https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blacklambs.png

Black Lambs is a team of rookie Closers in charge of the Gangnam area. Most of the members are young adults who demonstrate exceptional skills and talents in battle.

    In general

  • New Meat: Everybody in the team, minus J.

    Seha Lee

Voiced by: Lee Kyungtae (Korean), Ryōta Ōsaka (Japanese, new), Nobunaga Shimazaki (Japanese, old)

"I am Seha. I am a Closer, and that's more than enough."

Trainee/Novice Agent
Official Agent
Special Agent
Task Force (Triaina Rebellion)

Resident game-addicted slacker who was chosen to join the Black Lambs due to his Phase Force potential. Gameplay-wise, Seha is a Striker, an offensive class who can quickly close in on enemies and use variety of physical melee and short-range Psi attacks to decimate enemy formation.

  • Armor-Piercing Attack: Certain portions in a lot of his skills inflict Explosion, which ignore enemy's defense and deal True Damage.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: It's clear that he could be made good Closer agent if he could lay down his handheld game console for just a moment.
  • Close-Range Combatant
  • Cool Sword: In battle, Seha wields a gun blade that functions as both a sword and gun.
  • Dub Name Change: His name in the JP server is Haruto Kaguragi.
  • Dye Hard: In Season 2 Episode 11, Seha tells Trainer that he dyes his hair and wears contacts. Trainer more or less figures out what his original hair and eye color are.
  • Famous Ancestor: His mom, the 'Alpha Queen' who helped end the First Dimensional War.
  • Has a Type: Seha's subconscious image of what a beautiful woman looks like is actually a character from a video game he used to play.
  • Hidden Depths: Seha knows how to cook, and offers to teach Levia how to make fried rice.
  • Jack of All Trades: Usually regarded as one of more versatile characters by the players, owning to his damage potential (especially air combos) and his mobility.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: His Gunblade, which channels Seha's Phase Force into attacks.
  • Shared Family Quirks: It's frequently mentioned that Seha acts like his mother in season 2. Veronica even mistakes him for his mother due to having a similar "aura".
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Seha is a very balanced character but with a catch; using him to fullest potential burns through his mana reserve really fast. His ranged attack options are also pretty limited.
    • A closer look into his skills will reveals that he only have few moves that have in-built invincibility frames compared to the rest of the cast, which can be problematic in PvP.

    Sylvi Li (Seulbi Lee)

Voiced by: Woo Jeongshin (Korean), Hiromi Igarashi (Japanese, new), Aoi Yūki (Japanese, old)

"I need to keep my promise and be the leader my team needs. Because without them, I can't do anything."

The no-nonsense team leader of the Black Lambs whose parents were killed in the First Dimensional War. Her potential manifested while she was in an orphanage, a trait which she honed relentlessly. She demands perfection from those around her. As a Caster, Sylvi uses her impressive psychokinetic powers to physically moves objects around her, re-positioning enemies and throwing them to deal damage.

  • Dub Name Change: The KR server refers to her as Seulbi Lee, however she is known as Sylvi Li on the NA server and Mikoto Amamiya on the JP server.
  • Fragile Speedster: She has good base movement speed, her defense stats not so much.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Quite stern when it comes to the job, but does have a warmer side. You can't tell she loves watching TV dramas just by looking.
  • Mind over Matter: Her main ability. She usually uses knives, but she can also use, debris, buses, or even satelites.
  • Moral Guardian: Sylvi objects to Seha showing Mistletein gameplay footage of a mature rated game.
  • Shock and Awe: A few of her skills involve using electricity and magnetism
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Sylvi doesn't have much in the way of mobility skills. Some of her important skills also requires a bit of careful set-up to be effective.

    Yuri Seo

Voiced by: Park Seonyoung (Korean), Kaede Hondo (Japanese, new), Nao Tōyama (Japanese, old)

"...I don't mean to complain. I like being a Closer now."

