“Life is meant to be awesome”

  • All-Loving Hero: Josh has not once been shown to really hate anyone. Save for when he was younger, but the man he disliked came to be a close friend of his later on.
  • Berserk Button: He is shown to have one when he discovers that Kevin has been sleeping around with a married woman. A married woman he had a crush on, but was too proper to peruse anything with her.
  • Camp Straight: Downplayed, but it is noted that he tends to lean towards melodrama and gets very expressive with his hands when upset. And obviously, he's straight.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: This ends up happening once when he went to a pizza place to baby sit a kid named Ryo. While Ryo was asking if he could go watch the TV, two beautiful woman walk by distracting Josh. Josh gives a thoughtless yes, and when he looks back to Ryo he finds that he disappeared. What follows is him freaking out about where the little kid could have gone.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: It seems that Josh just attracts guys in droves, leaving Josh feeling uncomfortable and freaked out.
  • Friend to All Children: He begins to contemplate this possibility after he baby sits little Ryo who becomes completely enamored with lovable lug.
  • Gentle Giant: Him being a giraffe, and a big sweet heart, have basically led him to being this.
  • Manchild: He gets all flustered whenever people flirt with him. Whenever he sees some anime or game that he likes he gets all excited like a child, and rushes in to get it.
  • Mistaken for Gay: A common mistake people make on the poor guy, much to his distress.
  • Nice Guy: Josh is most certainly this, and not in the bad way. He is a sweet and thoughtful individual willing to think the best of others. He has has his problem in the past, but in general he is a very amiable young man.
  • Oblivious to Love: Despite his desires to find a woman he can be with, he seems to have an innate inability of seeing someone who truly would like to be with him in an actual mature relationship.

Patrick ″Kevin″ Louis

“Pleasure to meet me.”

  • The Atoner: After being found out for not only cheating on Burt, but helping a married couple cheat on each other, Kevin has come to really rethink the way he has been living his life and strives to make amends to those he has hurt.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: And he wouldn't have it any other way. It has been shown that when he started working at the gym without his shirt, that he attracted a large amount of male patrons.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Kevin has a tendency of growing jealous at others when they start to attract attention away from him. This becomes especially hard on Kevin when his boyfriend's ex returns and shows himself to by bigger and more muscular than him. As the story progresses, Kevin has his jealousy of Trent flare up again and again. Though he does get better with some character development.
  • Handsome Lech: Especially near the beginning of the story he is this. He flirts with many women, and even men if they are willing. Thanks to character development, however, he is attempting to have a steady serious relationship with Burt.
  • Jerkass: In the beginning he had a tendency of being rather vitriolic towards other, especially towards Rodney who he was disgusted with due to his weight.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: After his character development, and slight deflation of his ego, Kevin starts to try and act kinder to those around him. He still retains some of his jerkass tendencies though.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Kevin started off with having a large ego, which most of the other characters found annoying. As the plot progresses though, his ego deflates and he acts a bit more humble.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Most definitely. After his character development, he goes out of his way to try and make genuine amends with Rodney, whom he had constantly ridiculed up to this point.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: This occurs with many of the characters at one point or another, but Kevin seems to live for the chance to rip off his shirt and show off.

Burt Mac Phearson

“Sorry, couldn’t resist.”

  • Beware the Nice Ones: He is usually calm to a zen like degree, but when one pushes his buttons just right ( or wrong as the case may be) one has to come face to face with two-hundred ninety pound power-lifter. He'd never physically hurt someone, but he will make use of his power to intimidate others.
  • Big Beautiful Man: It has been shown that many characters find themselves attracted to this highly muscular and tubby panda bear. Inside the short story, Unexpected Relationship, there was even a scene where Kevin's eyes lingered over Burt's large gut.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He has been shown to feel very protective over the woman Nicole, who he actually has stated to be like family. When he discovers the woes in her life he instantly sets to work to aid her in fixing it.
  • Fever Dream Episode: Due to some food poisoning, Burt finds himself dreaming of a favorite childhood character, and a beloved ex-boyfriend.
  • The Food Poisoning Incident: Accidentally induces this upon himself, leading to a strange dream sequence.
  • Gentle Giant: He is a very carrying and thoughtful man. His tendency of being calm and patient with others is a huge defining attribute to his character.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Most definitely. He is a kind man, but he is not going to let you walk all over him. When you did something wrong, he'll make you pay amends.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Their relationship certainly has its ups and downs, but despite any heated words between each other, Kevin and Burt will always end up back in each other's arms.

