Wind Village

Temujin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/temujin.jpg

A young boy from the Wind Tribe which Doraemon and gang befriends on their first day in the Wind Village, and the primary human supporting character to the cast.

  • Badass Adorable: A child younger and shorter than Nobita, who helps the heroes battling Mafuga the kaiju-sized elemental dragon.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Goes crazy when thugs from the Storm tribe tries hurting his sister.
  • Blow You Away: Like every citizen of the Wind Village, he's trained since birth to manipulate and control wind with his spinning top. Naturally he's really good at it.
  • Blush Sticker: On his cheeks.

The Storm Village Elder

  • Cool Old Guy: A village elder who leads an entire population of wind-controlling mages can only be this.

Yaakju

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yaakju.jpg

After Nobita, in an attempt to save Fuuko from a storm ends up passing out in a blizzard, the two of them are rescued by a herd of yak, whose furs kept Nobita warm in the cold allowing him to survive. And then Nobita meets their leader, an all-powerful yak deity called the Yaakju.

  • Big Good: The wise, benevolent yak deity who lives in the mountains and worshipped as a god by the Wind Tribe.
  • The Chooser of the One: After saving Nobita, Yaakju entrusts the duty of keeping Fuuuko away from Uranda in his hands, in order to prevent Mafuga's awakening - or else have the world destroyed.
  • Gentle Giant: A massive yak behemoth, and he saves Nobita's life.
  • Meaningful Name: Yaakju is a kaiju-sized yak.
  • Mr. Exposition: Narrates to Nobita the details about the prophecy of Mafuga, the truth behind Fuuko's existance and her role in preventing the upcoming doomsday. Naturally Nobita have to narrate everything Yaakju told him to the village when he got back.
  • Psychic Powers: His mental powers are as strong as an ancient deity would have.
  • Seeing Through Another's Eyes: Shows Nobita a vision of the past regarding Uranda and Mafuga this way.
  • Telepathy: How he communicates with Nobita as an animal. Befitting an ancient yak deity with godlike powers.

The Wind Elementals

The ancient elementals that forms Mafuga, the ultimate evil.

  • Elemental Embodiment: They're elementals made of wind and air.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: All three of them, in general, since they're created to form the powerful Mafuga which will destroy the world. Fuuko, being the tail, is the least violent one of them, and is in fact playful and ends up becoming one of the heroes after forming a bond with Nobita.

Fuuko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fuuko_default.jpg
Default form.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fuuko_doll.jpg
Once Doraemon gave her a costume.

The "tail" of Mafuga, who hatches in Suneo's backyard early in the picture, accidentally destroying Suneo's RC car causing Suneo to chase her out. She ends up tagging behind Nobita while being pursued by an angry Suneo just as Nobita is on his way home from the local supermarket with an ice-cream in one hand... and unintentionally blows Nobita's snack on Gian's head. But then she saves Nobita from a beating by blowing Gian into a nearby dumpster and decides to follow Nobita home, and Nobita soon developed affections towards her.

