     Takashi Nagasawa

Takashi Nagasawa

A student of Seiryou highschhool thought to be melodramatic by his peers. He becomes infected by the Nightshift virus after being bitten a monstrous rat. The good news is that he can take medication to slow his infection down. The bad news is that the only source of that medication is a Mad Doctor, who uses him as a weapon against Nightshift infectees in exchange.
  • Asleep in Class: He gets very little sleep because of having to hunt zombies at night so he is exhausted and capable of falling asleep on the spot.
  • Bad Dreams: His dreams are frequently haunted by a giant rat after the rat incident.
  • Blatant Lies: Kyouko humours him (for the moment) when he tries to dissuade her from thinking they were chased by zombies the night before but he looks very obviously sketchy saying that.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Occasionally. It's no wonder considering the bizare dreams he gets.
  • Comical Nap Drool: When he drools on his school desk after falling asleep in class. His classmates and teachers don't know what happening with him so they are mostly amused, bewildered or just this little worried since he doesn't look well.
  • Cowardly Lion: Nagasawa is timid in nature, afraid of heights, germs and constantly teased because of the rat incident. That doesn't stop him from fighting the Nightshift, in part to keep his medication supply and in part because he wants to protect people from getting eaten by zombies.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: As result of having to fight for his life every night and kill Nightshift infectees who used to be human. His friends worry about him when they see him like this, but they can't known anything.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: He doesn't seem to be much taller than the other boys in his class, but Kyouko barely reaches up to his shoulders.
  • I Am a Monster: Nagasawa struggles with the concept of being the same as the Nightshift. Having to deal with Doc or growing claws does not make it any easier on him.
  • Limited Wardrobe: When he opens his wardrobe in an early chapter, there is nothing else but his school uniforms. One of his classmates notes how weird it is to seem him in casual clothes on their trip.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Essentially his reaction to finding out he killed a man.
  • Free-Range Children: It's a stretch to call the sixteen years old Nagasawa a child, but his parents traveled abroad for business reasons and he is on his own. Still, it means that noone is going to wonder why he is away whole night and comes back bloodied and injured.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: He hates Doc with passion, but needs the medication sourced by him just as much.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: A high school student by day, antizombie weapon by night. That messes one up.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: He is one until a Nightshift-infected rat bites him.
  • Properly Paranoid: He freaks out upon being bitten by a lab rat. His peers think he is melodramatic and he might have been at the moment, but his concern was not entirely unfounded considering what happens later on after being bitten by a slasher movie-esque rat.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: He denies having any closer relationship with Kyouko to keep Doc away. Araya doesn't buy it either.
  • Spider-Sense: He can sense other Nightshift infectees and seems to have an urge to fight them when close.
  • Super-Strength: Outside of ripping the infected apart, Nagasawa's strength is shown in subtle ways like lifting Kyouko without any problems, crushing a glass in his hand and carrying more bag than his friends can handle.

     Kyouko Shirai

Kyouko Shirai

  • Improbable Weapon User: She sprays zombies with a fire extingusher to buy herself and Nagasawa more time to run.

     Araya

Araya

  • Kindhearted Rat Lover: He is good, just seems to care more about his lab rats than his friends sometimes. Nagasawa calls him a mice fanatic.