Rodney Davis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rodney333_455.png
“I did know this guy who was heavily into…but that might be too much information.”

  • Acrofatic Despite his weight, and his lack of exercise, Rodney can go awfully fast when he wants to. Comes with being a cheetah.
  • Big Beautiful Man: Rodeny and Ken certainly seem to think so. Kevin, not so much.
  • Coming-Out Story: Rodney wasn't the one that told it, Josh was, but in his tale he had been thrown out of his house and left to fend for himself after telling his parents.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Rodney is able to deal with most fetishes that he came across when dating online. Except for when his boyfriend started to wear diapers and asking him to spank him. When he started asking Rodney to breast feed him, Rodney swiftly dumped him.
  • Fat and Proud: He is quite happy with his pear shaped bod.
  • Geek Physiques: And he is quite proud of this, as mentioned above.
  • Geeky Turn-On: Rodney attempts to see if his geeky nature would go adversely against Ken, which it doesn't. In fact Ken is quite attracted to Rodney because of his intelligence and nerdy know how.
  • Nerds Are Virgins: Averted with Rodney, especially with his relationship with Ken.
  • Proud to Be a Geek: Rodney is completely comfortable in his own skin, both his physical and mental self. He wouldn't trade his geeky ways for anything.

Ken Pierce

“Just one more rep!”

  • Coming-Out Story: His coming out, unlike Rodney's, was far less depressing. From what he told, his father accepted it right away, even telling him that who ever he dates better treat him right.
  • Chubby Chaser: He isn't a real big one, but he does seem to like the look of his chubby cheetah.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His life had been for the most part a good one, except for the death of his old boyfriend. The details aren't too clear on what happened, but it is made clear that Ken is very troubled by this.
    • There was also the bit where he remembered his mother cursing at his uncle. He wasn't aware what was happening at the time, since he was five, but his father and mother were going through a hard time, and his uncle was trying to get involved. Luckily things turned out for the best.
  • Geeky Turn-On: He ends up being attracted to Ken because of his geeky intelligent nature.
  • Nice Guy: He is a very kind man, like Josh, though not as naïve when it comes to interpersonal matters. When Rodney begins to express fears of Ken leaving him for someone ″better″, Ken quickly shoots down the idea by bring up that he's not the kind of person that just dumps someone for such a shallow reason.
  • Shared Family Quirks: He, like his mother, had come to be a big lover of training his muscles. They both ended up becoming so muscular that some people even think they use steroids.

Trent Gaudaen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/trent333_1575.png
“Not if I have anything to say about it.”

  • Aloof Big Brother: Not as bad as some examples, but he doesn't interact much with his little brother at all.
  • Big Brother Instinct: That is not to say that Trent has no sense of brotherly interest. When he was younger, he strived to make himself look make himself look as cool to his brother as possible, like he could do anything he wanted. It isn't just Josh either. He genuinely sees Rodney as a second little brother, and if anyone were to hurt or insult Rodney they would pay dearly.
    • There was also the incident when Kevin was being bullied as a child, where Trent stepped in and quickly saved the little tiger.
  • Berserk Button: Don't insult Rodney in front of him. Just don't
  • Friend to All Children: Throughout his life, Trent has always gone out of his way to help anyone younger than him in trouble. When Rodney was kicked out of his families house, Trent stepped up and took him. When Josh was younger, Trent loved to go out and babysit him and a couple of zebra kids he knew. When Kevin, as a child, was being bullied Trent stepped right in to help. He seems to have a soft spot for little kids.
  • Handsome Lech: Perhaps even more so than Kevin. He is often flirting with anyone he finds attractive, even happy with the idea of having a threesome. The focus of his desires however is none other than his Panda Bear, Burt.
  • Forceful Kiss: Does this to Burt, much to his dislike.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He grew out his hair, and thus added further to his beauty in the eyes of those around him.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He, like Kevin, has a huge sense of self. Thinking that everything should bend over to his will. Trent, however, has moments of realizing this fault in himself, and truly recognizes it as such.
  • The Topic of Cancer: It is heavily implied that this was the cause of death for Trent's and Josh's mother.
    • This is brought near the last page made for Carpe Diem. The reason for Trent's return and attempts at getting back together with Burt is because his days are numbered, and he wants to spend them with the one he loves.