  • A Boy and His X: A boy and his sentient wind elemental.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: From a cyclone with a single eye (in the original manga short) to a fluffy puff of cloud with actual, human-like features. And she gets even more adorable once Doraemon puts her in the instant costume machine!
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: The original Fuuko from the short story is an artificial egg created by 22nd-Century meteorologists to study tornadoes and cyclones. This one on the other hand is one of three ancient Cosmic Eggs meant to facilitate the rebirth of an ancient eldritch monster.
  • Adaptational Badass: The original Fuuko from the manga took down an ordinary storm, while this incarnation defeats and slays an apocalyptic elemental monster capable of destroying the world.
  • Animal Disguise: Sort of, she's a sentient wind elemental disguised as an anime dragon.
  • Containment Clothing: Downplayed, but the suit Doraemon puts Fuuko in is to limit her uncontrollable windpower so she wouldn't make a mess by blowing things around everywhere she goes.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: She can be really loud when whistling. And makes as much noise you'd expect a sentient, living typhoon to make.
  • The Cutie: A living cotton cloud with a face and a high-pitched voice can only be this.
  • Death by Newbery Medal: What her fate is pretty much invokes. She's introduced into the story as a friend to help Nobita develop, grow, get over hardships, only to die at the end so that Nobita can become stronger and tougher as he moves on and learns to deal with obstacles later on in life. Probably the first Doraemon example of this trope.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Her final scene has her costume form in Nobita's arms as she expires.
  • Eat Me: The final battle have her forcing a way through Mafuga's jaws, getting swallowed in the process, and finally destroying the monster permanently from within.
  • Fighting from the Inside: When she's assimilated into Mafuga, and Nobita yells at her from the outside to fight the demonic creature's influence. It works.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She momentarily becomes overly jealous when Nobita starts showing more affection towards Shizuka, until she slaps one of Shizuka's expensive toys to the floor and accidentally breaking it. This leads to Nobita scolding her and momentarily driving her away, but she reconciles with her master later on.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She gave up her life in order to destroy Mafuga, which she succeeds.
  • Killer Rabbit: She's cute, cuddly, fluffy, and absurdly powerful, capable of throwing foes larger than her around with ease.
  • Killed Off for Real: While wind elementals can reform and reshape themselves at will and are pretty much immortal, Fuuko however gave up her entire life-force to permanently destroy Gorado and the third spirit, ensuring Mafuga will never return, so she's essentially sacrificing herself permanently to save all of humanity.
  • Kill the Cutie: Did they ever.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: After seeing Nobita, unconscious from being knocked out by Mafuga in his attempt to save her, Fuuko finally loses it and takes on Mafuga herself. Firstly by flying into a nearby volcano and absorbing all the heat to empower herself, and then battling Mafuga heads-on.
  • Mundane Utility: Uses her powers to generate mini-tornadoes to clean Nobita's room within seconds.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Early on when she first meets Nobita, she saves Nobita from a beating by blowing Gian into a dustbin.
  • Pokémon Speak: Speaks with a "Fuu! Fuu!" although this was before Nobita decide to name her Fuuko.

Gorado

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gorado.jpg
Note the eyes.

The second egg, which forms Mafuga's chest, retrieved by the Storm Tribe.

  • All There in the Manual: His name isn't given in the anime adaptation, so audiences who watched the anime without reading the manga wouldn't know his name.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Fuuko. Gorado is a hostile, genuinely evil and malevolent wind elemental who wants to become part of Mafuga for more power.
  • Killed Off for Real: The same deal as Fuuko. He gets permanently destroyed after Mafuga's defeat.
  • Meaningful Name: "Gorado" is an alteration of the kanji for "tornado".
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He's depicted as having glowing red eyes in the anime.
  • Satellite Character: All of his major scenes have him interacting with his master, Uranda. He's pretty much just there as a villainous equivalent to Fuuko.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Born from an egg and is part of a universe-destroying elemental monster.

Villains

Uranda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uranda.jpg
Default form.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uranda_suneo.jpg
As possesed!Suneo.
An ancient, hostile wind spirit who controls the three elements - Fuuko, Gorado and a third, unnamed Red Egg that spawns the head of Mafuga. He was defeated and sealed in a casket centuries ago by a hero from the Wind Tribe, but was revived in the present for reasons not revealed until late in the story.

  • And I Must Scream: His fate - as soon as Mafuga awakens, he's suddenly sucked into a spirit-absorbing gadget by Professor Storm, the true villain of the picture, revealing himself to be the cause of all the trouble. And as Professor Storm ends the story being captured alive, the container Mafuga is sealed in will be confiscated by the Time Patrol and likely remain sealed for all eternity.
  • Body Surf: Briefly displays this ability early on when he escapes his casket prison and possess a wolf. He then exits the wolf and possess an unsuspecting Suneo, while the wolf turns back to normal and flees.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: After having Doraemon and Gian tied up, he then ditches Suneo's body which he is possessing... and then simply leaves them there. With a powerful sword capable of harming Uranda and Mafuga just nearby. Likely justified because he's too desperate to awaken Mafuga now he's got the chance, but still...
  • Too Important to Walk: Once he found a human body - Suneo's to be precise - he almost never walks, instead using an airborne throne on a mini-tornado to move about.
  • Mind-Control Eyes: His victims displays this trait, from the random wolf, to Suneo.
  • Possession Burnout: After leaving Suneo's body, Suneo then passes out, absolutely exhausted. It takes a few minutes - and the tied-up Gian and Doraemon shouting at Suneo - to wake him up.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: An evil spirit from ancient times sealed in an enchanted casket, until the Storm tribe opens it - under Professor Storm's orders.

