  • Arm Cannon: Wields one which is capable of healing both himself and his allies every time it deals damage.
  • Badass Bookworm: Described as having a "vast intellect" and was a scientist prior to the Darkspore invasion, but can turn hordes of Darkspore to chunky salsa just like everybody else.
  • Green Thumb: Tree of Life, which summons a massive tree where it's cast, growing as damage is dealt to nearby enemies and healing nearby heroes. After a short period of time, the tree with explode, further healing nearby heroes based on how big the tree got. This also applies to his Strangling Briars ability, which slows enemies caught in them and deals damage over time.
  • The Minion Master: Sage constantly summons minions while he's on the field, up to two at a time.
  • Plant Person: Sage's body is covered in thorns and his limbs look like branches.
  • Science Hero: Prior to the Darkspore invasion, Sage was a brilliant scientist as described in his lore.

Tork, the Fungal King

Bio Tempest. A thief who repented upon becoming one of Crogenitor Astra's 'test subjects' and being imprisoned for a decade.

  • Achilles' Heel: None of his abilities deal any direct damage; as such, he deals zero damage to any Elite Mooks with the Unstoppable quality.
  • Anti-Debuff: Sporogenesis, which heals friendly characters and is one of the few ways to directly remove debuffs from characters.
  • Cool Mask: He wears a gas mask that prevents him from inhaling his own knock-out mist.
  • Forced Sleep: Sleeping Cloud, which puts enemies to sleep. Notably, Tork is the only hero capable of putting enemies to sleep in the first place.
  • Knock Out Gas: He uses this to render those who inhale it unconscious, giving Tork the chance to raid their items.
  • Magic Mushroom: His unique abilities revolve around the usage of fungi to various effects.
  • Poisonous Person: Receives one during a horrible experimentation by Astra. Most of his abilities revolve around poisoning enemies, most notably Toxic Spores, his basic attack.
  • Support Party Member: All of his attacks either deal damage over time or inflict some kind of status ailment. However, he can buff nearby characters with his Rampant Growth passive and is one of the two characters capable of removing debuffs.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Astra's experimentation greatly amplified his abilities, but in return drove him insane to the point of a Heel–Face Turn.

Arborus, the Viridian Protector

He is a Bio Sentinel. A government prefect forced by war into becoming an Ikuyu - a God of the Infinite Green - despite not being spiritually qualified for the position.

  • Achilles' Heel: Enemies with the Ghostly quality, as his focus on dealing Physical damage is big enough that he'll take far more damage trying to hit the enemy that it isn't worth the health lost. This gets worse on higher difficulties, where the chance of the enemy dodging his swings goes up drastically.
  • Boring, but Practical: Arborus' gameplay is nothing particularly exciting, but the amount of damage he can deal is staggering given some weaker enemies to hack through.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Wields a massive wooden club.
  • Dash Attack: Entangling Rush, which comes with the bonus of entangling both the target and nearby enemies in roots, immobilizing them.
  • Green Thumb: Arborus has the power to control nature itself.
  • Got Volunteered: Was forced into the Darkspore war due to the Verdanthi needing another Ikuyu.
  • Physical God: According to his lore, he has the ability to summon volcanoes, redirect rivers, and split mountains. However, he can do none of this ingame.
  • Made of Iron: Aside from being a tank and having a lot of health, Arborus has the Thorn Bark passive which decreases incoming damage and reflects some as well.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Arborus has two sets of arms.
  • Treants: He's an imposing figure who's body is covered in leaves and has massive limbs that resemble tree trunks.

Viper, the Toxic Ravager

Bio Ravager. A craftsman who was genetically altered by Astra and became a resistance leader.

  • Animal Theme Naming: Viper has various poison-based powers, hence why he's named after a kind of highly venomous snake.note
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Led a resistance against the Darkspore invasion prior to the events of the game and made a great deal of weapons for them beforehand. His powers revolve around poisoning his enemies multiple times over before killing them in a single stroke.
  • Damage Over Time: Where most of his damage comes from - notable in the sense that he as more ways of inflicting it than anybody else.
  • Glass Cannon: As is the case with most Ravagers, he's quite fragile, but can deal a remarkable amount of damage when handled properly.
  • La Résistance: A leader of one, according to his lore.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Is the only character to revolve around stacking various Damage Over Time effects on enemies, and can inflict up to three different types when playing as his standard variant. Where he gets really unique is with Expunge, which cleanses the target of any damage over time effects, but not before dealing all the damage those effects were going to do at once. Knowing how to inflict his status effects on enemies is crucial when getting him to work properly. In addition, he is the only Bio Ravager in the game.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Viper has two pairs of arms.
  • Plant People: Covered in thorns along his back, with one variant replacing said thorns with leaves.
  • Poisonous Person: Focuses directly on poison-based abilities and wields several.
  • Poisoned Weapons: Zig-zagged. He's depicted as wielding a poison-covered knife in promo art and described as wielding such in his lore, but his weapons ingame don't deal poison damage directly. Rather, all of his attacks can poison enemies, bar Expunge.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Depicted with these in promotional art.
  • Spike Shooter: His Thornado ability, which shoots thorns around him, dealing damage to whatever enemies are too close.

Savage, the Lord of Beasts

  • Auto-Revive: His pet can do this for him once per mission, provided it's still alive.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: He doesn't wield any proper weapons and becomes one exclusively if his pet is killed.
  • The Beastmaster: Has access to a special minion referred to as "Savage Ally," who will attack alongside him and is the only minon that can use abilities alongside their summoner.
  • Draw Aggro: His pet can do this if enraged; particularly useful when his Beta form is selected, which has direct access to an ability that can be used to enrage said pet.
  • The Empath: Savage can communicate empathically with animals.
  • Foe-Tossing Charge: Wild Charge. His pet will charge with him if it's alive.
  • It Only Works Once: His pet can revive him once a level, provided it's alive as he dies.
  • Master of None: Without his pet, his damage output, abilities and stats are none too impressive.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Savage is completely reliant on having his pet around - without them, he's particularly weak and a Master of None. In addition, he is the only hero in the game capable of reviving himself - if his pet is alive as he dies, the pet will revive Savage with some of his health back, though this only works once per level.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Accoridng to his lore, Savage can communicate with animals both empathically and through pheromones.
