    General
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Mephitidia is based off of France, a country known for its romance, perfumes, and fashion trends. However, the fact that Mephitidia is infamous for being a smelly country comes from the stereotype that French people are bad-smelling because they loathe bathing, though like that it's also just a stereotype (as Great Skunks only smell when they spray, which they only do in self defense).
  • The Fashionista: Their country is believed to be the originator of the profession, with fashion being one of the country's biggest industries. Fashion shows are more akin to major sporting events. Rarity got invited by their ruler, Queen Fleur to design her royal dress for one of the biggest ones, and broke the world record with her resulting Squee.
  • Smelly Skunk: The country of the Great Skunks. Though like real skunks, they only spray in self defense. They much prefer using their musk to make perfumes and chemistry.

    Queen Fleur

Character: Heroic

Alignment: Neutral Good

Type: Royalty/Great Skunk/Swordscreature

Faction: Mephitidia

"Let the world know the sweet fragrance of our land!"

Queen Fleur (her entry here) is the benevolent ruling monarch of Mephitidia.
  • Barrier Maiden: Because of her diplomatic ties with the Changeling Spring Court — specifically Queen Bombyx Avalon, the ruler of the local Mephitidian Spring Changeling Hive — her very presence protected Mephitidia itself from the malicious influence of the Changeling Summer Court, according to the Throne Accords.
  • Break the Haughty: In her youth, she was a Royal Brat whose spoiled behavior troubled their parents, as she was essentially Mephitidia's Crown-Princess and would run Mephitidia into the ground if she became Queen. To make her learn responsibility, she was cut off from her royal inheritance and forced to spend a year working as a palace servant in order to afford the luxuries she once took for granted. While one of the most miserable experiences of her life, she gained much-needed humility and befriended a fellow servant, Scented Candle, who became one of her most trusted allies. By the time she actually became Queen, much of her spoiled nature was completely gone and she ruled her country quite well.
  • Family Theme Naming: She and her parents are named after things relating to fashion, due to Mephitidia's fashion-inclined culture. Whereas her mother and father are named Queen Parfum (Perfume) and King Cologne, respectively, her name is Fleur, which is a French word for "flower".
  • Generation Xerox: Much like herself in her youth, her daughter, Princess Lis, also became a Royal Brat who took for granted the luxuries her status as Crown-Princess gave her. She has attempted to defy this by sending Lis to the School of Friendship in Equestria, hoping that she would learn much-needed humility there.
  • Heinz Hybrid: Due to a long history of interbreeding between nobles from four Great Skunk subspecies, she and the rest of Mephitidia's royal family are hybrids with traits from all four — the Striped Skunks, the Hooded Skunks, the Spotted Skunks and the Hog-nose Skunks. This also gives her the combined racial abilities of all four species. Her hybrid heritage makes her taller than normal Great Skunks, as noted by her entry.
  • Hybrid Power: As a hybrid with traits from all four Great Skunk subspecies, she got the thicker fur of the Hooded Skunks (which makes her resistant to cold), the larger size of the Striped Skunks, the digging ability of Hog-nose Skunks, and the climbing ability and agility of Spotted Skunks. This also means that she has the Spotted Skunks' extremely foul-smelling odor and musk, the worst of the four subspecies, and can spray it via handstands.
  • Interspecies Friendship: During her year as a palace servant, she befriended a young Unicorn servant named Scented Candle. They became close friends, and Scented Candle's presence helped turn her into the kind, benevolent royal Great Skunk she is now. When she became Queen, she promoted Scented Candle to Chief of Staff because the latter is not afraid to talk back to her or call her out on her mistakes.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name, Fleur, means "flower" in French, which fits Mephitidia's romance and fashion-inclined societies. It also fits the Family Theme Naming she has with her parents, who are named Queen Parfum and King Cologne, as perfumes and colognes often have flower-scented smells.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In her youth, she was such a Royal Brat that her parents cut her off from her royal inheritance and forced her to work as a servant in her own home so she could learn responsibility. While it was one of the most miserable years of her life, she did succeed in becoming humbler and more appreciative of her royal status, so much that when she eventually inherited her parents' throne, she became The High Queen.

