Dragonfly Station
Guy McCoy, head researcher and captain of the Dragonfly orbital science station. Except not really.
- Affectionate Nickname: Guy is almost exclusively called "Sir" by Blue. While initially it comes across as a formal quirk of Blue being an artificial intelligence, as the series develops it becomes clear that there is a deep fondness and regard behind the nickname as well.
- The Atoner: It's implied that Guy has shut himself away on the Dragonfly in part because of something he did in the past had terrible consequences resulting in the loss of his best friend and equally horrific consequences for the rest of civilization as a whole.
- Older Than They Look: Mari struggles with discerning how old Guy really is, guessing 40 years and 70 years old before giving up entirely. Guy is nearing 300 years old.
Blue is the bright and plucky artificial intelligence that runs the Dragonfly orbital science station. His happy-go-lucky attitude hides an intensely loyal friend determined to do what's best for Guy. Even when it means cluelessly subjecting others to abject psychological horror in order to figure out exactly what that is.
- Adorkable: Whether he's in his default avatar state, or using his kobold wizard avatar, and even when he's looking like a "real" dragon during an existential crisis Blue is quite cute and approachable.
- Hidden Depths: Even after he destroys Construct!Guy, Blue is shown taking his "ashes" and storing them away somewhere in his memory banks even as he wills for himself to forget them. It's implied he has done this myriad times before.
- AI Is A Crap Shoot: Played with. While Blue sincerely loves and regards Guy as a friend and earnestly works hard for Guy's well-being and happiness, he is shown to possibly see data constructs, even constructs of Guy, as tools and unfeeling objects and possibly has no qualms with terminating them or treating them poorly.
- Shrug of God: Lizard Soup is not sure himself whether Blue is actually conscious and sentient or has just become extremely good at pretending that he is, fooling even himself.
- Tomato in the Mirror: Played with. When being confronted by Construct Guy about Blue's treatment and thoughts toward constructs, Blue angrily declares that he is not a construct despite all evidence that he is.
The software engineer behind the Dragon Overseer AI systems and Guy's best friend, business partner and possibly more. Before the start of the story, Jules left the Dragonfly to deal with matters on Earth's surface. Guy has regretted the state their friendship was in when Jules left, but has not had the opportunity to make things right. Despite representing himself as a dragon in the holodeck's fantasy game, Jules is never seen in-person and is strongly implied to be as mammalian as the rest of the cast.
- Eye Scream: Between Guy's Construct's mural painting, Jules' own avatar and Blue's true AI form, it seems that Jules is either missing his right eye, or something happened to it in the past.
- Posthumous Character: Sometime before the start of the story, Jules along with Rowan and possibly Amelia were killed when their return capsule failed to safely return to the surface.
Data model of Guy that Blue has created from Blue's memories and knowledge of Guy to help him figure the best course of action to spur Guy on after he refuses to restore communications with the surface after making contact. After being subjected to 100 years of solitude, not only has he gone "off-model," embodying much of Blue's own existential horror, Construct Guy seems to have figured out a few additional things about the current situation with Blue and Guy. Given Blue's penchant to terminating constructs that are no longer useful, his deep love and regard for Guy and his desire for Guy to have a happy life, it's implied that this is not the first time this has happened and other Guy Constructs have gone rogue in the past before.

- Fan Nickname: Commonly called "Glue" (Guy+Blue) among longtime readers
- Hope Spot:
- Last of His Kind: The only one of hundreds of data constructs of Guy for the current experiment that survived a century of being truly alone, unable to "die." The others all had mental breakdowns and destroyed themselves.
