Characters / Dorabase Akane Flyers

Go To

The main antagonist team of the Kabuto Mushi Cup, they’re themed after dragonfly and led by Amoll. Their main schtick are blackmailing and cheating.

  • Heel–Face Turn: Becomes friends with Doras after defeated by them.
  • Meaningful Name: All the 9 members’ name are dragonflies.
  • The Unfettered: Amoll specifically, and the whole team to some extent. Even though he had great skills and a strong Signature Move, he probably needed to make sure that he wins through the Kabuto Mushi Cup. He didn't, but Gagne allows him to play baseball anyways.

Position: Pitcher
Jacket number: 01

The team's captain and pitcher. He is a robot created from the braincell of Gagne - the president of E.A.F Airline - and is expected to manage the company. His one characteristic is that he will use all sorts of dirty tricks to win. Luckily, he makes a Heel–Face Turn later.

  • Animal Motif: Dragonfly. It appears in all of his techniques.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Smiles all the time and acts in a polite manner, but is a cheater who manipulates things behind the scene.
  • Broken Ace: Being created from Gagne’s braincell, Amoll is regarded as a genius with brilliant mind, pretty face (even for a cat robot) and undoubtable baseball skill, and already has the manager position in the successful E.A.F Airline. However, he’s forbidden from his actual interest and expected to follow all of his owner’s orders, to the point he has to make a deal and do anything possible to ensure the victory, in order to gain the “freedom” his robot fellows always have.
  • Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Subverted, since Amoll wins against Shiro anyways. He does eventually get defeated by the Doras in the finale.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason he has to use every dirty tricks possible to win is because if he doesn’t, he will never be allowed to touch the baseball glove again.
  • Just a Machine: Is considered as this by Gagne, his owner. Leads to a bit of Fridge Horror, since all the other robot characters (sentient ones at least) can freely do whatever they want, implying that Gagne still thinks of robots as slaves that are bound to humans.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He has pulled many strings to ensure his victory in the Kabuto Mushi Cup, from sending Mikeemon, a fanboy of him, in to disturb Doras from the inside, blackmailing Guriemon into facing his former friends, to foolish Shiroemon via a letter impersonating Kuroemon.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Amoll always smiles, no matter what happens. Also counts as a Stepford Smiler, since he acts as the antagonist during the Kabuto Mushi Cup arc.
  • Princely Young Man: He’s created from Gagne’s braincell and in a way, is the latter’s son, so he’s expected to spend his entire life managing the mega corp that is E.A.F Airlines. His attitude is similar to the Gentleman-type, being an affable, charismatic, popular young man, but actually is a manipulative Bitch in Sheep's Clothing. He comes back to being a gentleman after taking a level in kindness.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After Gagne allows him to play baseball, and witnessing Mikee’s kindness when he shares the victory flag to Akane Flyers, Amoll decides to change into a better person. When we meet him later in the series, Amoll becomes very affable and courteous, completely different from his former manipulative Jerkass self.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His name can be written as Amoll or Emoll.
  • Stepford Smiler: Behind all the popularity he has, he struggles to play baseball since his owner doesn't allow him to.
  • Tragic Villain: There’s no doubt that he’s a dirty cheater, but he feels compelled to do so or else he will lose his freedom.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: He is a well-adored baseball star, and also a cheater who will use any dirty trick to win.
  • The Worf Effect: While he is still overall a dangerous pitcher and opponent to deal with, he probably suffers the worst case of it among all the rival pitchers Kuro and the Dora's have faced. Over the series after his limelight arc, almost all of his major pitching appearances involve him getting smacked around by stronger opponents; Alice and her fellow UK players, the entire Cuban team (who he suffer against together with Pokoemon) and Drump in WABC, Monta in the All-Japan Tournament, and lastly Shiroemon in the All-Star arc— in other words, the series hasn't been very kind to him after his debut.