A happy-go-lucky former professional athlete at the young age of 18. Her Phase Force potential manifested later than most of the Closers, leading her to abandon her dream and instead chase her desire to support her family by the means of public service. As a Ranger-class character, Yuri employs her sword and handgun in high-speed combat, zipping in and out of enemies' reach and dispose of them with damage boost her passive provides.

  • Balance Buff: Receives one in 2015 that greatly improves the aerial game of her kit.
  • Dash Attack: Comes in two variety; Sonic Slash that deals damage to anyone in-between and can return Yuri to starting point with second input, and Shift which pulls her forward and ends with a sword slash in front of her.
  • Dub Name Change: Is referred to as Yuri Asuma on the JP server.
  • Glass Cannon: Her Battle Sense passive skill calculates a sizable portion of her Physical/Magical damage and then adds them to the other damage type, buffing her attacks to insane level. In turn, her defensive stats are much weaker than other characters.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Big breasts, long black hair, a tendency to show her cleavage, a short skirt, and plenty of fanservicey skins. Yuri is a big source of eyecandy in Closers.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: Her life pre-Closers was national Kendo athlete.
  • Sword and Gun: Her weapons.

    J

Voiced by: Kim Hwanjin (Korean), Hidenori Takahashi (Japanese, new), Tomokazu Sugita (Japanese, old)

"If I don't fight, someone else will have to do it."
A veteran of the First Dimensional War who suffered mental scars because of it. Originally a retired combatant, he was called back into active duty by UNION to join the Black Lambs team. His real name, age, and past are all a mystery. In-game, J is a Fighter-class character who takes the fight to the enemy with up-close physical attacks and combos.
  • Blood from the Mouth: One of his animation that plays when you finish a sector sees him coughing up blood and then comically pretend nothing happened.
  • Close-Range Combatant: And then some.
  • Dub Name Change: A downplayed one, but one of the pages on the NA website refer to him as Jay.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs
  • Mr. Exposition: Unlike the other Black Lambs, J actually knows a fair amount of what's going on and often explains it to Kim or Song, rather than vice-versa.
  • Old Soldier: A young example.
  • Someone Has to Do It: His rationale for returning to fight for UNION is to protect the rest of Black Lambs rookies.
  • Weak, but Skilled: This is how he keeps up with everybody. His Phase Force is pretty dismal compared to how he used to be, so he instead focuses it into bursts as he fights, rather than just constantly having it all around him like everybody else. Many of his attacks are multi-hitting, individually weak hits, too.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: One thing you'll notice the first time you play as him: no MP. Almost all of J's skills use his health as a resource which he can recover only slowly by dealing damage with regular attacks.

    Mistletein

Voiced by: Ahn Hyeonseo (Korean), Yūki Takada (Japanese, new), Minami Tsuda (Japanese, old)

"The happiest moment of my life was when I joined the Black Lambs!"

Ever cheerful 12-year-old (13 in Western releases) boy from the European branch of UNION. Trained from a young age, he is reassigned to join the Black Lambs in Korea. As a Lancer, Mistletein uses his magic lance to spearhead high-knockback combat and deploy support buff for his allies.

Wolf Dogs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wolfdogs_4.png

Wolf Dogs is the disposal team of the Vultures and consists of criminals, some of which are given a special type of choker that causes great pain to the wearer should they disobey their superiors' orders. If necessary, that choker is also there to kill them.

    In general
  • Restraining Bolt: The chokers around their necks are there to keep them compliant by choking them if necessary to get them to follow orders. They're also there to kill them if those in charge see it necessary or simply want to do so.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Those chokers can be used to kill them if the dangerous missions they're sent on don't do it. It is heavily implied that once things settle down, they'll be killed off for knowing too much.

