Amduscias
Akinori Nakagawa (2022 and 2024)
A duke of hell and leader of 29 legions, also known as the Devil of Music, or Devil of the Crossroads. He makes a contract with Niccolo Paganini, giving him one million songs of genius in exchange for his life.
- Benevolent Genie: He protects Niccolo from breaking his contract, once even grabbing his bow before it could touch the strings to prevent him from playing for someone else. Except where he thinks the "calamity" that would ensue would be good for Niccolo...
- Cape Swish: Fairly constantly.
- Deal with the Devil: Provides this to Niccolo.
- Demon Lords And Arch Devils: Amduscias is a duke of hell.
- Demonic Possession: He seems to do this to the Archbishop in act 1, and Elisa in act 2, when they speak with his voice.
- Fan Nickname: Amuchan or Amusama, depending on which side of his personality you're talking about (or which side Akki decides to show in any given performance). Occasionally refers to himself as "Amuchan".
- Gleeful and Grumpy Pairing: Gleeful where Niccolo is grumpy. Sometimes this is charming, sometimes scary...
- Horned Humanoid: Sort of. He's a Unicorn in the Ars Goetia, but here, his horn is in his hat along with the feathers.
- I Have Many Names: He says this when Niccolo asks who he is at their first meeting.
- Invisible to Normals: Only those who have wandered at the crossroads of life can see him.
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy: His hair is down to about his waist.
- Ominous Opera Cape: And he knows how to use it!
- Red and Black and Evil All Over: His clothes are black with red elements. He may or may not be evil, but he is a devil.
- Signature Headgear: That hat! Amduscias' hat features in most of the merchandise, even before they added the unicorn horn.
- You Can See Me?: To Asha, when she acknowledges him in the scene where Niccolo agrees to teach her. Wordlessly, when Berlioz acknowledges him, Amduscias gives him a look.
Niccolo Paganini
Hiroki Aiba (2022 and 2024); Kenta Mizue (2022); Kento Kinouchi (2024)
- Cape Swish: Once he becomes rich and famous, he gets in on this, too.
- Cast from Lifespan: He has one million songs, and when he uses them up, he will die.
- Deal with the Devil: With Amduscias.
- Dying Reconciliation: With Berlioz, and possibly with Amduscias, as they sing a reprise of the title song together in his last concert.
- Expository Hairstyle Change: When they make their contract, Amduscias unties Niccolo's ponytail, setting his hair free along with his music. He wears it out from then on.
- Fair-Weather Mentor: To Asha. He'll teach her when she follows him places, if he feels like it and isn't busy. She gets so excited when he finally tells her "next time."
- Fan Nickname: Hiroki Aiba (Bacchi)'s Paganini is "Baccini", Kento Kinouchi's Paganini is "Kentini". In an interview, Akki (Amduscias) compared the differences in their performances to white wine (Kinouchi) and red wine (Aiba), and that also took off with fans.
- The Gift: His teacher Signor Costa sings the song "Gifted" about him, and tells the audience, but not Niccolo's mother, that Niccolo is gifted enough to realize, even at that age, that he isn't a genius.
- Gleeful and Grumpy Pairing: Niccolo is grumpy where Amuchan is gleeful, seen especially in the bar scene.
- Historical Domain Character: Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) was a violinist and composer whose skill, unlike anything previously heard, was actually believed by some to come from a Deal with the Devil.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: In "Ancora", he says he thought he wouldn't feel this way, but he's starting to have regrets about the contract.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: To Asha and Berlioz, he's quite rude at first, but eventually kind.
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Loose, free-flowing curls that reflect the spirit of his music.
- No Mere Windmill: Others around him might dismiss it as fairy-tale nonsense, but it's true, he did make a Deal with the Devil.
- Ominous Opera Cape: Also knows how to use it. He's learned well from Amuchan.
- Say My Name: How many times does the name "Paganini" appear in these lyrics?
- Your Days Are Numbered: By how many songs he has left.
Asha
Seira Hayakawa (2022); Ririka Kato and Hitomi Arisa (2024)
- Fan Nickname: Ririka Kato's Asha is Riri-sha, Hitomi Arisa's Asha is Ari-sha.
- Genki Girl: She's always cheerful, even when discussing Niccolo after he's died.
Elisa Bonaparte
Saho Aono (2022); Natsumi Motoe (2024)
The younger sister of Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte, she becomes Paganini's patron and lover.
- First-Name Basis: She is delighted that Niccolo is this familiar with her, when everyone else calls her "Highness"
- Historical Domain Character: She really was Napoleon's sister, and really did have an affair with Niccolo Paganini. She died 20 years before him in real life, however.
- Say My Name: When Niccolo casually says "Let's go, Elisa" on their way out, she stops him and asks him to say her name over and over again.
- Successful Sibling Syndrome: Everyone around her just wants to use her to get favors from her brother.
Costa
Hiroshi Hatanaka (2022); Kenji Sakamoto (2024)
Niccolo's violin teacher when he was young. He recognized that Niccolo was gifted, but not a genius.
- Acting for Two: The same actor plays Costa in act 1 and Berlioz in act 2.
- A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: When he hears Niccolo play the violin after his contract, he knows he didn't teach him those impossible techniques. He ends up being the one to denounce Niccolo for his Deal with the Devil.
Hector Berlioz
Hiroshi Hatanaka (2022); Kenji Sakamoto (2024)
- Acting for Two: The same actor plays Costa in act 1 and Berlioz in act 2.
- Historical Domain Character: Hector Berlioz was another composer of the era, and Paganini did support him and give him large sums of money.
Armando
Kōichi Yamadera (2022 and 2024); Katsumi Toi (2022); Hiroshi Hatanaka (2024)
- Dramatic Drop: When he touches Niccolo and realizes that he's dead, Armando drops the metal tray he'd been holding, and if you weren't already crying, the sound of it hitting the floor will do it for you.
- Fan Nickname: Yamamando and Hatamando, for his two actors.
Teresa Paganini
Tatsuki Kohju (2022); Sumire Haruno (2024)
Niccolo's mother. She saved Niccolo with her singing when he was often sick as a baby, and the doctors had given up on him.
- So Proud of You: Niccolo is always asking for her approval, and she always gives it, though it's not clear how much she knows.
