- Everyone Loves Blondes: Both of his onscreen girlfriends, Hilary and Mary-Lou McLaren, are blondes.
Karen Watson
Hilary's friend, another unwed mother.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Her main motive for killing Hilary.
- Hidden Depths: Despite describing him as a burden and nuisance before he was born, Karen gets extremely attached to her baby son after she gives birth to him, crying when he's separated from her. Even decades later, she hasn't given up on tracking her son down and maintains a disinterested facade in order to deal with the pain.
- Jerkass: Often talks down to Hilary for her Wide-Eyed Idealist mentality and goody-two-shoes behaviour, though she eventually begins softening.
- Not So Above It All: Cracks a smile at Hilary's cover of "Baby I Need Your Lovin'".
- Tragic Villain: She killed Hilary in a moment of insanity, driven by her grief at losing her newborn son and jealousy that Hilary was able to keep her daughter, cumulating in believing that Hilary was taking Karen's baby.
- Troubled Teen: Before coming to St. Mary's, she was expelled from high school for beating another girl with a rock. According to her, "that harlot had it coming." She ended up killing Hilary the same way.