    Levia

Voiced by: Lee Bohee (KR), Ari Ozawa (JP, new), Ai Kayano (JP, old)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/levia_9.jpg
The Dimensional Witch

A dimensional monster who wiped out several Closers before being captured by Vulture Co. "She" dislikes fighting and can somehow use Phase Power that is similar to a human. Due to a certain incident, she is appointed as a new member of the Wolfdog team, and is thus forced to fight. In-game, Levia is classified as a Witch who summons dimensional monsters and channels Phase Force to aid her in close to mid-range combat.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: When Camilla drains Trainer's phase powers and his life, and learns that one way to heal Trainer is to kill Camilla, Levia deliberately disobeys orders and absolutely snaps.
  • Extreme Doormat: Starts out utterly submissive to the Vulture agents' abusive treatment.
  • Shrinking Violet: She was quite awkward when trying to ask Seha if she could play his game.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: For a Psi-reliant character, her MP pool is abysmal. She has to constantly use her Summon Familiar skill to quickly racks up Phase Force and use her Empower skill to keep her MP topped up.

    Nata

Voiced by: Choi Seung-hun (KR), Kōtarō Nishiyama (JP, new), Nobuhiko Okamoto (JP, old)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nata.jpg
The Vengeful Hunter

An orphan from the dimensional war who was experimented on by UNION into a ruthless fighter, but was deemed untamable. He was later picked up by Vulture, and was forced to become a member of the Wolf Dogs. In-game, Nata is classified as a Hunter who uses his chained kukris for sweeps and strikes and to draw in enemies for big combos.

  • Children Forced to Kill: Played straight in his backstory. Like many other children, Nata was orphaned after the dimensional war and was taken by UNION where he was experimented on and forced to kill his fellow captives.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Both his hair and eyes are the same neon blue color.
  • The Determinator: No matter how much hell he has been through, Nata swears that he'll destroy those who've wronged him, namely UNION, Vulture and Trainer, by extension.
  • Dub Name Change: His name is Slash in the JP server.

    Harpy

Voiced by: Jeon Suk-gyeong (KR), Yuuki Kuwahara (JP, new), Yu Shimamura (JP, old)

A former thief who had gotten too close to Vulture's secrets by stealing their documents. She was later captured and assigned to work under Supervisor Shia as part of the Wolf Dogs. In-game, she is classified as a Rogue who uses high-flying kicks and double jumps, taking advantage of the damage bonus from air strikes in order to destroy enemies.

  • Brainwashed: Seems to be the case after she is captured by Vulture Co. in Official Crew movie.
  • Classy Cat-Burglar: Before being captured and brainwashed by Shia, Harpy was a phantom thief by the name of Prom Queen.
  • Death Dealer: Downplayed. Her skill Draw has her throwing a card at enemies, dealing damage and generates HP/MP regeneration buff depending on whether Harpy is grounded or airborne. It also has a small chance to draw a Joker which also decrease target's defenses and regenerate Phase Force.
  • Death from Above: How you play her. Her basic attack combo sends her airborne. Her passive skills allow her to perform double jump that can extend combos and calculate some of her Air Strike damage bonus into Critical and Back Attack damage.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Her kit requires the player to be familar with chaining air combos, and doesn't offer much in terms of pure ranged or Area-of-effect attacks (outside of the ones that goes through multiple enemies) As a result, she is overshadowed by more flexible characters in PvP. However expert players can use her mobility to dance around the opponents and deliver big damage through Air Strike, Back Attack and her passive buffs.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Ample breasts? Check. Prominent cleavage? Check. Long blonde hair? Check. Curvy figure? Check.

Wildhuter

    Wolfgang

Voiced by: Kengo Kawanishi (JP)

A veteran Closer, in possession of the Black Book, a mysterious tome that's able to absorb the "evil" of the dimensional monsters.

  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He's a veteran Closer and unlike the other veterans shown, he doesn't appear to have lost any Phase Force at all... But despite this, he's mostly just wanting to push for a vacation. He's so lazy that he's classified as a Trainee because he couldn't be bothered to renew his Closer classification.
  • Team Dad: In a relatively passive way, as he's very much concerned as to how "the kids" of the Wildhuters are, willingly putting himself into dangerous situations so they don't have to.

Vulture Co.