    Lis
Queen Fleur's daughter.

    Scented Candle
Queen Fleur's best friend and the chief of staff.

    Queen Rosè
The founder of Mephitidia, and its first Queen.

    Professor Soulfre, the Grand Chemist

Character: Heroic

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Type: Chemist/Scientist/Great Skunk

Faction: Unaffiliated

"The greatness of my genius is measured only by how many I helped, and how much stink I can make for those who cause harm!"

Professor Soulfre (his entry here) is a Great Skunk chemist who is one of Mephitidia's heroes and presently the smartest Great Skunk alive.
  • Arch-Enemy: With King Metriini, due to being one of the few mortals intelligent and skilled in chemistry enough to match him. The two mutually hate each other.
  • Covered in Scars: He's one of the few mortals to survive exposure to Metriini's Despoiler Toxin, but the experience left his body covered in chemical scars.
  • Determinator: He managed to create a cure for Metriini's infamous Despoiler Toxin while being effected by it in time to save himself and everyone else being targeted, leaving him with a permanently damaged respiratory system
  • Handicapped Badass: His respiratory system was permanently damaged by Metriini's Despoiler Toxin, forcing him to wear a specialized device just to stay alive. Doesn't stop him from being Metriini's Arch-Enemy, and in fact was the event that started it.
  • It's Personal: With King Metriini. It's hard to blame the guy given he's now horribly scared and forced to wear a device just to breathe because of the Summer Changeling King.

    Acier, the Swordsmane of Steel

Character: Heroic

Alignment: Lawful Good

Type: Great Skunk, Swordsmane, Ferro Mage, Empowered Creature

Faction: Mephitidia, the Three Musketeers

"My wits and blade are as sharp as steel!"

Acier (his entry here) is a Great Skunk hero and a member of the Three Musketeers.

    Piéger
A vicious Great Skunk Serial Killer who believed that nature is cruel, dangerous, and predatory, and sought to 'teach' everyone this by murdering them in extremely gruesome ways. He ran afoul of a young Montem Morte when he kidnapped the latter's younger twin sister, Medela Eripio, and a few of Medela's friends.

    Edelweiss, the Healing Flower

Character: Heroic

Alignment: Neutral Good

Type: Spotted Skunk/Cleric/Nature Lover/Healer/Guide

Faction: Mephitidia, Mephitidian Mountains

"Those who are lost in the mountains, let me be your guide. I will protect you, heal you, and help you find your way home."

