The Captives and Related Characters

    The Captive
A mysterious girl who wakes up in a basement with no memory of who she is, and will bleed out dying if she does not escape in 30 minutes.
  • Amnesiac Hero: She wakes up with no memory of who she is, and only knows that she must escape the basement.
  • Amnesiacs are Innocent: While amnesiac, the protagonist has typical scared reactions to all the horror and gore around her, which completely disappears in the Remember ending when she retains her memory and goes back to killing a girl who escaped her.
  • Easy Amnesia: The protagonist lost all memory of who she was just by being thrown against the wall.
  • No Name Given: Even when she gets her memories back, her name is never revealed.
  • Super Drowning Skills: One of the few ways for the protagonist to die is for her to try to reach for a key in B5 with her bare hands, resulting in her slipping, falling into the water below, and drowning.

    The Dead Captive
A dead person that appears in the cell next to the protagonist's. He was long killed by the captor.

    Cousin Mike
A character alluded to in a note in the B2 lab.

Spoiler Characters

    The Captor
The one responsible for trapping the protagonist in the basement. Is actually the protagonist herself who lost her memories and lingers as a voice inside her head.
  • Anti-Villain: She may be a Mad Scientist, but she does love her father and cousin, and it is heavily implied that her experiments are to save the former from his illness.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The Remember ending has her successfully chase down and kill the Final Girl. Averted in the Free ending, where she is shot by a policeman.
  • Big Bad: She is the one who kidnapped and killed the other people inside the basement.
  • Daddy's Girl: She really loves her father, to the point of kidnapping and experimenting on innocents to save him from an unknown sickness.
  • Dies Wide Open: In the Free ending, she is shot by a policeman and dies with her eyes still open. Or so it seems, until she blinks...
  • Enemy Within: Her memories appear to manifest as a voice inside her head, occasionally telling her things like "DON'T LEAVE" and "FINISH THE JOB".
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She may be the captor responsible for kidnapping, experimenting on, and killing several people, but she did it to find a cure for her ill father. She also seems fond of her cousin Mike, given that when she recognizes his name from the file, she calls him "Mikey".
  • Evil Redhead: The protagonist is a redhead and turns out to be the one who kidnapped and killed all the people in the basement. Downplayed as she did it to cure her dad's illness.
  • Girl with Psycho Weapon: In the Remember ending, she wields a knife while killing the blonde girl, and she also has two bloody chainsaws lying around, indicating she used them at some point.
  • The Killer in Me: The protagonist wakes up in a room with no memory of who she is, and tries to escape the building she is trapped in. She finds corpses all throughout the building and experiments done with them. The endings reveal that she was the killer, who was experimenting on the men to try to cure her father's unknown illness.
  • Love Makes You Evil: It is heavily indicated that her main motive for kidnapping the people she did was to experiment on them and find a cure for her father's illness.
  • Mad Scientist: She kidnapped several people and experimented on them in a lab on B2 in order to find a cure for her ill father.
  • Not Quite Dead: In the Free end, after she is shot down by police and Dies Wide Open, The Stinger shows her eyes blink for a split second.
  • Villain Protagonist: The protagonist, pre-amnesia, was a Mad Scientist who kidnapped and killed people to cure her ill father. In the ending where her memories return, she hunts down the one girl who escaped her and finishes the job.
  • Walking Spoiler: Given that the captor is actually the amnesiac protagonist herself.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: The protagonist wanted to cure her father's mysterious illness that no one else could. So she became a Mad Scientist who would kidnap people and experiment on them for a cure.

    The Doctor
A figure inside the basement who can be seen lying on a hospital bed. Is actually the protagonist's father.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Initially he seems to just be a body on a hospital bed with no real importance, just another one of the captor's victims. Turns out he is a doctor, the protagonist's father, and the reason she became the captor in the first place (to cure his illness through Playing with Syringes).
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He is only ever called Doctor.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Initially, he is just a body on a hospital bed, and the notes refer to him as the doctor. Despite never speaking or interacting with her at all, however, the amnesiac protagonist realizes in the Remember ending that the doctor is her father.
  • No Name Given: Like the others, we don't know his real name. We only know him as Doctor.
  • Walking Spoiler: His identity as the protagonist's father and how he ties into her motive for her villainy is a major reveal.

    The Blonde Girl
A blonde girl seen in the endings. She was going to be the captor's latest victim, but defied her and caused her memory loss.
  • Final Girl: She escaped the protagonist who tried to kill her and is the only survivor among the protagonist's victims.
  • Hero Antagonist: She is the antagonist of the game, as she is the one who trapped the protagonist inside the basement and made her lose her memory by hitting her against a wall (which also introduces the threat of her bleeding to death), but given that the protagonist was the one who threw her in the basement in the first place and was trying to kill her, she can hardly be faulted for that.
  • No Name Given: Her name is never revealed.
  • Walking Spoiler: Her entire role is to reveal that the protagonist is not the innocent victim we were led to believe she is.
