Caearnar

Caearnar is a Deer realm that consists of former Alvslog Deer that have since broken away from their forest homes to start a new life elsewhere. It is watched over by the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, whose members seek to improve where the Elternteil Deer Pantheon had failed.

    General
  • Benevolent Mage Ruler: Implied. The Kings and Queens who rule over all of Caearnar are capable of magic by virtue of being the chosen champions of Phoenix King Naur and Everqueen Naneth, respectively. Many of them are also benevolent, as Naur and Naneth worked to ensure that any prospective ruler would never become as bad as the Kings and Queens of the Alvslog Deer Herds, who are often haughty, xenophobic, and puristic.
  • Elective Monarchy:
    • The half of Caearnar watched over by Naur has this system in place. Any Deer stag can choose to become King, but in order to do so, they must prove their worthiness by throwing themselves into Naur's holy flames. Anyone who is virtuous and willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good will emerge completely unharmed, their burns healed and imbued with Naur's divine power. Anyone who desires the throne for unscrupulous or wicked ends will simply be burned to ash.
    • The half of Caearnar watched over by Naur's sister Naneth, however, inverts this by being a hereditary monarchy. The position of Queen is passed down from mother to daughter, and the coronation of the next Queen involves a complex magic ritual that gives said Queen the psychic memories of her predecessors, filling her with guidance and ancient knowledge.
  • Expy: Of Ulthuan. Like its inspiration, Caearnar is a Shining City founded and occupied by people with great inclination for magic. Ironically, Caearnar is a splinter faction from the Alvslog Deer Realms, while Ulthuan is the birthplace of the Dark and Wood Elves who eventually split off from their High Elf brethren. To further the connection, Caearnar is based on an island peninsula that was transformed by a great magical calamity much like Ulthuan was, giving it an inlaid sea in the middle.
  • Fantasy Pantheon: Caearnar is watched over by the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, a third sub-pantheon that broke away from the Elternteil Deer Pantheon out of disgust towards their family and mortal subjects' puristic, xenophobic, haughty, and reactionary stance. Its leaders are siblings, Phoenix King Naur and his younger sister, Everqueen Naneth.
  • The Good King: All Caearnarian Deer Kings are this, representing the martial and judicial side of Caearnar itself. In Caearnar, the ideal Deer King is supposed to burn with passion to protect their people and punish their enemies, while providing a light to guide Caearnarian Deerkind to a better future. However, in order to become a King, a royal Deer stag must prove himself worthy by immersing himself in Naur's flames, after which the contestant emerge unharmed and divinely-empowered if he is found to be virtuous. Naur wants all of his Kings to be genuinely benevolent because since fawnhood, he had to deal with centuries of High King Irminsul's blatant hypocrisy and failures as a ruler and parent, which led to Naur becoming very disapproving of excessive pride and hypocrisy in authority figures.
  • The Good Kingdom: Many great kingdoms exist on Caeanar, inhabited by mortal Deer of the Caeanarian Deer herds and are ruled either by an Elective Monarchy of Kings (those who follow Phoenix King Naur) or under a hereditary matriarchy of Queens (those who follow Everqueen Naneth). Prospective Deer Kings are chosen by Naur indirectly via walking through his holy flames, where those who are worthy would emerge unharmed and empowered by them (while those who are not worthy or are even villainous don't emerge at all), while prospective Queens inherit their thrones after being imbued with the memories, wisdom and experience of their predecessors in a complex magical ritual devised by Naneth.
  • Good Needs Evil: Defied. While the Caearnarian Deer Herds acknowledge that they must not fall into complacency or develop the same bad behaviors as their hated Alvslog Deer cousins did, they're not completely accepting of Evil as their Erobreseg Deer cousins. This is due to the influence of Phoenix King Naur, who, while not as puristic as the Elternteil Deer Pantheon, is still uncomfortable with the idea of strengthening his subjects through constant, horrific suffering and has used various kingdoms, realms, and empires as an example of Good not needing Evil to survive. Temnobog has been showing him evidence that this is not the case, as they are exceptions instead of the norm, but it is still an uphill battle for both of them. Nonetheless, Temnobog hopes that Naur will come around eventually.
  • Hidden Elf Village: Defied and averted. While Caearnar is a lush, verdant island paradise (which was the result of uninterrupted magical activity that lasted for tens of thousands of years), its Deer Herds are not isolationist like the Alvslog Deer Herds are. In fact, both Phoenix King Naur and Everqueen Naneth encourage their subjects to live out in the open and share the greatness of their realms with others.
  • The High Queen: All Caearnarian Deer Queens are this, representing the spiritual and nurturing side of Caearnar itself. Each Queen emulates the virtues of their patron goddess, Everqueen Naneth, to maintain the faith their subjects have in the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon, and they temper the flames that fuel the passions of the Caearnarian Deer Kings. Despite ruling over a successful Matriarchy, though, the Queens get along just fine with their male counterparts, the Caearnarian Deer Kings, which echoes the divine co-leadership of Phoenix King Naur and Everqueen Naneth.
  • Kill It with Fire: The fate of any prospective Deer King who fails to live up to the standards of Phoenix King Naur. Anyone who tries to inherit the throne for selfish and/or malicious ends will be reduced to ash in Naur's holy pyre.
  • Matriarchy: Naneth's side of Caearnar is an enlightened version. Her side of Caearnar in question is ruled by a long, hereditary line of Caearnarian Deer Queens whose position is passed down from mother to daughter, and all of their rulers are very benevolent in both morality and temperament. Despite this, they get along with the Caearnarian Deer Kings and even rule alongside them, echoing Naneth's co-leadership with her older brother, Naur.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: Naur's half of Caearnar is ruled by an Elective Monarchy, but Naur wants the Kings to be genuinely virtuous and self-sacrificing so they wouldn't become as bad as the Elternteil Deer Pantheon and their Alvslog Deer followers. To ensure this, Naur created a Secret Test of Character where any prospective King must walk through divine purifying flames to prove his worth. Those who come out unharmed and empowered can inherit the throne; otherwise...
  • Pride: The Caearnarian Deer Herds still suffer from this at times, being former Alvslog Deer who broke away to build a Shining City. However, it's downplayed as the members of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon strive to make sure their mortal Deer subjects don't become arrogant like the Alvslog Deer Herds did. This is due to the influence of Phoenix King Naur, who personally witnessed the dangers of excessive pride in both the Elternteil Deer Pantheon and the Alvslog Deer Herds, and doesn't want his subjects to take after them.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: The original settlers of Caearnar were formerly Alvslog Deer refugees who left their Herds following a catastrophic disaster that collapsed the forest realm they once called home. The Elternteil Deer Pantheon, despite having Seers among them, refused to heed the warnings of incoming disaster until it was too late. This caused their own worshipers to grow resentful towards their divine patrons and side with those who tried to help them, such as Phoenix King Naur and Everqueen Naneth.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Thanks to their gods' influence under Phoenix King Naur and Everqueen Naneth, the Kings and Queens of Caearnar are known and expected to be this, with strict standards imposed to those who may inherit the thrones of their respective kingdoms.
  • The Remnant: Ironically, the great island that would become the homelands of Caeanarian Deer civilizations were originally settled by Alvslog Deer who fled the Alvslog Forest Realm which collapsed in calamity many centuries ago, in the event that finally drove Naur to turn on his family and start his own pantheon. Some of the survivors took to their ships, were blown off-course by storms and eventually found themselves on the shores of the great island, where ages of unfettered wild magical exposure from a great magical vortex at the center of the inland sea turned the crescent-shaped landmasses into a verdant realm with fertile soil and rich resources. They promptly settled there, and their prayers to Naur (who they remain grateful for helping them during the catastrophe even after they grew to resent their former Elternteil patrons for their role in letting it happen) eventually drawn Naur and his newly-created Caeanarian Deer Pantheon to establish themselves there as well. Many more Deer from the other three herds joined them there for one reason or another, and the rest is history.
  • Shining City: Played straight and invoked with the Deer kingdoms of Caearnar, where this is both literal and metaphorical between the shining kingdoms of prosperity and peace and the reigns of the kings and queens there who rule with wisdom and reason, without pride or prejudice. They are not perfect, but are still exemplary.
  • We Have Become Complacent: Defied. Much of the Caearnarian Deer Pantheon's issues with the Alvslog Deer Herds (and, by extension, the Elternteil Deer Pantheon) is that they've become too complacent with their successes to the point of developing a puristic, haughty, xenophobic, and reactionary stance that will eventually doom them. Caearnar was founded to avoid this, exposing mortal Deer to evil and hardship so they could become stronger and wiser in the end.
  • Wild Wilderness: When Caearnar was first found by Alvslog Deer refugees it was this, due to the magical vortex at the center of the great crescent-shaped island's inland sea irradiating the entire area with wild magic, causing a spectacular growth of greenery and wildlife complementing the rich resources the wild magic transmuted into existence. Naur was said to be so impressed when he first saw the lush and bountiful land he declared he would 'never take anything for granted' again, and the Caearnarian Deer mortals and pantheon promptly settled down at Caearnar.