Edelweiss (her entry here) is a young Spotted Skunk cleric who follows the goddess Medela Eripio in rescuing those lost/trapped in the mountains.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: She has white fur and golden-yellow spots, which match the color of the edelweiss flower that she was named after.
  • Barrier Warrior: As Medela's Cleric, she can use barriers.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She is a sweet and gentle Spotted Skunk who desires to help others, and as a Cleric, she is devoted to promoting enviromental awareness/safety, as well as healing the sick and injured. However, she despises those who corrupt/exploit nature and abuse animals, and is a Combat Medic who knows how to fight on top of possessing various powers granted to her by her patron goddess, Medela Eripio. And as a Spotted Skunk, her scent spray is the strongest and more foul-smelling compared to members of other Great Skunk tribes — her entry notes she's willing to spray people if they act unruly and/or uncooperative.
  • Caring Gardener: She enjoys gardening, and according to her, her first career choice was to be a gardener, but changed her mind after reading about how nature was frequently desecrated and exploited. She now sees gardening as a hobby.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: This is one of her flaws. Like Medela Eripio, her patron goddess, she can't stand to ignore those in need and will try her best to help everyone, even at the cost of herself.
  • Close to Home:
    • She despises those who abuse animals, and will not hesitate to punish them. This stems from her upbringing as the daughter of veterinarians and being the owner of a pet cat (and loving cats in general).
    • She hates those who corrupt and/or exploit nature, having read about the many ways nature is desecrated and/or outright destroyed. This is one of many reasons why she opposes Avarita and his mortal worshipers, as Avarita is the Diamond Dog god of Pollution, Overconsumption, and Corruption — the very things that are anathema to nature.
    • Despite being a Nature Lover herself, she strongly disagrees with eco-terrorists because of their fanaticism and hardline views of nature, which in her eyes is just as bad. One big reason why she opposed Rose, one of her friends, is because she became an eco-terrorist who harmed innocent people to "protect" nature.
  • Combat Medic: Namedropped by Cultura. She possesses combat skills, though they pale in comparison to her expertise in healing. She generally prefers to heal others unless the situation requires her to fight.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: She deeply treasures her friends and family, which can make discovering their criminal ties much more devastating for her. In one case, she was heartbroken when she discovered her friend, Rose, had become an Eco-Terrorist, but nonetheless confronted and subdued her before the latter could hurt more people. When Rose tried guilt-tripping her into adopting more extreme views towards nature, she retorts that a good friend wouldn't hurt innocent people for the crime of "hurting" nature.
  • Floral Theme Naming: She's named after the edelweiss flower, which not only symbolizes the outdoors (specifically, alpinism), but also purity and/or innocence. She's a divine Cleric and mountain rescuer/guide who wanted the job because she wanted to preserve the mountains' local wildlife and protect people from the dangers of mountain-climbing.
  • Flower Motifs: She's both associated with and named after the the edelweiss flower, which symbolizes the outdoors as well as purity and innocence. She's a sweet and gentle Spotted Skunk who loves cats, is a Caring Gardener, and a divine Cleric who works as both an environmental activist, healer, and mountain guide. Her appearance also has the same colors as her namesake flower, white and golden-yellow.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: Averted. Despite being a daughter of veterinarians and being exposed to her work, she instead chose to become a divine Cleric specializing in mountain rescue (though according to her, gardening was her first choice). Her parents were initially concerned for her safety due to the dangers posed by mountain rescue, but understood her desires and compassion and let her pursue the job of her dreams.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Averted. Due to working in the mountains, she wears goggles to protect her eyes from accidents and environmental hazards.
  • Goldand White Are Divine: She has white fur and golden yellow spots, making her resemble her namesake flower. She's also a Cleric of Medela Eripio and thus has her goddess's powers to a degree, which suits her work in mountain rescue and nature preservation.
  • Green Thumb: As Medela's Cleric, she can use plant magic.
  • Healing Factor: As Medela's Cleric, she has a healing factor that protects her from mortal injuries... to an extent. Because she's not a goddess of Survival like Medela is, her healing factor is not as powerful or fast-reacting, meaning she can still die from her injuries if they're serious enough.
  • Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: Averted. Due to working in the mountains, she wears a helmet to protect her head. This is actually in line to what her goddess, Medela Eripio, wears, since the latter embodies Mountain Rescue, Safety, and Survival.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Many eco-terrorists see her as naive for protecting people they feel are "hurting" nature, and either harrassed her for it or tried making her see their way. She admits to feeling discouraged at times because of it, though fortunately she has supporters who love her and are willing to protect her.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She owns a cat named Spots, who has loyally stayed by her side since she was very young and served as her source of comfort. Her becoming a Cleric of Medela Eripio extended Spots' lifespan through her own exposure to Medela's Primordial Quintessence. Her entry also notes she's very fond of cats in general and will feed any stray she comes across. All this pegs her as a kindhearted individual.
  • The Magnificent: Known as "the Healing Flower".
  • Martial Pacifist: While she's a healer first and foremost, she was also trained in combat so she could defend herself. She generally doesn't like to fight unless it's to protect the patients under her care.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name translates to "noble white" in German, referring to her white fur and heroic character. It also counts as Floral Theme Naming as her name comes from a flower.
  • Nature Lover: She's a Caring Gardener, loves cats, and is a divine Cleric devoted to protecting mountainous environments and helping guide lost trekkers to safety. This in part got her targeted by eco-terrorists, thinking her support of nature would make her side with their pro-nature fanaticism, but she finds them detestable despite understanding their motives.
  • The Navigator: As Medela's Cleric, she has her goddess's supernatural navigation, protecting her from getting lost in the mountains.
  • Nice Guy: She's a sweet and gentle Spotted Skunk who works as a healer, environmental activist, and a mountain guide, treating the sick and injured while guiding those who got lost in the mountains to safe places. However, it's not a good idea to anger her, as she's a Spotted Skunk (whose members possess the most foul-smelling scent sprays compared to other Great Skunk tribes) and a divine Cleric who is knowledgeable in both magic and combat, even though she'd rather heal others.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: She sees eco-terrorists as being little different from those who harm nature out of selfishness and greed, despite being a Nature Lover herself and understanding why they act the way they do. This is why she refused to fall for Rose's guilt-tripping and subdued her despite Rose being a close friend, even though it personally pained her to do so.
  • Personality Powers: She loves gardening and cats, and she works as a healer and mountain guide, raising awareness/safety about mountainous environments and guiding those who got lost to safe places. As a divine Cleric of Medela Eripio, she has the same powers as her patron goddess to a degree, like plant magic, a survival-based precognitive intuition, item creation (albeit items specifically related to mountain rescue/survival like tents and shelters), and barrier magic. She also possesses the Great Skunks' racial magic in potion-making and is good at making healing potions.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: As a Spotted Skunk, she's smaller than members of other Great Skunk tribes, but her scent sprays are the strongest and most foul-smelling as a trade-off. She's also a divine Cleric of Medela Eripio, the goddess of Safety, Flora, Survival, and Mountain Rescue, which provides her powers based on Medela's domains to a degree.
  • Seers: As Medela's Cleric, she possesses a precognitive intuition that reveals the chances of surviving something, whether it be illness or injury.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When she confronted and defeated her ex-friend Rose to keep her from hurting more people, Rose took offense and tried guilt-tripping her into agreeing with her extremist views on nature, thinking her job as a mountain guide would make her easily persuadable. Her response?
Edelweiss: A good friend would have never done what you did, Rose.
  • Smelly Skunk: She's a Spotted Skunk, which, out of the Great Skunk tribes, possesses the strongest and foulest odors. Due to her job as a mountain rescuer and guide, she exploits her scent spray by spraying in places where the winds are strongest, allowing her foul odor to spread further. Her entry notes she's willing to spray people if they act unruly and/or uncooperative with her.
  • Upbringing Makes the Hero: Her good upbringing, early exposure to her parents' work as veterinarians, and the love and support she received from them all helped turn her into the benevolent Cleric she is today.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She was heartbroken when she discovered a friend of hers, Rose, had become an Eco-Terrorist and was hurting people to "protect" nature. When Rose tried guilt-tripping her into siding with her, however, she retorts back that a good friend would never join a terrorist group like what Rose did.

