Characters / Digimon - Legend-Arms

Go To

The Legend-Arms, also known as Weapon Digimon, are unique Digimon who carry out transformations into giant, peerless weapons based on the master they choose, and which according to legend, "if held by an angel will save the world, and if held by a demon will destroy the world." The strongest sword among the Legend-Arms is Durandamon, while the strongest shield is said to be Bryweludramon. The Legend-Arms in the LS-tou Zone used their strongest member, Spadamon, to repel invaders, but eventually, they seemingly sealed away its abilities and memories before releasing it in a different Zone, which allowed the invading army to occupy the Zone and force the other Legend-Arms into stasis.

Tropes applying to the Legend-Arms as a whole:

  • Living Weapon: The Legend-Arms are Digimon that can also turn into weapons.

Durandamon

    Zubamon

Zubamon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zubamon.jpg
Debut: Digital Monster Ver.20th

One of the "Legend-Arms", who are capable of transforming themselves into weapons. A legend about the Legend-Arms goes, “if held by an angel it will save the world, and if held by a demon it will destroy the world.” Zubamon carries the ”Twentiest” data, and often shouts out “I am the Twentiest!” despite not understanding what it means. It despises crookedness, and is constantly seeking sharpness. A day where its battles, jokes, and sharpness turn out well will leave it in high spirits. Although it has a technique, "Twenty Dive", in which it charges head-first, Zubamon's true power is exhibited while it is in its weapon form.

Zubamon, along with its previous forms Sakumon and Sakuttomon, were created for Digimon's 20th anniversary

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Its "20 Scratch" note  where it scratches with the claws on both hands.
  • Bling of War: Zubamon is covered in golden armor.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The "Legend-Arms" Digimon were established back when Spadamon was introduced all the way back in 2010.
  • Living Weapon: Part and parcel of being a Legend-Arms.
  • Meaningful Name: Zuba comes from zubazuba meaning "straightforwardly".
  • Numerological Motif: 20, in keeping with it being created to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary.
  • Use Your Head: Its "Twenty Dive" where it charges head-first at the opponent.

    ZubaEagermon

ZubaEagermon (Zubaeagermon)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zubaeagermon.jpg
Debut: Digital Monster Ver.20th

"I, who am the Twentiest, will never halt! I'm going to keep on running forth!" With those words carved into Zubamon's heart, it evolved into a form that embodies that forward-charging style. ZubaEagermon's policy is simply to continue charging forth without pause, no matter if smooth or rough terrain awaits it, or even if it has to crawl and struggle to continue forward.

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: By transforming itself into its prided sword form, it is able to slice through any enemy using 100% of its strength.
  • Bling of War: As with the rest of its line, it's golden.
  • Determinator: It will keep charging forth even if it has to crawl and struggle to do so!
  • Foe-Tossing Charge: Its preferred method of attack, even to the point of ignoring anything in its path. Its "Road T(w)o Decade" where it thrusts straight into the enemy's chest while shouting "Twentiestttt!!".
  • Living Weapon: Part and parcel of being a Legend-Arms.
  • Meaningful Name: Zuba comes from zubazuba meaning "straightforwardly".
  • Morph Weapon: As one of the Weapon Digimon, it's capable of turning into a weapon, in its case a sword.
  • Numerological Motif: Twenty. Like Zubamon, it even has the number emblazoned on its helmet-blade.
  • Spin Attack: Its "Vingtième" note  where it curls its body into a ball and spins towards the enemy, slicing them with its tail blade.
  • Unusual Weapon Mounting: It has a BFS on its tail and a second on its helmet.

    Duramon

Duramon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/duramon.jpg
Debut: Digital Monster Ver. 20th

As it continues to sprint forward, this Perfect level Digimon is a step closer to crossing into the world on the other side. Although it knows not what future awaits it, it continues training and tempering its swords to cut through any obstacles that stand in its way. When it transforms itself into a weapon, it uses the characteristic greatsword on its back to unleash countless varieties of attacks.

    Durandamon

Durandamon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/durandamon.jpg
Debut: Digital Monster Ver. 20th
Attacks: (Original) Zwanglänzenote , Thron Messernote ; (Dub) Zwei Glänze/Zwanglänze, Thron Messer

A Digimon possessing the ultimate holy blade, it evolved by honing its sword to its best ability and attaining data on 'legendary swords' found in mythology and video games. Boasting strength that puts it among the strongest Legend-Arms capable of transforming into swords, it is said that wielding Durandamon in sword form will surely bring about victory. Its slashing attacks are fierce enough to cut through any sort of defense, although there have been records that only the strongest of the Legend-Arms Digimon capable of transforming into shields are able to withstand Durandamon's attacks.

Bryweludramon

    Ludomon

Ludomon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ludomon.jpg
Without armor
Debut: Digital Monster Ver.20th

One of the 'Legend-Arms', who are capable of transforming themselves into weapons. It is the only one among the 'Legend-Arms' capable of transforming itself into a shield. It wields sturdy, steel shields on its head and on both arms, protecting it from attacks coming from any direction. As a Digimon made with protection in mind, there have been records of it protecting areas being targeted by the D-Brigade. Not only that, Ludomon is also able to exhibit its defensive abilities at their maximum strength while it is transformed into a shield.