Mafuga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mafuga.jpg
The Doomsday Dragon.

The powerful, world-destroying dragon born from fusing Fuuko, Gorado and the Red Egg. It goes on an uncontrollable rampage centuries ago before it's slain by a heroic warrior of the Wind Tribe, but there are evil forces intending to revive him in the present.

  • Dragons Are Demonic: A powerful dragon monster prophesized to end the world.
  • The Dreaded: The moment Nobita goes back to the village after he's rescued by Yaakju, he then tells them about the prophecy involving Mafuga, causing the entire village to go Mass "Oh, Crap!"
  • Fusion Dance: Created through the combination of Fuuko, Gorado, and a third unnamed red egg.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: Honestly, Mafuga hardly have any characteristics onscreen, besides "powerful elemental monster who wants to destroy the world".
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Splits into three pieces after Nobita, Doraemon and Temujin finally, finally gets the upper hand. One of those pieces reforms into Fuuko, awakening from Mafuga's control, but the other two - Gorado and the red egg turns back into Mafuga.
  • Kill All Humans: Mafuga doesn't want to leave any survivors upon awakening.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: This dragon is an Elemental Embodiment made from wind.

Professor Storm

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/storm_0.jpg
And the true villain of the picture is...

An archeologist from the future who despises humanity and wants to have the world reduced to ruins, after discovering the prophecy of Mafuga in the 22nd Century and an amulet that controls it, Professor Storm traveled to the past via Time Machine, manipulating the Storm Tribe into becoming his minions as he intends to use them to revive Mafuga.

  • Continuity Nod: This isn't the first time a villain from Doraemon's Long Tales turns out to be a Time-Traveler from the 22nd Century who went back to the past to reshape history into his own liking and preference. Gigazombie and Cash more or less uses the same schtick.
  • Foreshadowing: Early in the story, he managed to recognize Doraemon as a "22nd-Century robot cat" despite being the leader of a secluded tribe cut off from the world. Which ticks some hints that he's not from this timeline, but probably from the future like Doraemon.
  • Hidden Villain: He appears to be a chieftain of the ruthless Storm tribe. Turns out he's the actual Big Bad of the story, manipulating the tribespeople into awakening Uranda and instigating the apocalypse.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: The air elementals are hardly sapient. Uranda, despite being a powerful spirit from aeons ago, is just a shell Made of Evil acting on his own instincts, as is the powerful storm dragon Mafuga. Professor Storm on the other hand is the human villain who wants to awaken all that is evil to destroy the world, and rule over all of humanity once he took control of Mafuga, as well as the actual Big Bad of the picture.
  • The Man in Front of the Man: When Uranda-as-Suneo reveals himself to the Storm tribe, Professor Storm is quick to have his men worship Uranda... because he needs Uranda around for awakening Mafuga, which he'll hijack once the ritual is complete.
  • Manipulative Bastard: After learning of the prophecy regarding Mafuga's awakening, Professor Storm travels to the past, establishes the Storm tribe, starts a war between them and the neighboring peaceful Wind tribe and uses them to awaken Uranda so he could access means to control Mafuga.
  • Meaningful Name: Professor "Storm", who wants to harness the powers of the storm to annihilate all life on earth.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Awakens Mafuga to destroy the world while he watches from a safe distance in his airborne vessel, and then create a whole new era to his liking.
  • The Starscream: Appears to serve Uranda, but then seals him within a moment's notice.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Tries to bail after Mafuga is destroyed, but Doraemon shoots him down with the Air Cannon.