    In general
  • Evil, Inc.: Is heavily implied to be responsible for the current crisis due to wanting to regain its profit margin.
  • Expy: Of South Korean Chaebol corporations, many of which are notorious in Korea for their corruption.
  • Predatory Business: It's implied that they have their fingers in a lot of pies, are in the pockets of a lot of politicians, and generally are able to throw their weight around, which allows them to get away with many unethical and outright illegal activities.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: About midway through the storyline, it becomes apparent that the company's less ethical and outright illegal actions are being backed by some seriously highly placed people in the Korean Government. Made worse when, their actions in game are being backed by major governments in order to gain control of Closers and to foster conflict.

    Shia Hong

The one who directs the Wolf Dogs. Officially a supervisor, but it is implied that she is highly placed in the company even before events make her the chairman of the company.

  • Asshole Victim: Later on in the Wolf Dogs story, Shia is crushed by Hecatoncheir's palm. No sympathy was had for her, and for good reason.
  • Blackmail: Is not above blackmailing people in order to get her way, threatening their families, their livelihoods, and so on as needed. This tends to be her M.O. whenever it comes to dealing with UNION personnel and civilians who are trying to obstruct her.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: She apparently get's promoted to the position of Chairman of Vulture Co, with her official story being that she was able to sell the fact that she could make the Board of Directors money.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Part of the real reason for her actions stems from her being a victim of a chemical weapon attack that shortened her life which was not made public as her parents were paid off.
  • Die Laughing: She spends her last moments breaking into laughter before Hecatoncheir crushes her.
  • For the Evulz: Probably the reason she does half of the things she does, to include deliberately rigging machines with explosives to see a district of New Seoul burn.
  • Kick the Dog: Enjoys threatening people and psychologically torturing them. Also finds it fun to activate the collars on the Wolf Dog members in order to keep them in line.
  • Sadist: She enjoys the suffering of others a little too much.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Feeling satisfied with her work, Shia allows herself to be crushed by Hecatoncheir.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Actually plots to kill a high school student due to it being the easiest and most efficient way to defeat one of the major villains. She doesn't, but that's more because she wouldn't be able to cover it up due to the fact that there are many who would immediately report it before she could spin the matter.

    Kim Gitae

A rank-A Closer who serves directly under Director Lane. Secretly however, he's plotting with UNION's Chief of Staff and Vulture Co. to exploit the latest dimensional invasion for profit.

  • De-power: He's suffering from Phase Force Deprivation syndrome, which will eventually take away his powers. He finally loses them in the middle of trying to fight Hecatoncheires, which makes him turn to the Dragon Legion to get them back.
  • Glory Hound: All that matters to him is maintaining his rank and all the benefits that come with it. His Phase Force Deprivation syndrome only makes him even more desperate.
  • Informed Attribute: The player is repeatedly informed that they have no chance against him since he has the power and experience of a rank-A Closer. In the Black Lamb's story, he loses his Phase Force before the player character gets a chance to fight him. Later though, he joins with Astaroth to get his Phase Force back. However, the player character still beats him.
  • Never My Fault: When he loses his Phase Force, he tries to shift the blame to Celine and Director Lane in order to get out of trouble. However, Celine puts a lid on it by revealing that she kept incriminating emails revealing that he was responsible for the current crisis.
  • Obviously Evil: He doesn't bother to hide that he has a stake in the current crisis because the heroes don't have concrete evidence of his involvement nor do they have the means of imprisoning someone as powerful as him until he loses his powers.

    "Trainer"

The one who is technically the squad leader and trainer for the Wolf Dogs. Cold and aloof in his interactions with them.

  • Dirty Business: Sees what he's done and the Wolf Dogs' mission as this.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Is more than willing to call Shia out for many of her decisions, though is often reluctant to outright defy her.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Only commits certain acts when needed and will often use the least evil alternatives when available.
  • Sudden Principled Stand: After he learns that Shia is planning to start a War for Fun and Profit, he finally decides that he wants to do good again and that Shia has to be stopped. This ultimately leads to everyone banding together to stop her.