  • Dual Wielding: A pair of clawed shields, which it uses for its "Wall Rake" to either attack or defend.
  • Living Weapon: Comes with being a Legend-Arms.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Based around the concept. It wields a pair of clawed shields and wears a helmet with the same design.
  • Meaningful Name: Ludo comes from Shīrudo 「シールド」, a Japanese romanisation of 'shield'.

    TiaLudomon

TiaLudomon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tialudomon.jpg
'Debuted in: Digimon Pendulum Ver.20th

The evolved form of Ludomon, it has grown even more durable and attained outstanding speed. It dashes at high speed across battlefields, rescuing straggling Digimon who are no longer able to fight. It is capable of transforming itself into a shield to be wielded to aid in escaping the battlefield, protecting its wielder from any attack that comes their way. TiaLudomon's shields have magical properties that allow it to erect barriers of ice, which freeze and nullify opponent attacks.

  • An Ice Person: Able to create barriers of ice, as seen in its artwork.
  • Barrier Warrior: It can create barriers of ice, an ability which apparently isn't one of its named attacks.
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning: It fill the Ice portion of this trope while it evolved forms fill the Fire and Lightning portions.
  • Living Weapon: Well, living shield, but it comes with the territory of being a Legend-Arms.
  • Meaningful Name: Tia is possibly comes from Teal (ティアル Tiaru), a blueish color, or Theia (テイアー Teiā), a titaness in Greek mythology and Ludo comes from Shīrudo 「シールド」, a Japanese romanization of 'shield'.
  • Morph Weapon: It can turn itself into a shield.
  • Noble Wolf: Invoked. It wears wolf-themed armor and shields and acts to rescue the wounded in wars.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: Its "Frisbicker" where it throws the shields on its arms.
  • Wolverine Claws: Its "Assault Claw" where it charges at high speed and attacks with its claws.

    RaijiLudomon

RaijiLudomon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raijiludomon.jpg
Debut: Digital Monster Ver.20th

The evolved form of TiaLudomon, it has been further mechanised and attained the ability to fly. By sacrificing its agility, it gained durability that allows it to withstand even an attack from an Ultimate level head-on. The shields attached to its shoulders and arms automatically put up an electric barrier which cannot be seen, causing enemies to be confused as to why their attacks are not working. Not only that, it is also able to increase the area covered by its barrier in exchange for being unable to move, allowing it to protect entire regions to a certain extent.

  • Barrier Warrior: Its "Lightning Buster" generates electricity at high output from its head and uses it to strike the enemy at the cost of its speed. It can take this even further by expanding its barrier to cover huge areas at the cost of immobilizing itself.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Part of an evolution line personifying this concept. Its arms are covered with shields.
  • Shock and Awe: Its shields and one of its attacks are electrical in nature in contrast with TiaLudomon's ice barriers.
  • Some Kind of Force Field: It can make invisible barriers.
  • Wolverine Claws: It has them on its gauntlets just like TiaLudomon.

    Bryweludramon

Bryweludramon (BryweLudramon)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bryweludramon.png
Debut: Digimon Pendulum Ver.20th
Attacks: Crimson Storm, Blast Smash

An Ultimate Legend-Arms shield Digimon, virtually all of its body is comprised of shields and has taken the form of a dragon. By attaining the data of "Legendary Shields", from mythology and video games, it evolved to become a shield with absolute hardness, one that cannot even be scratched by any attack. While appearance-wise it seems to be made from Red Digizoid, the extent of its hardness cannot be analyzed. Bryweludramon has two standalone AI units, "Gause" and "Fay", which allow it to see in all directions. "Gause" and "Fay" also possess barriers made from flames, and are able to extend the scope of their barriers to cover even Bryweludramon. Because "Gause" and "Fay" are capable of acting independently of Bryweludramon, no matter how far-separated they are, it is said that they are even capable of covering the entire world with their barriers. Although Bryweludramon may be the strongest shield, it seems that its barriers have been broken and bested by its nemesis, Durandamon.

  • Arch-Enemy: Considers Durandamon its nemesis. Fittingly, they personify opposite concepts.
  • Barrier Warrior: Can create barriers of fire, which it uses when performing a Foe-Tossing Charge.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Durandamon's profile, released before Bryweludramon's, mentioned that only the strongest shield Digimon could withstand it. Bryweludramon is that Digimon.
  • Drone Deployer: Has two mobile AI units named Gause and Fay.
  • Foe-Tossing Charge: Its Blast Smash attack involves it performing one while encased in a barrier of fire.
  • Equippable Ally: Like all Legends-Arm Digimon, it turns into a weapon someone else can wield. In this case, a shield.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: It's made entirely out of shields and fire.
  • Playing with Fire: It rounds out the Fire, Ice, Lightning theme that its previous two evolutions started by creating barriers of flame.
  • Shout-Out: To Prydwen, the shield of King Arthur.
  • Wreathed in Flames: It's capable of wrapping itself in Gause and Fay's flame barriers, as seen in its official artwork then charging the enemy.