King Aearnarion, the Champion of Light and Flame
The first King of Caearnar and its Deer realms, first introduced in Phoenix Naur's entry.
  • The Ace: Implied. He is revered highly among the Caearnarian Deer Herds, who consider him to be one of the greatest Kings to have ever lived due to his achievements and virtuous character. It's noted that his reign set a precedent for future Deer Kings, who would aspire to be like him. It's even rumored In-Universe that he Ascended to godhood as a result of his good deeds during the various demon incursions that plagued the then-nascent Caearnar.
  • Deity of Human Origin: It's rumored In-Universe that he Ascended to godhood while helping the Caearnarian Deer Herds fight off demons that plagued their island.
  • Expy: He's based on Aenarion the Defender, who was the first Phoenix King of Ulthuan and widely seen by the High Elves as one of their greatest rulers.
  • The Good King: Implied. His people regard him as one of the greatest Caearnarian Deer Kings to have ever lived.
  • The Magnificent: Known as "the Champion of Light and Flame".
  • Posthumous Character: He's implied to have died centuries ago, though rumors In-Universe state that he Ascended to godhood fighting demons instead.

Prince Lúgberichil, the Defender of Caearnar

Prince Ciallmhar, Master of the White Tower
"With Lunar Staff and Singing Sword, I master the arcane and shape fate itself. Destiny awaits, and I will answer the call."

  • Always Identical Twins: He and Lúgberichil are twin brothers.
  • The Archmage: He is considered one of the greatest mortal sorcerers presently alive. Among his notability and achievements include having received tuition from Kúzelník, sparred with Starswirl the Bearded, banishing a whole Demonic invasion back to the Hells they came from by himself, and even holding his own against Queen Chronometria, an incredibly powerful Viceliege and prodigy sorceress from Malrègnar who could manipulate time and devastate whole kingdoms by her lonesome.
  • Cool Sword: His other tool besides his magical staff is the enchanted Singing Sword.
  • Dual Wielding: His main weapons are Lunar Staff and Singing Sword, and he can use both.
  • Expy: Of Teclis.
  • Magic Staff: He possesses one called the Lunar Staff.
  • The Magnificent: Known as the "Master of the White Tower", which echoes Teclis' title as "Warden of the White Tower".
  • Meaningful Name: His name means "wise" in Irish, which is fitting for a powerful Deer sorcerer based on Teclis.
