Collins originates on the Batman: I, Joker one-shot.
  • Slept Through the Apocalypse: Thanks to not sleeping on a real bed for months, she slept for the first 15 hours of the Hell on Earth incident.
  • Tank-Top Tomboy: In her casual clothes, she wears a tank-top that exposes her navel and she's not particularly feminine.
  • Tattoo as Character Type: She has a scorpion tattooed above her right breast.
  • Thrill Seeker: Maddie loves taking risks. She is addicted to danger and high speeds. She is fearless to a fault.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Maddie's favorite food is sushi. Strangely, she prefers the cheap stuff.

    Chad Fuller
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chad_fuller_earth_27_1.jpg
Click for Ghostbuster Look

Chad was hired as a handyman and custodian to give regular maintenance to the aging firehouse which served as the Ghostbuster' original headquarters. After the destruction of the original base, Chad worked with Star City to find a suitable building as a replacement and expansion to the business.

  • Almighty Janitor: Chad is an all-around exceptional custodian and handyman.
  • Ascended Extra: He and the other two rookies are based on the nameless player characters from the video game, given names by the IDW comics.
  • Born Lucky: Chad has great karma or just an insane amount of good luck. The guy stumbles into success and good fortune without ever trying.
  • The Engineer: Chad knows how to solder and run interior wiring. He also knows his way around most of the Ghostbusters' simpler equipment. He won't bother trying to fix malfunctioning proton packs or muon traps, but he'll take apart a glitchy radio to fix it.
  • Famous Ancestor: His ancestor Judson Fuller, an american soldier that fought alongside Tomahawk's Rangers during the American Revolution.
  • Fanboy: He's a great fan of the Hex Girls, having worked as a handyman in their school, and when they became famous, he followed their tours.
  • Missing Mom: His mother Sondra Fuller was consumed by Clayface and became one of his identities, and despite saying otherwise, his family didn't believe him until several years later.
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: Chad subscribes to an eclectic range of folk philosophies, religious creeds, and spiritual ideologies. While he does not fully adhere to any one specific doctrine, he is fairly well-versed in the various practices and beliefs. He tends to take an a la carte approach to spirituality, extracting the wisdom baked into these various views.
  • Only Friend: He's one of the few actual friends of Ron Alexander.
  • Perma-Stubble: His five o'clock shadow goes well with his relaxed disposition.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Chad has a knack for cultivating, tending, and trimming plants. He, along with others, was a big proponent for the new Ghostbusters HQ to have a rooftop garden.

  • Two Guys and a Girl: He's very close with fellow rookies Bryan and Maddie.

(Former) Ghost Smashers

    Ron Alexander
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ron_alexander_earth_27.jpg
Click for Ghostbuster Look

Former owner and operative of Ghost Smashers, now reluctantly working under the Ghostbusters.

  • Boxed Crook: Mayor Oliver Queen allowed Ron to fulfill his community service by working for the Ghostbusters, besides they needed to know were he kept his spare Proton Packs.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Seems to be the end result whenever he attempts to improve or exploit technology designed by Egon.
  • Creative Sterility: While Ron can copy and rework just about any existing technology, he is not an innovator.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Brown hair and brown eyes.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: While he did cut corners and didn't understand some principles of the Ghostbusting equipment, Ron was smart enough to create a functional Proton discharger, capable of dispersing a ghost rather than catching it.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Envious at the success and fame obtained by the Ghostbusters, he created his own company in order to try and drive them out of business.
  • Jerkass: Even more so than Venkman, Ron is easily the least pleasant of all the Ghostbusters.
  • Parental Neglect: His parents were workaholics who never paid him much attention. After Ron had fled from home and found out his father had passed, yet only informed him after the funeral, it made Ron think his parents never cared about him.
  • The Rival: Even now he still sees the Ghostbusters as rivals, especially Winston and Peter, who are his personal rivals.
  • Two First Names: Ron and Alexander.

  • Cool Big Sis: Seen as this by Kylie Griffin.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Blonde haired and an incredibly nice woman.
  • Jack of All Trades: Thanks to the multiple events in her life, she has developed many skills, among them being an expert multi-tasker, business manager, delegator, mathematician and researcher.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother Virginia Moran died from injuries sustained on the same plane crash that killed Thomas Kord.
  • Official Couple: Currently engaged to Raymond Stantz.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her mother died in a plane crash and her father eventually left her to become a criminal in Gotham.
  • Pop-Cultured Badass: Jenny's favorite movies are the Star Wars films. She enjoys quoting them.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Her father is Montgomery Moran, a one time Golden Age Martian Manhunter foe called the Getaway King.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's 5'9"/175cm tall and very beautiful.
  • You Are Not My Father: When she found out her father Montgomery Moran had been arrested in Gotham, she all but disinherited him and told him to never contact her again.