Jogress Evolution

    RagnaLordmon

RagnaLordmon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ragnaloardmon.jpg
Debut: Digimon Pendulum Ver.20th
Attacks: Direct Smasher, Ignition Prominence, Duel Edge-Flowsion

A Digimon born from the Jogress between Durandamon, the strongest sword among the Legend-Arms, and Bryweludramon, who is said to be the strongest shield. It is said to have been born when an evil being lurking in the depths of the Dark Area awakened, and the Digicores of the two Legend-Arms resonated with each other. Its main body, formed from the fusion of the Digicores at a higher plane, was made in the image of "the knight that would wield them" as imagined by Durandamon and Bryweludramon.

While Ragna Lordmon is a Jogress form, it is unusual in that it still retains Durandamon and Bryweludramon's consciousnesses, while the main body itself has its own, separate consciousness. The sword and shield hover and move out of their own wills without coming into direct contact with Ragna Lordmon; they make sport of the enemy with the way they enact their offensive and defensive maneuvers like three separate beings in one body. Their level of coordination is stunning, giving rise to its absolute defense and sudden and unpredictable, yet powerful attacks, which are nigh impossible to overcome.

  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: The official translation is "Ragna Loardmon". The a isn't meant to be there, and appears to have somehow merged "Lord" and "Load" together as "Lord" can be translated to both "Load" and "Lord". (which has caused the translation of the Royal Knight LordKnightmon to sometimes be translated as LoadKnightmon).
  • Born of Magic: When Durandamon and Bryweludramon jogressed, the fusion created RagnaLordmon to wield them in the idealized image of their wielder.
  • Fusion Dance: The result of a Jogress between a Durandamon and a Bryweludramon. It's unique in that Durandamon and Bryweludramon's consciousnesses still exist within their respective arms, while RagnaLordmon's body is a separate entity regardless.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Its Direct Smasher has RagnaLordmon bisect the enemy with its sword.
  • Kill It with Fire: Duel Edge-Flowsion, RagnaLordmon's strongest attack, has it impale the enemy with its sword while it's covered in the shield's flames, completely incinerating the enemy down to the last byte.
  • Playing with Fire: Its Ignition Prominence has it spew high-temperature flames from its shield, turning its surroundings into a sea of fire.

Spadamon

    Spadamon

Spadamon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spadamon_b.jpg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spadamon_weapon_form.png
Weapon form
Debuted in: Digimon Xros Loader (Digimon Code Crown 02: SSS Discovery)

One of the legendary "Legend-Arms" who according to legend, "if held by an angel will save the world, and if held by a demon will destroy the world", it is a Weapon Digimon that transforms itself into a weapon. Although its personality is earnest and serious, it has a side that is weak to pressure. Its combat abilities are low, but it shows its true merit when it becomes a weapon.

Spadamon is also a known member of the Xros Heart (Fusion Fighters) army, and is partnered with Taiki (Mikey) Kudo.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: It was the first Legend-Arms Digimon introduced, in 2010. Some more of them appeared in 2017 and 2018.
  • Equippable Ally: It can turn into a lance, one that dramatically increases the power of whoever wields it. Apparently this is the same for all Weapon Digimon.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Spadamon doesn't remember its past, or its hidden abilities. Nor does it remember how to recover those memories.
  • Last of His Kind: All the other Weapon Digimon were defeated long ago.
  • Magikarp Power: It's not a very impressive fighter, but when it turns into a weapon, all bets are off.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Spada is Italian for "sword"... and yet Spadamon turns into a lance.
  • Out of Focus: Spadamon got a good amount of publicity when it first appeared, a starring role in the Xros Wars games and anime, and since then it's fallen into obscurity, though it made a return in Digimon Adventure: (2020).
  • Panthera Awesome: It looks like a white lion cub.
  • Retcon: Hoo... Its Digimon Reference Book profile removes a lot, such any mention of the LS-tou Zone, Spadamon's Laser-Guided Amnesia or it being the last of its kind (since that part is, at least, definitely not true), as well as being the strongest. It also changes Spadamon from being un-levelled, like most Digimon introduced in the Xros Wars media, to a Rookie, before the mass retcon that followed suit.
  • Sweet Tooth: The one that appears in 'Xros Wars'' loves sugary food so much that once he has been healed by the main characters, he convinces them to help him protect a part of the Digital World called the "Sweets Zone.

Armamon

Debuted in: Digimon Story: Super Xros Wars
A legendary Weapon Digimon that is the final boss of Digimon Story: Super Xros Wars. It was born from a Digital Virus that was equipped with the Galactic Sword, a blade made from the data of the Demon Lord Barbamon.

OmegaArmamon BM

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/omegaarmamon_burst.jpg

Armamon's final form, gained through Barbamon merging with Armamon. Its body has features from its forming Digimon, such as Barbamon's robe and the ethereal appearance of Armamon. It possesses six arms equipped with their respective weapons: 4 different kind of swords which represent the classical elements of nature (fire, ice, thunder and light) and the main one inherited from Barbamon's power of darkness. It also has a sort of spiked brass knuckles in one of its hands.