    Bouquet
Bouquet was an extremely talented Great Skunk painter who became one of Luminiferous' mortal lovers and the mother of twins, Peinture and his sister Ciseau.
  • Good Parents: She would become the loving mother of Peinture and Ciseau through Luminiferous, encouraging their artistic passions even if they're different from painting.
  • Interspecies Romance: She would fall in love and marry Luminiferous after the latter revealed his true identity as her mysterious benefactor, regardless of his appearance and history. It's through him that she would become the mother of twins, Peinture and Ciseau.
  • In the Blood: Her artistic passion and talents would be shared by her twin children, Peinture and Ciseau; Peinture would take after her by becoming a painter, while Ciseau went into sculpting.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name refers to a flower bouquet, which was often the subject of still-life paintings.
  • Missing Mom: Justified; it's implied that she was eventually outlived by her divine husband and Ascendant children.
  • The Power of Love: Her love for her future husband, Luminiferous, is what gave her the confidence to become a famous artist in the first place.
  • Posthumous Character: She's implied to have since died, but her influence lives on through her twin children, Peinture and Ciseau, who take after her in different ways.
  • Shrinking Violet: Before meeting Luminiferous, she was an extremely shy Great Skunk who loved painting and was good at it, but felt too timid to share her work with others. Luminiferous slowly encouraged her until she became confident enough to reveal herself as a great artist.
